Possible? Recreate my original Homepage pages into iWeb but retain old URL?

I have Tiger in the box and still have to install it.
I just bought iLife '06 today and will install it after installing Tiger.
I already have a .Mac homepage up — created with Homepage Manager.
I am thinking now that I would like to recreate that original homepage but do it with iWeb.
How do I end up with my original homepage pages all re-done into iWeb templates but retain my original .Mac homepage URL? All my friends know that URL. Could someone please explain?

Well really it's not OR but AND. If you want to do away with your old >homepage-style pages and send people to your iWeb pages via the old URL, >then you must put the redirect on the old pages.
Or you could leave the old pages up but add a link that says "Here's my new homepage..." or something like that...
Hi... I see you live in Florida — and hope you are not in any of the traditional hurricane paths!
I think that I want to start copying/recreating my Homepage pages into iWeb pages and accept that I will have a new URL someday in the near future (because I intend to do the copying as fast as I can and not stop). I can send a notice out and change a few other things. However, I have questions for that interim time when I am working on the iWeb pages but not finished with them.
While I am working on iWeb pages, I am given a new URL, right? And thus, I would at that point have two URLs with .Mac. Is that possible? As I see it, the first URL would be the one I have now, which is the address of my present .Mac Homepage Manager Homepage. And the second URL, wouldn't it be the URL of the iWeb pages? That's possible???
I understand the concept of having a redirect page from my original Homepage ultimatly to the new iWeb page, but is it an automatic redirect or one which the viewer can activate if he wants to? I would not want a redirect page to quickly, blindly switch a visitor from the old Homepage to the new iWeb pages which are incomplete.
I don't understand the mechanics of URLs. I don't know what a Redirect Page looks like or how it works and I don't see how I could be working on my new iWeb pages with its new iWeb URL, all the while leaving my present Homepage alone, viewable by visitors with ITS OWN URL.
[several minutes passed]
And now that I have sat here and thought for several minutes, it seems that the easiest thing to do would be to have no redirect page for a while. All that I ask in that case is: Is it possible to do that? Is it possible to have my old/present Homepage viewable while I am working on my iWeb pages?
I think I just solved one of my questions all by myself. If I begin to work on iWeb I will be given a new URL — an iWeb URL. Thus technically, when I Edit and Publish in iWeb, technically, people could view those pages, but chances are they will not if I don't announce the new iWeb URL to them. OK. I see......
I am asking all of this now because I am the type that needs to envision and understand a project from start to finish before I start. I do not like surprises — and cyber surprises have the ability to unsettle me.
Could someone please realign my erratic thoughts? Are my goals possible? Can I have my present .Mac Homepage Manager Homepage viewable and visitable while working away on copying them to my new iWeb site? (I bought iLife '06 yesterday and will install it and Tiger today. Tiger first and iWeb'06 second, as instructed.)

Will you be working on the site with both computers over time? If so Old Toad's Tutorial #21 - Managing an iWeb site from multiple Macs with Dropbox. can show you a way to make it easy to keep the domain file current on both Macs.

  • Bringing already existing html pages into iWeb, possible???

My sister is a graphic designer who created some html pages for me using Dreamweaver & GoLive. I want to update the text, images, and tables in these pages, and thought I could use iWeb, but it only wants to let me use it's templates.
Am I doing something wrong? Seems like there should be an easy way to do this. (If this is impossible in iWeb, can anyone recommend another software option?)

  • Indie Musician Needs Help Integrating ASP Contact Page Into iWeb

Hello Fellow Mac Users. (I just switched from PC to the iMac last month and I am SO happy with it!) The iWeb program is great! I had originally planned to hire someone to create my new music site, but I think what I've figured out how to do in iWeb will work for the time being.
One problem... I want to use a legit contact page (my friend helped design this one for me) which is actually an ASP page. (www.aldenmusic.com/contact.asp) Does anyone know how I can replace my current contact page with the .asp one? I am hosting on another server (Crystaltech) rather than on .mac, if that matters.
I was thinking maybe there is a way to go in and replace the HTML code manually on each page or maybe there is some way to trick iWeb into accepting the .ASP page? I have no idea how this stuff works.
    Here is my current site:

Any help would be much appreciated!

I don't think there is any way you can integrate an .asp page into an iWeb site other than by creating a hyperlink to it.

  • Is it possible to place an InDesign page into the same InDesign document

I'm able to place an InDesign page into another InDesign document, but am not able to place an InDesign page an InDesign document when the page is part of the same InDesign document. Is there any way around this limitation?

PDF is the better bet (although you might as well save a copy of your document). Snippets have all kinds of problems for this because of master items and the fact that from a script you can only export individual items as snippets (although you can group them and export that).

  • I Have several pages in iWeb, but only want to host one of them on mobileme

I've got four seperate web pages I've designed in iweb, but I only want one of them to be hosted by mobile me. How do I do this? It seems that it wants to post all of the pages to my account.

Build your sites on separate domain files so that you can load them into iWeb, work on them and publish them separately....

  • HT1338 I've updated my web page in iWeb, but I can't get it to publish

I have updated my website in iWeb, but when I go to publsih the changes it seems to take very long and although when I try to quit it asks if I really want to because it's publsihing it doesn't appear to be doing anything.  The last time I updated, it didn't take long to publish, just long for my changes to actually appear on my website.  I am publishing to my own URL, not through mobile me.  Any advice?

You need to post the steps you took, exactly what is happening, what OS version are you running (32 or 63 bit).  No one can begin to help you unless we have more information to try and figure out what is happening.
It sounds like you got iTunes to upgrade and are trying to download the ios5 upgrade for your iPad.  Correct?  First things to try:
    1) reboot your pc
2). Turn off firewall and anti-virus
3). Try again and post the results with any error messages you may get.

  • Putting jalbum page into iweb.. Help please.

I would like to find an easy step-by-step description of how to get a jalbum page intergrating into a iweb as a separate page. Is this possible. I see posts say yes it is possible, but I see no clear instructions for doing this. I am basically "code illiterate" so I really need step by step instructions and explanations.

  • Is it possible to link text from Pages into an InDesign document [as you can with Google docs]?

In InDesign, you can get a plug-in [word flow] which allows you to link the text in a Google Docs document into an InDesign document, so that you can edit the text in Google Docs [on your computer/tablet etc] and it will update in the InDesign document. Additionally, if you edit the text in teh InDesign docuemnt, the Google Docs file is also updated.
Is there a plug-in for Pages? Or a way to do this [without ditching Pages and starting to use Google Docs]?
    Thanks

There are no plugins for Pages for iOS. Period.

  • Preserving finished pages in iWeb but taking them entirely offline?

I have some published webpages that I'd like to take offline for a while, but not have to redesign from scratch if I decide I want to put them back online again.
Anyone know how to do this?
    Thanks

    James:
You didn't delete those sites from your iWeb file (Domain.sites) did you? That's where all the source material and information is kept for editing and republishing. If you want to remove the current version you could delete the folder with the site name from your iDisk/Web/Sites/iWeb folder. Then when you want to bring it on line just republish from iWeb.
If the site(s) is part of a bigger site you can, in iWeb, remove it from the navigation bar and republish all. The folder with files would still be on your iDisk for use later but not accessible thru the overall site. When you want it back just add that site back to the nav bar and publish again.

  • .Mac pages to iWeb

I came across a description somewhere of converting .Mac pages to iWeb pages. It goes on to say that any photos would benefit from the superior slideshow features of iWeb. However I cannot remember where I have seen it.
The only reference I can see to .Mac now is that you cannot edit .Mac pages with iWeb.
Has anybody seen the above reference or got any suggestions on converting .Mac pages to iWeb pages?
    I would appreciate any suggestions.
    Jim

Well, I don't think there is a way to convert .Mac Homepage pages into iWeb sites. The bad news is that there currently isn't even support in iWeb to import already published iWeb pages back into editable form by iWeb. So the long and short of it all is that you would have to republish your photo galleries using iWeb in order to take advantage of the "fancier" slideshow feature.
A lot of people who have been using Homepage up till now choose to make links so that visitors can move between the "old" Homepage site and the new iWeb site instead of republishing everything. There's a pretty good tutorial written by our very own willG4pb that walks you through establishing this link between .Mac and iWeb...

    Bea,
There is no way to get use the homepage templates in iWeb as a template, but you can link to your old pages (See the hyperlinks page on my site).

  • Deactivating the detail page in iWeb

Is is possible to deactivate the details page in iWeb when inserting photos on the photo page. I simply want my photos to show on the page, i don't want the ability to click on the pic and then show the detail page. Is this possible?

    Hi Cyclosaurus,
Thanks for the link.  I understand now that what i'm trying to do is something i need to change/delete in the coding.  I hope you will be pateint with me as this is the first website im doing on iweb (the first one ever actually) so i'm still learning and catching onto a few things.  I have a few questions that i hope you can help answer for me so that i can complete what i'm trying to do:
1 - how do i get into the coding end of the website?  Is that through another application or can i do it from iweb?
2 - from what i gather, i can simply delete the slideshow page (coding) completely and only have the photo page depicting my images, where you are not able to click on them for the slideshow section, is that correct?
3 - and if i undertstand point number 2 to be correct, what does the coding look like or what must i look for to delete it completely?
Your help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks a mil.

  • Is there anyway to bring a published folder back into iWeb 08?

I published my old site to a folder for safe keeping.
I would like to bring it back to iWeb 08's design interface/application so I can work on it some more. Is there any way to do that?
    Thanks.

Thank you for the prompt reply - I shall now go into a darkened studio and scream for a short while. I think that iWebsites overwrote the Domain file with a page I was trying to get rid of that is stuck on My Pages on my .Mac homepage, so everything else disappeared for ever. I have been trying to copy and paste from the folder I have into iWeb but it ain't going to work, I suspect. No alternative but to start from scratch, just using the folder as a design reference. Presumably website software such as Softpress' Freeway can import from an existing folder?
