Possible solution to close browser issues.....but am not sure how to acheive it
Hi there,
In an earlier post I was and still am having issues with the close browser window, but now I have thought of a solution that will do the job if I can get CP to mimic key strokes on a button press/click or using advanced actions, but I am not sure how to achieve this....
The idea is to have the ALT-F-X keyboard combo done when a button is clicked, which will then close the browser....
Does that sound achievable??

iCloud password works on everything but erasing all data. I got a new iPhone and need to wipe this one but am not sure how else to do this since the password is not working. Any suggestions?
Firefox also makes regular backups of your bookmarks in a folder named bookmarkbackups in your personal settings folder. You can restore the backup to your new Firefox, but unlike importing the HTML-format file, it is a complete drop-in replacement, so if you have saved new bookmarks you do not want to lose, the export/import method may work better for you.
By default, Windows hides your personal settings folder so the easiest way to access it is from inside Firefox. You can use either:
* "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
* (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
* type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter
In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button. This will launch a window showing your Firefox settings files.
You might want to back up this whole folder if you have other data you want to preserve from your XP computer.
Either way, you should find the bookmarkbackups folder here and when you click into it, find maybe 10 files with dates in their names.
The procedure to restore the file once you have it on removable media or some other convenient place is described in this article: [[Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer]].

Lightroom 4 crashes when trying to open the slideshow module. I spent over three hours with both Adobe and Apple tech support and we know it is a permission issue but have not been able to get it solved. It started with the last upgrade to 10.8
Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):

Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
Step 2 (optional)
The first step should give you usable permissions in your home folder. This step will restore special attributes set by OS X on some user folders to protect them from unintended deletion or renaming. You can skip this step if you don't consider that protection to be necessary.
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
resetpassword
That's one word, all lower case, with no spaces. Then press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
Select
▹ Restart
from the menu bar. -
Trying to install MS Office 2011 for Mac SP 2 (14.2.0) on my Macbook Air (Lion 10.7.3). I have to close Microsoft Database Daemon and SyncServicesAgent but can not see how to do so. I have closed all applications. Can anyone help? Many thanks
Thanks Kurt! I had tried all that and had tried closing both programmes from the application monitor, but SyncServices Agent refused to close. I tried closing Launchd which is their mother application, but that just caused the screen go go blank. In the end the two programmes let themselves be closed next time I tried the installation process so all was well. Thanks for your help!

I want to copy images to a memory stick for sharing with my family. This was possible in iPhoto via copy/paste but does NOT seem to be possible with photos...
You can drag and drop (this will result in a compressed JPG) or hold the alt key and drag and drop (this will copy the original). You can also select the pictures and choose Export from the File menu.

If you have some different page, try the quick fix in Fred McD's reply.
If the sites are missing, did you use the Reset feature? That will clear the storage associated with the new tab page. I'm not sure it's possible to recover from that; you probably need to rebuild your page from scratch as you browse.
For possible future reference, here is how to access the hidden setting for the page to display on new tabs:
(1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''newtab''' and pause while the list is filtered
(3) Double-click the '''browser.newtab.url''' preference and enter your preferred page:
* ''Page thumbnails (default)'' => about:newtab
* ''Blank tab'' => about:blank
* ''Built-in Firefox home page'' => about:home
* ''Any other page'' => full URL to the page
Press Ctrl+t to open a new tab and verify that it worked. Fixed?
Some gotchas:
''If Firefox won't let you edit this setting:'' you may have something called SearchProtect on your system.
''If Firefox lets you save your change but ignores it:'' one of your extensions may be overriding it. You can review, disable, and/or remove extensions on the add-ons page:
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > ''in the left column click'' Extensions
''If the change works during your session, but at the next startup is back to an unwanted page:'' you might have a user.js file in your personal Firefox settings folder (your Firefox profile folder). I am sorry to say that, but your security makes my life miserable – it’s been 2 months since my Apple ID account got stuck, and since then I cannot update 37 applications (to date), i.e. most of my applications. Half of them I bought. I also paid for iCloud, and it is not working. I paid money and I am stuck with old applications and no iCloud. Your security *****. Your service ***** too. It took your service 1 month to finally understand why this happened to me, and it took me tens of emails to you and 3 hours of telephone conversation to find out the reason for my problem. And the problem is still not fixed. NOT FIXED. You just leave your customer – the one who paid you money and spent so much time with you trying to help you help me – and nothing. Vitas DijokasWell, it seems waiting is not my strong suit..! I renamed a javascript file called recovery to sessionstore. This file was in the folder sessionstore-backups I had copied from mozilla 3 days ago, when my tabs were still in place. I replaced the sessionstore in mozilla's default folder with the renamed file and then started mozilla. And the tabs reappeared as they were 3 days ago!
So there goes the tab problem. But again when I started mozilla the window saying "a script has stopped responding" appeared, this time the script being: chrome//browser/contenttabbrowser.xml2542
If someone knows how to fix this and make firefox launch normally, please reply! Thank you -
I have the advanced calling on my galaxy note 4 but am not sure on how to use it or who I can call I watched video's that show me but it doesn't work please help!
This is also known as VoLTE or Voice over LTE. Like Vonage, but for cell phones. Advanced calling is turned on or off in your phones settings, usually near Call/Phone option. It allows an HD quality call between you and another Verizon customer who is using an AC-enabled phone. It also allows you to talk and surf simultaneously and conduct video calls. This AC requires Mobile Data to be on when out and about but can still be used on WiFi.The min do not count toward your data, however the video counts toward your data.
Some customers report poor call quality or dropped and missed calls when using this newer feature. Disabling AC usually helps quell those issues. -
IPhoto deleted my photos. I'm not sure how this happened, but how do I recover them?
iPhoto deleted photos I took that I do need. I'm not sure how this happened but they are now no longer anywhere on my Mac. How did I get them back?
With that amount of information to work with, the only possible suggestion is that you restore from your back up.

If you haven't done so already you need to migrate your mail account to iCloud first and do so IMMEDIATELY at the website Move
Then
Delete your mail account from Mail preferences and set it up again using the Mail Server Information.
Some users have apparently encountered issues using this information in pre-Lion set ups (I haven't), Roger Wilmut has kindly provided instructions for those who find themselves with this problem.

I would like to do a product visualization of a fabric on a shirt, but am not sure where to start
Hi Everyone,
I am on a conquest to do a product visualization of a fabric style on a shirt (fabric could be a solid color, striped, or checked). I have access to the fabric and can take pictures/scans of the fabric to extract the exact pattern and would like to overlay it onto an existing picture of a man with a proper dress shirt on to see how the fabric would look on the actual shirt.
I would like this to be as real as possible so that you could not tell that the fabric was actually "draped" onto the shirt. The result would be something similar to the Perry Ellis website:

Could anyone point me in the right direction as to whether this can be done with Photoshop or if there is another alternative method I should pursue? I already have an original with my model in a very flat grey shirt that I would like to modify.
I would even consider paying a photoshop expert to complete the job but am not sure if what I am asking for can be accomplished yet.

I don't mind it taking a long time, as long as the results are repeatable as I want to be able to do this with 20 fabrics or so and I want it to look as real as possible. I am a novice at Photoshop, would you recommend I pay someone to accomplish this? How long do you think it would take? Is it something I could learn because I plan on doing 20 of them and maybe more? -
I have an older iPhone (3gs) and need to upgrade to a newer phone (4S). I need to get my NOTES, CALENDAR, CONTACTS, PICTURES, etc backed up on iTunes so I can get that data loaded onto the new phone. But not sure how to do that. When I open iTunes it has a button that say "Back Up iPhone", but I'm not sure what that does. When I go into the sync options it say I have another user account and asks me if I want to merge of replace. I'm assuming it's trying to tell me I have an older iTunes Library, but don't know that. Geez, maybe people over 60 shouldn't have iPhones, iTunes just bafles me.
