Possible Solution to MBP / Airport Problems

I've been having the same problems that lots of you have: slow to connect after restart or sleep, dropped connections when other computers get on the same wireless network, constantly having to play with Network Diagnostics, re-entering password, etc. I may have fixed my problem - maybe it will help yours.
System Prefs / Network / Advanced / Airport
In this window was a list of every network my computer was remembering. I tried re-ordering them, but it made no difference. Finally, I deleted all but my home network.
Suddenly, it's a breeze to get into my wireless network. My guess is that at least one of the remembered network files were corrupted. Anyway, it's all good for now. Fingers crossed...H

Well, some of it is fixed. My wife's MacBookAir still knocks me off of the network. ...H

Buy my problem of camels Store Lee games possible solution for me my problem?

This worked for me, sort of. A while back when I downloaded that windows update that installed the new version of IE, I noticed that IE wouldn't connect to the internet and pages wouldn't load. However, I thought nothing of it because I use Firefox and FF was working just fine.
I went into IE earlier this evening (it still wasn't working) and tried to follow your recommended steps. I got up to step 4 and IE froze. I tried closing it, reopening it and repeating the steps but it would always freeze at step 4. In another thread, someone was saying that iTunes released a security update and that fixed the store for them so I tried opening Apple Software Update and that froze. I tried it several times, nothing. Would always freeze. I even tried updating thru iTunes and IT would freeze.
Finally, I went to the control panel and uninstalled IE7. The iTunes store and the Apple Software Update program are now working! So thank you very much for your suggestion. Otherwise, it may have never clicked with me that IE was the problem.

  • A possible workaround for C2D Airport problems?

A collegue advised the other day to download iStumbler, a free application that seems to sit and monitor all connections coming in your Airport, also for Bluetooth, Bonjour, etc.
Well, I did... and ever since this thing started to work seeing my Network wifi the airport bars has returned back to the maximum level and there has been no connection drops, re-connecting flawlessly after sleep.
Its funny also how iStumbler is able to see more Network wifis than the Airport menu: I see 2, sometimes 3 connections that I never saw on the Airport menu.
The signal is reported to be at 70% with a 13% noise. But working great!
Can someone with Airport problems try this solution and see if it works too? Maybe we are into something?
    Regards,
    -- Carlos

I had installed istumbler a couple of days ago it did seem to improve the signal for a period then the signal dropped back to the normal 4/5 bars.
After your post I started istumbler again and found there was an update the purports to solve signal problems with core 2 Duo macs.
I have updated and have full signal strength for last 5 minutes longer than ever before.
    Fingers crossed

  • Possible solution to airplay audio problem

Fist of all, sorry for my english.
I had the next problem, videos from itunes or youtube works fine, but when I tried to stream only audio, from ipod aplication or spotify it doesn´t work. Some times make a little noise, other times the conexion returns to the iphone or ipad...ant many times the wifi of the phone or the ipad hangs, and have to reboot...
I´ve tried many things, with two diferent routers (both of them wireless n), different configurations, open ports, went to the genius bar, even broke a router (it hangs and there wasn´t any way to restore, even with a hard reset)...
Finally, today it starts to work. What I did is:
    1. Change wifi channel to 9.
    2. Disable WSC setup in my router configuration.
    3. I think this is the most important: enable WMM (wifi multimedia) on the configuration of my router. It´s a comtrend model, maybe this is called in another way in other router configuration.
    4. And reset my apple tv (menu+down 5 secs).
Probably it´s not necesary to make all these steps, looks like point 3 is the different from previous attempts...
So check your WMM router configuration and try.
    Hope it helps.

Intresting notes... When you download album artwork from iTunes it really doesn't add it to the MP3 track, it stores it elsewhere and assoicates it internally some how to the album. Where as adding a artwork in through the actual file will change the size of your MP3 track, by embedding the artwork into it so that other apps (like windows media) can see them.
That would be an interesting find if that is indeed the case.... Furthermore if that solves the problem, than apple should have an easy fix on thier hands.
However, since most of my music is direct downloads from iTunes and has the artwork directly embedded into the music files like I mentioned above that might be why I've never encountered the issues.... As I found out about this quirk a while back, because some of the tracks on the PC or on my iPod would never show the album cover before...
Hopefully someone else with the same problem can help confirm this possible solution!

  • Possible solution to book uploading problem

I posted this as a reply to TM2 ... redundancy is sometimes very helpful ...
I ran into the same problem in last couple of weeks ... deadline for books and all.
I too gave up trying with Aperture and used BLUR's BookSmart, thinking that it may be a solution re overcoming problems with uploading (Aperture/Apple not providing useful solutions for me) .... but, ran into same problem - I was not able to upload finished book and got same msg re error and request to check my ISP connection, etc ... finally, I called Comcast re possibly a problem with their router or something like it ... I got very lucky and connected with someone who was very knowledgeable, pleasant, and accessible ... SOLUTION: bi-pass the Belkin 54g ... hook up CPU ethernet connection directly to cable router - BINGO! ... Belkin seems to be the potential cause for problem: It most likely needs firmware update - checked their web site and there is one available .... in time will upload it.
Hope this helps and it is same solution for Aperture trouble's re uploading issues, etc ... Merry Christmas.

  • Possible Solution to Ongoing Wifi problems

FINALLY! After four days of the same problem, we got it resolved by disconnecting my imac, two airport expresses and turning off iphone. Turned all off for 15 minutes. Started turning things back on in this order. Modem, airport express #1, imac, reset a new wireless network (it worked), #2 airport express attached to stereo for wireless music streaming (it worked), did a hard reset on phone and logged into the new home network. I could be wrong, but deleting old wifi connections and old home wireless network and starting anew from factory settings did the trick!

  • Possible Solution for iMac Airport/Internet Woes

Airport signal constantly dropping out and web pages taking an age to load?
INSTANT SOLUTION (Well it worked instantly for both me and one of my friends with the exact same issues anyway!)
Simply add the following to your DNS Servers
    4.2.2.1
    4.2.2.2
No more constantly dropped airport signal and no more waiting for pages to load. Internet now working as fast or even faster than ever!
I'll admit that I had little confidence in this working myself (Found an old article on the web ages ago that suggested this for a similar problem but cannot for the life of me find the article now!) but was completely blown away when it actually worked a treat!
For anyone who does not know how to add DNS servers:-
Open System Preferences/Network/Airport (In left hand pane)/Advanced (Button at bottom)/DNS (Tab along top)/Click plus sign and type in (Do this for both 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2)/Click OK/Click Apply
Hopefully you should now have a solid connection!

**** that's a shame, I really thought this would work for some people. My friend's connection has been rock solid for months since he did this (After having the same issues) and mine hasn't dropped signal strength for 2 days since doing it (I've only recently had the issues).
Don't know if it's just coincidence or not but mine seemed to start dropping signal strength and slowing down after downloading RealPlayer. RealPlayer downloader started running the next time I openened Safari and my connection went totally erratic from then on. Deleting it did not rectify it, using the Open DNS servers (208.67.222.222 and 208.67.222.220) didn't work but since entering the 4.2.2.1 & 4.2.2.2 I have had no issues.

  • 2011 MBP Airport Problems

Okay, so i've had problems with airport on my 2011 MBP since they gave me this one as a replacement for another laptop that was faulty (different reason).
This one, works on wifi, then it drops, then it comes back again. I've spoken to applecare who have said there 'appears to be a problem' and requested me to format the harddrive to see if i could replicate the problem on a clean harddrive with no software updates.
The problem is still occuring, if i ping my router when the airport seems to stop (full wifi signal) i obtain a 100% packet loss (everything else that is on Wifi is working when this occurs on the MBP). Now I'm getting a combination of this and airport disabling itself, if I click on the wifi network, it asks me to put in my password but does not allow me to select ok. The only way around this is then to proceed to turn airport off and turn it back on.
Does this sound like a hardware fault? and has anyone else experienced anything similar?

Well, some of it is fixed. My wife's MacBookAir still knocks me off of the network. ...H

  • Possible solution to iTunes 6 problems

After experiencing problems with iTunes 6 upgrade...namely difficulties with soundtracks that I had previously purchased for background music in existing slide shows created in iPhoto and iMovie, a tech support guy spent about 30 minutes with me to sort it out. Finally it was determined that I needed to upgrade Quicktime. That was the solution that worked in my case. I work on a PowerMac G5 with all the latest "i" stuff. Hope this helps someone.

Made sense to me, so I did it. Unfortunately, the problem still goes on. Fortunately, I could use QuickTime 7.0 Pro anyway.

  • Possible solution to buzzing iMac problem!

Folks, disclaimer first: 1) I don't know the difference between whining and buzzing when it comes to a computer; 2) I am not Apple or producer of its hardware and I cannot guarantee it will work in your particular case and 3) I think it does not apply to rev A. Having said that, I think the issue is the same in rev A and B - it's the solution that's different. I do know how irritating a constant buzzing can be (read my other posts), so hopefully it will solve your problem.
OK, I had a rev A whose midplane collapsed, I went through 2 midplane replacements and one PSU replacement which did not help solve the noise issue. Now I have a rev B 17" iMac that I do love a lot for all the features and the way it looks and works. If it wasn't for the buzzing noise, striaght from the box.
After reading one of the posts here when someone took a stethoscope and listened to the noises the computer makes in different parts (plus "scienceman" experiment discussed in many other threads, http://scienceman.com/pgs/00_imacG5.html ), I did the same and I was pretty sure it was the CPU fan making this noise in my case, the lower fan to be exact. To be absolutely sure, I disconnected this CPU fan from power (of course, the back of the computer should be off) and powered the computer on (small button on the midplane assembly, almost in the middle of the computer.
    The buzzing was gone!
A word of caution: do not keep the computer running with the CPU fan disconnected; once you made sure the noise is gone with CPU fan disconnected, switch the power off and connect the fan back as it was.
Now call the Apple support, be patient, explain the issue, what you did and get them send you a new CPU fan. I got mine in 3 days. It's quite easy to replace -- 10-15 mins. Alternatively go to your Apple store and ask them to replace the fan. I am sure your rev B is covered by 1yr warranty, so it should be free. In rev A - the fan is not a customer-serviceable part, but rather a part of the midplane assembly, I think.
So I just replaced my CPU fan and the buzzing is ALMOST gone. I think now it's what one can call whisper-quiet, more or less. Also, when comparing the two fans side by side, I noticed some differences in the fan cases between the two. I assume the inside of the fan might have undergone some changes as well. My view, Apple is trying to solve the noise issue and may be almost there. For this particular irritating constant high-pitched noise.
So one important thing to note - if you had the same kind of noise (model airplane-like, or fluorescent street lamp-like), it most probably is the CPU fan. Check it as I described here, before agreeing to replace the power supply or the midplane, and going through backups and having your computer in service for weeks. It may sound strange, but the people in Apple product/technical support I spoke to, they didn't have the foggiest idea how to fix it. What they suggested is midplane and power supply replacement, resetting SMU, NVRAM, adjusting brightness, etc. - doesn't work.
Will update you on any developments. Hope this could be helpful to many of you.
    Cheers!

    Alexei,
I noticed that your imac is now getting "noisier" with each post you make.

So I just replaced my CPU fan and the buzzing is ALMOST gone. I think now it's what one can call whisper-quiet, more or less.
    1.1 post:
One more comment. As I said, with a new fan, the noise is less noticeable but still there.

I had a chance to listen to my iMac more carefully yesterday, and if there is any improvement, it's marginal.

  • A possible solution to the MIDI problem with Audition 5.5

    Hi, all.
In searching for other answers to my Audition 5.5 questions, I've been seeing lots of complaints on these forums about the lack of MIDI compatibility with this version.  If you have an external MIDI sequencer, I offer a solution that you might find useful.
Go into Audition's Edit > Preferences and change the time display from minutes and seconds to bars and beats
Specify the time signature to the closest beat value of your song (exampe:  if you're using both 3/4 and 4/4 time signatures, go with 4/4)
Set the tempo to match your song
Lay down a full length click track with at least a 4 measure click intro
Insert the same length click intro into every track (which, when working with previously sequenced tracks, is just a matter starting the machine in sequence-record mode with the metronome on, counting the appriopriate beats and turning it back off just before the song starts)
Mute all but the track you intend to record
Record each instrument track to its own file, save and open a multi-track session
Position the first beat of the click track far enough into the session to preclude needing to trim intros (you can trim the silence out with the click intro after mixdown)
Zoom in until a single click fits perfectly under the time indicator line
Drag or snap all the other tracks underneath it so that the first click of each track lines up
I use lots of instruments with slow attack (such as strings), or tracks where the instrument might only be in a few measures, so the 4+ measures of click intro are particularly useful.
Pretty low-tech, but quick and painless nonetheless.  It suits my purposes, though I'd love to know if someone has a better method.  Thanks for reading.

    Bob Howes wrote:
The other problem is that, even among the "music creation" market, there can be big differences in the perceived importance of MIDI.
I'm not a musician myself but have worked closely with two very different composers.  One of them does practically everything in MIDI (using Sonar) then tends to hand me the files to work with in Audition (after conversion to wave format).  Some tracks are left in the form they came but others are replaced with live "real" instruments.
The other person is much more traditional.  He plays more instruments than I can count and I help him by recording as he lays down drums, guitars, bass, brass, etc. etc.  He owns a lot of keyboards but, even with these, he sends me line out and uses the actual keyboard sounds rather than laying down MIDI data.
So, if you asked these two how important it would be to have MIDI functionality, you'd get two very different answers.  From some of the recording forums I frequent, I get the impression that my friends are a microcosm of the whole market .  Some use MIDI a lot while others prefer the feel and sound of recording live instruments.  (And, I'm sure, others inhabit a middle ground.)
True dat.  Up until about a year or so ago, I didn't use MIDI, and so Audition was for me music production software par excellence.  Then about a year ago, I started getting into MIDI, and now I'm not only using MIDI for creating keyboard-based tracks for overdubs, I'm actually writing songs using MIDI (whereas before songwriting almost always involved a guitar).  MIDI has become huge for me, in other words.  And whether I go to sites like Studio Central and read Tweakhead's guide to homerecording in which he tells people that modern music-making either involves MIDI or is MIDI-based, or whether I read articles in Sound on Sound magazine which constantly reference MIDI in their articles, have regular features about sample librairies that use MIDI, or look at the countless ads touting MIDI keyboards and controllers, it's clear that MIDI is as much a part of modern recording as guitars and mics.  Before, I never used to get what Steve was on about when he'd say that Audition isn't music production software, because I had produced five albums of stuff using either CEP or Audition.  Now, I understand what he means when he says that.  When he says Audition isn't a music production software, he means 'Audition doesn't have MIDI'.  However, the truth of the matter is that Audition is a wonderful music production software if you don't use MIDI, and a partial music production software if you do.   You know, I've tried out other softwares - Reaper, Studio One, FL Studio (ha!) - and none of them come close to Audition for me.  Sure, I can get by using Reaper for MIDI, but knowing how Audition does things, I know that I'd be happier doing it inside Audition.  Hence, the continued lobbying.  I want the best.

  • Possible solution for people having problems updating InDesign CC to 9.2.2 on Windows 7/8

So after InDesign CC x64 (x32 version seemed fine?) giving me constant update failed errors and about four different error codes each different way I tried to fix it, I decided to find out why, like many I have been getting this in my Install log.
FATAL: Payload 'Adobe InDesign CC x64 Application Language Files_9.2.1.101_AdobeInDesign9AppLang64-en_US 8.0.0.15 {35937D37-6FF2-1014-BDC2-9CD1656E73E4}' information not found in Media_db.
Reinstalling via Control Panel or the CC Cleaner tool did nothing to remedy the situation and the same error kept occurring, even though CC is meant to download the language files (apparently)
However, what I thought was odd was the fact that it references 9.2.1 not 9.2.2. It seems Adobe CC installs InDesign CC 9.2.1 from a fresh install but then fails on the 9.2.2 patch, but it seems 9.2.1 itself is either corrupted or something doesn't go right with the language packs as the error above shows.
SOLUTION: Manually install both the 9.2.1 and 9.2.2 patches.
    Get them from here: http://prodesigntools.com/adobe-cc-updates-direct-links-windows.html
Both will be named setup.zip, so rename them to something like setup_9.2.1 and setup_9.2.2 and extract both zip archives.
Install the 9.2.1 patch followed by the 9.2.2 patch, reboot and Creative Cloud should stop whining. It worked for me on Windows 8.1, open up InDesign > Help > About InDesign and check the version, it should be 9.2.2.
    PROFIT.
Hope this works for others. Hopefully Adobe fix this in a CC app update, as this had me going in circles for a while.

    Hello,
    This solution worked for me.
I was encountering the Error Code — U44M1P34.
This error occurred when Creative Cloud Manager notified me of the InDesign CC 9.2.2 update.
I tried almost everything, removing / uninstalling the program, removing / uninstalling all the programs, deleting all the left behind folders of the programs, re-downloading them from Creative Cloud Manager and even trying manually to install the 9.2.2 update.
    Thank you.

  • MBP Airport problems fixed by 10.4.7

Just wanted to say I was having terrible wifi dropout problems with my month-old 15" MacBook Pro -- it would work fine for a few minutes, then go dead for 20-30 seconds, though it still claimed to be connected -- and installing the 10.4.7 update seems to have totally fixed the problem. I was getting inconsistent signal strength (wavering from 2 to 4 bars) and that's solid now too.
P.S. Hello forum maintainer--you need to add a 10.4.7 entry to the OS list.
    MacBook Pro 2.16/1GB   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Having the same problem with the SLVR, Cingular. Everything else works fine, syncing, file transfer, everything, just can't get the "SMS" or "Dial with Cell Phone" commands in the Address Book to work.
When I hit the Bluetooth button in the Address Book, it asks me to pair the devices, enter a code (I've used both 0000 and the 8 digit code given by the Bluetooth Set Up Assistant), but the SMS and Dial commands will not "un-grey."
I've also noticed that when I use the "Find Devices" command from the phone, it won't find anything, despite the fact that my computer is already paired and set to automatically accept connection. As I said, file transfer, syncing, etc. all work fine.
Everything worked fine with my SE T68i.
    Anyone?

  • Possible solution for optical drive problems

I recently purchased a memorex cd/dvd lens cleaner at best buy and cleaned my drive with it. It now reads everything it wouldn't before. I haven't tested it but I imagine burn reliability is better too. For those that aren't having real troubles with their drive, you might try a dvd cleaner. My drive is a GWA4080MA. Disks that are now readable include TDK DVD-RW and +RW, Sony DVD+R DL, Sony DVD-R and Office Depot DVD+R DL.

A lens cleaner brought my drive back from the dead (according to Apple) so I second that suggestion.
