Possible to always display page number in footer on outside of facing page?

Is it possible to configure the page number in a footer to always display on the outside of the facing page?

In the Layout Inspector, in the Section tab, check "Left and right pages are different", then put the page numbers in the appropriate places on the left and right pages.

I am writing a book and need to have the margins alternating left and right pages, so that there is sufficient margin for the binding. I have tried different inside and outside margins, the same inside and outside margins, facing pages, changing the master, and I cannot get the margins to alternate at print time. The larger margin is always on the left. Can anyone please help me on this, as I have spent hours and lots of ink.

Set up as facing pages with a larger inside margin.

Does Adobe Reader have a search window phrase rollover, yellow-highlighted pop up page number bug displaying the wrong page in some circumstances?
If Yes, how do I report that bug to get Adobe to fix it?
    Viewing the same PDF:
MacPreview does not have the problem described below,
Adobe Reader does have the problem.
Adobe Reader, search phrase rollover, pops up a page number that is yellow-highlighted, e.g., p# 29, and is wrong, whereas the page number for the thumb and PDF are both the same and are correct.
My PDF has been set on Acrobat Pro to properly paginate the first eight pages in lowercase Roman numerals (i, ii, iii, iv, v, vi, vii, viii) followed by Arabic numerals (1, 2, etc.). My PDF uses an AcrobatPro special setting to properly handle this pagination scheme. The search phrase rollover pops up a yellow-highlighted page number that wrongly adds 8 pages to the page number for the thumb and for the PDF page. Suspiciously, we have 8 pages with lowercase Roman numbers. Remember, viewing the same PDF, MacPreview works perfectly, producing identical and correct page numbers for the phrase, thumb, and PDF.

the method u followed is fine as need a page number staring from a specify value which u input.
@section is only for resetting page number to 1 for every group and for that pdf and ppt will be fine but only for rtf u need to use that ( pressing F9).
u can use @section and initial page number combined but they give u same output as get now. rtf output wont support it will only reset 1 every time
What ever u do rtf output wont support initial page number code ..........
i mentioned that F9 work around to mention that it is the only work around u have upto now to control rtf output with regards to page number.
Guru's correct me if i am wrong. wait for a day or two if some one from guru's confirm it .
If u need real confirmation raise an SR oracle will let u know .

  • Using Pages, how do I get out of "facing pages?"

How do I get out of "facing pages" when using PAGES ?

Hi Joanne, I don'y have Pages, but perhaps we can work backwards from this info in it's PDF on usage...
Here are ways to view facing pages:
Click View in the toolbar and choose Page Thumbnails to view facing pages in the thumbnail view.
Click the Page View control in the bottom-left corner of the window, and then choose Two Up from the pop-up menu to view facing pages side by side in the main document window.

  • Add page number in footer through VBA

    Hi Everyone,
First post so be gentle with me.
I have inherited an Excel app which creates a pdf file, and I have been asked to add page numbers to the pdf. So I am hoping I can do this from VBA. So far I have found this way to access the pdf doc from VBA:
    Sub myPDF()
Dim app As Object, avDoc As Object
        Dim stTest As String
        Dim stPath As String
        stPath = "C:\"
        stTest = "Test.pdf"
        Set app = CreateObject("AcroExch.App")
        app.Show
        Set avDoc = CreateObject("AcroExch.AVDoc")
        If avDoc.Open(stPath & stTest, "") Then
If avDoc.IsValid = False Then Exit Sub
            avDoc.BringToFront
        End If
        Set app = Nothing
        Set avDoc = Nothing
    End Sub
So that opens the required PDF file. Now I'm hoping that I can do the equivalent of :
    Document....Header & Footer....Add
and set it up to display the page numbers in the centre footer of each page.
    Thanks for any help,

  • Page Number in footer won't print

I am working in Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.0.0.  The document is combined of imported Microsoft Word & Excel 2010.  I have been able to add a background and a footer with the page numbers.  Both show in the electronic document.  When I print, only the background prints, not the footer with the page numbers.  Is there a setting I can change or something else I need to do in order to have the page numbers print?

  • How to start page number in footer lower down

I'm creating an inventory catalog and I need to have all the pages numbered. I know how to insert the page numbers using the master pages, but they always start right at page 1. The first 8 pages are going to be a table of contents and need their own separate roman numeral page numbers.
So pages 1-8 need to be labled I-VIII
and pages 9 - whenever need to be labled 1 - whenever
Is there a way to do this, or am I going to have to label each individual page?

You can create a new section starting on page 9. In the page panel select page 9, right click, choose Numbering and Sections Options/Start Page Numbering at 1. It will probably warn you that 1 already exist. Click OK. Now select the first page of the document, right click, Star Page Numbering at 1, Style and choose the roman numerals.

  • Page Number does not display on every page

I am having a problem showing the page number on every page. I can get it to show on the first page if I place the XML tags at the top OR if I place the XML tags at the bottom then it shows only on the last page.
I tried to use the <?body-start?><?body-end?> tags and placing the page number in front of or behind these. I have tried to insert the native word page number functionality as well as <?fo:page-number?> and get the same results.
Any help would be greatly appreciated -
    Thanks,

I have inserted the page number in the RTF and it definitely shows up on the first page but not on any of the following pages.
As a side note - if I use Word's header and put anything up there it does not show up at all on the template.

  • Change report margins according to even or odd page number

    Greetings specialist!
I have a question regarding how can i change the left and right margins of a document depending wether it's an odd or even page.
I would like to know if its possible to setup a different header and footer for odd and even pages as well.
I tried using this formula in the left margin property of the report
    =IIF((Globals!PageNumber Mod 2)=0,"2,5cm","2cm")
But it doesn't allow me :(
    Thank you for your time

    Hello Visakh16
    Thanx for the help.
What do you mean by applying paging? It is not user input.
My question was whether user will decide number of rows based on which paging has to be done or is it based on some value grouping etc

  • Excel - insert page number into cell

    Hi
I have a cell with the text TL- in. In the cell next to it I want to have the page number so it will read
TL-01 on the first page and TL-02 on the second etc. I thought it might be easier to have the text in on cell (this won't change) and the page number in a separate one.
The page number needs to be in this cell and NOT in the header or footer.
Any suggestions. I thought something like this would be easy.......

I fear that the PageNumber function is inherently slow. It's much better to use the page header or page footer to display the page number - since that is built-in functionality, it's
    much faster.

  • Text Variable Help? Beginning section page number required

    Hi guys,
My name is Arjun and I am working on a book in Indesign. I've created quite a few sections and want to create a header on top that displays,
    for example
"Summary FirstX to LastX" (in bold are the variables)
First X being that Sections first page number
Last X being that Sections last page number
There is a default preset that came with Indesign CS4 that allows you to create a Text variable for the last page number of that section. What about the beginning? I don't wan to turn that to static text as i have a lot of page shuffling to do and the more the automated the better.
    Thanks,
    Arjun

I hadn't noticed that there isn't a First Page Number text variable building block. How odd.
I would try setting up a "cross-reference" to the first paragraph in your section. (This is not part of the text variable dialog. Use the cross-reference window under Type & Tables in the Windows menu). I assume these will work on master pages, though I haven't tried it. It does seem odd that you'd need to use completely different tools for each page number!
Be aware that there's now a hidden marker at the beginning of that paragraph, which the cross reference uses to know what page number to insert. So if you accidentally remove it (for instance, if you delete and retype the whole paragraph), you'll have to set up the cross reference again. And you'll have to explicitly create that cross reference in each section of your book, while the text variables are pretty automatic. So there could easily be a better solution that I haven't thought of.
Good luck, and tell us what finally works...

  • Dynamically use page number in form field on spawned pages?

I have a form with spawned pages.  JS for spawning page(s) works fine.  However, one text field on template is driving me nuts.  I would like this field ("CaseNum") to dynamically display page number, since page number also corresponds to case number.  On templage ("getcase"), I can calculate value for CaseNum using custom calc script (event.value = this.PageNum).  But that doesn't work because every spawned page gets the same value (ie, whatever is last spawned page number). I also tried JS below, using P0.getcase.CaseNum as the field on the template in which I want the page number/case number to be displayed:
    var oPage = this.pageNum;
      this.getField("P" + oPage + ".getcase" + ".CaseNum").value = oPage;
But, this doesn't work either, because the field on the spawned page automatically gets the prefix of P + page number + .getcase appended to the field name.  Is there any way to dynamically used page number in a form field on spawned pages?  If so, how? Note that while I am trying to use a dynamic case number on spawned pages, it presents the same issue as dynamically displaying page numbers on spawned pages.  I'm a JS newbie, so any help appreciated.  I've searched high and low on web and in forums and couldn't find the answer.  Thx.

  • How to fix where page number appears

I completed book and submitted to iTunes via Producer. No errors noted. But there is one that I had to do a workaround for. Randomly (?) a page number appeared in the middle of the page rather than in the lower corner. I couldn't access it to move it or delete it. Does anyone know how to fix it or what I have done wrong? I made a small box and copied over the page numbers that appeared out of place on the page and then made the text flow around it so no one would know there was a page number there. I would like to fix it, though. Help! Thanks!

What  I find confusing is that you say could not move or delete the number...but it will move once you place a text box with wrap.
In the  template, make the footer number editable ...in Inspector. second icon right. leave unlocked till you resolve all problems
There are times when changing objects in the template layout  have little or no effect  on a work page, so at times when moving an object and saving changes in fact duplicates the object on the work.
If the footer page number box is moved out of place and you cannot see the number in iBA work page, it because it has been pushed down a layer or more.  The only way to resolve this is to bring it to the front..this will dhow the outline of every object that is not visible..then by moving content to make it visible..and then move it into place and then rebuild your page.
You can try selecting everything and in Arrange ..bring To front..it may leave the page number box visible.
Apple may yet issue a ticket about hidden objects, unless the book  got away with it and is in the store.
