Possible to backup & restore SMS on iPhone 5 w/o iTunes?

I recently brought my iPhone 5 into Apple because it was acting glitchy and much slower than it should. I learned that the software had been corrupted and that in order to solve the problem I needed to do a complete restore on the phone and set it up as a new device. My dilemma is that I have several SMS/text messages that I would really like to keep on my phone. I'm aware of third party software that will allow you to extract/backup your messages to your computer, but nothing that will sync them back to your iPhone once the "new phone" is setup. Is this possible? Is there an app or software that will allow you to do th
Obviously, iTunes backs my SMS messages up and can sync them back to my iPhone, but because the software on my phone is corrupt I cannot use my iTunes backup when restoring my phone.

Hello Tanja,
It may help to restore your iPhone as new, then restore from the backup.

You may use 3rd party software to take backup of your messages. You will also be able to read them.

  • Contacts deleting by themselves and iPhone needs a full backup restore after refusing to sync with iTunes. - Pls Help!

I have had my new iPhone 5s since the middle of December 2013 and I really enjoy it, however, I'm finding the iOS a little unstable.
I backup often - whether to iCloud or to my iMac at my office or to my Acer Windows 7 based Notebook at home, and I have had to do a full backup restore of my phone software after it suddenly refused to sync with iTunes. The only option open to me was "Restore iPhone" which also is a nuisance and takes a little while if you have a lot of content on your phone. I've had to do this 3 times now and it's getting on my nerves!
Also, as I type this, my contacts are suddenly removing themselves from my phone book. I discovered this as I was going through my Whatsapp messages when I noticed a few numbers in my recent chats that didn't have names or contact pictures. When I scrolled to the top of the message, I noticed that the "add contact" detail was suddenly available. I immediately checked my phone book and noticed that those contacts are no longer available. A lot of my numbers are suddenly showing up like this within the last hour and I haven't changed any settings at all. I back up to my notebook and iCloud once a week. This problem is a first for me  as well.
I must point out that I never had these issues with my iPhone 3GS which was only becoming cumbersome due to its outdated OS and because of its processing speed.
Will I need to wait for the next IOS Update to solve this problem, or will I have to find an alternative solution?
Any advice you have to offer would be most welcome.

Simplify your question, will you? I have trouble in reading such a long English article.

  • Problem restoring Iphone 4 backup onto my new Iphone 5 with Itunes!

I just purchased a new Iphone 5, started it and in the configuration chose restore from itunes backup. The Iphone was connected to Itunes and the Iphone 4 backup restored onto my new phone, however only very few apps made it to the new Iphone 5! Any idea? Diskspace is the same on both phones and not full at all.

iTunes 10.7 and the iPhone 5 require Mac OS X 10.6.8 or newer. Mac OS X 10.6.8 requires an Intel Mac with at least 1GB of RAM; to get it, click here, buy and install the DVD, and run Software Update.

  • How can i retrieve my password to access my backup restore for my iphone

how can i retrieve for backup password for my iphone

If you use a Mac, when you set a password you can select to store the password in the keychain for retriever.
Warning: If you encrypt an iPhone backup in iTunes and then forget your password, you will not be able to restore from backup and your data will be unrecoverable. If you forget the password, you can continue to back up and use the device, however you will not be able to restore the encrypted backup to any device without the password. You do not need to enter the password for your backup each time you back up or sync.
If you cannot remember the password and want to start again, you must perform a full software restore and when iTunes prompts you to select the backup from which to restore, choose set up as a new device.

  • Headphones not working after backup restore on new iPhone 6

My new iPhone seemed to work perfectly until i decided to to restore from the last back up copy of my iPhone 4S.  After the restore all the apps, data, and contacts were working fine, however the iphone headphone jack was not transmitting sound.  I tried several different headphones, and AUX cables without result.
I decided to erase all data, and set up the phone as a "new iphone".  When this was done the headphone jack worked properly, however the data, apps, and contacts not available.
It seems to me the problem is with my back up file, however I have no idea what to do.  How do I keep my contacts, pictures, apps, notes, etc., and have the headphones work with my new iphone?
Thanks for any help you may provide.

If this is your iCloud email account, go to Settings>iCloud, turn Mail off, then turn it on again.
If it's a different email account, delete the account and recreate it again.

  • Backup/save/restore voice memos iPhone 5c and iTunes 11.4

In the music tab I have it checked to include my voice memos but I can't find them in iTunes.  I search by name; nothing.  No playlist, no section in music.  They are nowhere.  I can use iBrowse to grab them, but they are all just a bunch of numbers and composition folders... that's not very useful.

The following has a section on how to find them in iTunes that may help: http://www.idownloadblog.com/2014/02/23/how-to-transfer-voice-memos-iphone-compu ter/

  • I completed a System Restore on my iPhone 3g and itunes screwed up (URGENT)

I was having major technical issues involving really bad lag and random blackouts.
So, I tried to do a system restore. Before itunes would let me do anything, I was required to do an update. After I updated, I proceeded to do the system restore. Finally after the restore process ended, my iPhone restarted and there was no data on it. On iTunes, it recognized my iPhone as "Unknown".
I have a feeling that when iTunes updates it deletes (or at least, doesn't automatically backup your device info).
Is there a certain folder (on windows vista 32bit home premium) that contains all of the old itunes data even for iPhones and other devices that I can access and manually put back into iTunes?
Please help, this is extremely urgent.

    Hi McCrubb!

  • Backup/restore my iPad and iPhone using Time Capsule?

    Hi,
I'm considering to get the Time Capsule but I don't know if it is possible to backup my iPad and iPhone in the Wireless hard drive. If anybody has tried that it would be great if you can share how to do it.
    Thanks!

iPad and iPhone back up to iTunes on your computer....or....to iCloud.
If you back up to iTunes, when your Mac backs up to the Time Capsule, the data in iTunes is included.
More info on iOS backups is in this Apple support document:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766
If your question is whether an iOS device can backup directly to the Time Capsule, the answer would be no.

  • Erase and sync issues (backup/restore)

    Hello.
I have an issue with the backup/restore with my iPhone.
Sometimes, it is difficult to find an answer that fits your problem exactly on the forum!  Lots of good stuff though!
This post will be little longer than normal, but I need to get all the facts on the table.
I'll try to keep this brief.  Please hear me out!
    From another post ...
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/12273122
    Kwopau stated ...
if you do a restore, you only have 2 options, Restore as new, meaning nothing will go on it
and you will just have to start fresh and no contacts will go in there.
The other option is "Restore from Back up _______" it will completely restore your phone
from your last back up and everything will be on there.
    End of quote ...
    Here is my situation.
    I have a 3g 16GB iPhone.
I am still running IOS 3 (not IOS 4).
I do not use sync.  I  manually manage the music and books with iTunes.
    I have an HP laptop.
A while ago, I had to completely rebuild the computer.
The computer has a new computer and user name (I don't know if this matters in iTune/iPhone matchup)?
I have not been able to connect the iPhone since then.
    Let me rephrase that.
I can connect with iTunes.  I can see all that is on the iPhone.
When I try to add or delete music or books on the iPhone with iTunes or set the manually manage check box, I get the following message ...
The iPhone "myname's iPhone" is synced with another iTunes library.
Do you want to erase this iPhone and sync with the this iTunes library.
Most commands appear to be grayed  out,  I can't add or delete anything.
I do not have anything in current  iTunes library at the moment.
    My fear is this.
If I do the erase and sync as suggested  (iPhone message above) to the iPhone and then use the new iTunes library,  will I be able to use the backup (I just created) to restore to the iPhone that I just reset?
If so, will it have contacts and all the other stuff?
I can afford to lose the music and books, and perhaps the apps on the iPhone.
I cannot afford to lose my contact list.
I need to find another way to backup the contact list, Outlook, etc?
If there other posts relative to this, please point me to them.
I am afraid to pull the trigger for fear that iTunes will not recognize the iPhone after the erase and sync and then not allow me to restore.
Perhaps someone can put my mind at ease and convince me that it will all be good if I proceed!
Thanks for you time and help in this matter ...
    Bob

Do you know how to transfer purchases? Connect the iPad to the PC and launch iTunes. Click on the iPad nema on the left side of the iTunes window to select it. Then go to File>Transfer Purchases. That should put all of your purchased iPad content into the iTunes library on the PC.
Here are instructions in a very short, easy to follow article.
Transfer iTunes Library to a new computer
This discussion will be helpful to show you how to make the PC work wTunes from the iPad.

This is the discussion from which I borrowed the some of the text in my post from the discussion above.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/11527071#11527071
What puzzles me is that if you had updated with the PC, I would have thought that you would have backed up and synced with that PC as well, but read the articles and instructions and post back with questions.
You can email the pdf files to the iPad, or use iOS file sharing, and open and save them in iBooks or another pdf reader app, but start with getting your stuff onto the PC.

  • Restoring a crashed iphone

How long is it supposed to take to do a "restore" on the iphone? (thru itunes of course..)
    Here is my situation:
I was sitting on the couch watching tv, and all the sudden the phone (which was sitting idle on the coffee table) pops up with the "connect to itunes" GUI on the screen. No other functionality whatso ever.
So I go to plug in the phone and itunes gives me the "you need to restore this iphone message". With no other choice, I hit the restore and now my phone and itunes have been stuck in the "upgrade" loop for over 30 minutes. Itunes says 'waiting for Iphone' and the iphone just has the little activity icon spinning. I cannot tell if anything is actually happening?
How long is a restore supposed to take? Seriously...I did not even have 4 gb worth of junk on this phone. (I have the 8gb USA version, never been hacked)
Can anyone provide some feedback for me?

    Jason
I am also having the same problem.
Jason, I've tried to do so but no success. It seems iphone is constantly on recovery mode (Itunes will recognize it as such soon after I plug it in without me interfering).
There are numerous threads around stating the same problem (eg. http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1303809 ).
If Apple reads this forum, please help address this problem.

  • HT1414 Is it possible backup pics from my Iphone after restoring??please help!!

Is it possible to backup all pics on my Iphone 4s after restoring? I got back contacts, but how to backup my pics and videos? Please help!!

You should be importing all pics and vids taken with your iphone to your comuter regularly as you would with any digital camera, particularly before any update or restore.
If you failed to do this, then they are likely gone.
You can try restoring from backup
