Possible to change date format when importing files into Aperture 3

Just wondering if it is possible to change the format of the date from YYYY-MM-DD to YYYYMMDD when you rename files as they are imported into Aperture 3? I typically rename my files and insert my initials, date the photo was taken, sequence number, camera used and original file name. When I do this in Aperture 3, the date format used includes dashes. I would like to have the file renamed without the dashes in the date. Is this possible?

You should be able to edit the format in the import presets. I have done this for folder stucture of imports, I believe you can do the same for the file renaming. At the bottom of the drop down box for file naming at improt should be an edit option which brings up the import naming presets, select the "YYYY-MM-DD" and remove the dashes.

when importing files into fcpx from go pro hero2, some are importing as .mov and some as .mp4. when making a multi cam clip it will only add one type, if you try and add the other it says camera clip cannot be processed. need to figure out why it randomly imports differently, or how to add different file tyoes to multi cam.

here is one that is imported and stays .mp4. the specs are same as original file before import.
here is one that has changed somehow during import. specs on original file are same as above, but once it is imported it changes to this in event folder, and others randomly keep the above specs.

You can seelct to leace the files where they are, copy into Aperture or else put them someplace else on the HD.

  • Dates get randomly changed when importing folders into Aperture

I am in the process of migrating my iPhoto pictures over to Aperture. Because I have close to 100k pictures and short clips, I can not import my entire 500 GB library at once because I don't have enough hard drive space to support both iPhoto and Aperture libraries at the same time. I also thought it might make sense to not have one gigantic library. Also I would like to have my old photos separated by years, and I don't know if Aperture would do this if I imported the entire iPhoto library (which does only separate them by events) at once. So it appears to me that the only import method that would work (please correct me if this is wrong) would be to open the "Masters" directory of iPhoto in the Finder, and drag and drop each year's directory into the "Projects/Library" panel in Aperture. Note that I do not want any editing information preserved from iPhoto, so using the Masters seems to be the most space efficient thing. So far so good but there appear to be at least two big snags. Firstly the yellow projects folders within each blue years folder in Aperture are not in chronological but in alphabetical order and I can't find out how to fix this. Secondly (and much more problematically) the dates on many old photos have been altered in an apparent random manner during the import into Aperture! Therefore they do appear in the wrong locations in my events library, according to the altered date. There are many too many photos that have been changed to undo this manually (I estimate it would take several weeks to do this).
But how and why could this have happened in the first place?
I also noticed that even when I change the dates of the Aperture masters to the true ones (by comparing to the masters in iPhoto), they still remain in the same wrong location in my Projects/Events library, according to the date originally (and falsely) assigned by Aperture.
There surely has to be a way to import photos into Aperture without ruining their date stamp?
Thanks in advance for your help!

    Hi iScientist,
If I understand you correctly I should not import iPhoto Masters directly, because they have been altered to be in some kind of internal organization scheme. What I'm confused about is that I thought the "Masters" in iPhoto were just untouched camera files?
Yes, I would also be confused. The more I think about it, the less I know why anything wrong. You stated that you don't care about any adjustments you made in Aperture, so why wouldn't be okay to "reach into" iPhoto's internal database and pull out the masters? Good question. The only thing I can come up with: Maybe that folder isn't really what you think it is.
Were you able look at the metadata in Preview after finding one of the problematic masters in the iPhoto library again? That might give a clue.
When you say "regular way", do you mean going to "Import -> iPhoto library"? The problem with this, it seems, is that my entire iPhoto library will be imported that way, however I would like to import it chunks, split in years and on different physical media
Yes, that is what I meant. There have been various topics in this forum concerning how to import parts of the iPhoto library. I cannot seem to find any relevant posts at the moment. Perhaps someone else has better luck searching...
In any case, you may be better off using *referenced masters* instead of multiple libraries. With multiple libraries, your photos will be disjointed by whatever scheme you devise (like years). So, when you're looking at 2011, and you want that Christmas photo from 2010, you will need to close Aperture and restart it with a new library.
With referenced masters, you choose to store a particular set of *masters only* (maybe all of them) in another location. You can put different sets of masters in different places. For instance, you can have one project on one external hard drive, and a different project on a different external drive. Your versions, metadata, previews, thumbnails, all stay in the library. In this way, you can at least view screen-sized versions of last Christmas even if your "2010" external hard drive is not connected.
Looking at manual for references to referenced may be good for you before you delve too deep into this.
What I meant by order being unchanged/the file being in the wrong location is that in the chronologically organized projects overview the projects that were imported with the wrong date, which I changed to the correct date in Metadata, still appear in the wrong location.
Ahh, that is a bug that users discovered a little while ago. It took me a while to re-find the thread, but you can read up on that here. I (among others hopefully) have provided feedback to Apple concerning that bug.

I didn't think about that view because that view is not generally as useful as the list view in the Inspector pane. That view is new to Aperture 3 and in my opinion was built to make the transition for users of iPhoto easier.

  • Wrong date format when import CSV files

When you import a CSV file that contains fields with German date formats, these fields are displayed incorrectly.
Example: Contents of the CSV file "01.01.14". After importing the corresponding cell in Numbers has the content "40178".
A reformat the cell to a date format is not possible.
How do I get the date in the new version of Numbers displayed correctly?

It seems that there are more than a few problems related to import/export with non-US localizations.
I, personally, don't have a solution to your problem. I started to adjust my Language & Region settings to test your problem but it was several settings, I didn't get it right, and I didn't want to mess up my computer so I set everything back to US/English.
The only workarounds I can suggest are
Insert a new column into your table and in it put a formula that adds the number to the date 01.01.1904.  Or,
Edit the CSV in TextEdit to Replace All "." with "/".  This will work if "." is used for nothing else but these dates.
I recommend the second one if it will work for you. Hopefully Apple is addressing problems such as the one you are seeing.

  • Date mismatch when importing files in Library

I am importing files in my Aperture Library using:
    1/ Referenced Files,
2/ renaming my files with the following preset: <Custom Name>_Year of picture.Month of picture.Day of picture_Counter, and
3/ asking Aperture to copy the Master file into folder using the Year>Month hierarchy.
There are series of pictures which a) have been taken during the same event, b) with the same camera, with c) apparently all correct Metadata, for which I will end up with:
A> Pictures correctly renamed and stored; and also
B> Pictures renamed as of January 1st 2001, and stored in the folder 2001>01, while the metadata states the correct date, e.g. not 2001, but say September 2008.
    Please help!!!
    Thanks

Hi there....  thanks for your response.  I hadn't ticked "show the import dialogue".  When I did though I noticed that the box "Do Not Import Suspected Duplicates" was ticked in the Dialogue.  Unchecking that & then waiting for all of the images to load in the dialogue window (I have 115,000 images on the drive) seems to have solved the problem.  At least 98 3/4% anyway.  There's still a slight discrepancy in numbers between the catalogues on both my home & my work computers, but this is down to only 5 or so across various folders.  I can't explain why that would be.  There seems to be lots of other weird things going on which leads me to suspect LR5 is not playing nicely with Mavericks.  it's frustrating because up until now I've found Lightroom to be 100% reliable, but I'm now feeling like I need to double check every import & export.  if it continues it may be the catalyst to make me finally jump to Capture One.  Anyway, thanks again for your reply.

  • Is it possible to change date format in Web Dynpro?

    Hi,
I have an input field that is mapped to a context data type of date.  It is showing me the data in the format of "mm/dd/yyyy".
Is it possible for me to change this format to "dd/mm/yyyy"?
I know it is possible to alter the Regional Setting in a Windows box.  What about Solaris box?  Are there specific properties within Web Dynpro that I could set so that I do not have to remember to change it everytime.  I have a few environments that I need to deploy to, so it makes sense for me to set the format into Web Dynpro.

    Hi Stefan,
Could you be more elaborate?  What happens after that?  How do I populate data from the database to this new type?
Currently, I can't find the Base Type of "date" in the lookup box.  Do you mean the Built-In Type?
    Thanx.

  • Error when importing file into CS5

When I tried to import an Illustrator CS5 file into Flash CS5, I got an error from Windows saying that the program "stopped working" and it was searching for solutions to the problem. When it found no solutions, it said that it had to close the program. I've tried three times now and the same thing keeps happening. Has anyone else encountered this and, if so, do you know how to fix it? Please let me know. Thanks!

    Hi there,
I can reproduce the crash. It's seems to be related to Importing all layers to Stage, and selecting the "Place objects at original position" option. All other combinations seem to not crash, so at least it helps isolate what's happening and provides an option for you to import your artwork and continue with your site. I will file a bug and send this to the correct folks for evaluation - I'm not too sure what the conflict is between the AI file and Flash (it's not due to not having AI installed).
    Thanks for posting it!

  • Odd happenings when importing aplibraries into Aperture

I was/am creating a compilation Aperture library of some older aplibraries = So far they're coming in fine but I just noticed a few odd things.  There are three libraries/projects which are not coming in correctly - each one has 200+ images [I probably exported them out of a different Library but they have been upgraded so all are now at the correct current level of Aperture].
When I have the main browser open to see the projects only separately the images are there for these three projects just fine.  But when I click to Go to the Project the screen is blank.  And the 3 are not listed in the listing on the L side of the browser.  I tried to reimport and it asked whether I wanted to merge and I said yes and still did not work.
So, although I have [I thought] imported those projects and they do show up in the project browser [of images] they do not show up on the L side list nor do any images show up when I click on the project icon.

  • Change date format in dashboard promt and calendar

    hi,
do any one know how to change the date format when using the calendar option in dashboard prompt. As the user picks a date from the calendar the format becomes DD-MM-YYYY. The customer would like YYYY-MM-DD!!
    Any suggestions?

Hi Jose, i tried to update the settings in the NQSConfig.INI file, but there was no luck.
I would like to mention my issue here again.
I have a dashboard prompt built on a Date Column and I would like to see it as a Calendar Type. The value of this prompt is save in a variable pDate.
In the answer, i have a filter on a date column(This is exactly the same column used to build the Prompt). The filter i set as Advance SQL Filter as I want to use the TimeStampAdd function.
    The filter is set as Date_Key = TimeStampAdd(SQL_TSI_DAY, -6, '@{pDate}')
The above request when ran from the dashboard, gives me the following error:
    Error Codes: OPR4ONWY:U9IM8TAC:OI2DL65P
State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 17001] Oracle Error code: 932, message: ORA-00932: inconsistent datatypes: expected DATE got NUMBER at OCI call OCIStmtExecute. [nQSError: 17010] SQL statement preparation failed. (HY000)
    SQL Issued: SELECT Calendar."Time Id" saw_0, "Sales Facts"."Amount Sold" saw_1 FROM SH WHERE Calendar."Time Id" = TimeStampAdd(SQL_TSI_DAY, -6, '01/01/2002 12:00:00 AM') ORDER BY saw_0
My understanding is that the Calendar control is populating pDate variable in 'mm/dd/yyyy hh:mi:ss' Format, while the TimeStampAdd function expect the variable as 'yyyy-mm-dd hh:ss:mi' Format.
Is there any other place that we need to update on the server that will force the Calendar to return the prompt value in 'YYYY-MM-DD HH:MI:SS' Format ?
    Thanks

  • How to import data from a text file into a table

    Hello,
I need help with importing data from a .csv file with comma delimiter into a table.
I've been struggling to figure out how to use the "Import from Files" wizard in Oracle 10g web-base Enterprise Manager.
I have not been able to find a simple instruction on how to use the Wizard.
I have looked at the Oracle Database Utilities - Overview of Oracle Data Pump and the Help on the "Import: Files" page.
Neither one gave me enough instruction to be able to do the import successfully.
Using the "Import from file" wizard, I created a Directory Object using the Create Directory Object button. I Copied the file from which i needed to import the data into the Operating System Directory i had defined in the Create Directory Object page. I chose "Entire files" for the Import type.
Step 1 of 4 is the "Import:Re-Mapping" page, I have no idea what i need to do on this page. All i know i am not tying to import data that was in one schema into a different schema and I am not importing data that was in one tablespace into a different tablespace and i am not R-Mapping datafiles either. I am importing data from a csv file.
For step 2 of 4, "Import:Options" page, I selected the same directory object i had created.
For step 3 of 4, I entered a job name and a description and selected Start Immediately option.
What i noticed going through the wizard, the wizard never asked into which table do i want to import the data.
I submitted the job and I got ORA-31619 invalid dump file error.
I was sure that the wizard was going to fail when it never asked me into which table do i want to import the data.
I tried to use the "imp" utility in command-line window.
After I entered (imp), i was prompted for the username and the password and then the buffer size as soon as i entered the min buffer size I got the following error and the import was terminated:
    C:\>imp

Please show me the easiest way to import a text file into a table. How complex could it be to do a simple import into a table using a text file?
We are testing our application against both an Oracle database and a MSSQLServer 2000 database.
I was able to import the data into a table in MSSQLServer database and I can say that anybody with no experience could easily do an export/import in MSSQLServer 2000.
I appreciate if someone could show me how to the import from a file into a table!

  • In Lightroom 4, is it possible to change the resolution when exporting to Facebook?

Is it possible to change the resolution when exporting a photo to Facebook using either the regular plugin or Jeffrey Friedl's plugin?  I can't seem to do it; I only have control over the image dimensions, not the resolution and the dimensions, as you can see in the screen shots below:
I have control over both when I export to my hard drive (or a flash drive, etc.), as you can see below:
I can't find the option to control the resolution when I try to export to Facebook.  Before I got Lightroom 4, I would create whole new low-resolution files of images I wanted to post online using Photoshop.  The image size settings I would use are a longest edge of 10 inches at 72ppi, and I would like to continue doing this.  If I can only set the longest side to 720 pixels (I can't even seem to set the longest edge to an inches value - I can only choose a pixels value) and not change the resolution from 300ppi to 72ppi, then my photos' longest edge will only be less than 3 inches long (right?).  Thus, I really want to be able to upload low-resolution photos to Facebook via Lightroom with the ability to change both the resolution and the image dimensions.  Any idea how to do it without having to export to my hard drive first?  Thanks!

    Rob Cole wrote:
I'd be inclined to set it to zero so it obviously doesn't mean anything
You can set it to whatever you like, and it makes no difference. Most of the time (depending on how you saved it), it will still open as "72".
When you save an image for web, the resolution is usually stripped from the file. It's simply not there anymore. That's probably what happens in the Lr facebook module, and that's why there's no entry for it.
But when you open that image somewhere else, that default of 72 ppi is assigned. Most apps need to know what to do with a file if asked to print it out. So there is a default, and that's usually 72, mostly by convention. With that default ppi, it prints out at a comparable size to what you see on screen at 1:1 display.
And when people see that, they think "hey, web images are 72 ppi". But they're not - that figure is just inserted there by the opening application.
