Possible to connect two base stations together?

What I want to do is connect my Mini, Wii, and X-Box 360 to an N network but it's too far from my DSL line coming in.
What I would like to see is if it is possible to have one base station connected to my DSL and another on the other side of the house connected to the devices...all at N speed on 5GHZ range.
Is this at all doable without a drop-off in speed?

Yes if you connect the 2 AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) via Ethernet.
If you connect them wirelessly there will be a bandwidth penalty.

  • Airport Express loses connection to base station

Airport Express second gen loses connection to base station, has to be reset.

Roger that.  Late 2013 MBP 2.5 i5 4mb ram, 10.9.1 Mavericks, formatted and hand loaded after questionable upgrade load.  Fast, flawless, no issues.
Airport Express configured to wirelessly extend existing network for the express purpose of supplying an analog
input to a stereo amplifier via airplay.  No other devices are connected to the AE.
The WAP is a Century Link Actiontec C1000A VDSL2 physically located 6 feet from the AE with no obstructions.
There are no existing proximal fortuitous distortion or RF interference sources.  Other 802.X networks near are
on non-conflicting channels.  The WAP is less than six months old and has no issues.
The WAP is configured  for MAC filtering with the SSID turned off.  In the allow list are two iphones, a printer, two more MBPs and the Airport Express.  One of the iphones is loaded with the Remote Ap which functions
flawlessly when the AE is connected.
The AE connects properly in the Extend Existing Network mode and performs as advertised as long as Air Play
    and/or itunes is active.
Some time after music has ended, the MBP has gone to sleep, or been shut down ... the Airport  Express loses its connection to the wireless network, with its amber light flashing.
Performing a reset and reconnecting is necesssary, and all works as advertised after.  Subsequently,
sleep, inactivity, or shutdown will cause loss of connection again.
I am aware the AE can be connected with CAT6, but that is unnaceptable.  If I had wanted to use wire I
would have plugged the MBP into the amplifier and saved $100.
My speculation is some sort of TCPIP flub in the design ... as in the AE does not natively transmit keep-alive
packets when it stops getting data from the Air Play computer.  It would be easy to decide whether to fix
the problem or return an inadequately designed product ... if there were any information about it.  No schematics, no operation description however leaves me only to say thank you for your time and hope
    you have the solution.

  • Connecting to Base Stations with an ethernet cable

Hi. Can anyone help figure this out please.
We have two airport extreme base stations at opposite ends of the building with one connected to the internet and printer etc and the other extending the network so everyone can access these services and each other.
Because they're some distance apart, we've connected the two base stations by ethernet cable with the second base station extending the network in Bridge Mode.
I can't figure out whether the ethernet cable from the main base station should go into the WAN or LAN ports on the back of the other base station. I've tried both and at the moment neither seem to be working.
Both base stations are brand new and the most recent model.
Can anyone advice on which port to sue and any settings I should be paying attention to please.
    Cheers.

Welcome to the discussion area, chriscurtis!

Suggest that you connect the ethernet cable from one of the LAN <-> ports on your main AirPort Extreme (AEBS) to the WAN (circle icon) on the remote AEBS. You may need to refer to some settings on your main AEBS to configure the remote AEBS correctly.
To effectively "extend" the network that your main AEBS is creating, you would configure the remote AEBS as follows using AirPOrt Utility - Manual Setup
Click the Base Station tab below the icons to name your device, establish a device password and adjust Time Zone Settings
    Click the Wireless tab
Wireless Mode = Create a wireless network (Not Extend as you might think because Extend is only used if you are connecting devices using wireless only. You are connecting using Ethernet)
Wireless Network Name = Exact same name as your main AEBS network
    Radio Mode = Automatic
    Radio Channel = Automatic
Wireless Security = Exact same setting as on your main AEBS
Wireless Password = Exact same password as your main AEBS network
    Confirm Password
    Click the Internet tab
    Connect Using = Ethernet
Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode)
Click Update to save settings and you should be good to go. You have what is known as a "roaming" network because computers will automatically connect to the AEBS with the best signal as they "roam" around the building. The ethernet ports on the remote AEBS will be active as well in case you need to plug a device in at that location. Post back on any questions that you may have.

  • Is it possible to connect two Macs via USB ?

Is it possible to connect two Macs via USB just like Firewire back in the day via Target mode or is there something similar? I am asking this because about 2-3 years ago I would normally image Macs via Target Mode. I used to have a regular Macbook running 10.6 along with a customized-ready-to-go .dmg image saved on the Desktop. Whenever I needed to put that image into any Mac I would simply connect the two Macs via Firewire, I would then press "T" at startup which will get me in Target Mode, I would then see the disk appear in the desktop of the Mac I had the image. I would then copy that image to the T mode macbook using super duper. Can this still be done through USB with new models and if so will I also need to press T at startup ?

No, USB connection does not qualify for this, only firewire and thunderbolt, as I read (but cannot test, for the time being I have only one such mac around).
This is why the short series of alu MBs (2008) are not qualified for target mode either.
p.s. What ‘new models’ do you refer to?

  • Printer No Longer Connects to Base Station after Airport Update

I recently installed the Airport Update and ever since my printer is no being seen by the Base Station. Before the update everything was working perfectly, now nothing. I've tried every possible solution I can think of with no luck. My printer is an Epson SP2200 and I'm trying to connect to an AirPort Extreme Base Station.
    Anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

The firmware is almost certainly the problem.
I have had this exact problem, had a samsung clp-300 working fine on an airport extreme for months, then the whole thing went pair shaped after a firmware update
Go to the link with instructions

I have solved my issue with airport and printer loss of recognition. Open Airport Utility and install Firmware 7.2.1 over the top of 7.3.2. Firmware versions are in a simple drop down list. Steps are: 1) Open the 5.3.2 version of Airport Utility 2) Select the Airport Extreme icon in the picture list on the left 3) Click Manual Set-Up button at the bottom 4) Menu "Base Station" -> "Upload Firmware"
    5) Select Firmware 7.2.1 from the dropdown list.
I tried this and it worked a treat. The problem is now resolved. I am using 10.5.4 on my iMac, but using 10.4 on a couple of macbooks as well. They are all functioning fine after I got rid of the update

  • Has anyone gotten this error when trying to connect to base station

I am getting a -6753 error eveytime I try to connect to the base station via the admin utility. I've tried both soft and hard re-starts but to no avail. Any suggestions? Thanks

    Hi jpnscr,
got a couple of these while setting up two Airport Extreme base stations. I got around this by a hard reset of each unit, and (ii) by using an Ethernet cable connection. For (ii), there was a really interesting difference between a brand-new simultaneous dualband AEBS which did require the Ethernet cable in one of the LAN ports, and an older Gigabit AEBS which could only be setup with the Ethernet cable in the WAN port. As long as I had the cable in the wrong port(s), I got the -6753 error.

  • Can't connect to base station...

    Hi,
I'm new to these boards and have to apologize that in advance that I'm not very knowledgable what I'm doing...any and all help would be appreciated!
Here's the situation, suddenly a few months ago I've been unable to connect to the airport. Our ethernet works fine (but who wants to plug in?). I've spent weeks now trying to narrow down the problem. After several calls with our ISP all we know is that it's with the Airport. Here are my leads:
    1) A year and a half or so ago, I know I "hid" the network so it only recognized two mac addresses...I saved the password in my keychain and that was that. I didn't think about it for a year and a half and I don't know what I did! Bad computer user, I know. Question --> Is there any way to undo all of these security settings and/or unlock our base station so we can make sure it's still broadcasting a signal at all?
    2) We have an older Airport (not express) I think it's the dual ethernet. We've tried to reset it (the old paperclip in the tiny hole thing) - does this mean we'd need to redo all of our settings?
    3) I've been able to use the assistant to get only so far, but it either doesn't include the base station in the list, or won't let us log on (says password is incorrect).
    4) Is it time to upgrade anyway?? If so, would we need to undo our settings to do this?
If anyone has had this issue and could point me toward a help topic thread or support link or offer advice it would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Leashed to the ethernet...
    iBook   Mac OS X (10.3)

Figured it out - security settings were incompatible.

  • 3 computers two base stations

I have 2 computers and an airtunes. All is good. Now I want to add a 3rd computer (IMAC G5 1.8ghz) there is no extreme card, but I do have my older extreme base station. How do I configure the base station to act like an airport extreme card? or do I just plunk the money down for an extreme card?

This might be possible, I have done it successfully with an AEBS connected to an old non-Airport iMac.
Connect the AEBS to your G5, and use Airport Utility to configure it to "join a wireless network". It simply worked for me, so I didn't give it much additional thought at the time.
There may be some other steps involved that I've forgotten. If you have trouble post a reply and I'll duplicate the setup again.

  • Lost connection to Base Station

I was on the internet Saturday night with no problem. I woke up Sunday morning and I had lost the connection to the Base Station (Extream). Tried the following...
    1. Restarted base station and modem. No Luck.
    2. Reset base station. No Luck.
    3. Tried setting up the base station with the Airport Setup Assistant. No Luck.
Could it be my Airport card in my iMac? Or my Base Station? Or something else?
    Thanks.

Could it be my Airport card in my iMac? Or my Base Station? Or something else?
    Yes it could.
Take a look at KB 106858, AirPort troubleshooting guide to try and narrow it down.

  • HT4259 Direct Connect  Two Time Capsules together with Ethernet.

I have TWO Time Capsules  ( One upstairs providing Time Machine backup to IMAC #1 )  and  (One downstairs providing Time Machine Backup to IMAC#2)
I would like to extend the wireless network portion of this to reach the whiole house with ONE wireless network. I know I can EXTEND the network, but my question is can Connect the two time capsules together via Ethernet cable ( my house is pre wired).  This will essentially ensure that the two devices have a solid connection instead of relying on WIRELESS.
Any reasons to NOT do this?
Time Machine will be used differently on the two devices.
    Thanks
    Ron

    Hello!
I have the same problem, i am trying to do this

from this one i have LAN to the other timecapsule to WAN.
On the first timecapsule i have DHCP/NAT enable.
On the second i have, Bridge mode.
But when i am connected with eth to the second one i wont recive dhcp addresses or anything... like it wont passtrough.
    Any ideas?

  • Not able to connect to base station after last security update

Since the lastest update came out, I am no longer able to connect to the same base station I was once able to connect to. I get my DSL through SBC, and the station is a 2Wire Gateway. My mac mini still is able to connect, since it didn't have the security update. Did this happen to anyone else when they got the airport update?
    Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I've got a similar problem. After the "AirPort Extreme Update 2007-001" was installed, i am only able to surf for approximately 30 minutes. Then my connections to the Internet stops working. When I disconnect and reconnect to my Accesspoint, my MacBookPro is unable to get an IP over DHCP. If I manually type an valid IP, the System Settings show that my Airport is connected to the Accesspoint and has connection to the Internet but it still doesn't work. The only thing that helps is to go in the "sleep mode" ("ruhezustand"), when i wake up my MBP i am able to surf for further 30 min, but even this doens't work always. When I tested the connection to the accesspoint under windows on the MBP everything worked fine.

  • Cannot connect to Base Station using Airport Utility

I purchased the AEBS over a month ago and as soon as I connected it to the modem, I was online. I followed the directions to setup a network and connected a printer. Everything worked smoothly, however, sometime shortly therafter, the printer communication stopped working and I could not check the settings of the base station using the airport utility. The airport utility could not see the Base Station whatsoever. The internet worked though. I had to do a hard reset on the AEBS and start from scratch. Everything worked again, but only for a short period of time. The airport utility would not see the BS again. So, what do I do to fix the problem.

Well, during setup, it asks to connect an ethernet cable from the PC to the LAN <--> port on the AE. So, that's part of the standard setup and I believe is how the PC communicates to the AE. The only wireless device I use on the network is my Droid phone. I plan on connecting another computer whenever I get a new one. I'll look again to make sure that I did it right when I get home tonight.

  • HP C3180 - Can I SCAN with this All-In-One connected to base station?

I bought a HP C3180 all in one Printer/Scanner/Copier and I have it connected to my Airport Extreme base station.
My question is, is there any way to Scan with this via the USB connection to the Airport Base Station ? Or do I have to connect it directly to the Mac?
    Thanks for any input
    Happy 4th,
    -Rob

    Robbie:
You will have to connect the device directly to the computer to scan. Scanning is not supported when connected to the Airport.
I've heard several explanations as to why this is the case. Some say it is a poorly written driver by the printer manufacturers and others say it is a limitaion of the Airport. I'm not sure which is correct but bottom line is, it doesn't work.
    Hope this helps.

  • My base station blink amber, but MBP says connected, My base station blink amber, but MBP says connected

I'm trying to install airport extreme, the base station blink orange, but my MBP says it's connected.  Shouldn't the light on the base station be green also?

Open AirPort Utility and click Manual Setup
Click directly on the word "Status" (2nd line) and a window will open to explain why the AirPort Extreme is complaining
What does the message say?  It might be something as simple as a notice that an update is available for  your device.
