Possible to control monitor sleep via HDMI through receiver?

I've got the mid-2010 mini connected to a Pioneer VSX-1020 via HDMI, which is sending the signal to my Samsung LCD TV. I've noticed that the monitor sleep function is not working, and I would really like to do this for non-video needs.
There could be some power management issue that is beyond control of the mini since if I switch off the TV, the Pioneer switches off as well, but I was wondering if anyone else has noted and solved a similar issue.
FYI: For those looking to build a new HT system, the VSX-1020 is a fantastic feature/$ deal.

You cannot convert HDMI to VGA without some serious digital to analog conversion equipment. You cannot use a simple passthough device like you can do with a DVI-I to VGA cable adapter. You will need to use an HDMI cable and a monitor that has an HDMI or DVI-I/D connector.

When I connect my Mac Mini 2011 with Lion to a TV via HDMI and an earphone cable is plugged in, it´s not possible to choose sound out via hdmi, as opposed to connection via the minidisplay port. Anybody knows how to fix this?

Was just on the phone with Apple about this.
The solution was as follows for me anyway...
    Go to your Finder
    Choose the Go Menu
    Choose Computer
    Choose your Macintosh Hard Drive
    Choose your "Library" Folder
    Choose the "Preferences" Folder
There should be a folder called "Audio"
Move that whole folder to the trash
    Empty the Trash
    Restart from the Apple Menu
    When you are back up and running;
Choose System Preferences from the Apple Menu
         Choose Sound
In the output tab you should now be able to make the HDMI "Sticky"
Enjoy your sound over HDMI and no more dirty knees or broken backs unplugging the desktop speakers!

  • Precision M6800 to monitor U3011 via HDMI cable

I just wanted to connect my Precision M6800 to the U3011 monitor using a HDMI cable. The U3011 has a native resolution of 2560 x 1600. At the monitor menu I have selected HDMI-1 input. On the laptop I pressed "WIN" + P to select the most right option "Connect to projector only".  After some seconds I get an error message "Unable to connect to projector, no projector detected".

    Hi Asu744,
This system uses Nvidia Optimus technology to help improve the battery life of your system. Basically this is the ability to switch between Nvidia and Intel video cards depending on the graphical needs of the application your running at the time. This option can be disabled in the BIOS, doing this would force the system to use only the more powerful NVidia video card. To disable, boot to the system setup (BIOS) using F2 at start up and ensure that Optimus is disabled in the Video settings.
With the Nvidia driver updated you should now be able to set up the external display through the ‘Nvidia Control Panel’ this can be accessed by right clicking the desktop background and clicking the Nvidia Control Panel. Once in the Nvidia control panel, Click “Set up multiple displays” (should be on the left side under the displays category) then select the displays desired to be shown in the right panel. Click Apply in the bottom right of the Nvidia Control Panel to save your settings and the click Yes to confirm.
Let us know how it goes!

  • Monitor audio via HDMI or Optical?

My Saffire interface just died and I am looking for audio solutions other than firewire or even usb because I am now using a Retina MacBook which has HDMI. I am running 5 M-Audio speakers powered from a subwoofer.
Is anyone outputting audio through this - I want to monitor 5.1 surround? Instead of buying a new usb interface I could get a tv style receiver for HDMI and output to my speakers that way. Could be good enough to mix and monitor.
USB audio interfaces with 6 outputs are fairly expensive so this would save some bucks.

I monitor surround sound via my MiniDisplay Port to HDMI. So for your retina, you can use the Thuderbolt to HDMI connection. Look here for more details https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3639822
I use this to monitor and mix surround sound within AVID Media Composer.

  • Controlling Display Sleep via Applescript

    Hello,
I'm looking to create a script that will change the display sleep setting to 1 minute. Is this possible? If so, I also want to make a second script to change the display sleep to 1 hour.
I have only a very basic comprehension of AppleScript and I've tried to write something on my own but I can't get the script to activate the Energy Saver pane.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Not normally, as the file which contains it is only writable by root by default; you will need to either provide the script with your password, or change the permissions on the file /Library/Preferences/ SystemConfiguration/com.apple.PowerManagement.plist so that admin accounts can write to it followed by using defaults write(which is harder), or by attempting to control System Preferences with GUI scripting.
Providing the script with the password can be done either by putting the password in the script(easier) or by omitting the password field, which will cause it to ask for the password at runtime(more secure.) For instance:
do shell script "id -un" with administrator privileges
do shell script "id -un" password "" with administrator privileges

  • Is it possible to control BPM/TEMPO via Midi Controller?

Specifically, I would like to use a knob on my midi controller to adjust the BPM of my midi drums quickly while I am playing.
Is there a way to do this?

Don't forget to drag a cable from the tempo fader to the sequencer input.
The number on the tempo fader is the tempo.
The input, channel, and data byte 1 would be used if you want to use something other than the pitchbend to control the fader. These are in the inspector on the left (press the letter "I" to show it if it's not there). You have to select the tempo fader, and open the disclosure triangle in the inspector.
Now you will see a list. About halfway down is 'input' - it probably is set for pitchbd so leave it. Under that is Channel: probably set to 1. if the fader changes values when you move the pitch wheel, you're good. If not, you have 16 to choose from until it works.
Under that is -1-: 1 If you were to change the above "pitchbd" to say, control - this would now allow you to open a list right there and assign a different knob or slider on your controller.
Try it. Change "pitchbd" to "control" and set the -1-: value to 1 (you'll see in the list that 1=modulation). Now your mod wheel controls the tempo fader.

  • IPad HDMI through receiver

This has probably been asked but: in my college class we have a projector that's hdmi to a receiver and then the receiver has hdmi input. I plugged in my ipad and nothing! No sound or video. We ended up connecting it directly to the projector, is there something I did wrong? Or that could be wrong with the setup?

The article mentions a USB connection, not a HDMI connection.
I have a Denon 4311, which is connected to 2 mono amps for my B&W 803D fronts.
SACD is running very smooth on it compaired with the CD layer.
I tested with a pc connected to it and I could clearly hear the difference between 24/96 and the downsampled version of it to 16/44.1 . I could even hear a difference between the downsampled version and the CD I ripped with EAC...
Still the SACD sounds better, more dynamic to me than the 24/96 track (both in analog and digital connection).
Now I'm using foobar to stream my 24/96 through DLNA to my receiver (which is also not bad but I can not control it from my iPod :-)) ).
So for me the iPad would be an ideal solution (if it's working)...

  • My latest MacMini is unable to detect my Samsung monitor via HDMI direct connect.

    Hi
My MacMini (current model ie 1 week old) is unable to detect my Samsung monitor (it is about 6 months old and comes with HDMI port) via HDMI.
However, it is possible if I were to use the HDMI/DVI converter that comes with the MacMini.
FYI, I have tried swapping the HDMI cable but the result is still the same. I prefer to connect the the monitor directly to the MacMini without going thru the HDMI/DVI converter and appreciate any assistance.
    Thank you in advance

Below is the cut and paste of the thread I just posted which explains all.

    Mac80)
Hi Mac80     I have been struggling for the past couple weeks since I purchased my Mac Mini (a few weeks back) to connect to the Samsung B2430 LCD monitor directly via HDMI-HDMI but to no avail i.e. "no connection detected"     Fyi HDMI-DVI works, but I just wanted the HDMI-HDMI instead.     I did exactly what you advised i.e. pull out the HDMI cable from the Mac Mini; power up & power down the Mac Mini; reconnect the HDMI cable to the Mac Mini; power up again... Wooa...lla... for some strange reason & though somewhat "primitive":-)  ... It works. It can now detect my monitor at 1080p. I just shut down and switch it on again to make sure that it is not a fluke, it works!     Fyi I just acquired another Samsung LED 27" monitor SA550 (same problem as above inititially but got it working via the above approach)     Thanks alot Mac80 and really appreciate it!     jJpecke

  • Qosmio X870-F0086 - Highest supported resolution via HDMI?

    hi there
I have one of these, Toshiba Qosmio X870-F0086
    http://www.toshibamea.com/ComputerProduct/4/Qosmio_X870-F0086/52569?pageid=4
I currently run an external monitor connected via HDMI with a resolution of 1920x1200
I would like to know if this Laptop supports higher resolutions via HDMI? 2560x1440 is what I require.
    Please can someone assist.
    Regards,
    T

Good morning everyone (and Paulo ;) )
I have return to inform everyone that the specs stated on the Toshiba website are incorrect.
    Yes, I was right.
I knew I was right from the start, as it simply made no sense to stipulate that 2048x1536 was the max res for analogue, but then to also state that 1920x1080 was the max for HDMI.
I knew that was wrong, as I had a 1920x1200 monitor connected via HDMI.
The bottom line, is that I now have a 2560x1440 monitor connected via HDMI at 60Hz.
    *Works perfectly.*

    http://www.freeimagehosting.net/t/8g566.jpg
My suggestion is that Toshiba update their website, to correctly reflect this scenario.
With the new generation monitors, more and more people will be asking these kinds of questions.
    Cheers! :)

  • Control PXI devices via PyVisa?

Is it possible to control PXI devices via PyVisa in the same way as USB, and GPIB devices?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi k-rhyme,
It should be possible to do. You can definitely control PXI devices using NI-VISA and since PyVISA is just a Python wrapper, it should be possible. It also depends on the version of VISA that PyVISA is using. I would recommend looking at the NI-VISA User Manual for more info PXI specific functions.

  • Control walkman on xperia z2, through smartwear

Hi! I have question. I cant understand why the headset of xperia z2 does not have control buttons. Since that does not happen i would like to ask if there is a possibility to control music on the phone through smartwear (volume up-down, next or previous track). Thank You!

You can control Walkman play/pause/stop/next/previous/volume up/volume down using SmartWatch2 SW2 and older (discontinued) SmartWatch MN2.
Using SWR10 you can control play/stop/pause/next/previous but not volume. It's done by single, double and tripple tap on the band.
    You can also try this:

or SBH52, SBH80 depending of your needs and budget.

  • No sound going direct from AppleTV to TV via HDMI

No sound via HDMI to From Apple TV to TV.
    1) Switched out the HDMI cable between
    2) Blue ray via to tv via HDMI works just fine.
    3) Apple Tv via HDMI to Receiver to TV via HDMI works just fine.
It is just the direct connect that does not work.

I suspect this is a problem with your TV not being able to decode the digital bitstream by which the sound is sent via the HDMI cable. The receiver obviously can (as I would expect).
Not sure how you are connecting both your receiver and the TV to the HDMI output on the Apple TV as there is only one and it is better to send the signal via the receiver anyway as I would imagine that is how your surround sound system operates.

  • No picture through receiver

I have just purchased my first brand new mini mac with the intention of getting rid of my windows pc but I am not having the best of starts.
I am trying to connect via hdmi through my Denon 4308a receiver but get nothing just a black screen but when i plug direct to the tv it works fine.

How old is the Denon?  Your problem could be HDCP
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-bandwidth_Digital_Content_Protection
and the mini knows that the Denon is not HDCP compliant.........or HDCP is causing problems.....
