Possible to downsample only certain albums when transferring to device?

Hey guys,
I have a question regarding the feature iTunes has where you can down sample higher bitrate songs when transferring to your device. Id like to be able to down sample CERTAIN albums when transferring - instead of all of them. Right now I have it set to 256 AAC for transferring to my ipad, but because of the audio equipment that I use, I can tell the difference between the lossless quality and aac and would like to keep certain albums as lossless on my ipad.
Is this even possible?
Thanks!

Thanks for that link!
It doesnt seem like it would be too advanced to do. If I think about it, it should be pretty simple. In fact, it almost looked like you could do it because there is a checkbox that says "only sync checked songs/albums" I thought maybe I could check that and then manually sync others at whatever bitrate it was at... but no.
There could be an "Advanced" section at the bottom in a drop down menu with these options... Ill make a feature request
Thanks

  • Is it possible to encrypt only certain folders on your HD?

When choosing file vault to encrypt your files is it possible to choose only certain portions of your hard drive to encrypt or certain folders? Or do you just need to encrypt the whole thing?

FileVault encrypts only the user's Home folder, nothing else. It cannot be used to selectively choose what to encrypt. If this is your goal, then you can use third-party encryption software - CNet Downloads or MacUpdate - or create a separate encrypted disc image on which you can store the files/folders you want encrypted.

How do I export pictures from my IMac to my iPad.  I have only certain albums I want to export and not all my albums?

You can select only the albums that you want to sync in the photos tab of iTunes when you sync your iPad. If you are using iPhoto it is very easy. Simply select iPhoto in the Sync Photos From heading and then select the albums that you want to sync.
If you are using iTunes 11 - enable the side bar by going to View>Show Sidebar from the iTunes Menu. This explains how to sync photos.

  • Sync only certain albums?

I have burned over 150 CD's, but I do not want them all to sync into my iPod Touch (e.g. Holiday CD's). Is there a way to pick & choose what sync's and what stays put (at least until after Thnaksgiving)?

    Hello there,
Yes. There are several different ways to handle this. One option is to enable the *Sync only checked songs and videos* option from under the iPod's Summary tab. Then make sure each track you wish to sync to your iPod has a tick mark next to it in iTunes.
A less tedious approach is to create a playlist or playlists with all the content you wish to sync to your iPod. Then from under your iPod's Music tab in iTunes, set it up to only sync those select playlists. Or from under the same tab you could configure it to sync only certain genres as well as artists if you so desired.

  • How keep original order of photos in iPhoto album when transferring to Photo Stream?

I want my carefully organized photos in a iPhoto Album to remain in SAME order when sending the album to my iPad from my MacBook Pro via Photo Stream. How can I do this?   Also, does anyone know how to keep the captions below photos when using Photo Stream?

I want my carefully organized photos in a iPhoto Album to remain in SAME order when sending the album to my iPad from my MacBook Pro via Photo Stream. How can I do this?
Are you asking about "My Photo Stream" or a "Shared Photo Stream"?
"My Photo Stream" is only a temporary buffer, not meant for long term storage. You have no control over the order of the photos in the stream. Mostly they will be ordered by the date.
"Shared Photo Streams" will be ordered in the same order as add the photos. SO you can control the sequence by adding the photos one by one.
The captions will not be transferred, only the file names.

  • Is it possible to preserve creation/mod dates when transfering Mac-PC-Mac?

    Hi there
I tried researching the following problem on-line but couldn't find anything helpful so was hoping someone else might know something helpful.
Historically I have always used PCs so until last year I didn't own a Mac, although I use them at work. This means I have a huge amount of files and data stored on external hard drives. I now run Snow Leopard but also run Windows 7 in inside VirtualBox because not all software I own is available for the Mac.
The problem I have is that Snow Leopard and Windows handle file creation and modification dates differently. So if I save a file on my Mac HFS+ disk in Snow Lepoard, Windows cannot read the dates correctly.
I have MacFuse running in Snow Lepoard in order to access my NTFS+ disks but saving files on there still doesn't resolve the issue. Recently I created network drive shares to my NTFS disks in Windows 7 so I could access them. However when I copy files from my Digital Camera on to them, it changes the creation date whilst keeping the modification date unchanged. I use the creation dates to title my MPEG4 AVI videos so I cannot afford the dates to change. If those contained metadata, similar to EXIF data, it wouldn't be such a problem but they don't.
Does anyone know a way of safely transferring files or a program which converts files between Mac and PC. I know of MacDisk but would allow resolve the date issue or simply place files on a HFS+ disk with the windows creation date format. Thus rendering the dates wrong when used in the Mac. I just need a conversion tool between the two. I can't use FAT32 because I also work with digital video from time to time.
    Kind regards
    Infobleep

    So to understand your issue.
You have lots of old drives running with the NTFS file system.
Now that you have a MAC you want to keep using these drives in the same way.
The issue is that the MAC is writing the day you copied the content onto the hard drive in NTFS external drives as the creation date?
    Is this correct?
If so, I believe that you are trying to do a Windows thing in a MAC world....
I am using Parallels and VM ware. I cannot see any problem with VMware and the file creation dates in either MAC or XP. I have created new files in each, crossed over to the other operating system and modified the files. Both files are correctly displaying the content the way they need to be with the correct modified and created dates. The VMware and MAC OS use the mac file system as a base.
I would try to save the digital photos to the external drives while in windows. If you need to use the MAC when doing this I personally would copy off all the old PC files onto my mac and then reformat the external drive as a MAC file system drive. Then copy the files back to the external drive from the MAC. If you are using VMware this drive can be useable by windows as a "shared folder".
If you acknowledge the external USB drive as a USB device in WMware it will of course be in MAC file system format so the new formatted drive will only be viewable in the Computer Management application (WinXP ) And it will not show up as a drive.
To get around this I created a new shared folder in the VMware (Settings -> System Settings -> Sharing) and just simply chose the entire portable drive as a shared folder. Works like a charm. Now WinXP can use the VMware Tools app and properly translate the file content over the the MAC drive. I just created a few files and don't see any issue with the file creation dates.
MAC doesn't use NTFS for its file system and since NTFS is a windows technology, probably cannot? If anything the software that is allowing you to write to the NTFS drive is probably emulating something and that piece of software is at fault. I have an old NTFS drive and don't remember being able to write to it natively from the MAC OS.... In fact my new 1TB drive was purchased to allow me to transfer all my old data off the legacy drive so that I can update it to the new MAC world
Though even more then this... I personally never rely on something so fallible as a computer maintained "created on" or "modified on" concept as these are subjective. As of the new millennium file names have been basically unbound. I would instead append the date and time to my file name as follows.
    201007310300 Some Name of a File.jpg
this way no matter what is done with the file you still have the all important creation date.
An apple script should be able to be created to look at the creation dates on the files as they are stored on the mac and append the date to the file name. (basic shell scripting)
And if this doesn't work for you, perhaps the Linux file system is a better option? I believe that MAC will play nicer with Linux. And I know that there are software drivers to read a linux drive on a PC. Again, though, creation dates can easily change and are no guarantee as to when a file was really created.
So to conclude. All of my external drives are in MAC FS. If I need to copy files to a PC I can use my new 64GB flash drive. (I mean that is a HDD all in to itself!) If you are stuck in NTFS land, save the files via your Windows emulation.

  • Is it possible to hilight a certain button when re-entering a menu

I currenty have two menus set up. The Main Menu consists of 5 buttons: "Play", "Chapters", "Slide Show", "Previews", "Contact".
When I select "Chapters" I jump to the Chapters menu, but "Chapter 2" is highlighted?
Is there a way to 'save' the highlighted button of the Main Menu and then 'restore' it when returning to that menu?

It sounds to me as if 'Chapter 2' was the first button you created - this normally becomes the default button for a menu. If you look in the property inspector for the menu you will see an option to set the default button - set it to what you want highlighted when the menu plays.
If you use a particular button on a menu to get back to the previous menu it can be set to go to a particular button. If you point the 'back to main' button on your Chapters menu to go to the button that takes the viewer to the chapters menu in the first place, this is almost certainly going to have been the last button they were on when they left the main menu to go to the chapters.
sounds a bit confusing, but in essence, on your main menu there is only one button that takes the viewer to the chapters. If you are in the chapters and have a button to return to the main menu, and want to go to the last button highlighted, then it will almost certainly have been only one button.
Now, if you are thinking that you want to return to a particular button on a menu after playing a clip then you will need to script this. Fortunately, it is very easy.
There are two ways to get to the menu when a clip plays - from the end jump and from a menu call on the remote control handset. If you only ever want to get back to one menu and a button then the script is this:
    mov GPRM0, SPRM8
    div GPRM0, 1024
    Jump Menu [GPRM0]
The first two lines get the button highlight number and reduce it to an integer that relates to the button number in a menu. The third line takes you back to the menu and has a GPRM based button jump - you'll land on the button whose value is in GPRM0.
If you have two or more menus accessing the same track, and you need to get back to the right menu and button then you need to do a bit more jiggery pokery. First off, you need to write some scripts to identify the menu you are on. You can do this in two ways, but I recommend only using the following:
Create a script and set it as the start up item for your disc. In the script write the following:
    mov GPRM1, 1
    Jump menu1
This should point to your main menu (I've called it menu 1, but it must have the same name as in your project).
Now create a new script and write in that one:
    mov GPRM1, 2
    Jump Menu2
Whatever button on your main menu points to your menu 2 you now point to this second script instead. For every button on any menu that goes to another menu, point it to a script which sets the value in GPRM1 appropriately. For example, if you have a button on menu3 which points to your main menu, point it to the first script instead.
Now you have 'identified' each menu, the end jump script and menu call (written out above) has to be slightly changed:
    mov GPRM0, SPRM8
    div GPRM0, 1024
    Jump Menu1 [GPRM0] If(GPRM1 = 1)
    Jump Menu2 [GPRM0] If(GPRM1 = 2)
    Jump Menu3 [GPRM0] If(GPRM1 = 3)
and so on. The jump lines are saying "Jump to the menu (and the button last highlighted) IF you were last on that menu.
So... it all comes down to two things.
    1) are you moving between menus (in which case you don't need to script it)
    2) are you moving between menus and a track (in which case scripting is a way forward)
Lastly, if the thought of scripting fills your very being with dread (and there are those for which it does) then look into creating a story or two and pointing your different menus to different stories instead!

  • Is it possible to "redshift" only certain windows?

I was curious if it is possible to, for example, only apply a redshift to Chromium windows, leaving panels and terminals undisturbed as they will already be darkly and precisely colored. Is this functionality already available through some means, or does it require new software?
(Unforfunately all the usual searched didn't yield anything along these lines)

Well, you can run Chromium in a separate X server…

  • My new iPad2 synched OK on initial setup but I didn't really want all the photos in iPhoto transferred so on  later synch I tried limiting the sych to certain albums only to find that only a fraction of the albums now on the iPad. I tried synching again.

My new iPad2 set up OK with all the photos in my iPhoto transferring . On a later synch I tried limiting the transfer to only certain albums. After that I find only a fraction of the desired albums transferred. I tried synching again without any restrictions but get the same limited number of photos and albums. I think I've seen the solution to this fault somewhere - something to do with deleting the iPhoto cache but can't find it.

Update: I was unsuccessful on my attempt to delete the iPhoto Cache folder because I didn't follow the directions exactly. There seems to be more than one folder with an identical name. Finally succeeded in getting all my photos back on the iPad2.
If one desires to change the selection of photos snc'd, however, it apears that you must change the selecion from the iTunes screen while the iPad is plugged in and the select "Apply". Unfortunate, the sync starts immediately when you plug the iPad in and it doesn't seem to smart to stop the sync. It appears you have to make a change in iTunes while syncing. Let it complete. Detach the iPad. Go back and delete the iPhoto cache ad directed. Then the next time you sync presumably the new sync restrictions will apply. I didn't want to risk stopping the sync that started automatically to change the sync options and then direct it to sync again but that might work. Too bad we don't have more control over the starting of syn when the iPad is attached. Maybe we actually do but I haven't noticed it.

  • Music - Can viewing via Cover Flow be only certain categories?

When, in iTunes/Music, I reposition the iPod Touch to landscape and the viewing changes to cover flow, it seems always to return to my entire music library and shows which album is playing or paused at that moment, not where I was searching in, for example, a category>classical>composer>Mozart. Is it possible to view only certain parts of my library in cover flow view, or does it always revert to one's entire library? And, in what order is it presenting my library - alphabetically, by what, composer, song, artist, etc.? Thanks.

Coverflow always displays the entire library on the iPod (I wish it could be limited to the playlist being used). The sort order appears to be:
    1- Album Artist (if populated)
    2- Artist
    3- Album

  • Color only certain text in TextArea

Hello, I'm making an applet and I'm writing my output to a TextArea. I was wondering if it is possible to color only certain text. I.E. have some text in black and some in red.
I know you can color all text using foreground, but wasn't too sure if you could color certain text.
Any helps appreciated. Thank you in advance.

  • Share only certain properties across pages

Is it possible to share only certain properties of an object across other pages?
For example, I have a text heading on each my pages. It's in the same place and same color on every page. The actual text differs though on every page (e.g. one page says Home, another says About, etc.). Is it possible to share it the color and location across other pages, but not the actual text value?

You can "cheat" this by converting one of the text objects to a button symbol. Button symbols allow for different text labels for each instance. I do this all the time. Use this symbol on all your pages, and update the label in the Properties panel.
One trick though, make sure you ad an identical Over state to the button symbol, otherwise if you preview or export an HTML prototype, the text will disappear if you mouse over it.

  • Lately when I sync certain albums to my iPhone, the tracks are duplicated one behind the other so that I have to listen to each song twice. Why does this happen and how can it be fixed?

Lately when I sync certain albums to my iPhone, the tracks are duplicated one behind the other so that I have to listen to each song twice. Why does this happen and how can it be fixed?

Very strange behavior.  Don't entirely give up on the "Manually Added Items" category ... I have seen things magically appear there even after I've checked and seen nothing there.  I think things got real quirky when Apple released iCloud ... I don't remember extra copies of purchases lingering on my iPhone once transferred to my library before that.  Sure, if I bought an album directly to my iPhone it would stay on there even after I sync to my library, but if I deleted the album from the iPhone it stayed deleted.  Now it seems that there are some phantom copies that come and go with no explanation.
    jcburbank wrote:
I've tried deleting the album from both the phone and from iTunes and then redownloading them to both and the same problem occurs.
If you're re-downloading an album to iTunes and your iPhone, that may perpetuate the problem.  What happens if you completely delete every copy of the album, then just download to your iTunes library and then sync the album to your iPhone from your library?  That should put only one copy on your iPhone.
A few other things to try:
1- Completely sign out of your Apple account on your iPhone, then re-sync to iTunes, then sign into your account on your iPhone again.  Maybe throw in a Reset or at least a power OFF/ON somewhere in the middle.
2- Go to Settings/ General/ Usage, then select Music and when you see All Music, swipe your finger across it and tap the Delete button.  Before doing anything else, Reset your iPhone.  This does not actually delete your music, but seems to clear up some cobwebs left behind (people use this technique to reduce "Other" that swells up over time).

When I sync my I tune music library to my other devices, none of the other devices end up with the same amount of music.  For instance, in my itunes library on my mac, i have 34 complete albums.  When I sync to my iphone only 26 albums come over (it is not a memory issue, i have 25 gb of free space on my iphone), on my touch, again syncing with changing anysetting, i only getr 26 albums, but not the same 26 albums that i get with my iphone, again no memory issue. When I sync my ipad mini, my clapton collection tells me I have 48 albums with 340 songs, agin on my mac I only have 34 albums with 421 songs, agan, no setting changed between syncs. on My Ipad tablet, my clapton library shows 340 songs with 57 albums.  By the way if I go into my clapton library and count manually how many albums are on my ipad there are only 25.
Tech suppoert has been worthless, they keep haveing me do the same thing over and over again, expecting a different result.  Pure insanityl
Does anyone have similar issues or have a clue as to what is going on or where to get competent help in resolving these issuse.

Are all these songs associated with the same Apple ID or were some purchased on another account?
Are they tagged properly? In the library does it break an album out into several different albums with a few tracks each?
Check your sync settings for each device. Do you accidentally have only certain songs/albums syncing?
