Possible to export keywords for images in a catalog?

I have a fairly large catalog with scanned images (several thousands of images). The images have a number of keywords each and many have descriptions and titles. From this, I would like to create some sort of web site where this information is preserved. The web that I'm envisioning should list all the keywords that occurs in the catalog, and if you click on a keyword it should show all images tagged with the keyword.
However, with Lightroom 1.2 it doesn't seem to be possible to have the keywords included in the web gallery. Or am I wrong? Is it possible somehow?
My next way of attacking this problem was to use the xmp sidecar files. Since the keywords are stored in the sidecar xmp file, I thought that I would be able to retrieve the keywords from the xmp-file with the help of some scripts and XSLT. Yes, a little extra work involved of course, but still doable. Unfortunately, since I've got TIFF files and not RAW files, the xmp data is embedded in the TIFF file and not written in the sidecar xmp file. Is it possible to have the xmp data written to the sidecar file also for TIFF images?
Yes, it should be possible to extract the xmp data from the TIFF files, merge all this data into a big xml file and then process that with an XSLT script, but I would rather avoid poking inside the TIFF file, if at all possible.
If I can just get some sort of mapping between all images and the keywords, preferably in an xml format (html or plain text would also do) I should be able to build the web myself.
Any advice on how I can achieve this?

yes it is possible to do this, but it is a bit complicated. Under the share menu choose export media. In the dialog that appears you can choose audio only. There are options for AAC, AIFF etc. The problem is that it will export all of the audio from your project so if you want only audio from a particular clip to be exported you need to create a new project and then copy/paste the clip into the new project. You can then export that audio as described above. An alternative is to create a new empty compound clip in the browser and open it in a timeline and copy/paste your clip into it. You can then export audio only as above. Once you have edited the audio, import it into FCPX and add as attached clip to the original clip. You can either drag the volume of the original audio down so it is not audible or detach the original audio and delete it. Not as simple as in previous versions of FCP but do-able.

Enter the required dimension in; Inspector >  document slide size.
1024 x 768 is HD-TV pixel dimension, but there are other graphics sizes you can set for higher resolution.
Note that you need to set up the slide size first before you add objects on the slide, otherwise they will be distorted when the size is changed.

  • Exporting keywords with image files

Using LR1.2 under Windows XP I now do most of my initial processing of scans and digital imports in LR before exporting the selected images for final batch processing and refined tuning in PS CS2. However, having completed copious key wording in LR, my exported files when viewed in Bridge do not contain my keywords. I have searched and found that it is possible to export metadata but that does not naturally link them with the appropriate pictures. Short of cutting and pasting chunks of keywords from LR, how can I arrange Bridge to incorporate keywords which were integral with the images exported from LR?
Thanks in advance to wiser heads than mine.
    DA

    >I do not have a 'cache' purge' option
I was talking about Bridge. Bridge's cache might be bad. The save metadata part in LR 1.3 is in the exact same location as in 1.2. I have never seen keywords not get written starting from LR 1.0. I know because I put lots of my images in online galleries and they always pick up my keywords.
    >As I suffered catalogue problems with my last LR upgrade
Perhaps this is the problem. You should try with a new fresh catalog, import a few images, tag em and export them and see if you get metadata written that way. Perhaps your main catalog is still corrupt.

  • Support for export keyword for templates in sunCC ?

    Hello
    Currently sunCC says
"OutputTemplate.hh", line 16: Warning: Export ignored -- not yet implemented.if I try to use export to export my templates.
Is sunCC going to support export keyword, like Comeau and Intel compilers ?
When will export be implemented ?
    Thank you,
    Timothy Madden

Then why the warning message 'not yet implemented' ? It so makes me think that in the next update there I will find it !
And it so makes my appetite for it grow ! :)
I am very sad to hear such a point of view especially as an official attitude.
I mean this reason, that there is only one implementation and the other compiler implementers did not implement it, so Sun will also not implement it, is quite ... hard to expect.
After all, all new C++ features were also not implemented by compiler implementers when they appeared, until they implemented them ...
I do not think many programmers so confuse export ed templates with extern declarations. Most programmers actually know what templates are and how they are instantiated on demand. Beside, the fact that the template definition needs not be seen by the compiler at the point of instantiation is quite true, as this is the point of using export :). The definition will just be found in one of the object files, at some point before linking.
What the "definitions-separate" default compilation model does is effectively including the template definition in every .cc file, just like I would have included it in .hh file in the first place. This is what export is to prevent: it does not include nor need the template definition until some point before linking, at which all translation units have been translated (compiled) and the template definition can be found.
It is true that in a way template instantiations use symbols from both the definition point, and the instantiation point, but this is intentional and the programmers should all well know about it. The C++ language also has quite some others such hidden effects after all ...
Merging the contexts, or instantiating the templates, should actually have nothing to do with the actual linker or the link-time, if export is to be implemented for real.
Rather the instantiation should be a separate step in the build process, after compiling and before linking, effected by a compiler-provided tool created specifically for compiling template definitions (from object files) into instances; or such a tool could be the compiler put in some special post-compile instantiaton mode. The tool would indeed be given all the object files in a program, and would resolve references between them for instantiation requests, as a linker does, so it might look like it is linking; however it only does template instantiation and it includes actual compiler functionality for that, so it is closely related to the compiler.
So instead of a compile-and-link build model application developers would have a compile-instantiate-and-link build model.
I just hope for more people to see how export is, and not rejecting it ...
    Thank you,

  • Is it possible to use airplay for image and sound via bluetooth speaker for sound?

I want to play my presentations using airplay, and it works perfectly, but i tried to use my bluetooth speakers at the same time and it doesn't seems possible! Each time i choose the bt speaker on system preferences it disconnects the airplay. Any suggestion?

Hello, you'd need another Router, or at least a different range of IPs on the Router for Wired & Wifi, or at the very least specifically mount Windows® shares by IP.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.

  • Exporting Keyword sets

Is it possible to export Keyword sets from one computer and import them in Lightroom on another?

    Jens,
If I understand you correctly, you're looking for a transfer of the keword sets, and not the keywords present in the list.
The keyword sets are stored in the LR presets folder (on Windows this is "%appdata%\Adobe\Lightroom\Keyword Sets". You can copy them from one computer into the same folder on another computer.
An alternative would be to choose "Store Presets with Catalog", but this has further implications (see here).

  • Aperture, Photoshop, and Apple's possible direction for Image Editing

    All,
After using Aperture now for several days, and reading many different forum topics, in particular this one which speaks of desired enhancements to Aperture:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=253594&tstart=0
there is one thing that really sticks out on my mind. While all of us photographers have slightly different specifics to our workflow, in general they are very similar. And with respect to Aperture, there is one huge area where most of us seem to be hitting the brick wall: image adjustments, and by extension, image file management. Let me explain what I mean.
I think it is a fair generalization to say that the vast majority of serious digital photographers are using Photoshop (or some other image editing app, but I'm just going to refer to Photoshop for convenience) for post-processing of some kind. In using Aperture, and figuring out how to fit it into workflow, we've got this situation of how to move from organization and image library management to the full gamut of image adjusting functionality (photoshop) and back again to library management. The need to use photoshop then exposes the issue of how files are stored on the filesystem, etc. Stay with me here...
I have found myself thinking, and it is pretty clearly demonstrated in the forum topic mentioned above where folks are making suggestions for improvements to Aperture, that there's this barrel people are over in knowing whether Photoshop and Aperture should live in the workflow together, or whether Aperture should (or is intended to) replace Photoshop in the workflow. This got me to thinking about the fundamental question -- what is the intent, i.e. the vision for Aperture? Is it meant to replace Photoshop, or restated, is Aperture meant to be the app in which all image adjustments are to be made, OR is Aperture meant to just ease workflow, and is it intended not to be the primary app for image adjustments, but rather integrate with the primary image adjustment app?
The reason I bring this up is that the answer to this question makes all the difference in what enhancement requests and what people should expect from Aperture now, and in future versions. If Aperture is the primary place for image adjustment, then its obvious that there are some very significant additions that need to take place to Aperture, and likewise, the issue of putting images on the filesystem becomes much less important. However, if Aperture is a workflow-easer, then such image adjustment improvements are minimally important if at all, and filesystem / Photoshop / PSD file integration becomes paramount.
I know what Aperture does, what features it provides, etc. But I can't help but realize that its not really that clear (or I just don't understand yet) what the full scope of Aperture now and in the future is intended to be, and the forum topics are pretty decent documentation of the fact that the user base at this point is fairly cloudy on that too.
I can't help thinking that in the midst of the Apple pro line of tools, where we have tools that edit: video, audio, DVD creation, text effects, and now digital photography workflow, that there's one glaring hole: static image editing, i.e. a direct Photoshop competitor. I went through the Aperture video demos before Aperture shipped, and watched these photo pros talk incessantly about how "now there's an app that addresses how I work -- Aperture". That's great, but Apple has to know the role that Photoshop plays in present photography workflow -- for those pros too. So I'm sitting here thinking to myself, why would Apple roll out such a product with some clear workflow hurdles to common Photoshop usage.
Ok, here's the punchline: does anyone else here have a sneaking suspicion that Apple is not to far off from releasing their own image editing application that's a direct Photoshop competitor? I mean come on, Final Cut Pro, Motion, Sountrack, and by extension of the CEO to Pixar, Renderman. How can you not have a static image adjustment application entering the scene at some point?
I'm curious what others think. I'm just trying to make sense of how to fit the neat stuff I see in Aperture into a workflow that doesn't play very nicely with Aperture at some points (because I'm using Photoshop).

    So Apple adds curves adjustments,
we'll need noise reduction, greater sharpening
capability, etc., etc., and then when we have all
those features, surely we'll need masking and select
capability to perform those adjustments selectively,
    etc. Where does it end?
Actually that could be a good cut-off point - add a few more/better 'global' adjustments but leave all mask, selection and layer based tasks to external editors. Personally, I used to swear by curves, but haven't really touched them in PS for a year since shooting more RAW and learning how to use the shadow/highlight adjustment properly. Sometimes for overall colour for JPEGs, but that bit can be done just as well in levels.
My workflow isn't particularly typical, but here goes.
Type of photography - stitched panoramas as a professional, plus general snapshots/nature/landscape as hobby. Single user with no network storage.
Currently I use a very organised folder structure in the Finder, along with aliases in DragThing docks for easy access to final stitched files, all with their own unique ID. RAW conversions are done in ACR/PSCS2, or Bibble if I'm in a hurry on the laptop. About 40% of the panos are shot in RAW, 40% are bracketed JPEG and the remaining 20% are 'single' JPEG. The panoramas go through quite a lot of post-processing in PS using a whole series of actions and AppleScripts.
I'm expecting my workflow to look something like this:
    1) Download directly into Aperture, possibly with added help from Automator/Applescript when it comes to proper date-based names.
    2) Divide download into a new album for each panorama.
2a) If it is a people pano there will be quite a lot of duplicate shots for each panohead position - make a stack for each position and choose picks - this bit will speed things up enormously by itself. Reorder stacks to fit correct order of images going around the scene.
    3) Export to TIFF (sometimes JPEG) and stitch using PTMac (sometimes Realviz Stitcher). Oh, and any people who think Aperture is limited, buggy and bad value should go and look at Stitcher - it costs the same, has a far more limited feature set, is on version 5 and by comparison makes Aperture look bug-free.
    4) Bring stitched panorama into Photoshop to adjust seams through layers if needed, flatten, final tone adjustments (usually using shadow/highlight), possibly some colour tweaks, sharpen. For bracketed shots I will blend together the three exposures at this point using a custom action - this kind of thing is unlikely ever to make it to Aperture.
    5) Bring final print-ready file into Aperture for cataloguing/backup.
5a) If file is too big for Aperture, make a smaller version for cataloguing and store original file in Finder. This gives me a good file for 90% of purposes, with the huge file available with a bit more work.
Too big? I've found that Aperture gets sluggish with files over 18-20,000 pixels wide, and chokes totally somewhere between 25,000 and 32,000 pixels wide - 'image format unsupported'.
To summarise - organise and convert in Aperture, stitch in specialist software, do PS-specific stuff then bring final image back in to join the source images.

  • Search for images using Keywords Problem.

  • Searching for images with have just a single keyword

I have several thousand images, some of these images have one keyword (eg: fruit), others have multiple keywords (eg: apple, fruit)
How can I display images that have only one keyword - I know I can exclude other keywords, but I don't want to exclude all the other possible keywords for my images (Because there's load of them!)
    Thanks....

Not quite clear what you want to find. Don't think there is a way to search for a file with "one keyword" as criteria. Will have to play with options in Match box and 2nd box in Criteria to come up with a solution. May have to list each one word keyword and search with "contains".
Bridge search can be difficult at times, for instance if folder has not been indexed by Bridge lately it may not show file. As an alternate, if you have Vista, the Advanced Search of Find works quite well (shortcut - windows button and F). Were it says "tag" enter keyword. Use semicolon to separate multiple keywords. Works best if you have folder in one of Indexed Locations.

  • LR2: non-official SQLite fix for non-exporting keywords

    Hello
This is not the official Adobe fix.
I've been looking into this and it's relatively trivial to update the catalog using SQLite tools to update a catalog so that keywords are exported again.
Please note that you do this at your own risk.
    -- Start --
    1. Obtain an SQLite tool - I use SQLiteSpy, there are others for both Windows and Mac - search this forum for examples.
    2. Close Lightroom if it is running.
    3. Backup your .lrcat file
    4. Start your SQLite tool, and open your .lrcat file.
    5. Execute this query:
    update aglibrarykeyword
    set includeOnExport = 1, includeParents = 1, includeSynonyms = 1
    where parent is not null
    6. Close your SQLite tool
    -- End --
This will set all three options on your keywords, and should make any keyworded image export with the keywords. However, this fix sets all three options on all your keywords, it doesn't match the options you had in LR 1.4.1. If you're not confident with running these steps, I suggest you wait for an official fix.
    Zak

I've been experimenting with this, taking advantage of what Zak already described.
But Im finding that some of the keywords *are* written out. And by using SQLiteSpy to looking into my 1.X and 2.0 catalogs its pretty easy to see where they botched up the conversion.
I think the problem is something like this...
For each keyword, if you have never fiddled with the Keyword Tag Options for a keyword then the 1.X catalog has the corresponding values in the set to NULL (the three properties are actually stored as a string containing Lua code to create a table with these three values). If you fiddle with any of them then they get set (all of them). The 2.0 conversion process seems to do the right thing when converting non-NULL values. Its when the 1X database has a NULL that they screw up, putting a false in the 2X database, when they probably should have inserted true instead.
Ive now got a swag at fixing this, but I cheated. I run an UPDATE statement on the 1.X catalogit will supply true values for all three settings on keywords that currently have no value. You then need to run LR 2 to convert the catalog to the new format, and things seem to work ok.
Heres the query. Remember this is to be run on the 1.X catalog. Specifically, I was using Lr 1.4.1, and havent tried with earlier versions. And all normal warnings about making backups, not trusting code you find on forums, etc, apply.
    update AgLibraryTag set flattenedParams = "params = { includeOnExport = true, includeParents = true, includeSynonyms = true, }" where flattenedParams is NULL;

Because of the difference between the Camera raw version available to her in Photoshop CS5 and the raw process in Lightroom 4, she has been exporting her raw images from Lightroom and choosing the "Render using Lightroom option when it popped up in the dialogue box. She has been doing this for over a year and a half without any problem. Today when she hit Command E no dialogue box appeared and the image just opened in Photoshop. I'm concerned that all of her Lightroom edits are not being rendered to Photoshop. Anyone have an idea as to how we can get the "Render using Lightroom" dialogue back?

You're welcome, and thank you for the reply.
    2) Yesterday I made the subclips with the In-Out Points and Command-U, the benefit is that I've seen the clip before naming it. Now I'm using markers, it's benefit is that I can write comment and (the later) clip name at once, the drawback is that I have to view to the next shot's beginning before knowing what the shot contains.
But now I found out that I can reconnect my clips independently to the format I converted the master clip to. I reconnected the media to the original AVI file and it worked, too! The more I work with, the more I'm sold on it... - although it doesn't seem to be able to read and use the date information within the DV AVI.
    1) Ok, I tried something similar within FCE. Just worked, but the file size still remains. Which codec settings should I use? Is the export to DV in MOV with a quality of 75% acceptable for both file size and quality? Or would be encoding as H.264 with best quality an option for archiving, knowing that I have to convert it back to DV if I (maybe) wan't to use it for editing later? Or anything else?
    Thank's in advance again,
