Possible to gut a Mac G5 and use it as a pc?

Hi everyone, I know people ask these types of questions all the time, but I am wondering if it would be possible to gut my G5 and use its hdd, ram, etc. and house a new mobo/cpu in the G5's case? With black friday coming I was thinking about building a PC when I realized I have an old G5 that has a great case and ram-- so, if I could just keep the case and ram and hdd, it would save me a ton of money. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

The RAM would depend on which Mobo you get, but the Drive should work.

I can't find that model. If you open System Profiler in the Utilities folder look for the Model Identifier over in the right hand display. What do you find for the model ID? If your computer supports Internet Recovery here's what to do:
Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer. If Mavericks is not installed, then you can reinstall it by re-downloading the Mavericks installer.
You will need to use Boot Camp Assistant in order to create a new Windows partition, then reinstall Windows.

Can I turn off the monitor for Mac Mini and use it as a music server?

I am in the process of upgrading my PC most likely to a Mac product. With the non-server version of Mac OS X, can I turn off the monitor connected to a Mac Mini and use it as a streaming server? Or I have to get the server version of OS X to do that?

I plan to run Logitech Media Server on the Mac to stream music to players. Each player interacts with the Logitech Media Server to select songs to stream. When I turn on a player, it will wake up the computer from the sleep mode.
Currently, this Logitech Media Server runs on a Windows Vista machine and it will keep the PC from entering sleep mode while playing the songs. After I play the last song, the PC will start the idle count down and then enter into sleep mode.

No.
Serial numbers are Mac only or Windows only. There is a platform swap process (from Mac to PC etc) but only for CS6.
As a CS5 owner, your choices are to either pay to upgrade to CS6 for Mac or join the Cloud.

Gutting a iMac G4 and using Parts in Desktop G3

I am currently working on a iMac G4 with a bad Logic board(Motherboard), so I am currently gutting it to upgrade a Desktop G3. I've already added the Hard disk and the Ram, I tried switching the dvd-r(the G3 only has a dvd/cd-rw), but the G3 will not recognize the drive, I am assuming the drive is bad as well, but I didn't know if there was something i need to do to the G3 to make it work?
Also wanted to know if it was possible to switch the processors? the G3 is only a 400 Mhz and the iMac G4 is a 800Mhz. I rarely work with apples so i'm not sure if the sockets are the same, and not even sure if they are compatible.
I also realize that this next question is a not really possible, but I have to ask just to make sure. Is there any way to take the LCD screen of the iMac and use it as a second monitor. I realize i would propable need the logic board to do this but want to know if anyone knows of any mods.
Is there anything else that I would be able to gut out of the iMac and use for the G4?

Personally I would get a new board for the G4 than scrap it. If no 3rd party source for a board is found then OK scrap it. Back to G3 box.
1. Check the jumper. There are 3 states; master, slave, cable select. Compare to drive you took out. If it is different change it. If it is the same? Don't know new to me.
2. My 15" flat panel is driven by gforce2 MX. Since I don't have your G3 I'll do a thought experiment.
Put a gforce card in a jig for easy soldering.
HALT - experiment over because it requires blowing the next 4 hrs studying and google'ing.

No one from Apple can help you at all. Only the Carrier can unlock your device. You will have to contact Softbank directly.

Connecting two Mac minis and using one monitor

I am thinking about getting two Mac minis to run concurrently, accessing both on the same Thunderbolt Display (also to be acquired) using screen sharing and connecting the two Macs via firewire (or thunderbolt).
I have certain programs I need to run in Windows (Bloomberg terminal and MS Excel in Windows version) but don't want to run them in parallel on one computer as (in my experience) the performance is very slow.
By running two computers at the same time, I'm hoping that can avoid the entire system griding to a halt. I also think it will allow me to upgrade more cheaply as the Mac mini is improved over time.
Is this a completely daft idea? Would I be better off with a new iMac or a refurbish Mac Pro?

"File sharing preferences" is indeed how to do it. Connect both minis to your router (one by ethernet cable, one by wifi, it doesn't matter.)
Then turn on "File Sharing" in Sharing Prefs on both minis. Also, give them both meaningful, different names under "Computer Name".
Then, when you open a finder window on one mini, the other one should appear under "Shared", like this:

Ripping DVD's is not something that can be discussed here due to the legal rammifications.
If the Mac support AirPlay mirroring, simply play the DVD on the Mac and then use AirPlay to mirror the content to the ATV.
Honestly, a DVD player connected to the tv would be a simpler solution.

Can I sync it with the Mac (iTunes) and use it as a storage device on Win?

I have my iPod nano set to sync with my Mac where I have iTunes installed. In the Mac I also set (via iTunes) the iPod to behave as a mass storage device.
My question is: can I use my iPod to sync music at my home Mac and while at my job connect it to my Winows PC (without iTunes) to use it just as a USB storage device?
I once tryed to use the nano as a storage device at Windows (without iTunes) and something went wrong. In the end I had to reset nano and reinstall the iPod soft.

Probably the easiest way to use an iPod on both Mac and Windows computers is to format the iPod (using iPod Updater) using the PC. This will force your iPod to use the Windows file system (FAT32) which both the Mac and PC can read from and write to without the help of additional software. Of course then all your software updates for the iPod will have to be done on Windows.  If you need to use a Mac (HFS+) formatted iPod on a Windows PC, you'll need to install some 3rd party software such as XPlay 2.0 (which you can get from MediaFour Software). This will enable your Windows PC to read a Mac-formatted iPod.

The iPad would be backed up to the Mac when you connect it to iTunes on that Mac and do a sync and backup.
When iOS 5 comes out for the iPad tomorrow, you will also be able to a more limited backup to the iCloud service Apple are providing free of charge which also launches tomorrow.
Note: The iCloud backup is not as full a backup as doing a full sync and backup via iTunes.

If you're just visiting the UK, then you probably cannot open an iTunes Store account there, even if you purchase an iTunes prepaid card, since opening an account requires a valid mailing address there. If you have such an address, you could open an account, but you could not use that account once you return to Kenya since the terms of the iTunes Stores all (at the demand of the content owners) prohibit use from outside of the relevant country, so you'd have to use up the credit from the card before you leave the UK.
Until such time as Apple is able to obtain the rights to sell music and movies in Kenya, you'll need to look to other sources for such content, at least on an ongoing basis.

Is it possible to network a AIO Printer and use the Scanner and Fax on all computers.

I have a small network on a Peer to Peer. I have a non network printer. HP Deskjet 3050. Currently the printer and applications for Fax and Scan are installed onto two workstations. One computer has the printer directly connected via the USB. This system is sharing the printer on the network as a host.
The other computers are printing from the share without error but I cannot scan or fax with the "client" workstations. I receive an error indicating the printer is not connected. My question is: Is there any possible way to share the Fax/scan feature throughout the entire network?
I thought of purchasing a Network "Print-Server" but have heard they don't work and I need to buy a "Network Printer".
Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think there is such thing as scan sharing in Windows.
Why not just buy a wireless printer? I'd recommend that way more than a wireless print server (which don't support scanning, only printing - as far as I know).

You will have to legally unlock your iPhone with the carrier you are currently on. Then you will have to buy a SIM card from a carrier in Germany to use the 3G/4G network available.
