Possible to Have the DVD Drive: SHW-160H6S OEM Original Firmware (FW Version: CP81)

Hello,
I have a Compaq Presario SR1850NX desktop computer. It's about 8 years old now but what I want to talk about today is specifically about the DVD Burner that comes included with the desktop.
The model is a Liteon SHW-160H6S OEM drive packaged with the CP81 firmware (OEM firmware, not retail firmware).
A few years ago, I decided to flash the firmware for the sake of updating using the provided firmware available on the HP site which was version CP91. After the seemingly successful flash, my dvd burner would never work properly again. The DVD burner will still turn on and can still open and close the disc tray but won't detect or read the DVD/CDs but is properly detected by the BIOS and by Windows.
I have looked online by myself to figure out how to unbrick my drive after the failed firmware upgrade but with no luck. Now I ask any of you if you may possibly have this working dvd drive which may be like finding a needle in a haystack but still worth asking so I can receive a copy of your working or original firmware. I tried to flash it after the unsucessful flash but it seems like it has no effect.
Retail firmwares won't work since this drive won't accept it. Also...
@HP Customer Service
If you have the original firmware possibly somewhere in your archivces but I won't bet on it, it would be great if you could provide me access to it so I can try to revive my dead DVD drive. Many thanks and I just hope I can get this drive working again someday!

  • Is it Possible to change the DVD drive to Bluray for HP Pavilion dv6-6176sx

    Hi All,
Is it Possible to change the DVD drive to Bluray for HP Pavilion dv6-6176sx Entertainment Notebook PC?
    Thanks

Sure it is not even very difficult. Do you just need a BR reader or a burner/reader? The replacement disk drive will be $80-120 or so, maybe a bit less. You can find them on eBay. You can use a generic one but that may require some reworking of the faceplate or just get an original dv6-6000 BR drive on eBay. Swaps out with a couple screws on the bottom; slide out and slide in the replacement. You will need new software to play BR movies, of course.

  • Is it possible to take the dvd drive out of a 21.5" iMac (Mid 2011) and replace it with an SSD?

I just don't want to go through all of the mess of taking of the logic board, so I thought of this, it's the first thing you see after taking off the screen from the iMac.
Is it easy to do? (I am intermediate at hardware installations)
    Thanks,
    Arayeb.

    Thank you,
    sorry if im getting annoying,
but as you can see here:
    Intel 6 Series Chipset:
      Vendor: Intel
      Product: 6 Series Chipset
      Link Speed: 3 Gigabit
      Negotiated Link Speed: 1.5 Gigabit
      Physical Interconnect: SATA
      Description: AHCI Version 1.30 Supported

      Revision: 4AH5
      Native Command Queuing: No
      Detachable Drive: No

      Async Notification: No
Under Negotiated link speed is says 1.5 gigabit.
Does that mean the ODD is 1.5 gigabit?
Or will I have a 1.5 gigabit speed connection from the ssd?
    I hope not,
    Thanks.

  • Is it possible to have two USB drives for the IPad?  I want to bring RAW photo files from my camera, through the IPad and back to an external hard drive.  One of my cameras does not use an SD card.  How can I do this?

Is it possible to have two USB drives for the IPad?  I want to bring RAW files from my camera through the IPad and out to an external hard drive.  One of my cameras has an SD card but the other one doesn't have a card that would fit in any of the camera devices I've seen on line.  Realted to this, I bought the IPad camera accessory.  Can I put the SD card in the device and also hook the external hard drive to the USB port of the accessory and download from the camera to the hard drive?  Can I put Lightroom or the Nikon photo editing software on the IPad?  Right now I carry a PC laptop and external hard drives with me on wildernes trips.  Internet and WiFi are not available.  Because I shoot so many photos and they're in RAW I need to download from the camera to the external drive because I run out of memory on the PC (and it has much more memory than the IPad).  I have Nikon NX software and lightroom on my PC.  I'd love to be able to reduce the weight I carry by using the IPad to edit my photos each night while on trips.  Is this possible and how would I do it?  I'd appreciate any guidance.

No, the camera connection kit only supports the copying of photos and videos to the Photos app, it doesn't support copying content off the iPad. For your second camera instead of the SD reader part of the kit, does the iPad to camera cable not work with it for direct transfer to the iPad ?
For Lightroom and Nikon software again no - you can only install apps that are available in the iTunes app store on your computer and the App Store app on the iPad, 'normal' PC and Mac (OS X) software are not compatible with the iPad (iOS). There are some apps that perform fairly basic editing functions that are available in the store, but nothing as sophisticated as, for example, Lightroom.

    Okay, let's check the following:
    >> Do you see the DVD drive listed in "Computer" explorer? double click on it to open.
    >> Do you see the DVD drive listed in the device manager??
(Click Start and type "device" in the search field, then select Device Manager >> check for CD/DVD drive listing.)
    >> Is the DVD drive listed in the BIOS?
(Restart Your PC and start tapping F10 key, once you are in setup screen go to boot options, check for the listed devices)
also please download and run this program:

  • HT1539 I have the new imac and it does not have a dvd drive. How can I download digital copy of a movie?

Some Blu rays and DVDs come with digital copies and you inset them into the dvd drive and it downloads the movie to itunes and then you can put them on any iDevice. The new iMac does not have a dvd or disc drive. What can I do?

You will either need to borrow or purchase an external DVD drive, or if you have access to another computer that has a DVD drive you may be able to use Remote Disk:

Not the MBP-R's, you can't even change the RAM or storage in them.
The other 15" MBP's you can and they include the Superdrive built in.
Last time you do a impulsive purchase huh?

  • We do not have a dvd drive. how do we install the photoshop software?

I would like to install but do not have a dvd drive. how do we that?

There is no macbook of any vintage that doesn't have a dvd drive if it has any kind of optical drive, but you can always install the trial and enter your serial number into that. You will lose the special link to uploading to costco if you do it that way, though.
What makes you think your mac can't read a dvd?

  • I have no DVD drive on my computer.  Where are the downloads located?

I received discs for Photoshop elements & premier elements 12 with my new camera but my computer doesn't have a DVD drive.  I assumed it would be no big deal to download them from the Internet...wrong.  .I have serial numbers to install Photoshop but I cannot find where the downloads are located.  I find plenty of "trial" downloads but I should not have to pay for a product I already have.  Can anyone help me out there in cyber-land?  Adobe has no information on the website and I am unable to locate a live person.  So, that is you!  Hey live person, can you help this little ol lady?  Thank you so much!!

I am okay with a computer but not a geek that is for sure!
I downloaded the assistant and nothing happened.  I went to the site you so kindly suggested and started the download, and when I tried to apply it to the computer it said elements were missing.  I deleted the download and then started again.  Right now it is once again downloading the assistant.

    Thanks for the update.
What was the problem...the length of time for the download or just getting any download at all?
If necessary, I will go step by step with you through the tryout download from Adobe. But, the purchase of a USB external DVD/CD burner for your computer is a good idea and investment.
If you do the shopping for this, check out how many connections are necessary for it to the computer....none, one, or two...check out the length of the USB cable.
Please let us know how we can help. But, your mentioned place of purchase has a squad who should be able to help your with the purchase.
Thanks. Please update us on your progress when your schedule permits.
