Possible to install HD-DVD Burner in iMac G4?

Hi, I was wondering if it is at all possible to install HD-DVD burner in a iMac G4? Anyone tried this?

I know that Toast Titanium 8 for Mac supports Blu-Ray burning (Apple's loyalties are in the Blu-Ray not the HD DVD camp) but the G4 is not a processor I'd ever want to be encoding HD in. The G4 wouldn't even be up to playing discs. So I think you could do it with a Blu-Ray drive but you shouldn't do it. I hate having to wait whilst an SD DVD encodes HD is at least four times longer. Remember Apple hasn't put a HD spec burner in even it's 8-core Mac Pro yet!

  • Is it possible to install Thunderbolt driver on my iMac

is it possible to install Thunderbolt driver on my iMac. For some reason I was provided with a Thunderbolt port which is not connected. I have a Promise Pegasus 6 which I would like to use with my iMac

Your mid-2010 Intel iMac does not have a Thunderbolt port.

Perhaps you are confusing Thunderbolt with something else? If you're talking about a different computer, I doubt you would have a "not connected" Thunderbolt port. There is no such thing as a Thunderbolt driver. There are drivers for devices (like your Promise Pegasus R6), but Thunderbolt isn't a device. It's a communication interface.

  • Installed New DVD burner, but it will not burn DVDs

I just installed a new Pioneer DVR-112D DVD burner but when I try to burn a DVD with iDVD 4 it will not burn a DVD. It looks like iDVD 4 will get to stage 4 of the process but it will not finish burning the DVD. Can anyone help me out?
    Thank you

If you don't have Tiger, or iDVD 6 or higher, you will need PatchBurn

  • DVD burner for iMac - OS9.2

I have been looking all over the Internet, and local computer stores trying to find an external DVD burner the will work with my iMac, 350Mhz, Power PC with OS 9.2. I can't find one anywhere. all of the new ones are for OS X. My model iMac does not have firewall
Can anyone give me a way to find one?

...find an external DVD burner the will work with my iMac, 350Mhz, Power PC with OS 9.2.
I doubt that you will have any luck. Your iMac has USB 1 which will make DVD burning extremely slow. Since your iMac has a G3 processor, making video DVDs will be agonizingly slow and you will have to use Toast or some other 3rd party tool to do it. You should be able to use one to make data DVDs but it will be slow.

    You mean Firewire not firewall.

  • Is it possible to install Tiger onto my old iMac G3 ?

I would like to install Tiger onto my old iMac G3 and give it to my grandson. The iMac is presently running Mac OS 9.1 and has 320 mgs RAM and 6 GIG hard drive. The processor speed is 350 MHz. Is this possible ?
Can I use the Tiger OS disks that came with my new G5 or do I have to buy another Mac OS Tiger specifically for iMacs ?
I don't mind buying some more RAM if the above is possible - it is a lovely little machine and runs perfectly right now - I hate just dumping it! Grateful for any help, thanks, Diana.
    iMac G3   Mac OS 9.1.x

I don't know if Apple supports the G3 iMacs for Tiger. You may have to use Xpostfacto in order to install it on it. From what I've heard, performance on a 350MHz G3 with Tiger should be adequate. You might have to update your iMac's firmware before installing it, though.
Upgrading the hard drive will help some. Plus, I would suggest you get the memory up to at least 512MB. I'm pretty sure your model iMac will take up to 1GB via 2 PC100 slots.

  • Installing 2nd DVD burner

Would someone please point me to a link for installing a second burner in my Dual G4 FW800.
Both burners work fine connected individually on the bus, but not both connect at the same time
I think Master/Slave issue and I do not know how to reset the drives
    Original 4x Superdrive (Pioneer 105) and a 8x Lacie (NEC 2510A)
    I would appreciate any links/input
    Thankyou - Ron

Problem solved, eventually found the manuals for both Mac and Lacie

  • DVD burner for Imac G4?

Where could I purchase a replacement for a defective DVD drive in a machine just like the one listed here?

I've installed a Pioneer DVR-112BK (BK just stands for black) in my 1GHz imac. should be fine for your model. It's very quiet with quick and reliable burn speeds. the Pioneer DVR-112DBK is the same drive but cheaper because it can't write to DVD RAM disks, only read them, so see if that's something you want.
the drive itself is a bit shorter than the supplied OEM but will still fit when you take the front casing off (necessary for any model of drive).
can't provide huge amounts of info for retail in the US but but OWC computing (http://macsales.com/) have a good customer service rep and specialize in Macs.
    hope that helps.
NB - make sure you research the process of opening the dome before you do. it's tricky (see links).

  • Installing External DVD Burner, please help!

I've been trying all day to install my new External DVD Drive; it's an LG GE20 that SAYS it's Mac compatible, yet comes with no usable installation software, only a disc for Windows. I hooked it up and powered it on, put in the Windows install disc and it reads, but I cannot install anything. I'm sure there's drivers I need to be able to use the drive, but I've been scouring the net for hours trying to find a way to install this burner and the software it has on the disc onto my Macbook, and I read that there can also be problems getting lightscribe to work. If someone can guide me through installing this drive and getting it to work, I would be very appreciative.

the LG doesn't list Mac OS X as a supported OS for the GE20LU. but I'd be surprised if it doesn't work. In the off chance it doesn't you may want to check out toast.

  • Install second dvd burner

My new macpro comes with one dvd drive, I'd like to install a second one on the empty slot below. My question is what kind of drive do I need to purchase? IDE, SATA, etc? I assume I need to remove the front tray cover of the drive?
How about compatibility? What drives are known to be working well with macpro?
I also prefer to have LightSrib capability, what drive do you recommend?
    Thanks a lot!

    It is most likely SATA.
Not meaning to sound antagonizing, but the words "most likely" can cause a lot of trouble when the answer is wrong. The optical drives inside the Mac Pro use PATA, not SATA.
You shouldn't have to remove that cover.
Assumption again. Optical drives with small lips will clear, but it's been my experience that most lips have to be removed.

  • Possible to install Tiger on a new iMac?

I am looking to upgrade one of the designers in our studio to a new iMac, but I do not want them to have to run 10.5. There are still too many bugs with specific applications we use (especially in Photoshop). Does anyone know if it's possible to load 10.5 onto the new iMacs?
I really don't want to be forced to move to a new OS before it's been fully tested and working in our environment.
    Regards,
    Kristin.

You might ask around for build dates on iMacs. If it was built before Leopard ships, then you often get 10.4 on the machine and 10.5 updater in the box.
I bought my machine about 25 days before Leopard shipped for the very reason you describe. I knew it would come with Tiger, but was hoping (with fingers crossed) that Leopard would come out in time so I could get it free. I did.
But...as it turns out, I ended up going to Leopard after a few months anyway since I determined that all my mission critical apps would work in Leopard. Good luck!

  • What is the best external cd/dvd burner for imac?

My iMac internal cd/dvd reader died on me. I'm looking for a best external solutionb for this problem. Any solution?

    I may suggest OWC, http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/optical-drives/superdrives/
This is a case to put your own optical drive into. I have this case and I am impressed with it.
I also have a Pioneer Blu-Ray 12x in the case for doing Blu-Ray Authouring. I got my drive for about $99CDN.
Also, I watch Blu-ray movies on it with Mac Blu-Ray player.
    Does this help?

  • Want to install internal DVD burner - can it be ATA?

CompUSA has a couple of great deals on DVD burners, including one under their brand name. It is an ATA drive. Can I connect it to the ATA bus and put it in the 2nd optical drive bay on an MDD G4 dual 867?
Also, does anyone know who manufactures the CompUSA brand drives? I would like to figure out if it is compatible.
I've gotten tons of valuable info. from these discussions for the last few years - but have finally logged in for the first time. Thank you to all of you experts who share so much information. I just finished adding a Seagate 300 gb drive, ironing out the bugs with help from this discussion.

    Karen:
When you do purchase a new optical drive for a second drive installation, let us know and one of the members can assist you further with it, if you'd like. Moreover, you may need some info regarding how to tell the Mac which drive to use, which tray to open, etc...
Regarding the hard drive setup and issues, please start a new topic in the usage or expansion section, where I'm sure you'll get some good troubleshooting advice.

ps: I personally have a NEC ND-3550A which I purchased for $27 after a $12 rebate. It works beautifully. If the available price between the competing brands were the same, my first choice would have been one of the previously mentioned Pioneers.

  • Can i install a software in two imac?

    Hi All,
I recently purchased a software FCE4 and I want to install it into 2 imac.
For the first imac installation is no problem but I found that it can not be install in second imac.
Is it possible to install a software into 2 imac?
    Please advance the method.
    Many Thanks

What username? It means you have to own and control both machines. They're for your use. You can't buy a computer, install the software, and give it to someone else. So I guess the user registration name should be the same, but this does not apply to two iMacs.
