Possible to Install Logic 9 Content onto Another Drive?

I am using a small 60GB SSD drive, but I also have a larger drive inside the Mac. is it possible to install the additional content onto another drive? Otherwise I won't be able to use Logic 9 at all. Lame. :-(
Thanks in adva

I have the install DVD's but it only allows me to install the apple sound effects to the other drive. Believe it or not, I have now attempted to download it from the app store because it's smaller. I've seen some posts on YouTube about moving the files and I might try their techniques but I'm at a loss as to what to do.

My hard drive went out one of my Macs and I am trying to install logic studio on another Mac but the serial number is invalid. What are my options?

Check that the serial you are using is the correct one..
Typically the problem is either you are misreading the serial and therefore typing it in wrong. Check you are correctly entering zeros or O.. and so on....
    or...
You bought the LP9 upgrade version.... which requires the LP8 full serial as well.
If it is the LP9 upgrade serial.. (and not the LP9 full serial) you must enter your original LP8 full serial first and then the upgrade serial for LP9.. when it asks for it.
Failing that.. you can obtain a replacement serial from Apple.. using this form.....

  • How do I relocate part of my home folder onto another drive

    Hi all
I am about to take delivery of my new Mac Pro, but with only 512MB of startup SSD I don't have room for my whole home folder. I have found plenty of info online about moving my whole home folder onto another drive, but as my external drive is only USB3 I don't want to do that. Instead I want to move my Movies and Pictures folders only and then tell my system to forget about the old location and treat the new location as though it is the home folder just for those two bits.
Sure I can just copy them over and delete the old folder contents, but as soon as I want to do something like save a pic or movie the system defaults to the old empty location.
It's not the end of the world, but if I can fix it, I'd like to. The plan is to sort this on my current Mac Mini before the new toy arrives, so I can easily set up the new one.
    All guidance gratefully received.
    Regards
    Tim

    Hello,
You can use some basic unix wizardry to make this happen.  What you will be doing is creating a unix "soft link" from your home directory to the actual location of the directories, wherever they may be.  This link serves as a "behind-the-scenes redirect" to the actual location to which you link.  For example, with the soft link in place, if you
    Here's what you do:
Use Finder to move your directories of choice from your home directory to the external HDD.  This will require your admin password.  Now you should see the folders on your external HDD, and NOT in your home folder.  For purposes of this procedure, I will assume your external HDD is named "Storage".  Wherever you see "Storage" in the following steps, replace it with the actual name of your external HDD.
    Open the Terminal app.
From the command prompt, type the following commands (with a <return> after each) to create a soft link (in this example we are using the "Movies" folder.  The "Movies" folder must have been moved in Step 1 to the external HDD):
         cd
         ln -s /Volumes/Storage/Movies Movies
Repeat the "ln -s" command for each folder that you have moved in Step 1.
    Here's what's happening in Step 3:
The "cd" command just ensures that you are in your home directory.
The "ln -s" command creates a link from the external HDD directory, to a directory in your present location (i.e., your home directory)
There is one side affect that I don't know how to get around.  Once you do this, the icon that shows up for the "Movies" folder in your home directory will no longer be the fancy system icon for the Movies folder.  It will be a vanilla folder icon, with an curved arrow.  The curved arrow is a visual indication that the file/folder is link to somewhere else.
    Hope this helps.

  • Is it possible to install Panther directly onto ibook w/ OS9

Is it possible to install Panther directly onto a clamshell ibook with OS9, or do I have to install the various versions of X prior?
    PM

    Hi Paul,
if your iBook meets the 10.4 System Requirements (e.g. Built-In Firewire, 256 MB RAM,...) then you can directly install 10.4 without going through all the previous versions. However, be aware that you cannot use the install disk that came with your MacBook Pro!!! These are hardware specific and also specific to the Intel-CPU.

  • C: drive is full - move only iTunes Media folder contents to another drive without consolidating?

My iTunes library contains a combination of music/movies/etc that I've purchased or downloaded from the iTunes Store as well as music I've purchased from Amazon and my own ripped CDs (not ripped via iTunes...other software).  The Amazon and ripped files have always lived on my D drive (for easier sharing betwen family members, without opening up permissions on our User folders), while the Store files all live under my User profile on C.
I'd like to move the iTunes Media folder contents off of C and onto D.  All the instructions that use "consolidating" and "keeping the media folder organized" will not work for me, since I do not want all my files under the iTunes Media folder...I like them where they are now in D:\Music\Amazon and D:\Music\CDCollection.
Do I have to resort to moving the files myself, adding them into the library again, then cleaning up the orphaned library entries that are pointing to the old location?
    Thanks!

Copy the entire iTunes folder from your music folder to D:\iTunes.
Click the icon to start iTunes and immediately press and hold down the shift key. Keep holding until asked to choose or create a library.
Click Choose and navigate to the file D:\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl
Check the library is working properly.
Use the option File > Library > Organize Library > Consolidate Files to import any stay files to the new library folder.
Delete the old iTunes folder on the C: drive.
Ideally you will also backup this library to another drive.

  • Possible to install CS5 on an external drive?

    Hi all,
I'm new to adobe products so I apologize if this is a common question; I tried my best to search the forums for an answer. I recently bought CS5 to use on my 2007 Macbook (snow leopard) for personal use, just to keep my skills current. I wouldn't be using the software that often and I'm worried it'll slow up my computer too much if I keep it on here permanently. I only have about 28 gb free. Is it possible to install and store the software on an external drive?
I see in the tech specs it can't be installed on a flash drive, but is there a way to install it on the laptop and then move it to a drive? If so, how big does the drive need to be? (I'd want something relatively portable) Are there any other problems that could arise from this? Thanks so much.
    Emma

    Several points:
Computers don't get slow because of a lack of hard drive space, unless there is very very little left (let's say under 1GB). You may be thinking of RAM (memory), where the more programs that are running simultaneously, the more difficult it is for the running ones to allocate memory and they may page between RAM and disk (virtual memory), which is slow.
You can install Creative Suite 5 on your hard drive and move it. Most of the Adobe programs will happily detect that they have been moved and update their idea of where they live. I think you will find that this causes mild problems for Acrobat, but it just means you get more annoying prompts when you start it up. Still, I would leave it alone.
In CS5.5, the installer lets you choose the location of the install (which Acrobat then ignores...). I can't remember if CS5 lets you choose, but I've moved it after the fact without a problem.
Another issue is that there are a lot of common files that are not installed in the Applications folder. For instance, I have 2.4 GB in /Library/Application Support/Adobe. I would not recommend trying to move these files unless you are familiar and comfortable with symbolic links (ln -s).

  • Installing Logic on a PT drive - help needed

My first post here, hello everyone.
I am having problems getting Logic 7.1 to work on my G5 Dual 2Ghz. I have Pro Tools HD TDM 7.1cs4 working OK, and wanted to test Logic out (with CoreAudio, not with TDM). Basically when I load Logic, it scans Audio Units slowly (but with several; "the application auval unexpectedly quit after it reopened" messages to which I press "Reopen"), then opens with the usual splash screen, then a dialogue box comes up saying "No Memory for Instrument". Pressing "Abort" brings up this screen many times before Logic opens, but only shows an automation tracklist which cannot be recorded to.
I have Logic 6.4.3 installed in the apps folder (wondering if this is a problem) but this does not open (as I think it won't work on 10.4), But when I installed Logic 7.0 from the DVD, it did not erase Logic 6. Sorry, this is may be pretty basic stuff but I'm not that familiar with Logic's quirks as I haven't used it on a G5 at all.
From reading other posts I sort of gather that Logic 7.1 and PT 7.1 can co-exist on the same G5 partition so long as they are not used together.
I should also explain that Logic 7.0 doesn't seem to want to even load; so I dragged a copy of 7.1.1 which I've used on my laptop, onto my G5 drive - maybe this is the wrong approach...!
    Any help appreciated, thanks.
    G5 Dual 2Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Hopefully you installed PT first. Part of the problem may be 7.2 (Logic). That is the version for your PT version-though how much of an effect that has on digi as CA is greyer. Try first running Logic as CA using built in audio-after that you shouldn't have to continue with AUVal. If you then get past AUVal try configuring the digihw as CA and then enabling it in Logic. IF it is 7.2 dependant (which with CA it shouldn't be under normal circumstances) that's the answer. But more likely narrowing it down and eliminating suspects is the way to go. You can also try CA digihw with other audio apps and see if you have any similar problems.

  • Installing Logic Pro 8 / System Drive or Audio Drive

    Hi,
I've just bought a new imac (2.4 GHz / 2GB) & Logic Pro 8, I'm going to buy a faster drive for recording audio but should i also install logic to the faster audio drive? or maybe just the extra content (sampled instruments) & keep the application on the standard system drive?
    Cheers.

    Hi mate,
Personally I do have samples on the same drive as my audio but I've seen this is an area of contention. I think the consensus is that if you have both audio and sampled instruments (also audio) running off the same drive, it won't be as quick as running one or the other off a separate drive. That may be true but it depends on the speeds of both drives etc. I tend to keep all media or content that will stream on a drive other than the system drive (except things that refuse to install elsewhere) and I've had good performance so far.
    Cheers

  • Installing Logic on an External Drive?

    Wondering...
Can you install Logic on an external hard drive or does it need to go on the same drive as the system folder?
I dont' have a free 4GB right now for the update. How much free space do you guys recommend for LP7?
    Chris

    > I had no idea that you needed so much free space
You don't really need it: it's Apple recommendation. The less ram you have, the more disk space you need. My PowerBook came with 600 MB of ram and a 20 GB 5400 rpm drive. I took me some time to find out that swap files silently grew in the background, recessed in an invisible system folder, namely /private/var/vm/ and were slowly eating up my disk space.
Macromat, maker of the famous TechTool, advise sparing 4 GB of free space minimum, but quickly adds that the more you spare, the smoother the operating system runs.

  • How to install the apps on another drive ?

    Hi,
Did any of you could install the creative cloud apps on another drive than C:program/adobe ?
My computer has a very small C drive and I could not manage to install the creative cloud apps on another hardrive (D:)

Fabien you can adjust the install location with in the preference option within the Creative Cloud Desktop application.  Please be aware that shared components will still need to be installed on your primary drive.

  • Is it possible to install apps on an external drive?

    Hi.
I'm leasing an Imac for 2 years, and then can trade it in for the next generation.
Rather than have to re-install the  apps, is it possible to put them on an external thunderbolt or 800  firewire drive?
    Thanks.

Most applications only install on the boot drive, though with some it's possible to move them after installation, or to choose where they install. The best approach is probably to just install them on the boot drive as normal, then clone your entire hard drive to an external drive when it comes time to upgrade your system. You can then use Migration Assistant to move your applications, settings and documents from the external drive to your new system, or just clone it back (assuming that the version of Mac OS X on the
Note though that in two years, it's quite probably that your current applications will need to be upgraded to be compatible with the version of Mac OS X then available - certainly 10.7 Lion and perhaps even yet a newer version by then - and you'll quite possibly need to reinstall at least some the applications anyway.

  • Install Logic on the another comp? Legal?

    Hi!
I am owner of Logic Studio, full license.
I have iMac, and have installed there whole package of Studio.
I am thinking to buy another, mobile, macbook for the concert recording.

  • Installing Logic Pro on another computer.

This may seem like a bit of a silly question, but to be honest I have no idea. I purchased Logic Pro 9 from the app store for my regular ol' MacBook and I haven't had enough memory to install the extra content on it. Now I want to install Logic Pro 9 once again on me iMac, but I have no idea about how to go about it. If I go to the app store it doesn't say install and it seems like it wants me to pay for it again. (Maybe i'm not signed in?) I would appriciate the help because I really want to get back to making music

Log into it with the Apple ID you previously used.

  • Cannot install Snow Leopard onto external drive

I'm attempting to install Snow Leopard on a second drive, an external bare drive in an Icy Dock enclosure connected to a MacPro (running 10.6.6) via serial port. Apple Disc Utility confirms that the external drive (a Seagate 325gb) has a partition map scheme GUID Partition Table. SMART Status is not supported. Connection Bus reads as SCSI but it's connected with a serial cable.
I'm able to perform the first part of the install by selecting the external drive but when I have to restart and complete the install from the original Snow Leopard disc (10.6), the external drive no longer shows up. I've tried several times and have restarted the Icy Dock external drive enclosure.
    Any ideas? Thank you.

Not necessarily. Use a backup utility so that you can deselect all the data from within your Home folder as well as third-party applications in order to create a bootable disk but without some of the excess. Any of the following should be suitable:
    Backup Software Recommendations
    Carbon Copy Cloner
    Data Backup
    Deja Vu
    Silver Keeper
    MimMac
    Retrospect
    Super Flexible File Synchronizer
    SuperDuper!
    Synchronize Pro! X
    Synk Pro
    Synk Standard
    Tri-Backup
Others may be found at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
