Possible to just swap monitor profile onto new machine?

Might have to get some more horsepower in quick.
At the moment though, we don't have the time to set up the new machines beyond 30 mins or so... so is there any catch/problem to pulling off the monitor profile off an old machine and using it on a new machine if it's driving the very same monitor?
just wondering if there's some monkeying beyond that i'm not aware of... jumping from 10.4.11 to whatever the latest kitty litter is as well.

yep, that was my thinking mike.
if it was 100% safe i'd do it, but it means re-calibrating monitors, which we're happy with for the short term.
problem is that the calibration will monkey with the monitor's hardware, which makes back tracking impossible as well.
just wanted to add some horsepower onto a project without upsetting the apple cart.

I'm a big fan of resetting in situations like this. Who knows what boxes you've ticked where...
Use the hard reset button with a paper clip on your Airport express. Hold it til the light starts blinking, then let it reset.
While it's resetting, go into your Network prefs and make sure you're set up to connect via Airport. Delete any references to your prior wireless network in the preferred networks section. Go into your keychain utility and delete any passwords there. (this is assuming you were using some form of wireless security).
After your AE has restarted, choose it from the Airport pull-down menu and run the Airport Setup Assistant utility. Once you've got it up and running, use Airport Admin utility to set security and passwords.
Seems drastic, but after all the poking around you've done, these steps should be pretty simple to perform. I'm guessing your original "Looking for PPPoE host" was a temporary problem with your IP. Maybe the ethernet cable was unplugged from AE?

Copying iTunes onto new machine

i have copied my entire iTunes library, including directory structure, from a backup thats held on my Time Capsule onto my new iMac. although the correct path is set in settings, when i open iTunes there is nothing there. i expect this may be due to copyright but the majority of the content was loaded from CD's so I didnt think there would be a problem. please help me somebody. i couldn't bare to have to load them all again. especially as the new machine doesnt even have a CD drive!

From the older Mac, you copied the entire iTunes folder, placing that folder in the music folder on the new Mac? Try quitting iTunes, then hold option, click the iTunes icon. With option held, that should bring up the choose library option. Select the transferred iTunes folder and click choose in the lower right.

Reinstalling Logic pro onto new machine

I have Logic pro originally with XS key now I want to install it on a new machine but dont have the original disc lost in a house move. Have the serial number and the key but using Migration assistant transfers but wont open also tried copying the application directly from and to the respective app's folders, same cant message... What can I do?

I was just going to write about this as well! I have moved reacently and have a new mbp. I want to move my logic 9 studio to my mbp instead of my imac. I have all my keys/Serial #'s just can't find my disks for 9. Now I found my Logic 8 disks but can't install that b/c it does not work with Lion. Is there anyway to just transfer it from my imac?

I just bought a new laptop and wanted to move my old offline messages into the new mail.
I tried copying the folders into the new library/mail folder, but that just confused mail.app. So, I deleted those folders (both in finder and in mail.app) an started again.
Then I tried importing mailboxes from mail.app. This resulted in a partial transfer, but many folders were white and didn't transfer.
The only thing I can find that works to to drag one folder at a time online to my email server, then drag it onto my laptop. This method is impractical though, since the server doesn't want me using all that bandwidth.
*bottom line*
Is there some way to transfer the email messages directly from one computer to the other?

I think I just figured it out. You just copy the folders into the same library/mail directory... but the trick is to click "REBUILD" in the mail.app menu. That's how mail finds the new messages stored there.

Entitlements and Desktops when transferring ear file onto new machine

Hi all
I am encountering a problem when i transfer and deploy my ear file onto another remote test machine. When i log into my WebLogic Administration Portal all my desktops, entitlements etc are gone. I tried to refresh using the DataSync by going to the Bootstrap page but no luck - nothing refreshed.
The remote machine is also NOT running on Production Mode.
Is this the way it's supposed to be- i.e do i have to create a new portal, new desktop and create the visitor entitlements roles again on the Amin Portal of my remote machine or is their a way to just refresh the Admin Portal?
Please help cos I'm quite new to WebLogic Portal.

Deploying an EAR is a separate process from deploying other assets such as information in the database. Please see the documentation on the Portal Propagation Tool for information on how to move these other assets between environments.

I bought Lightroom last November. Trying to reload onto new machine. Serial number won't work says contact customer suppoet. What a laugh. Been trying to get some sense through twitter etc etc for days now. No LR since June.

Any idea how to get Customer support to take notice of my problem?? It's beyond a joke. Any help would be very gratefully received.

You may have downloaded the LR 5 Creative Cloud trial version and trying to input the perpetual version license key, that will not work.

Our Audition 3 is apparently no longer able to "register" through the regular channels. Adobe registration sent me here for info, saying it was a CS 2 product. Just putting it on a new machine, doing forensic work, not on line.

Registration lady implied there is a work around for re-installing/activating Audition 3.

Uploading itunes onto new computer

i uploaded itunes from old computer to new one using an external hard drive, once uploaded onto new machine i scanned the music in itunes as instructed. unfotunately i then had to delete it and upload it over again due to a problem. after doing so and trying to play music from my library, i am now receiving a message asking me to register the product? no music is able to be played.... help?

There's a couple of ways to get through to the authorisation controls in the 11.0.x versions.
The control is still in the Store menu, but first (if you're using iTunes versions 11.0.x) you might need to bring up the menu bar to see the Store menu.
If you're using 11.0.x, click on the wee boxy icon up in the top-left corner of your iTunes to see the "Show Menu Bar" control, as per the following screenshot:
Then you'll find the control in the Store menu:
Alternatively, if you don't want to bring up the menu bar, it's still possible to get into the authorise controls via nested menus accessible from the wee boxy icon. Here's a screenshot of where to find them:

How to transfer Logic Pro X downloadable content to new machine?

Hi, so I've got Logic Pro X installed on two machines, on one I've recently downloaded the 30 odd GB of additional content. Needless to say I don't really want to do it all over again for the other machine.
Is it possible to just copy the content onto the new machine, and if so, which ones do I copy?

You can.. but you don't want to as it can cause more issues that take more time to resolve than it saves... and in the end you will probably have to download and install all the content anyhow.. so do it the correct way in the first place and save yourself a bunch of possible trouble and time trying to fix it later....

How do in install DVD Studio Pro 2 onto new machine when PowerPC applications are no longer supported in OSX 10.7.4? I have the original disc which i bought a few years ago but can not install it! Help please.

DVD Studio Pro 2 was released on August 6, 2003.
It won't run on a recent Mac (Intel).
There is absolutely no way to install and run it on a modern Mac.

Possible to bypass monitor profile when displaying image?

After importing a large photo library into Aperture I noticed that when viewing images, they would change color and in a little under a second the colors looked significantly less "colorful and rich" than before. Sounds "subjective" but it really is not. There is definitely a transformation going on and the colors consistently become duller on every image viewed. It is especially noticeable in a album of images taken in the fall using a circular polarizer where the colors looked really great to begin with and then extremely dull after the transformation. I deleted all of the preview images and set aperture to not regenerate them. Still, same issue occurred. The issue occurs with both RAW and jpg images.
In Canon Image Browser on the Mac colors look great. It's easy to do an A to B comparison of the same file and see that it looks better in every case.
But what I've discovered is that I can get the same "dulling" result to occur using Canon's Image Browser 6.x software just by setting one option.
There is an option checkbox in Preferences that is disabled by default to "Adjust Image Colors Using A Monitor Profile." Prior to setting that option, the colors looked great, just like they looked on the camera LCD, and they same as they look on my PC also using Canon Image Browser software and Irfan view. The rich colors seen when not using monitor profile also match what I see in Safari, Chrome, and Internet Explorer browsers.
In Canon Image Browser when I set the checkbox to "Adjust Image Colors Using A Monitor Profile" the colors become very muted. They look identical to what I see in Aperture. Also, I can get the same effect to occur on the PC version of Canon Image Browser. Microsoft's "Windows Photo Viewer" seems to be monitor profile aware as it shows the same dull colors. "Windows Photo Viewer" offers no option that I can find to improve the look of the color. Maybe this is what you want if you're trying to print your images and have them match exactly what is seen on screen.
I have found that with Photoshop CS5 I can export a jpg to tiff which strips out the color space information and then voila the image "pops" when I bring it into aperture and looks the way it does in Canon Image Browser without using monitor profile. In fact you can really then compare within Aperture how big the difference is between the two, and the only thing I did was resave the image to a new file format without doing anything else in photoshop. It's not feasible to resave evertthing as tiff though.
So my main question is, is there a way within Aperture to bypass the monitor profile so I can see the images with the same colors as they are rendered in the majority of the other tools I use.

I've done some additional testing on a jpeg image.
Test 1:
Canon Image Browser: "Preferences/Adjust Image Colors Using a Monitor Profile" is unhecked
Photoshop CS5: "View/Proof Setup" is set to "Monitor RGB"
Aperture: "Onscreen Proofing" enabled and set to "Generic RGB" Additionally I've tried every other color profile available
Result: The colors look identically rich on Photoshop and Canon Image Browser. Aperture is the only tool I can't get to align with the rich colors.
Test 2
Canon Image Browser: "Preferences/Adjust Image Colors Using a Monitor Profile" is checked. Restart the software to apply change.
Photoshop CS5: "View/Proof Setup" is set to "Internet standard sRGB"
Aperture: "Onscreen Proofing" enabled and set to "sRGB"
Result: The colors match on all 3 tools. The color are very noticeably less rich than in Test 1.
I went ahead and previewed the image in the browsers on the Mac. Chrome and Firefox showed the color the same as Photoshop and Canon Image Browser did in Test 1 which looks better in my opinion.
For Safari color looks the same as Test 2.
Also Apple Preview looks the same as Test 2 no matter which soft proofing setting is applied.
I believe Adobe and Canon have the correct behavior and show either richer or duller colors depending on which "proofing" mode they are in. Only aperture so far cannot be made to do the richer colors.

New Monitor Showing Different Colors - Monitor Profile?

Hi All, in need of some help. I got a new Acer monitor and I am having three issues. The first is when I open photoshop I ger the following error: "Monitor Profile ACER S232HL appears to be defective. Please return your monitor calibration softwear." Then it gives me two choices, to either "Ignore Profile" or "Use Anyway". I've tried both and they both make the images appear differently. What do I do? When I first plugged in the monitor I was using HDMI and I was told that would be the best. When I ran into the above trouble it was reccmended to me that I use the DVI. The DVI did help to get richer blacks, but didn't help anything else.
And just for a control group, I plugged my old monitor back in and everything is fine, but I'd like to use my new one! HELP! Thank you

Canned monitor profiles are notoriously inaccurate or outright defective. Unless you want to go all the way and calibrate/profile with a third-party package, you're probably much better off just using sRGB, and that's what happens when you click "Ignore Profile".
It's the same solution in the link you posted, only more convoluted.

Come back if you still see this with sRGB as the profile. In general Ps and Lr are both fully color managed and will use the full monitor profile for display. Most other applications are not, so this is not entirely unexpected in itself.
When I ran into the above trouble it was reccmended to me that I use the DVI.
Shouldn't matter. The two are fully compatible and the digital video signal is the same.

You already have got OS X Mavericks installed (the Keynote, Pages and Numbers versions available in the Mac App Store are only compatible with OS X Mavericks).
You have got a Late 2013 MacBook Pro, which uses a special OS X Mavericks version that is not available in the Mac App Store. This is the reason why the Mac App Store is not compatible with OS X Mavericks even if you are using it. This will be fixed in OS X 10.9.1, when your Mac uses the same Mavericks version as all other Macs.
