Possible to Monitor only Uncaught Exceptions?
Is it possible to configure AI to only monitor uncaught exceptions?
One of my clients has a legacy site which 301 redirects a bunch of traffic. This site still gets significant traffic from crawlers, and we use a 404 handler on the new site to intelligently Response.RedirectPermanent these requests to the correct
new page. However, AI sees each one of these page hits as an exception. Is there any way to configure AI to only monitor uncaught exceptions?
Hello RNCRyan,
If you are using MMA - there is an entry in collection plan that you can change for this matter (it enables/disables reporting of handled exceptions):
<EnableAllExceptions>true</EnableAllExceptions>
Default collection plan has "true" here, so you should have your custom collection plan with this setting switched to false.
In case of On-Premises or IaaS installation you can specify your collection plan in Start-WebApplicationMonitoring command:
Start-WebApplicationMonitoring -Name {YourWebApplicationName} -Mode Custom -CollectionPlan {PathToCustomCollectionPlan} -OutputChannel Cloud
If it's Windows Azure PaaS, then you should place your collection plan under the applicaiton root (side-by-side with web.config) before deployment. File name should be like: monitoring.collectionplan.config.

Increasing Crashes "Read Only Memory Exception" HELP please!
Over the past month and a half I'm starting to get regular and increasing crashes, mostly in my Adobe CS3 programs with this error:
Read-only memory exception. A memory reference was made to an address that cannot be written to.
unresolvablePageFaultException
I am starting to get towards my wit's end and want to rule out hard drive or logic board problems. Today after I got this crash in Dreamweaver and Fireworks (for the first time in FW), all my programs stopped opening and responding. I am noticing in Activity monitor 2 continuous stalls:
175 UserEventAgent (Not Responding) 0.0 3 4.10 MB 722.06 MB
168 colormunkid (Not Responding) 0.0 1 8.20 MB 766.86 MB
Even after reboots.

on OS X10.4.11.
If I choose passive FTP, Dreamweaver appears to upload a
file, when in fact the error logs reports that the file could not
be upload because it was not found, or because of permission
problems.
If I do not upload with passive FTP , Dreamweaver 8 crashes
& Dreamweaver 8 loses the site's root folder, informing me that
it cannot be found and I must use the manage sites feature to
recreate the cache for the site that was there.
If I use FETCH, no problem... all files are uploaded
successfully.
I recently had a hard drive failure on my Mac, had a new HD
installed by the folks at the Genius Bar, and thought perhaps my
new HD was buggy... however, now it seems there must a a
permissions problem built into the Dreamweaver FTP protocols.
I have not seen a patch for this, although when I reinstalled
the software, I did download all updates.
I know my reply offers no solutions, but I do thank you for
your post. -
Reboot by taking out my battery and then this message
"Uncaught exception:application net_rim_bb_messaging_app"...with different numbers in brackets come up ie (228) or (88) etc "is not responding process terminated."
I then get the option to press ok. My screen is then frozen for a while followed by a moment where I can press a couple of buttons but not get into any messages. It then freeze and the same message comes up again with the only difference being the bracketed #.
Repeat...
Does anyone know what to do?
ThanksHello!
There's pretty much no diagnosing those -- they are the equivalent of the random errors in Windows for which tracing the root cause is fruitless. Basically, these are the last out in the programming code -- some event occurred for which there is no handler in the code. The fix is a code update that handles the event...but, again, knowing what the event is is pretty much impossible. So, there are a few things to try:
If it won't boot up cleanly, then you may need to try Safe Mode:
KB17877 How to start a BlackBerry smartphone in safe mode
There might be an updated code set from the carrier -- check them via this portal:
http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
The toughest possible cause is a badly behaving app. To find it, there are a couple of options. One is to see if you can read the log file:
Go to the home screen. Hold down the "alt" key and type 'lglg'. (You will not see anything while you type). This will bring up the log file. Scroll down (probably many pages) untill you see a line that says 'uncaught execption'. Click on this line. The name of the app will be in the info. Alternative methods for bringing up the logs are in this KB:
KB05349How to enable, access, and extract the event logs on a BlackBerry smartphone
The other method is to remove apps one at a time, waiting a while in between (I usually recommend a week), until the problem ceases...thereby discovering the offending app. Still another method is to reload the BB OS cleanly, leaving some time between adding other apps onto the BB so as to be able to determine exactly which one is the cause.
Good luck and let us know!

ThreadPoolExecutor and Uncaught Exceptions. Thread Leakage
Hi All
Maybe this is answered somewhere but I didn't find a good answer.
My questions is What happens with the Thread when the executing task ends because of an Uncaught Exception?
Is it possible that the thread in which the task was running never come back to the pool (Thread leakage)?
In general what situations could cause that threads never come back to the pool when using a ThreadPoolExecutor object?
Thanks a lot in advancegogoasa wrote:
I am just exploring this problem. My experience on this is that if your Runnable throws RuntimeException, the Worker finishes, never to be revived again. So, for example, if you have a ThreadPoolExecutor which originally has a fixed pool size of 50 threads, it will lose a Thread/Worker for each RuntimeException thrown. If it runs long enough, one by one workers will disappear. Strangely enough, the last Worker will continue forever, untill the workQueue is exhausted. I wonder if this is intended behaviour or a bug.looking at the code, this could probably be termed a "bug". basically, threads are added only when the Executor.execute method is called (so, when new tasks are added). so, if you have a long initial queue and threads are terminated, they will not get replaced to service existing tasks. only the addition of new tasks will cause new threads to be created. and, as you noted, the termination code does require that one thread stay alive. not sure why the termination code does not replace threads if the queue is not empty.
my guess is that this code is not optimized as you really shouldn't be throwing uncaught exceptions. in fact, if you call submit instead of execute (such that you get back a Future), you won't have this problem as the Future handling traps all thrown exceptions (thus, the executor will never see an uncaught exception). -

This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2. -
Error Message when trying to open mail - Uncaught Exception - Help!
Hello
Yesterday when I received a notification that I had new emails I clicked on the envelope on the home screen only to find the error message: 'Uncaught exception: String index out of range: -1' I now can't access my mail at all. I have rebooted the phone and it is still coming up.
I just wondered if anyone else had this error message before and the easiest way to resolve it?
My phone is a Curve 9300 and running on v5.0.0.794 (Platform 6.3.0.23)
Thanks
Emmai have a bold 9780 and I got: "Uncaught exception:java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException" now i can't open messages or text

Unexpected problem: uncaught exception when working with audio files in Soundtrack Pro
Hey,
Whenever I double click an audio file in the timeline to work on it, I end up getting the Error message: "Unexpected problem: uncaught exception" and Soundtrack Pro eventually crashes. Also, this happens when I try to work with audio files in the file editor. I have Leopard and am using Logic Studio 8. Any insight would be much appreciated. Thanks
MattDidnt know how to remove the original clip from the STP arrange window - or whatever it's called in STPro. So I could go no further in my perverse science experiment.
It also appeared that I could only import an aif but not a wav?
I gave up on STPro and did what I needed to do in Logic, which I use regularly.
Thank you for folowing up on this.
PS. I used to use an old PowerPC version (1.0.3) of STPro and loved the way it visually showed the change in the waveform when you added each efffect. It appears that the new version (3.0.1) does not allow you to do this anymore? You can render or flatten the effects to see the final waveform, but then you are dead in the water and cant make changes?
Im such a newbie at STPro that I am probably not using it right? -
Hey – I am having a very strange issue with my external monitor; where it only works if my external speakers are plugged in and connected.
I am using a late 2011 Macbook pro, running Mavericks 10.9.4, along with an MBox 2 (USB Audio Interface), and two powered speakers (KRK Rokit 5). This setup has had no issues. I have just acquired an external monitor (Benq T2200HD), which I am using with a thunderbolt to VGA adaptor (a cheap Chinese knockoff adaptor).
To start - I plugged the monitor in with the thunderbolt adaptor, and it powers up and works fine. However, there is a nasty buzz coming from the speakers. I did some research and it looks like a simple ground loop issue. I did a bit of troubleshooting, and this is where things get weird.
What I found is - If I unplug the MBox, the monitor loses signal from the computer (displaying ‘No Signal Detected!’). Further, if I keep the MBox plugged in, however unplug both the cables from the MBox to the speakers, the monitor loses signal. It doesn’t matter if the speakers are turned off, however they need to be plugged in (or the monitor loses signal). Weirder still, I can unplug the MBox, however the monitor will work if I plug in the speakers through my macs headphone jack.
Simply put, the monitor only works if there is a direct connection between the computer, the speakers, and the power source. What is going on here? Is the monitor grounding through the computer port, to the speakers (I don’t know how this works, is this possible?). Could it somehow be the cheap VGA adaptor I am using?
Some other information:
- Everything is plugged into the same multi-box for power. I have tried plugging things into separate sources, and the result is the same.
- If I unplug the thunderbolt adaptor, then the speaker noise disappears straight away.
- The ground noise doesn’t appear in my headphones, which are plugged into the MBox.
Any information would be great – am I missing something here, or is this genuinely weird?Well, I went back into Best Buy to test on 3 other laptops (2 Asus, and their floor model for this Sony). It seems to be doing the same problem so at least I was able to rule out broken hardware issue on my particular laptop.
Here's what I did to test:
Since I couldn't really install Adobe Premiere on their machines, I used the DVIO software (http://www.carr-engineering.com/dvio.htm) and a 5 min clip I captured. I transferred onto their machines, hooked up my Sony D8, and attempted to play the video. It would play for 15 seconds and then stop and jitter with a loud noise (like it does on my laptop). I even tried changing each machine's firewire driver to the legacy one and same results. I pulled a brand new 4 pin to 4 pin firewire cable off their shelf and still the same problem.
I think I've nailed it down to Win7x64 bit Home Edition not playing nice with Firewire driver. Very annoying. I can't find any concrete evidence of this from other users on any of the forums that have my particular problem, but from my own testing, it's all I can conclude.
I have 2 other things I can try:
1. Opening the laptop and looking at the firewire to maybe find appropriate driver (ugh, I don't want to have to open this thing up).
2. Upgrading to Win7x64bit Pro and possibly testing with XP on the new MS Virtual PC (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/). I can't do it with my Home edition apparantly.
Who needs to view video on an external TV anyways....sheeesh...(scarcasm).
Tim -
Hi,
I have spent a whole and very frustrating day trying to solve the following problem and in exasperation I resort to a posting here. Note no changes had been made to the phone prior to the start of the problem.
My Blackberry 9800 Torch freezes on power-up. It can only be ‘unfrozen’ by taking out the battery or, if left alone, after many minutes it comes up with the white screen, ‘App Error 602' and ‘Reset’ which is highlighted. Resetting has the same effect as taking out the battery. After each restart, it goes through the usual security and time checks and then freezes again. However, on rare occasions I got the message “Uncaught exception: Application net_rim_bb_messaging_app(144) is not responding; process terminated”.
Soon after the restart, after the Security Software Verification and on confirming the time/date, there is a very small window of opportunity (literally a couple of seconds) to access the phone. After much trial and error, I discovered that (in Manage Connections) by disabling the Mobile Network and WiFi - effectively putting it into ‘aeroplane mode’ - the device would work, without any problem and indefinitely. Except, of course, I couldn’t access the phone network nor the internet, which isn’t helpful(!).
I have taken this opportunity to do a full back-up on to my PC, through BlackBerry Desktop Software (though I’m not sure this backs up downloaded Apps??). Separately, I've also copied all the subdirectories from the phone’s memory and media card on to the PC, retaining their correct structures (but presumably also copying the corruption causing the problem?).
Any ideas???
- thanks in advance! The method you are attempting is the automatic method...sometimes it just doesn't work, and you must take control. The simplest way is to, on a PC (you cannot do this on MAC):
1) Make sure you have a current and complete backup of your BB...you can find complete instructions via the link in my auto-sig below.
2) Uninstall, from your PC, any BB OS packages
3) Make sure you have the BB Desktop Software already installed
http://us.blackberry.com/software/desktop.html
4) Download and install, to your PC, the BB OS package you desire:
http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
It is sorted first by carrier -- so if all you want are the OS levels your carrier supports, your search will be quick. However, some carriers are much slower than others to release updates. To truly seek out the most up-to-date OS package for your BB, you must dig through and find all carriers that support your specific model BB, and then compare the OS levels that they support.
5) Delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
6a) For changing your installed BB OS level (upgrade or downgrade), you can launch the Desktop Software and connect your BB...the software should offer you the OS package you installed to your PC.
6b) Or, for reloading your currently installed BB OS level as well as for changing it, bypass the Desktop Software and use LOADER.EXE directly, by proceeding to step 2 in this process:
http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Device-Software/How-To-Reload-Your-Operating-Syste...
Note that while written for "reload" and the Storm, it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or reload any BB device model -- it all depends on the OS package you download and install to your PC.
If, during the processes of 6a or 6b, your BB presents a "507" error, simply unplug the USB cord from the BB and re-insert it...don't do anything else...this should allow the install to continue.
If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:
KB19915How to perform a clean reload of BlackBerry smartphone application software using BlackBerry Desktop Software

I have made a trigger that does date validations. It calls procedure for all the validations. And the above shown code is a part of the validations that the procedure does.
Please help.

I have myself checked and tested with all these conditions. Tried all to_date formats and dbms_output to be sure of the values but nothing seems to work.
It works in a sample code. But when implemented in the procedure it is ignoring the RAISE_APPLICATION_ERROR.
Condition is correct. Below is the logic because of which I can say it's correct
If 1=1 then
raise_application_error (-20001, 'ABC');
end;
this ignores the raise_application_error.
However if I modify the code with exception block, WITHOUT CHANGING THE CONDITION, iti works fine
if 1=1 then
raise ex_ab
exception
raise_application_error (-20001, 'ABC');
end;
Now the exception is raised.
NOTE: EVen if I am using 1=1 condition in my code, it is still ignoring the RAISE_APPLICATION error but it will raise the same in he exception block.
Not sure how is this possible. Are you saying the below code is giveing different result in your db?
BEGIN
IF 1=1 THEN
RAISE_APPLICATION_ERROR(-20001, 'some message');
END IF;
END; -

There's pretty much no diagnosing those -- they are the equivalent of the random errors in Windows for which tracing the root cause is fruitless. Basically, these are the last out in the programming code -- some event occurred for which there is no handler in the code. The fix is a code update that handles the event...but, again, knowing what the event is is pretty much impossible. So, there are a few things to try:
Sometimes, the code simply becomes corrupt and needs to be refreshed -- just like a reboot:
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.

8350i uncaught exception java.lang.NullPointerException after hard reset
basic info:
8350i
v4.6.1.204 (Platform 3.0.0.73)
Desktop Manager 4.7
everything is good except that i've been using two batteries, one in the phone and one in a charger. when the phone's battery is almost drained i swap it with the charged one which of course causes a hard reset.
this procedure was working well for at least a week or two until last month when i swapped batteries - after the hard reset i got
uncaught exception: java.lang.NullPointerException
i could make calls but all other software seemed corrupted... virtually nothing else worked... icons missing etc.
tried all sorts of solutions but the only thing that fixed it was a full on device software erase/reload, then a data restore from previous backup. at the time i figured it was just a random thing and was glad to learn how to do a complete software reload.
then yesterday it happened again (again, immediately at the end of the security check after hard reset). now i'm afraid to swap batteries because it would appear that every time i hard reset there is a 10% (my guess) chance of software corruption and a complete reload takes a significant amount of time.
has anybody else noticed this? does anybody have a solution?
can i swap batteries without a hard reset; i.e. swap while plugged into power? i haven't tried this yet for fear of causing my BB harm.
any help is appreciated,
john d.

Go to Solution.Hello, John.
Make selective backup as it is described here:
http://supportforums.blackberry.com/rim/board/message?board.id=8100&view=by_date_ascending&message.i...
Backup only information that you need.
There is described the purpose of every database you can observe when you're doing the selective backup:

When you have done selective backup do the following.
On your device go to: Options - Security Options - General Settings
Open menu and select "Wipe handheld" -
Strange issue with external monitor, only working when external speakers plugged in
Hey – I am having a very strange issue with my external monitor; where it only works if my external speakers are plugged in and connected.
I am using a late 2011 Macbook pro, running Mavericks 10.9.4, along with an MBox 2 (USB Audio Interface), and two powered speakers (KRK Rokit 5). This setup has had no issues. I have just acquired an external monitor (Benq T2200HD), which I am using with a thunderbolt to VGA adaptor (a cheap non-apple adaptor).
Any information would be great – am I missing something here, or is this genuinely weird?Hello cgoldberg11
Please go to the below link to test if you are having a speaker hardware failure.
Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 7)
This will rule out hardware failure, let me know how that goes.
Thanks
