Possible to move a virtual PC from VirtualPC to Tiger on Intel Mac?

I am migrating from a G5 running Panther to an Intel Mac running Tiger. I've got VirtualPC on the G5, and a virtual machine all set up. I know there are several possible solutions for running WinXP stuff on the Intel Mac. Is there any way, other than starting from scratch, to move this virtual XP machine from the G5 to have it run on the Intel (whether with or without VirtualPC)? If not, what's the easiest way to set up a WinXP environment on my Intel Mac (I have a couple of PC-only applications I need to run)?
Mike

Let us know how you make out.
the good news is that it worked flawlessly - in about 15 minutes, my VPC .vhd file was automatically converted by "Transporter" (part of Parallels) into a valid virtual machine that ran just like it used to, on my new Mac Pro. Cool. The bad news is that it's now saying that since the "hardware" has changed, it wants me to authorize/authenticate/activate the XP installation. It says I have 3 days to do it. I see some posts on-line about converting the original VPC CD-ROM set into something that can be installed into a brand new Parallels virtual machine, but in my case, I already have one and I don't have a real PC on which to do the steps they suggest. So, I haven't quite figured out what to do about this issue yet...

Is it possible to move a freeze-frame from an imovie(9.0.2) clip to iphoto?

Yes. You will need to download and install a free app called MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5.
In iMovie, locate the video clip that contains the still you want. Right-click on the video clip and select REVEAL IN FINDER. You should see this clip highlighted in the Finder. Drag this video clip into MPEG Streamclip.
In MPEG Streamclip, move the playhead to the video frame that you want to make a still from. Click FILE/CREATE FRAME...
You can choose JPEG, TIFF, or PNG and give it a name and location.

What is the easiest way to move my iPhoto library from my macbook to my new mac pro?

Surprisingly easy! Go into the Finder, then into the Photos Library. In there, there will be a file called your iPhoto Library. It holds all your photos, essentially a special type of folder. Using an external hard drive transfer it to the same location on your new Mac. Now, when you boot iPhoto on the new Mac, it will recognise it and you'll see all your photos instantly!

  • Music library from Mini (windows formatted) to Intel Mac Book

My daughter's windows computer crashed hard the other day. She has all her music on her mini and we want to transfer the music from the mini to the Intel MacBook. I've been unable to find any software that does this transfer. There are lots that will move from a Mac formatted mini to a Mac computer, or from a Windows formatted mini to a Windows-based computer, but none that I've found that will do the transfer from Windows to Mac directly.
    Any suggestions?

  • Going from a PPC to an Intel Mac

Will OS 10.8 Mountain Lion support PPC apps (those I've been running on OS 10.3 up to 10.5.8 Leopard)? I think they will run also on OS 10.6 Snow Leopard, but can't confirm until I have an Intel Mac (needed to run OS 10.6). If OS 10.8 will not support them, will OS 10.7 Lion? I Know that 10.9 Maverick will not.

A good portion of the software you're running probably has an Intel-compatible version at this point.
That's true, except for one really important CAD app I need. My CAD app (Canvas X) was no longer upgraded for Mac starting about 2007. It has been upgraded only for Windows. I think this is about the same time that Mac completed its switch from PPC to Intel, which most likely explains the unwillingness of my CAD company to upgrade. I'm reluctant to attempt running a Windows CAD app on a Mac, using Bootcamp or Parallels.
Much better I think is to get the latest MacBook that will run OS 10.6
Try running Canvas X in Snow Leopard Server installed into Parallels for use in Mavericks.

  • HELP WITH TRANSFER FROM IBOOK G4 TO NEW INTEL MAC

    HI
I just got a new intel mac and want to transfer all my stuff from my ibook G4 ... I tried the migration assistant, I plugged in the fire wire and turned on my ibook whilst pressing the T down. I get the firewire icon on my old machine but the new one still says 'waiting for old machine to restart' It just wont do anything when it gets to that point.
I dont think I'm doing anything wrong but the thing is gettting me aggravated to say the least.
    HELP PLEASE!!

Karen can't help there but wanted to warn you.
I did the same thing--iBook G4 to intel iMac, did a "transfer all my stuff" and had problems. At least one G4 program caused my iMac to crash at start-up (it was a special anti-virus program). Also some messy things like the iMac though it was on a wireless network after the copy (like my iBook was) when it was, in fact, on a wired internet connection (it still worked but I got errors in the console log). Just messy.
Once you get your problem sorted out I'd be careful about which programs I transfered over.

  • How, if it's possible, to move an itunes library from a pc to a mac using an ipad, How, if it's possible, to move an itunes library from a pc to a mac using an ipad

I just bought a macbook pro, and im running a pc with the latest version of itunes and im needing to know if its possible to tranfser music libraries using an ipad or ipod touch.

So, what I have done so far to try to achieve this is:
I have my Windows PC with it's NTFS formatted external HDD containing the music etc.
I have my Mac with a new external HDD formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
    On the Windows PC:
    * I opened up iTunes.
    * Went into Preferences, and then under the Advanced tab I checked both 'Keep iTunes Media Folder Organised' and 'Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library', so that all the files would be in the main iTunes Media folder when I copy it over.
    * Then File, Library, Organise Library and ticked the 'Consolidate Files' so that it moves any files that aren't in the right folder.
Next I copied the files over. So I copied the updated media folder from the NTFS (Windows) external HDD onto the Mac external HDD.
And I copied the files from in My Documents/Music/iTunes on the Windows PC to User/Music on the Mac.
But this doesn't seem to have done it.

  • Possible to move Oracle binary code from one version of RHEL to another?

    Hello folks
We are stuck with a 32 bit server running Oracle 10.1.5 database as well as Oracle Application Server 10.1.x under RHEL Linux 3 AS. Due to a SAN upgrade we need to upgrade the Qlogic HBA- and mulitipath drivers but find it extremely hard to find these drivers for such an old OS, so we are forced to move to a never version of RHEL (5 ES, most likely) and maybe new hardware too.
The database and the OAS act as backends for a portal running on another server. The OAS runs OID (identity manager).
We are not worried about porting the database. But we know that the OID in the backend is somehow registered with the frontend OAS through some kind of binary ID that might have to be changed in a hundred places in the frontend. Not something you like to fool around with a dark night in a service window.
So we are looking at simply preparing a new server and move the binary code as well as data files, control files etc. from the old server into the exact same OS locations on the new server. That way, the binary IDs would be preserved.
Here my Linux skills reach their limits. I guess, Willl binary code run on another version of Linux? I guess, if the code is statically linked, it should not depend on any OS-dependent libraries, or should it? I Is Oracle statically or dynamically linked? r What if the new server has a 64 bit OS?
    Any advice or comments?
    Yours
    Claus Jacobsen/Denmark

You are right, Nicolas, it is a pity. But it is an old legacy system which will go out of production in about one year so we just need a temporary solution
I will try your solution and maybe look around for an outdated 32-bit server if no one else has anything to add? Thanks for your advice.

  • Is it possible to move ( sync ) the music from an old IPOD version 3.1.2 to ITUNES ( current version ) and then move those music files to an IPHONE 4S?

    Question:
Have an old IPOD version 3.1.2. which holds a lot of old music
The goal would be to either sync that music to ITUNES on a PC or move said music to the desired IPhone or ICloud
however the old-ness of the IPOD is requiring an update which wants to wipe out the IPOD thus losing the music.
We have backed up IPOD to ITUNES ( on a pc ) but it would be nice to sync from IPOD to ITUNES as opposed to ITUNES to IPOD
    Thanx

  • Is it possible to move a book project from one LR5 catalog to another?

I have spent days laying out a book on my laptop with low resolution jpegs in a temporary project catalog.  I wanted to export the book project in a project catalog and import it into my main catalog on my desktop to swap out the small jpegs with full sized images and then order the book.
However I have been stuck because apparently LR 5 does not export the book project with the catalog.  I was surprised after importing the project catalog into my main catalog on my desktop because the book project was not there, only the selection of images in a new default book layout.  When I open the temporary project catalog exported from my laptop, only the images were in the book, but all formatting and text pages are missing... it was essentially a default book layout.  It seems the book project does not export, even when right clicking on the book project and selecting "Export this Collection as a Catalog".
I know I can import the high res files to my laptop and complete the order, but I want the archive of the book project in my main catalog, as I will want to use it in the future, both for digital PDFs and physical book orders.
Or am I missing something entirely?  If anyone has any advice, I would love it.
I am using Lightroom 5.3 on a mac running OS 10.8.5 (both desktop and laptop)
    Thanks,
    Sol

    John,
OK, I re-exported the book project as a catalog and opened the exported catalog on my laptop to check it before transferring to my desktop.  After double clicking on the book project, it loaded properly.  What I did not know before is that you have to double click on the book project icon after importing to load it.  I was only selecting the book project in the collections panel.
Now I just need to reimport into my master catalog on my desktop… but it should work.
I have not started using smart previews, because I just upgraded to LR5 and have been busy consolidating my many separate catalogs into one master catalog and struggling with the metadata mismatches.  Once that is all cleared up, I will start working with smart previews.
    Thank you,

  • New Mac user: Is it possible to move more than one file at a time on a Mac?

I'm a new Mac user. Something so simple in Windows doesn't seem possible in Mac OS and AppleCare doesn't have a clue either. I have edited video files as well as the master footage video file in individual folders created by FCP. I need to transfer 6 video files, 20GB each, onto an external hard drive. This will need to run overnight because I'm using an external HD with only USB and it will take 10 hours or so. How do I transfer these 6 files all at once?
Note: The 6 files are in 6 different folders. I can't transfer the entire 6 folders because they contain other video files in them that I don't need to transfer and are larger than my 20 GB edited files. And last, I shouldn't have to drag these files individually to a folder on the desktop first, because that will take an hour and is a waste of time because I would have to sit there and wait for each to finish.
