Possible to physically downsize images in flash - not just by compression?

I create a lot of banner ads for my work and they vary in small and superlarge sizes with product/price info. We recently upgraded to CS 5.5. and I am now working on setting up my workflow as a project to be more efficient.
The smallest banner is 300x95 and the biggest is 980x500 - just to demonstrate the size difference. They should both have the same productinfo inside and I would love it if I could have one assetfile for all product info - including the product image - but because of the obvious banner filesize issues I can't just drop a 500px tall image into the assetfile and use this on all bannersizes because even if I scale it down in the smaller banners Flash will still export it as a 500px tall image.
Is there any way in Flash to physically downsize the file when scaling it? I haven't seen this anywhere inside Flash, so I don't think it is possible.. but maybe with an extension that I don't know about..? *hopeful*

i'm not sure what you're wishing for. if your various banners had the same aspect ratio, you could reasonably hope for a one project app that could be adapted to the various banners. but with differing aspect ratios, it doesn't seem likely that there's a consistant way to resize the assets from one banner to another.

I'm new to this forum and relatively new to working with Captivate. Hopefully there is someone here with more experience that can shed some light on a problem I'm having.
I'm creating a presentation using Captivate4 that includes animation sequences that are built in Flash. Some of these Flash movies contain imprted PNG files. The flash movies work fine. They even look fine when previewed in Captivate. However, when I try to publish the entire Captivate presentation as a SWF file I get blank red rectangles wherever the PNG files are supposed to be. I tried using JPEGs instead and I still have the exact same problem.
Any ideas?

Hmm, I may have answered my own question by looking at some other threads. It seems that changing the Publish preferences so that resources are externalize fixes the issue.

Is it possible to manage 3 units of measure (not just 2) using IS CWM

Our customer requirement is to handle the stock in 3 different units of measure.
We have read that with the EHP7 CWM (Catch Weight Management) this is possible but we are not sure if it's possible with 3 units of measure.
If not any other alternative?

CWM supports only one parallel unit of measurement as the valuation unit of measure. It however allows adding several unit of measure as in standard ERP system.

Download & Save Reader and Flash, not just installation 'pointers'

How can Adobe Reader and Flash be downloaded and saved? Reader XI is 36.1 megs, and Flash is 15.6. The Web site's Download page only allows downloading of installation 'pointer' or access files (or whatever the right term is). They're only about 970K each. I need to use a high-speed Internet connection to download and save the actual full installation files so they can be copied and then installed on machines that DON'T have high-speed connections. It's impossible to install the programs via a dial-up connection: all you get is 'cannot connect to a reliable source', after a long delay. Helpful answers only, please... no snide 'You oughta bring that computer into the 21st Century' -type remarks.

The issue here is the mapping of the interface to the service in question, and usually points to a possible mistype or rename of something within your service architecture.
You need to make sure your namespace and service name here match your service name itself.

It is. Not only images, but text and anything else,

which is

Downsized images not being recognised?

I downsize images (for facebook etc) in photoshop but the problem is that my mac then doesn't recognise that they are less than 3mb. This means that the image can't then be uploaded. What do I do? Please help

Thank you for the rapid reply.
The images are not in the Aperture Library. When I open up the package content, they are not there. I search for them using the finder search and also look in the Masters folder hierarchy at at the appropriate dates - and they are definately not there.
I would not expect them to be in the Aperture Library because at some point in the past I exported them to become referenced files. I know exacty where they are - but cannot persuade Aperture to launch the "Locate Referenced Files.." facility as it comes up with the "No Referenced Files - The selection doesn’t have any referenced files." error.
I have repaired the premissions - with no luck.
I will try and repair the database and possibly rebuld it too to see of that helps.
If all else fails - I can import the pictures again (as referenced files), but will lose all the edits.

If you have two displays attached, then the function to change from mirrored to extended Desktop will appear in System Prefs/Displays.

Render a swf object(contains an image) in navigator not possible

Hy, I have a swf object that is an image(a circle). I have tried to render it in firefox but it doesnt render anything but I have tried with other swf object(not an image, an application) and it renders it ok. So can I render a swf file that is an image or is not possible? should I extract the image in it first to render on the navigator?

Reading a little further in that page, it says:

So, I am thinking that for added security, may be it is meant to be that I can't make an imageComponent reference a file outside of the wep app folder, but I am just guessing. In which case, I will simply have to store all such files within the web app folder before attempting to access them, unless someone has a better answer.

Possible to paste images into the Note app?

Is it possible to paste an image (pdf, jpg etc) into Apple's Note app and then to view it on the iPad?
Here's the scenario:
MBP
Using Apple's Notes app
All my notes and folders are on iCloud / Nothing locally
Paste a standard small jpg image onto a note
Pasted without error as in it's there in the note and I can see it
iCloud
Starts to sync
Notes on the iPad are updated
iPad
Go to this particular note
Where the image should be is a small graphic of a paper clip
Tapping the paper clip graphic does nothing
Any help would be appreciated.
Also on my MBP the Notes are sorted by Title, but on my iPad sorted by creation date.
Really annoying as I have around 100 customer notes whose titles are the customer name.

Images and Flash Catalyst.

I have an incredibly complex and image heavy website that I am building and I want to use Catalyst to build it. If I do the dozens of images that are involved in this build make the file size of the SWF way too big and the download would literally take an hour or so. I want to know if it is possible to link the image files externally from the SWF so the site can download really fast and the images download when the pages they are on is called.
I was thinking that this type of thing would require the use of Flex to access and rebuild the code linking to the image files so they could be stored elsewhere, maybe the assests folder. If so then I can create the entire UI in Flash and have the images linked elsewhere. I thought perhaps to build the image libraries (over forty image groups spread out over 60 pages) in Flash and link it as a seperate set of SWFs but I need to know more about how this works.
Any insights would be great.

About pictures, to keep small the swf file, one solution is to store them in the 'assets' folder.
To do this : open 'bibliotheque',( beside 'calcs'), right clic over the names of the pictures and select 'link ...)
The 'assets' folder is loaded with the swf file to the server.
You can also simplify the pictures (but loss of quality) ...
In my site, all the big pictures and the videos are linked, the thumbs remain in swf file.

Issue with displaying an image in flash from a user folder

There is many discussions on how to use an image rotator with just php displayed in an html page, but that does not display in flash. Basically I am developing a flash based social network and it makes everything a little bit more complicated. I need to retrieve images from the users folder to display in their pictures section. I am hoping someone will know how to output these images in flash. To break it down...user uploads image(s)---> it goes to their folder---->system calls for it to display----->it displays in a flash movie. Thank you for any help you can give this has had me up for many nights!

Are you trying to send the e-mail with the image embedded? I did it with PHP and Phython... Never done it in ABAP, sadly to say... but I guess it should be possible. You'll need to play with the way the HTML code of the e-mail is being created, using MIME and the right headers. I'm guessing the result of WWW_GET_MIME_OBJECT will be your 'Content-ID'.
Do some google with "Send an HTML email with embedded image". Even if it's related to another programming language it might give you some clues about how to compose the e-mail and you'll be able to replicate the logic by using CL_BCS.
An alternative would be to just attach the image to the e-mail.

PIX Backup Image in Flash

Can anyone tell me the boot behavior of the PIX when it comes to recovering from a corrupt/invalid image in flash?
Example: In flash I have 2 images:
image1.bin
image2.bin
What (if possible) are my options to have 2 images and a boot sequence so it tries a specific image first. This would be useful in an upgrade situation in case the newly applied image is corrupt or for any other reason can't boot the PIX.
This may be the default behavior - I'm just looking for confirmation or more details. Do I specify it using: "boot system flash:/image1.bin" and then will it try another if "image1.bin" is not successful?

Sorry about that - I'm running v 8.0(3) on a PIX 525.
One issue I'm going to have is that the PIX only has 16MB of flash and between the ASDM and the Image itself I don't have enough room to store an alternate system boot image. Not sure if it's upgradable to 32mb+ I'll have to check. (Obviously I could always delete the asdm image and clear room for an upgrade - just thinking longer term.)
After reading the link you provided I'm still unclear on the "boot system flash:/pix803.bin" syntax. Can I enter multiple flash locations (repeat that command) or do I have to select a different location/medium? It seems the PIX525 can't boot from TFTP(?).

Image resize quality not saved in Save For Web Preset?

I have been working on an Action to create 12 separate PNG's for further use in my icon-software. What I do is basically this:
Start out with a 256x256px image, save it for web four times in steps from 256, 48, 32 and 16px, (32-bit)
apply some masks / layers, save it for web again four times from 256-16px, (8-bit)
set the mode to indexed colour / apply other masks and layers, and save it for web again from 256-16px. (4-bit)
I let the sizing be done in the Save for Web step.
The 256-sized pics give me no problem as they are not scaled down.
The 32-bit pics give me no problem as they are scaled down, and antialias comes along, but they have 8-bit transparency: no problem.
In the 8-bit and 4-bit versions from 48-16px, I definitely want no antialias in the sized down versions. So I set the resize quality to 'Nearest Neighbor'.
However, Photoshop seems not to be able to remember different resize qualities in one Action.
In every Save for Web-action that I do, when I set it to resize, it does so. But the resize quality is not taken from the setting. It seems to be taken from the last used or recorded setting.
That is pretty annoying, because:
- When I let the downscaled ones of the first 4, be downscaled 'bicubic sharper'
- And I let the downscaled ones of the second 4, and third 4, be downscaled 'nearest neighbor'
Next time I run the Action, all downscaling is done by 'nearest neigbor'. That ruins my downscaled 32-bit icons - they get jaggy.
If I alter the steps in the action manually and set the first ones to 'bicubic sharper' again, suddenly all downscaled ones are done by 'bicubic sharper'.
That ruins my downscaled 8-bit and 4-bit icons: they get antialias, to lime green, and that shows...
I can save Presets in the Save For Web dialog, but as the groupbox already tells me: these presets only apply to the Image quality parameters, not to the sizing parameters. Those seem to be taken from the last run.
I have one alternative to this: before every Save for Web step, I downsize the image myself, and undo the history step after saving. It's quite some work and I would just rather see that the sizing parameters saved in the Preset!

That's never been saved as part of the S4W presets. Bloody annoying.
