Possible to record video in flex?

Hi,
Does anyone know if it's possible to record a webcam stream
to flv or any other format?
At this point, I have a method which takes "screenshots" of
the webcam every 200 milliseconds or something but this gives a
very slacky performance.

Don't know, if this is possible...
Could one make a subclass of NetConnection, which does not
forward incoming messages to a server but saves them locally in a
variable of your app?
Just an idea...

  • Recording video in AIR

    I'm developing a desktop application in Adobe Air. I'm trying to figure out how to record video to the hard drive as a FLV file using the Camera and Video classes. I have looked everywhere in the Adobe Flash documentation for information about how to record a video, but I can't find out how to do this. Can anyone tell me how this would be done?
    There is no server in this situation; in fact, the computer the software will be running on isn't even connected to the internet. If it isn't possible to record video to the hard drive using Camera or Video classes, is there some kind of work-around I could use, keeping in mind that for this project I have full access to the client computer and can install any software I need to on it? I'm developing for a project that will be shipped to customers as a kiosk computer with all software pre-installed.

    There's no documentation for recording because it isn't supported, at least directly.
    There are a couple of ways to do it, though:
    There's this class: http://www.joristimmerman.be/wordpress/2008/12/18/flvrecorder-record-to-flv-using-air/ But it doesn't support sound and I don't think you get much, if any, compression.
    You could install a local server that can accept the video stream from AIR (which is already encoded).
    You could use the NativeProcess API to send data to a native program for encoding. There could be problems with this approach, I've heard that people have had trouble with high bandwidth applications like video encoding, but I don't know the details. Using Timmerman's method of saving bitmapdata to a file and then using passing the file name to a native program to do the encoding might work better than trying to send the video bytes over the NativeProcess link itself.
    In AIR 3, you should be able to write a native extension that lets you encode video straight from the application.

  • Android / IOS Record Video and play with it ?

    Is it possible to record video in Air 2.6 to mobile ?
    I know I can getCamera... but after it, can I record ?
    My goal is to make App that record video with the camera and push effect on it.
    Tank you!

    You can definitely record video on both and have the data at your disposal.  As far as I know you cannot select a video from the "video roll" though so you will have to edit only the video you just recorded:
    private var cameraRoll:CameraRoll = new CameraRoll();
    private var dataSource:IDataInput;
            private var eventSource:IEventDispatcher;
    vid_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, openVideo);
    private function openVideo(evt:MouseEvent):void{
    deviceCameraApp = new CameraUI();
    if( CameraUI.isSupported )
                    log( "Initializing camera..." );
                    deviceCameraApp.addEventListener( MediaEvent.COMPLETE, videoSelected );
                    deviceCameraApp.addEventListener( Event.CANCEL, captureCanceled );
                    deviceCameraApp.addEventListener( ErrorEvent.ERROR, cameraError );
                    deviceCameraApp.launch( MediaType.VIDEO );   //Changing this to IMAGE will make it take a picture
                   else
                    log( "Camera interface is not supported.");
    private function videoSelected( event:MediaEvent ):void
                log( "Media selected..." );
                var videoPromise:MediaPromise = event.data;
                dataSource = videoPromise.open();
                if( videoPromise.isAsync )
                    log( "Asynchronous media promise." );
                    eventSource = dataSource as IEventDispatcher;
                    log( eventSource );
                    eventSource.addEventListener( Event.COMPLETE, onVideoDataComplete );
    **At this point, when the onVideoDataComplete function fires, you will have access to the bytes of the movie:
    private function onVideoDataComplete(evt:Event):void
                var videoBytes:ByteArray = new ByteArray();
                dataSource.readBytes( imageBytes );
                //the rest of this is just testing what we actually read
                log(videoBytes.length);
                videoBytes.position = 0;
                var string:String = videoBytes.readUTFBytes( 300 );
                log( string );
    **You can then do whatever you want with the bytes, such as save it to your local storage directory as a .mp4 and load it into flash
    Does that help?

  • Record video to local file: possible in AIR 2.5?

    Our shop is spec'ing an application that will include recording high-quality video on a user's workstation for later upload. We thought of building in Flex and distributing as an AIR application. Before now, my research tells me, one could capture microphone sound to a local file, but video has always required NetStream.publish() to a FMS server. The other way to go was using NativeProcess to communicate e.g. to FFMPeg -- there's a devnet article about just that here: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/air/flex/articles/air_screenrecording.html
    Neither of those scenarios is a good fit to our need.
    Question: does the AIR 2.5 release make it possible to record local Camera video to a local file?
    Thanks in advance,
      Laurence

    I didn't think recording was the issue, rather encoding into something less huge than a sequence of raw bitmap captures in a reasonable amount of time. There aren't any changes in AIR 2.5 to improve that aspect.
    There is this library that claims to encode captured video into FLVs (I haven't tried it yet): http://www.joristimmerman.be/wordpress/2008/12/18/flvrecorder-record-to-flv-using-air/

  • Flex, Record video and audio using web camera to computer temp, then upload

    Hello all,
    I'm not sure if this is 100% possible and have been looking around for  some time now for an answer but couldn't find one so have come here.
    Basically I want to create a flex application that sits in a web browser, that allows people to connect using a webcam and microphone, then record a short video that gets held temporarily on the computer until they finish and then it uploads the whole video to a server.
    I am able to achieve this by using a media server and streaming the video directly from the user to the server but this hinders the quality of the videos. On poor Internet connections the quality is rubbish.
    Is it at all possible to save video files to a computers temp memory and then upload them ?
    This would mean I can record the videos at a nice high quality and not have to worry about the Internet connection tampering with the quality.
    Many Thanks in advance !

    Thanks for the reply.  I knew it was not possible to write to the C drive or the users computer at all.
    But i really wanted to know if it was possible to write to a dataArray or byteArray within flex?
    I should of mentioned this sorry.

  • I am after using my ipad for 2-3 hours to record video, it will be while traveling so I could do with being able to set it up so it just records while I drive. Is this possible?

    Hello as stated I wondered if there is an app that I could use to record a journey that I will make, it will take aprox 3 hours I can charge my ipad up as I go so battery life is not a problem and I have quite a bit of room on my I pad. Is it possible?

    Sure why not. The camera app will record videos and there are car chargers for the iPad that you can purchase. You will need some sort of stand to place the iPad into, but those are available as well. You might need to adapt the out of the box car stands to face in the direction that you want, but there are lots of them out there.
    You should set the iPad to not go to sleep in Settings>General>Auto Lock>Never until you are done recording.

    Sorry, I just realized that you have a charger.

    I want to be able to use airplay to stream audio to another iOS device, and then use that audio stream to be used when recording video instead of the built in microphone / microphone input. Is this possible?

    A third-party app probably cannot obtain a stream from another app. To the best of my knowledge, such a capability is not provided in the software development kit, apps being "sandboxed" from each other and so allowed to communicate only in very specific and limited ways.
    I'm not completely sure what you mean by "limitations on video capture". An iPhone, to the best of my knowledge, can natively record video only through it's built-in camera, and audio while doing video recording only through the built-in microphone or mic/headphone jack. There might be a video recording app that would allow audio input from an external device connected to the dock connector, but I'm not sure.
    Regards.

  • Is it possible to record an image while recording a video??

    Is it possible to record an image while recording a video??, i know it is possible when the camera is just showing.

    Ok i 'm developing an aplication for a hospital where the doctors use the system. For example a pacient goes to take an endoscopy chekup, where the doctor introduces a little camara into the pacient body to see the problem,so the system must be showing that, with this there is no problem JMF uses a Player to do that, the doctor can see what is going on and take a snapshot(image) at the same time. The problem is that when the doctor starts to record a video and at the same time wants to take some snapshot of that video recording.
    I use this line of code, but it returns null, and got this message: player doesn't support FrameGrabbingControl.
    FrameGrabbingControl cg
    cg = (FrameGrabbingControl) processor.getControl("javax.media.control.FrameGrabbingControl");

  • Is it possible to record 720p video on iPhone 4S?

    Although recording 1080p video is a great feature of the new iPhone 4S, I was wondering if it is still possible to record 720p video?
    The reasons for this are:
    1) It would save on harddrive space (as 1080p video requires more storage).
    2) I plan on doing video for web so 720p is faster to work with and less taxing on the system.
    I guess a little switch to toggle between 720p and 1080p whilst in video mode would be good.
    I've tried searching the web but no luck. I could ask SIRI but I don't think she likes me....
    Thanks in advance for your help!

    Thanks for getting back
    Feeback left.
    I guess I'll have to give Siri another chance...

  • Is it possible to record my side of a video chat?

    Just curious,
    I've tried doing a few videos with iMovie but iChat has those cool backgrounds (like the roller coaster). Is it possible to record myself from iChat or move those effects to iMovie?
    Thanks.

    I never knew about that and I did several searches for how to use the iCamera.
    Thank you much,

  • HELP: Is it possible to record from multiple video streams using iMovie?

    Is it possible to record from multiple video streams using iMovie.
    I want to record a presenter on a greenscreen and also his powerpoint slides at the same time and cut from one to other.
    Can imovie record from screen and camera at same time?
    If so is there a link to somewhere explaining how to do so?
    If not, what is the most efficient way to do so, without having to learn a whole complex program?
    Please advise asap.
    Very many thanks

    Alan and Anthony,
    Thanks for the quick responses. Unfortunately, there is no backup :(.
    I will ask if they get logged into the global zone, but one thing I forgot to mention is that this zone (as are all our non-global zones and the global zone also) are configured for ldap logins.
    Assuming that they can even try to login to the global zone, can they even see the directory structure in the non-global zone (sorry, I haven't worked with Zones much thus far) from the global zone?
    Also, if they can see the non-global zones directory structure, what should they then try?
    Also, I've been searching and I've seen some suggestions of running a "pkgcheck -af" which might restore the directory permissions to what the various packages expect. Assuming that they can get to the point that they can at least log into the zone, is that something that would work?
    I'm setting up a new test Solaris box now, with a zone, to try to reproduce the problem. If I can reproduce the problem, I'll post back whether or not I see the same thing.
    In the meantime, if anyone has any suggestions, please post them.
    Thanks,
    Jim
    P.S. In case you're wondering, the box/zone that got messed up was a test/integration zone, and they were in the process of installing some software when this chmod happened.

  • Is it possible to record a "video over" like you can record a voiceover?

    I am new to iMovie, but I've started to use it and I am impressed by how easy it is to use and how fun it can be.  I am kind of an amateur pianist and floutist, and I've recorded a video of a piano/synthesizer performance, and I was also able to record a voice over with the flute for the video performance.
    What I would like to do is record a separate video perfomance with the flute and than make a split screen video of the 2 together in sync.  It is much easier to do that if I can play along with the already recorded video of me playing the synthesizer since it is easier to keep them in sync.  I guess the other route would be to use a metronome or other timing device and then match them up after the fact, which seems a little more difficult.
    Any ideas on that.
    Thanks.
    Stephen
