Possible to rename default scratch folders?

Hi all,
We've just streamlined our directory structures at work and all is good ASIDE from FCP's scratch settings. I have a problem with the default setting of RAID>Capture Scratch>PROJECT because it makes backing up unduly difficult. All the other media is sitting in RAID>PROJECT, hence backing up is a basic one-step copy/paste procedure.
Now the obvious way around it is to remap the scratch settings every time I open a different project, like so: RAID>PROJECT>Capture Scratch. But this leaves a redundant and unnecessary folder within Capture Scratch. Is there any way to tell FCP NOT to create a project subdirectory under Capture Scratch?
And while we're on the subject, we use an uppercase, underscore only system so is it also possible to force FCP into following this protocol? I know its no big deal, but if possible it would sure save renaming the folders and reconnecting every project.

I honestly don't see the problem.
If you always select RAID in the Capture Scratch preset in FCP, then all Captured material will allways be in RAID > FINAL CUT PRO DOCUMENTS > Project_name.
As long as you give your project a name (with underscores in your case) BEFORE starting to capture, all captures will always be in that folder.
Even easier for backup is to know that all Timecode related Media is in that folder, while you can put all the other stuff (graphics etc) in your own RAID > project_name folder. You then can make the choice to only backup the latter and don't backup the videomedia and keep the cameratapes instead.

I am inheriting a big project. I appears the previous editors did not manage their media well. I am moving the project to a new computer (Intel Mac) and have therefore also had to upgrade to Studio 6.
1. Is it very bad to have tons of capture scratch folders?
It appears the prior editors would save new versions and rename each time, resulting in many different Capture Folders and Render Folders. My understanding is that it's best to have one set of Capture/Render folders per drive or partition.
2. If so, is it worth my time to reorganize the project? It'll take some doing.
If I'm correct on all the above, I think it's important to throw out there to all editors that you should not rename your project all the time. As you archive older versions (to save old sequences and keep your project file size down), RENAME THEM, not the project you will continue to work on. This will make your media much easier to manage.

Well, when you start a job, you hope that you'll be the one to finish it. Having been on both ends of this equation (getting the job taken away (or quitting) and completing a job someone else started) I understand your frustration.
As long as there are no duplicate file names for the media, you could simply copy them all to one folder and do a reconnect, however sometimes fcp will refuse to reconnect files. I've seen this happen a couple of times and I've been working in fcp since version 1. Never figured out what's going on. As long as everything was captured properly (logged and batch captured with "abort capture on dropped frames" and "create new clip on timecode break" enabled) you can always recapture if you have a problem.
My instinct is that if everything is working OK now, don't screw with it. Things could go seriously south.

In dialog box generated below,I don't want the default ok button displayed,is it possible to remove it??or is there any way to rename it and change its position by using a layout manager??

To rename buttons, try:

Hi Robin,
Just create on empty DC and copy the
web dynpro component from your previous DC.
you need to recreate model.
It will ask you to add files into DTR. say yes and your DC will be copied.
copying a model folders and wdmodelclassed from SRC folder will help you in copying model. but advisable is recreate model.

Is it possible to search for multiple folders with the same name and then select them all and change the permissions on just those folders .i.e. Search for the budget folders in all client folders and lock them down to just the project managers. Without having to go to each folder and apply the permissions.

No default search folders in Outlook 2010

Hi there,
I joined a new company and we use Exchange 2010 SP3 UR6 with Outlook 2010. All users are using Online-Mode, nothing cached. Nobody has the default search folders. I ran outlook with /cleanfinders /resetfolders, nothing.
It's not vital of course, but I'm still wondering how that can be. New and old mailboxes only have the "root" Search Folder. Left click on it does nothing (is this normal? From my memory I don't think so), right click offers to create a new one...

Your administrator can specify whether to create the standard default Search Folders when Outlook starts for the first time by using group policy. See:

This is the default behavior, we need to use right click > New Search Folder to create new search folders.

is it possible to see photos in folders on N95?
I see that the Gallery in N95 just shows all my photos in a "endless "row"
when I take photos with my Nokia N95 I like to put them into different folders to separate and sort them
its a nice way to keep kontrol over my photos.
in my Nokia 6630 I could make folder and put some picture into different folders
For example holiday photos in "england holiday" folder and car photos in another folder?

If I start making "albums" and assign my photos there it will show up nice on mye gallery. thats right
the problem is that the "album" is only a "virtual folder". that means that after 3 month of picturetaking I will have a nice system of albums but the actual folder that the pictures are in ar different.
that means I acutally need to sort and organize my pictures one second time after I transfer them to my computer...
double work.
i find it strange that Nokia that invented this nice phone dont have this sollution.

Possible to rename popup strings upon changing `Chapter` field in `Composition Marker` dialog?

I am in need to dynamically change the values inside a popup upon a user changing the value of the `Chapter` field within the `Composition Marker` dialog. I realize that we cannot add new string values to a popup at runtime, but I read a thread in this forum, and in the `Supervisor` example in the SDK, that it is possible to rename them. However, it seems like the event for making the changes to those values is triggered by a user changing values in the parameter set of the plugin itself.
So my idea is to populate a popup param with 20 strings--for example, 1, 2, 3, . . . 20. Then when a user enters in a string within the `Chapter` field in a `Composition Marker` dialog, it updates the popup list to show the user entered string. Is this possible? I know I can access the string in the `Chapter` field via javascript ExtendScript. Can I do it within C++ code?

to get the marker string you should use AEGP_GetMarkerString() with AEGP_MarkerString_CHAPTER. as for changing the popup values, by looking at the thread you pointed out, it seems it's possible to change the popup names at any time, and not during a specific code. the entire accessing of the popup data in that example was done using AEGP calls, which should not be affected by the calling time. (except for rare cases) never tried it myself. can vouch for my advice here. since popup param's amount of entries can't be changed dynamically (to the best of my knowledge), you can create 30 (or any other number) of hidden popup params, starting with 1 entry and ending with 30 entries in it, and make only the param that fits your purposes best at that moment - visible.

I renamed my picture folders and now am having iPhoto trouble

I renamed my file folders for my photos so I could recognize them easier and now I'm having trouble with iPhoto. When I double click on the thumbnail I get a "!". Is there a way to fix this?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You've committed the cardinal sin of iPhoto: Don't mess with files in the iPhoto Library folder from the Finder
Unless you can rename those folder back to what they were you'll have to start with a fresh library and import the Originals folder from the old library as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
Open the library package like this.
Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library if you have the Finder checkbox unchecked in the Events preference pane.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. Login answers, go to Settings > Administration.
Click on Manage Presentation Catalog
Select Show Hidden Items check box appears under reports list...
Select the Shared folder name, then go to _Portal*
here you find all the dashboard names
Click on rename button corresponding to the dashboard.. and rename it..

Cant move or rename images or folders from within lightroom 5.

Lightroom wont allow me to move or rename either single images or folders within lightroom. Keep getting an unknown error occurred message. All images are currently on an external hard drive. Any ideas?

Yes. All images are imported into lightroom and editable. Green light is also showing on the folders tab just the same as with my c drive. I can move/rename images and folders etc from explorer but then have to locate them for lightroom to find.

Your iCloud cannot access other accounts. You can set up the Mail app on your iPad to access other accounts just the same as on your Mac - the only issue might be with the ISP who provides your internet connection, as some services require you to be actually connected to them to send, and possibly even to receive though that would be more unusal.
If any of your other accounts provide webmail you could use that.
Otherwise you could set up forwarding on the other accounts so that messages are sent on to your iCloud account (I should set it to leave a copy on the original server) - however you cannot send using anything other than your iCloud email address as the 'From' address using iCloud outgoing server.
As to existing messages, if the account is IMAP then the messages can be accessed from any device that signs into the account; if the account is POP then received messages live on your Mac. You can copy them up to iCloud in the Mail application on your Mac by creating a new folder or folders on iCloud and then dragging the messages to these folders - hold the option key down to retain the messages on your Mac and duplicate them to iCloud. Move messages, not folders, and don't try to move a huge amount at a time. Remember that they will take up space on your iCloud account.

My guess is that OS X gets that name from the driver of that Device itself. If that is the case, then you can't rename it. This is the same problem with various MIDI devices that are displayed in Logic with the weirdest names.
However,
you can use a trick if you really want to rename a device so when you open GarageBand it says "My beloved Device". Create an Aggregate Device in the Audio MIDI utility with only that one device. The advantage is that you can rename an Aggregate Device - Voila.
