Possible to rotate iPhone video in iMovie?

I handed my phone to a friend to take a short video of her daughter and on importing found the video was rotated.
Is there a way of rotating the video to correct this in iMovie?  TIA

Yes you can.  Assuming you are using iMovie 10. see:
http://help.apple.com/imovie/mac/10.0/#mov6dae53dfd
You do it on clips after putting them in a project timeline

  • Is it possible to rotate a video clip in iphoto?  Thanks.

I recorded a video clip with the camera on it's side and once uploaded to iphoto it found that it was still on it's side and the 'rotate' button at the bottom is not lit up.  Is it possible to rotate?  Thanks, I would appreciate your help!

No.  You'll need to use Quicktime Player to rotate and export as a new file. It's explained my léonie in this topic: Movie clip rotation

  • How do I rotate Aperture videos with iMovie ?

    Hi;
I have some videos stored inside the Aperture library, which are flipped 90 degrees. When I right click on the video I want to rotate, I have the contextual menu wich says ... Modify with iMovie... (this is actually the translation since I use french version of Aperture).
Clicking on it open iMovie, then I find the video I want to rotate (quite easy..), I do it.
    and THEN ?
How do I find back into Aperture the edited video ? Should I re-import it ?
    Thanks a lot for help

Well, it seems I have no choice. I  already tried the export from iMovie to desktop, then back to Aperture and it worked fine. It is just not very convenient. (I use small video clips of golf swings, so I have sometimes to rotate 20 or mode videos).
To answer to Kirby, I tried also to make some minor changes instead of just rotating the video. Didn't work anyway.
My initial motivation was that I have seen this ...edit with iMovie.. in the contextual menu of Aperture; I expected a true user-friendly command, but it wasn't.
Thank you anyway to all the contributors. May be in a next release?

  • IPhone video to iMovie HD is distorted

When I upload video shot on my iPhone 3Gs into iMovie HD it seems the aspect ratio is distorted. It imports just fine, and audio is fine too, it's just that the ratio is too wide. People (actually all images) look fine on the iPhone, but appear shorter and wider in iMovie. Solutions anyone?

In the future, you can import directly into iMovie. If the movie is still on your phone's Camera Roll, you can still do this. Attach the phone via USB cable and if iPhoto opens, close it down. Then in iMovie, click FILE/IMPORT FROM CAMERA.
If it is in iPHoto, there should be an iPhoto Event listed among the Events in iMovie. This movie should be in there.

  • Rotating a video in imovie

I've just opened the new imovie and uploaded a few videos to work on. I can't rotate the videos like I used to be able to before. If I select the video, go to adustments you are supposed to be able to go to the crop function and rotate from there, but the crop function is greyed out and not available. Only way I can rotate the videos is to upload a clip into a new project and then rotate works fine in there. Only thing is I don't want to have to select a few seconds of video to add to my movie then rotate, select the next few seconds, then rotate etc. Why can't I rotate the whole import?

This is crazy! I started a video on my 5s in portrait and then moved to landscape and it did not adjust, so most of the video is sidways and I can't get I move to correct this.

  • Getting iphone videos to imovie?

The videos I've taken on my iphone, then transferred to my computer used to be uploaded onto imovie every time I opened imovie.  But not any longer.  They are only showing in iphoto.  Am I doing something wrong, or is this no longer possible?

I just opened imovie and they were finally there!  Yes, in the events library in iphoto videos.  The last uploaded was from september, until just now!  I have no idea what happened, but when I opened imovie this time it took a minute for the videos to be loaded into imovie, like it did in the past.  And they are all there!
    Thanks for responding!

  • Is it possible to "rotate" MP4 videos?

Is it possible using any PS Premier to rotate an MP4 video from a vertical (portrait) aspect to a horizontal (landscape) aspect?  I have both PSCC and Elements Premier.

Premiere Pro and Premiere Elements can both do this.
Just be aware that it's not a magic fix. In other words, it doesn't actually correct portrait to landscape, the way Photoshop does.
In video, you're actually adding an effect -- so, once rotated, the program will need to now re-render every frame of your video. This is a process that could very well bog down your computer and take quite a while.

  • IPhone video and iMovie

How do I move video taken on my iPhone and get it into iMovie? The video I have is currently in iPhoto.

same way you get photos into imovie from iphoto.
You can use the help feature in imovie to find these answers.
There is a media option in imovie. It will allow you to pull iphoto media into imovie.

  • Syncing iPhone video to iMovie

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knows how to sync video from my iPhone to iMovie? Anything can help. Thanks

This is not supported at the present time, which isn't a sync process. This is an import process.
As with a digital camera that supports capturing photos and videos, you can use iPhoto to import photos and videos that were captured by the iPhone. Since all iLife applications are integrated, you should be able to use iMovie to access the video in iPhoto.

  • IPhone video and iMovie - .mov format?

OK, so I have a 3GS and an iMac, and I'm trying to create an iMovie using video that I recorded on the phone. I finally was able to import the data into iPhoto and it's working fine there (showing up as .mov format), but just as a passive - I can't do anything with it in iPhoto, including play it. I want to import it to iMovie but it won't let me. What am I doing wrong and how can I fix it? Thanks!

I tried that, but when I did, it wouldn't let me open anything at all in iPhoto - it was greyed out as an option. I could move the files to my desktop and see if that works. BRB.
ETA: It seems to be generating the thumbnails now, since I moved the files to the desktop. Weird. Hopefully it'll continue to behave.
    Thanks for your help, guys!

  • Error importing iphone video to imovie

I am trying to import iphone 4 video to iPhoto on MBP but getting an error.  Is there a video minimum time?  I'm importing videos 1 at a time, videos are about 3 to 12 minutes long.  All have .mov extension.  Getting an error.  What am I not doing correctly?

I'm having a similar issue. I imported a video from my iPhone to my iMac. The preview of the video imported is perfect. Views same as on iPhone. However, when I select the clip for a "New Project" then the video is all messed up. I'd call it a cross from squished, to cropped to enlarged. Definitely not the same as what I imported and see in the original strip in the Event Window. Weird.

  • HT5899 How can I burn iPhone video to DVD to view on a TV please?

I have an iMac Mountain lion and 4S iPhone.  I have imported my iPhone video into iMovies but am unable to burn video to a DVD that will play on a TV (it will only play on a computer). Can any one help please?

iMovie is not DVD authoring software. You need to use a professional DVD authoring software like iDVD (Apple discarded it on new Macs in the past 2-3 years, if you dont have it, give another alternative AppGeeker DVD Creator here a whirl) to burn and create a playable DVD that can be played on an ordinary DVD player.

  • How to Directly Import 5d2 video into Imovie?

Is it possible to directly Import video into Imovie 09 from the 5d2 Camera?
Im always downloading first the files into the computer (50 min process) and then into iMovie (60 min)?
I want to be able to bypass this step and shave down time on my workflow.

As far as I know, MPG is not on the iMovie support video format list. In addition, according to official website, the most compatible video format for iMovie to afford is AIC MOV. Have a try to encode MPG to AIC with a powerful program. Good luck!

  • Is it possible to rotate video from the iPhone 4 90 degrees?

I'm a newbie and unfortunately shot a bunch of HD video with my iPhone 4 in a vertical format - now on playback it's rotated 90 degrees to the right. Is there any way to rotate the video 90 degrees to the left so it appears correctly on playback? I don't mind if it gets cropped, I just want to be able to see it correctly. Thanks!

i believe you can use Windows Movie Maker in Windows 7 to do this. google will be your best bet on finding instructions, though.
