Possible to save editable pdf as read only?

I need to make an editable pdf that I can send to a client. The client needs to be able to open it in Adobe Reader, make changes, save it, and then email to customers. Is there any way (in Adobe Reader) that they can make the pdf read-only after they have made their edits, so that their customers can't edit the pdf?

You can do it. They can't.
If this is something they are going to do a lot of, recommend that they purchase at least Acrobat Standard if not Pro.

  • Can you save editable pdf as read only

    I have a client who's using an editable pdf that I set up in the full version of Acrobat 8.0. They would like to edit the doc in Acrobat Reader and then do a save as and make the doc "read Only" so that their viewers can't edit the document after they have made their changes. Is this possible or am I the only one who can make it readable or not readable with the full version of Acrobat?

    You can do it. They can't.

  • Convert editable PDF to read-only when sent in an email - JavaScript

    I have a real estate company that is trying to have an application that a agent and customer can fill in the needed information, hit a submit button, have the javascript compose an email with the attached pdf.  Here's the issue I'm having: I need to be able to convert the editable pdf to a read only so when the customer receives a copy they cannot edit the information again.
    Here is my javascript code for the submit button:
    // This is the form return email. It's hardcoded
    // so that the form is always returned to the same address.
    // Change address on your form to match the code below
    // Send to buisness email
    var cToAddr = "[email protected]";
    // First, get the client CC email address
    var cCCAddr = this.getField("1st Tenant Email").value;
    if(cCCAddr != "")
    // Now get the second email only if it is filled out
    var cBenAddr = this.getField("2nd Tenant Email").value;
    if(cBenAddr != "")
    // Now get the third email only if it is filled out
    var cthirdAddr = this.getField("3rd Tenant Email").value;
    if(cthirdAddr !="")
    // Set the subject and body text for the email message
    var cSubLine = "Test - Lease Form"
    var cBody = "Thank you for submitting your form.\n" + "Save the filled form attachment for your own records"
    // Send the entire PDF as a file attachment on an email
    this.mailDoc({bUI: true, cTo: cToAddr, cCc: (cCCAddr + "; "
    + cBenAddr + "; " + cthirdAddr), cSubject: cSubLine, cMsg: cBody});

    Hi keely,
    Firstly you will need to buy a Reader Extensions license (this allows Reader to save the form data - otherwise the client will require Acrobat). Once this is done, you will then need a button (called "Lock Down" or something) that executes a script that makes all of the fields readOnly and updates a form variable (say, "locked") to indicate that the form is locked. You will also need to add a script to the initialize event that checks for the value of "locked", then executes the readOnly script (if the form needs to be locked down). An example of a readOnly script can be found on page 434 of http://www.adobe.com/go/learn_lc_scriptingReference (see "Disabling all form fields" script)
    Here is a sample form ( https://files.acrobat.com/a/preview/9df046bd-1125-4923-95de-35fc845139ca ) with a 'Lock All fields' button. Once you click this button all the forms turn 'Read only'.
    Another way to accomplish this which still requires Reader Extensions or Acrobat Pro is to use digital signatures. The people you are sending this to should have certificates set up.
    Hope this helps.

    Rave

  • Is it possible to save a pdf to a format of an earlier version of Acrobat than the one I have (i.e. Adobe 5.0 when I am running 6.0)?

    Is it possible to save a pdf to a format of an earlier version of Acrobat than the one I have (i.e. Adobe 5.0 when I am running 6.0)?

    How would I do it?  I am running Adobe Acrobat XI (version 11.0.5). I am using an external software that allows me to upload pdf files, but it asks  "Please regenerate the PDF using Acrobat 5.0 or lower"

  • Save editable pdf in Adobe Reader?

    I have made an editable pdf. I want my colleagues to fill in this pdf. But they have Adobe Reader… Is there any way (in Adobe Reader) that they can make changes, save it and then email it to customers?

    If you are talking about a form they would need to fill out, Adobe Reader XI can do that or if you have Acrobat, you can add form fields that all versions of Reader can fill out.
    If you are talking about any other type of edits, Reader cannot do that.

  • Save editable PDF

    Hi,
    I want to create an editable PDF with Acrobat 10 PRO but it's possible follow these things:
    1) I don't want distribute pdf by email or other...
    2) I need the user that open my pdf can input data into a form ad save all!!

    Have good day!

    the only way seems to distribute my pdf form, but in this way the user:
    1) view the Send Button on the top-right of the interface
    2) when save the form lose the inputs value
    Distribution way does not meet my needs..

  • Acrobat X: browser plug-in always opens PDFs as read-only

    Hi all
    I have just installed the trial of Acrobat Pro X on my Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit PC. Prior to this I uninstalled other PDF software (Acrobat 7 and Foxit Reader).
    The problem is that the setting in Acrobat preferences to NOT open PDFs in my browser as read-only seems to have no effect.
    Specifically the setting is at Edit > Preferences > Internet > Web browser options > Display in read mode by default
    Whether this is checked or unchecked, PDFs viewed in either browser on my PC (IE8 or Firefox 3) are opened in read-only mode. One very inconvenient consequence of this is that I cannot annotate PDFs in my browser.
    I tried running Acrobat as administrator and changing the setting, but this similarly had no effect.
    I expect I will be met by a wall of silence if I attempt to get help about this from Adobe as a lowly trial user -- but it's crucial to deciding whether I want to buy the upgrade to Acrobat X. Can anyone reproduce the issue?
    Thanks...

    That option is nothing to do with the PDF being editable, it's to control the display of the toolbars. "Reading Mode" is when the toolbars are hidden and the black head-up display navigation bar appears at the bottom of the screen.
    PDFs displayed within a web browser with Acrobat/Reader X are not editable, nor can you apply markups, unless you're within a browser-based-review workflow. You have to save a copy locally and open it in desktop mode to make any changes.

  • Adobe reader wont let me highlight, and opens pdf in read only mode, why?

    I need help with highlighting pdf, and tke it out of read only mode . When i go to the text edit thing it say "To modefy this document save a copy on device" Its already on my device, so why does it say that? I was able to highlight this pdf before. Was there a recent update that diabled highlighting ?

    What is your operating system?  Reader version?  Are these PDFs writable or read-only on your device?

  • Distributing .pdf as Reader only (can't be opened in Acrobat)

    Q1)  Is there a setting that lets me save my .pdf so that it can only be opened in Reader. Right now, if a user has Acrobat on their PC the .pdf opens in Acrobat. I want it to always open in Reader.
    Q2)  Can an older version of Reader (let's say 5.0) open a document that was created in a newer version of Acrobat (let's say 9.0)? If not, does a message display instructing the user to download the latest Reader version?
    Thx
    Jan

    1) Not possible.
    2) Depends on the PDF version.

  • Unable to save edited pdf.

    After editing a pdf file, it wont save with the same name - says document is read-only or another user has it open (both not true).  After saving to another name, I delete the first file.  It appears to go away, but when I refresh the screen, it comes back.  Using Acrobat XI (11.0.06) on Windows 7 Pro.

    Thanks! I tried that and tested and it worked!  Such a simple solution to a frustrating problem!  Thank you again!

  • Mail attachments won't save - saying folders are Read Only

    Every time I try save an attachement, mail pops up saying this location is read-only,
    Any help?

    I still can't fix this issue.
    This is what happens when I try to create a new folder in the target folder that I want to save my attachments too. The target folder has Read & Write access for everyone.
    I've tried:
    Accessing Repair Utilities and typed in resetpassword
    Resetting the permissions on my computer
    Relaunch Finder
    But so far nothing works and I still get the Read Only error message when trying to create a new folder to save my attachments.
    UPDATE:
    I've used these steps by Linc Davis, who is like a savior for everything Mac!
    The thread to this problem can be found here - https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4925516?start=0&tstart=0
    Now my email is back to normal!

  • Save filled form as read only

    I have created a form that will be filled in  and saved with the new input.  Once saved, the filled form will be emailed to other people. Is there a way to save this as read only? Or a setting that makes sure whoever opening the email cannot still edit the form?

    You cannot really prevent it from being changed you can just make it harder. The easiest way to to flatten the file. It will remove all fields, but retain the entries as if they were in the original file. It will also flatten annotations. You can find the flatten command in the Preflight dialog box. There are javascripts around the net that can put the command on your toolbar.

  • How is possible to save a pdf document from a email to the memory of my Nokia 520?

    I installed Adobe Reader to read the pdf documents present in the memory of my Nokia Lumia 520 and those arrive by email.
    Particulary important for is to save, the pdf that arrive by email, in the memory of my phone but I didn't understand how it is possible.
    Someone can help me?
    Thank you
    Mauro

    Now it's impossible to save PDF files to memory or SD card because Windows Phone 8 simply doesn't allow this action for 3d party apps.
    That's why all available readers can't do it.

    Ok here you go:
    Bean code (put this bean in session or page flow scope): package demo.clickenable;
    import javax.faces.event.ActionEvent;
    import oracle.adf.view.rich.component.rich.input.RichInputText;
    public class ClickEnableBean
        Boolean enable = Boolean.TRUE;
        public ClickEnableBean()
        public void setEnable(Boolean aEnable)
            this.enable = aEnable;
        public Boolean getEnable()
            return enable;
        public void flipEnable(ActionEvent actionEvent)
            if (getEnable().booleanValue())
                setEnable(Boolean.FALSE);
            else
                setEnable(Boolean.TRUE);
    }JSPX page:<?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8'?>
    <jsp:root xmlns:jsp="http://java.sun.com/JSP/Page" version="2.1"
              xmlns:f="http://java.sun.com/jsf/core" xmlns:h="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html"
              xmlns:af="http://xmlns.oracle.com/adf/faces/rich">
      <jsp:directive.page contentType="text/html;charset=UTF-8"/>
      <f:view>
        <af:document>
          <af:form>
            <af:panelGroupLayout layout="vertical">
              <af:panelGroupLayout partialTriggers="bte">
                <af:inputText label="Label 1" disabled="#{ClickEnable.enable}"/>
                <af:inputText label="Label 2" disabled="#{ClickEnable.enable}"/>
                <af:inputText label="Label 3" disabled="#{ClickEnable.enable}"/>
              </af:panelGroupLayout>
              <af:panelGroupLayout>
                <af:commandButton text="#{ClickEnable.enable ? 'Click to enable' : ' Click to disable'}" actionListener="#{ClickEnable.flipEnable}"
                                  id="bte" partialSubmit="true" partialTriggers="bte"/>
              </af:panelGroupLayout>
            </af:panelGroupLayout>
          </af:form>
        </af:document>
      </f:view>
    </jsp:root>The real work is done by a partial trigger on the button (id=bte). This trigger is used to update the panelGroupLayout holding the input text fields which are enabled/disabled via the boolean value of the bean. Each click on the button toggles the boolean value and updates the page.

  • "Save As PDF" in Safari only Results in "Error While Printing"

    Hi, first time poster. I searched through the forum and didn't find anything like my problem specifically on topic. I still Hope this isn't being redundant with anything else that has been posted.
    Problem:
    When I go to Print->Save as PDF the normal dialogue comes up without a problem. Its when I click on the save button that I an error saying "Error While Printing" pops up. Pulling up the console nets me with the following:

    *What I've Tried*
    I haven't had any luck with the solutions others have posted online (like Little Snitch being a culprit) when I've searched for either the "Save As PDF", "Error While Printing", or the console log error. I've run the printer reset function in system preferences and I've never had any printer installed on the system.
    I should note that prior to any of these problems with Safari, I installed the Firefox 3 RC1. I've since uninstalled it, because I was suspicious of it having an effect (being a little buggy as an RC). Removing it with AppCleaner hasn't changed the problem.
    Thanks all,
    -d

    I could print/save as .pdf until I did my latest software upgrade. Now I get "error while printing", and have been unable to find a solution. this is quite a problem for me, because I do a lot of research on the Web and have saved my results for years in pdf. Have you found a solution?
