Possible to Set iCal Calendar as Desktop Background?

Can it be done? Is there some clever plug-in somewhere that makes it possible? Thanks for your help.

  • Can't set web photo as desktop background

    Hi everyone,
I've had my pro for 4 years now, and I used to be able to use any web engine (normally I use google chrome and firefox) and click on a photo on the web and have the option to make it my desktop background. For whatever reason, that option is now gone and if I want to make the picture my background I have to download it, save it on my desktop then right click and set that way. Does anyone have any ideas why this might be or if I accidentally clicked a setting that I can revert to?
    Thanks all,
    Meg

    Hi Meg,
I have Safari 7.0.5 on my MacBook Pro and that option is still there if I right-click an image:
I also tried FireFox v30 and a similar option is available in the contextual menu just as in Safari. I don't use Chrome so can't check that one.
If you are using extensions, try turning them off, restarting the browser, and seeing if that function reappears.

  • Unable to set iPhoto album as desktop background.

For a long time I had an iPhoto album as my desktop background, set to change pictures every minute.  I switched the background recently, and now when I open up system preferences to try to change it back to the iPhoto album, none of my iPhoto albums show up in the Desktop & Screen Saver pane.  There is a section called "Apple" with a drop-down arrow, then the iPhoto section which used to but doesn't currently have a drop-down arrow that would let you see all of your iPhoto albums, and a "Folders" section where you can add folders from your computer.

  • How do I extract a theme background and set it as the desktop background?

    Hi
I want to have the industrial theme background as the desktop background.
I have tried unpacking the keynote application but end up with Industrial_1920x1080.kth
How do I convert a kth file into a recognisable graphics file?
    Thanks
    AJ

If you mean that you want to use the Moroccan background in Pages, yes the same principle applies. the Keynote "package" is simply the Keynote application -- Control-Click on the Keynote icon in the Finder, then choose "Show Package Contents" from the pop-up menu. In the new Finder window that appears, follow the directions as outlined above. Be careful not to move or delete any files in the package.

  • How do I save iCal calendar as desktop image?

I remember a very old program preinstalled on Macintosh Performas called Expresso, that had a terrific feature allowing your monthly calendar to be automatically saved as your desktop picture. I have been unable to find a program that duplicates this feature. I've tried creating an Automator project that creates a jpg file that could be used as a desktop picture, but it doesn't seem to work, and keeps "encountering an error". I'm not sure it I'm doing it right. Here are the steps I have recorded:
-- Click “iCal” in the Dock.
    -- Click the “File” menu.
    -- Print…
    -- Click the “Continue” button.
    -- Click the “Preview” button.
    -- Click the “File” menu.
    -- Save As…
-- Make a selection from the popupbutton.
    -- JPEG
    -- Click the “Save” button.
    -- Click the “Preview” menu.
    -- Quit Preview
    -- Click the “iCal” menu.
    -- Quit iCal
Does anyone have any ideas how to create such an automated project, or even better does anyone know how to automatically save a monthly calendar to the desktop without going through all this trouble?
    Many thanks.

Make your calendar display full screen. Shift-command-3 to save a screenshot on the Desktop (it will be PictureN.png, where N depends on what is there already). System Preferences/Desktop & Screen Saver. Choose the Desktop tab and click + under the list at the left and browse to the desktop. Select you PictureN and choose Fit to Screen.

  • A possible fix for iCal calendars not syncing with "iDevices"

    Hi everyone,
I had this problem in the past with my iPod and suddenly the same is happening to my iPhone: Calendars are no longer syncing to my "iDevices". This started with 10.5 for me, but ymmv.
There are lots of  Discussions suggesting to export all calendars, delete and then re-import. Resetting the Sync History in iSync's Preferences is mentioned all the time.
I tried all that, but it never worked for me. Sometimes the calendars list in iTunes just went empty and other times it didn't show all my calendars or only very old, long deleted ones. Since the behaviour is the same with my iPod and my iPhone I could at least rule out a problem there.
But today I finally discovered the culprit:
I am sharing my calendars via icalx.com and it turns out that sometimes iCal simply "forgets" the URL I have set there and reverted back to .Mac which I don't use. Reverting all the URLs to the correct values solved the problem immediately. All calendars do sync perfectly again now!
So if you're having the same problems it might be a good idea to check the URLs of all those shared (and subscribed?) calendars in iCal...
    Have fun!
    Björn
PS: It may have nothing to do with it, but I also deleted the Birthday Calendar during the process and re-added it via iCal's Preferences.

  • Is it possible to create a custom, linking desktop background?

Hey everyone. I have a computer running Windows 7 connected to my TV as a media center. Since I only use the computer to run the internet or Plex Media Center, I'm trying to create a clean looking desktop with large links to each program and nothing else.
I've tried increasing the size of the default shortcut links, and that works to a point, but I would like something with a little more customization. I realize that Active Desktop is gone with 7, so if anyone has any idea of a way to make this possible, please
    let me know.
Here is a link to the image of what I would (ideally) end up with: mslewiswrites.com/images/wallpaper.jpg.
The two areas on the right that are bordered in lighter blue would be the links (the entire rectangles), with the rest just being a plain image background.
Any help is appreciated. I'm willing to install third-party software as needed, providing it isn't resource hungry.
    Thanks!

  • Is it possible to recover iCal calendars from disk image of hard drive?

Hi, I made and saved a disk image of intel imac hard-drive with a g4 imac running leo. I now want to recover the info contained on iCal in my account on that disk image. Is it possible without restoring that disk image on to an intel imac?
I wanted a clean install on the new imac for reasons that are valid, and some that I'm not quite sure were valid reasons such as security, since I don't know what is on the net that can or cannot compromise security either through website visits or email.

Yes it is, and with the links provided below in the "More Like This" you'll be able to get the right info.

  • Ical on desktop background

Is there anyway to set ical on the desktop background?

    Hi,
Here is one way to get your calendar on the desktop:
Step 1: File > Print > Save as PDF (I saved it on the desktop, for easy finding in the next step)
Step 2: Open the PDF with Preview, then File > Save As and save it as a jpeg wherever you want (in /Library/Desktop Pictures if it needs to be accessible to all user accounts).
Then just select in System Preferences. The only negative, really, is that keeping it up to date on the display means re-doing the process whenever events are added or changed.

  • Two shared ical calendars on one webpage - possible?

  • Video Desktop Background or Screensaver?

    Hello,
Can I put a video (such as something from iMovie) and set it as a desktop background, and just loop the video? Is this also achievable as a screensaver? There is a widget that will make your screensaver as a desktop background, so either option would get the job done.
    Thanks.
    C h r i s t o p h

I think it is possible, but VERY tricky.
First, you would have to find a screensaver online that is a video (it would have to contain a ".qtz" animation), then you would replace the .qtz animation with a file YOU create, and convert to .qtz (which I'm not sure can be done). Apart from that, there is no other way that I know of.
    Good luck!

  • Restore desktop background

A few months ago as I was browsing the web, I found a picture of one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. Unfortunately it was just a pic with no caption to ID the location. I set it as my desktop background with the intent of eventually finding where it was and visiting there. This morning at the end of an 11 hour shift, I went to set a screen saver, and accidentally changed my desktop background. Since that pic isn't a default mac background, and I didn't physically save it anywhere, I don't know how to restore it. I spent about 40 minutes browsing images on the web again, with no luck. I checked the default location for desktop images and as expected, there are just the usual images. Any help would  be greatly appreciated.

If you selected the image in Safari and then right clicked on Use Image as Desktop Picture and then changed to another it appears it is gone since I just tried it and then tried to search for the name of the picture and it was not found.
Does this mean that the image is being loaded from the web? That seems kind of unworkable: does the image go away if you are not connected to the Internet? And if it doesn't it must be stored somewhere. But if it is, apparently hidden?

  • Image distortion via Change Desktop Background?

A couple of months ago, I was searching through my iPhoto gallery looking for a picture to set as my "new" desktop background. As I changed from one background to another, the over-all display from my MBPR (MacBook Pro Retina) exhibited distortion. I do not know how to explain the effect any further, but I went to my nearest Apple Store yesterday, and I was told by a genius that it may simply be a bug. He also ran several tests on my MBPR and found nothing out of the ordinary.. Has anyone else experienced this phenomenon?

    Hello
What kind of image file you want to set as background? As far as I know not all picture formats work as desktop background.
You should try it with a JPEG picture. Such pictures always work properly.
Otherwise you must ask on a Microsoft forum. Here we can talk about Toshiba notebooks.

Is it possible to make a video a desktop background? If so, how? If not, it should be (hint hint).

There should be more to find on MacUpdate.

  • When I try to change my desktop background nothing happens

When I find a new image on the internet, for example with google images, and I attempt to change it to be the desktop background nothing happens. I attempted to save the file to the desktop or downloads and then set it to be the desktop background but again nothing happens. This has happened to me a couple of times and I am not sure what is causing it. When I restart the laptop the new background is set but this is really getting annoying.

No problem using PC terms with me. Most of my computer are Windows PCs. I'm fully versed on both platforms.
Well you are setting it to the desktop background. "Sorry" all you need to do is reboot to make it active.
Never done that and have no desire to try it. But I would think that if you Right Clicked (two finger click or control left click) on the image, selected Save As and saved it in the folder I pointed to in my other post or to any folder on your hard drive and then went to Sys Pref, Desktop & Screen Saver and selected that image, whether in the default desktop pictures folder or in another folder on your drive, it would change right then and there without a reboot.
Doing it from Safari makes you reboot to have it displayed.
