Possible to start or send commands to an app from a dock button

Hi,
I was looking into the MFi-program, but before that I was interested in if it is theoretically possible to do this:
Start an ipad-app initiated from a dock-button (e.g. Skype) and then send commands to the app depending on other input from the dock? All over Apple Accessory Protocol.
Best regards
/Magnus

Hi vernel,
Welcome to the Support Communities!
First, I recommend restarting your phone and then resetting if it's still not working:
Restarting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Note: Reset your device only if you are unable to restart it.
Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

    Receiving message  "your Mac OSX start up disc has no more space available for application memory."
    This has just started in past week, I removed about 6 apps from dock to see if it cleared it but message still appears.  Mac is iMac 5 with Mountain Lion (10.8.4)
    Would appreciate some help.

    The message has nothing to do with available disk space. There is excessive swapping of data between physical memory and virtual memory.
    That can happen for two reasons:
    You have a long-running process with a memory leak (i.e., a bug), or
    You don't have enough memory installed for your usage pattern.
    Tracking down a memory leak can be difficult, and it may come down to a process of elimination.
    In the Activity Monitor application, select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected. Click the heading of the  Real Mem column in the process table twice to sort the table with the highest value at the top. If you don't see that column, select
    View ▹ Columns ▹ Real Memory
    from the menu bar.
    If one process (excluding "kernel_task") is using much more memory than all the others, that could be an indication of a leak. A better indication would be a process that continually grabs more and more real memory over time without ever releasing it. Here is an example of how it's done.
    The process named "Safari Web Content" renders web pages for Safari and other applications. It uses a lot of memory and may leak if certain Safari extensions or third-party web plugins are installed. Consider it a prime suspect.
    If you don't have an obvious memory leak, your options are to install more memory (if possible) or to run fewer programs simultaneously.
    The next suggestion is only for users familiar with the shell. For a more precise, but potentially misleading, test, run the following command:
    sudo leaks -nocontext -nostacks process | grep total
    where process is the name of a process you suspect of leaking memory. Almost every process will leak some memory; the question is how much, and especially how much the leak increases with time. I can’t be more specific. See the leaks(1) man page and the Apple developer documentation for details.

    Hi,
    No it is not currently possible, In Windows 10 a new business portal will be introduced that should solve this.

  • Is it possible to start a sending file adapter by using a mapping lookup fu

    Our Scenario:
    1) SAP ERP generates a file and an IDOC with information about
        (path/filename and receiver system)
    2) XI takes this IDOC and should collect the file from SAP FTP
    3) Depending on the information XI should send the file to the correct receiver
    Best regards

    Hi Daniel,
    ftp adapter cannot work in sync mode (cannot take a specific file)
    in one of your requirements like that we created
    a java proxy to handle that (asynchonous)
    it fetches the file and sends it to the XI
    BTW
    if you have IDOC with filename and if you can use a
    proxy then you won't even have to use a BPM for that

  • Cannot control/observe but can send commands and update apps

    I've researched the discussions here and basically came up with several ways of fixing the problem. Also I see I am not the only one with this particular problem.
    Ok with that said, here are the details.
    I am running a G5 behind a linksys wireless router (g5 is hard wired to the ethernet port of the router), my router is set up to open ports 5900 and 3283 just for ARD 2.0. The ports are pointing to my mac's IP address given by the router. I currently use optimum online for my internet usage, so basically I have a static IP address. From work I can access my G5, control/observe, update, etc...
    I also have set up ARD on my mothers imac, she sits behind a verizon dsl modem, and an old netgear router I used at one point. I have the router set up the same way, ports 5900 and 3283 are opened up for tcp and udp. From her machine I can actually connect to my G5 at home and control/observe, etc..
    My main problem is when I am on the G5 and try to connect to her machine, I can only send messages, update software but cannot visually observe or control her mac. I've gone and had her change the tcp port to 10000 and no luck with control or observe. I then had her delete ARD with an application I found over the net (appdelete). I had her install ARD client and set it up from scratch again. Nothing... I have spoken with verizon IT and they aren't blocking any ports. I am at my wits end, can't figure this one out. OH, I also tried disconnecting the router and had my mother connect the dsl modem straight to the imac and still cannot control or observe. Within ARD It tells me what program she is running, etc... because of port 3283 but that's about it. I know everyone here has given alot of information. But is there something I am missing?
    Could it be a hardware issue (mac or router)? or software?

    I've tested timbuktu pro 8.6 and I can access my G5 at home the same way as ARD, I just had to open up the port 5901 and set up the user prefs. My only issue is going to be setting up my mothers imac with timbuktu. crossing my fingers to see if it works tonight. If there are any other thoughts out there please feel free to tell me.

  • Is it possible to prevent Windows Phone 8 users downloading apps from the Store unless thay have been "approved" for installation?

    We are currently migrating our mobile workforce from BB and iPad to Windows Phone 8 and will use Windows Intune to "manage" them. Is it possible to prevent these devices from being able to download / install apps that are NOT approved?
    We would publish "approved" apps on the Company Portal where necessary
    There will be no user-owned devices so there is no issue with rigid enforcement - we wish to stop games etc from being installed / propagated across the estate, which is a huge issue with the current devices
    Thanks

    This feature will be included with the Enterprise Feature pack (no I don't know when it will be released unfortunately)

  • Sending Commands to Comp from Phone through Mail Problem

    okay so I want to be able to send commands to my computer from my phone. the best way I found to do this is via mail. so I would say send a email saying "weather Madison Wi" then it would recieve the email and send me the result. Problem is when i run the code it only pauses itunes then does nothing else. idk why. heres my code any help would be appreciated:
    on performmailaction(info)
    -- see if iTunes is playing
    set itunes_playing to false
    tell application "System Events"
    if (get name of every process) does not contain "iTunes" then
    set itunes_playing to false
    else
    tell application "iTunes"
    if player state is playing then set itunes_playing to true
    end tell
    end if
    end tell
    -- pause iTunes if needed
    if itunes_playing is true then tell application "iTunes" to pause
    tell application "Mail"
    set the_messages to |SelectedMessages| of info
    repeat with a_message in the_messages
    set the_sender to extract name from sender of a_message
    set the_subject to extract name from subject of a_message
    set the_content to extract name from content of a_message
    if (junk mail status of a_message) is not true then
    say "Mail from " & the_sender
    if the_sender is "My Name here" then
    if the_content contains "weather" then
    get the second word of the_content
    set s to the result
    get the third word of the_content
    set c to the result
    set temp to get_temp(s, c)
    set theNewMessage to make new outgoing message with properties {subject:"Weather", content:"Current temp is : " & temp & " in " & c & "," & s, visible:true}
    tell theNewMessage
    make new to recipient at end of to recipients with properties {address:"my sms number"}
    send
    end tell
    end if
    else
    set theNewMessage to make new outgoing message with properties {subject:"New Mail", content:"New Mail From: " & the_sender, visible:true}
    tell theNewMessage
    make new to recipient at end of to recipients with properties {address:"[email protected]"}
    send
    end tell
    end if
    end if
    end repeat
    end tell
    -- resume iTunes if it was playing before
    if itunes_playing is true then tell application "iTunes" to play
    end performmailaction
    on get_temp(stat, cit)
    tell application "Safari"
    activate
    set state to stat
    set town to cit
    set URL of document 1 to "http://www.findlocalweather.com/forecast/" & state & "/" & town & ".html"
    set page to text of document 1 as string
    set pos to offset of "Temp:   " in page
    set final_pos to the offset of "°F" in page
    set pos to pos + 8
    set temp to characters pos thru (final_pos - 1) of page as string
    quit
    return temp
    end tell
    end get_temp

    I'm not sure why you think you need to pause iTunes as part of the script, but I'll leave that for now.
    The problem may be that Mail.app cannot send a new message while it's processing a rule via AppleScript. There are numerous discussions about this, both here and elsewhere, so it may well be that there's nothing wrong with your script, it's just how it is. Take a look at this thread for some suggestions.

    As far you are using VirtualBox, your processor capabilities shouldn't counted (min from my own experience while setting up the virtual machine. Change the Domain Type under configuation node to XEN PVM and try again. Most probably the virtual machine will start running.
    One more thing, enable promiscuous mode -> Allow allow with your network configuration (if bridged network is in use) for the VM Server prior you try to SSH into the virtual machine (your guest on VM Server)
    All the best and post your test results

  • Sending commands through Telnet - possible to get return code?

    I have gotten a little program working that will telnet to another server and run commands using Jakarta Commons net (which underneath it all uses a socket). I was wondering if I run a perl script remotely on the other machine, and the perl script returns a code (0, 1, etc) , is it possible to capture that return code? So far it is just sending commands back and forth through text...

    Write yourself a script that invokes those commands and either echo's the exit code to the command line or saves the exit codes to a file.

  • Is it possible to start an application with parameters

    Hello together,
    I have written an application which is stored on a network. People from different computer start it to work with it. Now I have the problem, that I need some different configurations on each computer.
    Is it possible to start a labview application with parameters, like: application.exe -User_1
    The application should check the parametes and should switch to the needed configuration.
    Thanks a lot and best regards,
    Michael
    Solved!

    Hi Michael,
    yes it is possible. First you have to activate the data transfer of your parameters. You can do it in the application builder. It is something like "send command line parameters to exe" which you have to activate. You will get the parameter in your program with the property "App.Args". It is an array with the exe name as the first element and one entry for each additional linked parameter.
    Hope it helps.

  • Urgent Help Needed: Sending email starts to send, then freezes computer.

    When I click mail icon in Safari, mail window opens OK.
    Shows messages from both Mac Mail and main server webmail accounts.
    Sending an email starts the small cogwheel rotating showing it has started to send, but then it freezes mail and whole screen/computer.
    Have to shut down and reboot computer.
    Anyone have any ideas what's causing this and how to fix it?
    Recently downloaded Yahoo Widgets V.4 and problems started after that; including knocking out access to iPhoto library. Luckily the library was backed up. Currently awaiting Yahoo's answer on how to uninstall all elements of YWV4. Last time uninstalled YWV4 the mail problems continued anyway.
    Unfortunately I don't have Apple Care and main webmail server thinks it's a Mac issue.

    Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
    From what you've posted, it sounds as if you've skipped one critical step. Before initiating the send on the other device, you must instruct the receiving BB to accept the file send request. See this KB:
    KB05409 Transfer a file using Bluetooth technology between two BlackBerry smartphones
    While the KB talks about transferring between two BB's, the process is the same if the sending device is something else. You must, on the receiving BB, execute the "Receive Using BT" command before you start the send process on the sending device.
    Hope that helps!

  • Is it possible to start a windows driver without adm rights?

    I have a situation in which I have a driver, a DLL and one application which loads the DLL, all programmed by me. A second application also opens the DLL but its 3rd party software so I have no control over their code.
    Both applications have to share the handles to the same object of the driver. So I have to instantiate the driver in the DLL, and duplicate the handles so that when the apps open the DLL they share handles to the same driver object. The problem comes on
    starting and stopping the driver, because I need administrator rights to do that and my handle duplication then fails. I have tried changing the security to PROCESS_DUP_HANDLE and it failed anyway. It seems that a process with normal user rights cant duplicate
    handles from a process with administrator rights. Can it?
    I can require adm rights on my app, but the client would need to open the 3rd party app by right clicking and selecting to open it with adm rights, which is no elegant solution.
    So I am thinking about different ways to deal with this situation. Is it possible to start the driver without adm rights? I heard that with named shared memory I wouldnt need to duplicate the handles, however I tried it and it did not work. What other ways
    could I deal with this?
    Thanks guys!

    In the AddService section of the driver INF file it is possible to set the security of the driver loading...
    This will let all users with any rights load and unload the driver for example:
    Security = "D:(A;OICI;GA;;;WD)"
    Then install the driver with the inf file e.g.:
    netcfg -l "path_to_inf" -c class -i ID
    Then when you try to load the driver with:
    net start driver_name
    Or
    sc start driver_name
    It will be loaded even if the command prompt is not with adm privilages.

  • Help on K700i- OK/Send Command Problem...

    Hi guys,
    I need your help with SE K700i I developed a midlet that can send SMS.
    It works well with other phones but in SE K700i when i execute the SEND Command it doesn't do anything and sometimes when I used the BACK command and returned to SEND Command it will send/response...
    I tried a lot to solve this problem but I don't know if it's a bug or maybe the code is wrong...By the way this is some parts of the codes.
    static final Command sendMsgCommand = new Command("SEND",Command.OK,2);
    public void commandAction(Command c, Displayable d) {
              // TODO Auto-generated method stub
              if(c==exitCommand){
                   notifyDestroyed();
                   started=false;
              }else if(c==sendMsgCommand){
                   new Thread(this).start();
                    } else if(c==backCommand){
                  display.setCurrent(itemMenu);
              }Thanks in advance...
    Regards,
    Psyeu

    Yes i have tested it on real K700i and also on other devices like nokia 6101, P910i the midlet works fine with that devices...
    When I implemented alert for the OK command it seems no problem...and for SEND command to send message it works fine...
    I think the problem is the defaulted OK command after selecting contacts in the local phone book when implemented like SEND command it didn't respond and also the SEND command is also affected- it didn't response sometimes.
