Possible to Swap Dual 1.25 Processors for Dual 1.42?

I have to replace my processors and perhaps the logic board of my original Dual 1.25 Ghz MDD Mac.
Does anyone know if the [FW800] 1.42 Ghz processors are compatible with the 1.25 model that preceded it by 5 or so months? Additionally, would the logic board work within the MDD mac?
Thanks,
C
Dual 1.25 Ghz MDD Powermac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Based on some net research, mostly on the xlr8yourmac site, I found that the swap has been done by several Mac users with dual 1.25 GHz MDD G4s. The mods were made over a year or more ago and there weren't any follow-up qualifiers, so they apparently were good upgrades.
So, if you have to replace the dual 1.25 MHz processors anyway, going to the dual 1.42 GHz processors is a workable swap. However, the upgraders noted that the performance gain was modest, so doing it for performance alone probably isn't cost justified.
The information I found did not include any mention of logic board swaps and did not specify whether or not the processor swap affected the ability to boot into OS 9. I don't think it is likely the boot encoding in locked into the processors based on personally upgrading several processors on old Macs over the years.
Good luck with your processor swap.

How its' possible to change from 32 bit to 64 bit Processor for MacMini? Mini?

You probably have a Core Solo or Core Duo model. You can upgrade the CPU to a 64-bit Core 2 Duo in the T7200-T7600 family.
iFixit and OWC provide easy-to-follow, step-by-step guides. It's a delicate procedure, but not overly difficult. I'm all thumbs, and I have done it twice.

If the MBP came with Lion, it most likely won't boot with SL. Easiest thing to do is create a bootable backup/clone of each to an ext HD, partitioned to hold each on a separate volume, ensure that the original machines can boot with their respective clones, and finally, try booting the other machine with the other clone. Images are useless since you can't boot with them to test them out.

  • Best option for a word processor for the G3 dual usb running Panther

More and more I am coming to rely on my G3 for word processing tasks - particularly research notes and a personal journal.
So far I've tried the simple text editor (quick but poor text on-screen), OpenOffice (being xwindow it's slow to load and slow to update screen) and AppleWorks (good display but no spell checker) -each have problems for me.
What is the best word processor for the G3 running Panther (or Classic/9 for that matter). I need: Quick to load/run, readable text, automatic word wrap, spell checking and a reasonable path to exchange files with my desktop Linux system.

AppleWorks does have a spellchecker; it just is not automatic (check-as-you-type).
In AppleWorks, go to Edit menu > Writing Tools > Check Document Spelling.
I've never used anything (in a major way) except AppleWorks.
A couple of options which you haven't mentioned are Pages in _iWork '06_ (or earlier; the current version has left behind G3 processors) and _Microsoft Office for Mac_.
I'm unsure of how well any of these will integrate with Linux. Open Office may be your best bet there. (I'm just guessing. It seems like common sense to me that Open Office would work with an open OS like Linux.)
Another application which is creating a buzz and sounds like it could work for you is _Google Docs_. There would certainly be no problem with Linux integration there. It looks like it would be easy sharing all the way around and you shouldn't find any incompatibilities as long as you have a decently up-to-date browser.
I'm not sure anyone has developed the "perfect" word processor, but there are some good ones out there. Good luck on your quest.

  • Is it possible to upgrade G62-361TX Notebook Processor and RAM?

    Hi Everyone,
I have a question regarding UPGRADE!
    I am having G62-361TX model notebook, Processor of Core i3-370M, 3GB RAM (1 X 1GB & 2 X 2GB), 1GB ATI Mobility Rageon Premium Graphics Card, Windows 7 x64.
    1. Is is possible to upgrade from Core i3-370M to core i5-470?
    2. Is is possible to add 4BG of RAM on one slot and existing 2GB on the other slot?
If yes, then will it be giving any problem like over heating, etc., Have the G62-361TX is been desinged to withstand heavier computing if upgraded?
    Thanks in advance!

Q2: I think so. The service guide says that it's possible for model 1.1 only. Product specs for G62-361tx say that the hard drive is a 320GB 5400rpm and this hard drive is available for model 1.1 only. I think that you may use a 4GB module anyway, the laptop might be upgraded up to 8GB of RAM..

  • Using the XSLT processor for non-workbench XSLT

    Hi there,
is it possible to use the built-in XSLT processor for arbitrary XSLT transformations which aren't checked in in the ABAP workbench but instead given as a runtime object (string or iXML)?
Instead of the built-in command CALL TRANSFORMATION which according to the doc is restricted to workbench transformations, I am looking for an option like this:
data: lo_transformation type ref to if_ixml_document,
          lo_source         type ref to if_ixml_document,
          lo_target         type ref to if_ixml_focument.
    * I get lo_transformation and lo_source from somewhere out there
    try.
        lo_target ?= cl_some_fine_class_which_i_am_looking_for=>transform(
                          io_source         = lo_source
                          io_transformation = lo_transformation ).
      catch cx_xslt_runtime_error.
    endtry.
Does anybody know such a feature?
For a background about this problem - in German language - see my blog
    http://ruediger-plantiko.blogspot.com/2007/08/xslt-in-bsp-anwendungen-und-in-abap.html
    Thanks and Regards,
    Rüdiger

    Dear Rashid,
thanks - this is the answer! I wonder why I didn't find this class one year ago. A little test prog shows that it works fine and even performant (about 0.5 millisec for creating the new dynamic XSLT program with the method set_source_stream( ) ). For usage in web apps, it would be nice to know whether the temporary program remains available in the application servers' buffer after end of process. I can't check this, since this is performed on the C/C++ level, and SE30 doesn't track the method set_source_stream() itself (it could show a decrease of runtime after the first call).
Here comes a little self-contained ABAP program to test the functionality. It works well on our system with SAPKB70012.
    Thanks and regards,
    Rüdiger

From my personal experience, I wouldn't go for an Integrated card. This is one of the most important components for Photoshop, so invest in a decent graphics card (ATI or NVidia). It doesn't have to be a really exepensive one - I have been using ATI Radeon with 256MB of RAM on my Dell Studio for almost two years and it still rocks! (even when I work with 3D in Ps CS5 Extended).
I would also invest in more RAM (this can be added easily - I bought extra 4GB as my Studio came with 3GB).
I wouldn't worry about the processor - I'm on Intel Core 2 Duo - and it works very very well, it's very quick which is very important as I'm training Photoshop.
    I hope this helps.

  • Is it possible to run dual versions of firefox?

there are add ons and features i need from a previous version of firefox, but firefox 4 also has quite a few nifty add ons as well. is it possible to run dual sessions of firefox using different version? boot from usb hasnt worked (well, ok, it worked, but it started as ff4...), maybe theres something else i can try?

    Yes, see ...
Using multiple profiles - Firefox - MozillaZine Knowledge Base
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Using_multiple_profiles_-_Firefox
But from what you indicate they might still be good extensions where it is simply a matter of the maxVersion not being updated. First check the following...
Go to the add-ons web page at addons.mozilla.com then find your add-on then check to see if what is there is compatible and if it is the same version as you are trying to use. Also go down to the bottom of your add-on's page and click on the "View all Versions" to see if there is something pending for your version of Firefox listed as "Experimental".
Check the developer and user comments to see if there is a solution.

Is it possible say to move the last 7 days partitions into the other table for backup using partition exchange?

    >
    No.
If the goal is to back up the data why not just use expdp to export the data for all seven partitions at once? Then drop the partitions.
If you only use one regular table for the exchange you would have to start with an empty table, swap one partition, backup the table, truncate the table, swap the next partition and so on.
Or you could create a table with seven empty partitions and swap the 7 partitions one at a time and then backup the new partitioned table.
Or you could create seven tables and swap each one with a partition and then backup all seven tables.
    Too many choices.

  • Need to upgrade processor for Lion operating system

How do I upgrade my MacBook Pro processor for Lion operating system?

I have the same question. I have a MacBook Pro 1,2 (yeah, oooooold) with the 2.16 Intel Core Duo, running Snow Leopard. If I'd waited another month before buying, it would've had the Core 2 Duo.
It would appear that I can't upgrade to Lion. I found one forum post that gives me hope, but I'm not holding my breath: http://www.mac-forums.com/forums/apple-notebooks/84004-processor-upgrade.html#po st524333  It suggests that the CPU might not be soldered in. Which leads me to wonder if upgrading the processor is possible...
I'd like to know if upgrading the processor is possible and/or practical (as in, doesn't cost as much as buying a new mac).

Give a list of supported processors for notebook HP dv6-6158er , Can I install Core i7 2720qm?

    Hi:
Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.
    http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02842252.pdf
Supported Intel processors are listed in Chapter 1, page 2.
You cannot install an Intel quad core processor without also replacing the motherboard.
You can only install a dual core processor in your specific model since you have an i3 processor.
So that means the best processor you can go to is the Intel Core i7-2620M 2.70-GHz (SC turbo up to 3.40-
    GHz) processor (4.0-MB L3 cache, dual core, 35 W).
If you look at chapter 3, at the list of motherboards starting on page 27, you will see that there are different motherboards based on # of cores and the different graphics chips on the boards.

Recently, I asked about the possibility to swap from windows to mac with Adobe Design Standard CS5.5. In response, I was directed to the help page and i know that it is possible. But today I see that the help page is out of date.
How cann I now swap platforms for Adobe Design Standard CS5.5? Do I realy need to buy CS6? Or afer dowloading the mac version of CS5.5 I get the key. And if I realy need upgreade the CS5.5 cann I use the Mac version of CS6 for the dowloaded mac version of CS5.5? Is it possible?

    Thanks !
I didn't know that I cann buy CS6 Mac upgrade in Adobe Store.
So I have only to buy the CS6 Mac versions and upgrade CS5.5 Win to CS6 Mac?
    How does look the procedure?
Do I need to install first the CS5.5 Mac on my Macbook and then upgrade it or is it not necessary?

  • Hi I have two questions. I am using NAS 4.1 and was wondering is it possible to set a different session timeout for different users? How is the session timeout set? Thanks, YS

<i>I am using NAS 4.1 and was wondering is it possible to set a different session timeout for different users?</i>
Um, there is no such thing as NAS4.1.
I'm assuming that you mean NAS4.0 (maybe NAS4.0sp1?). If so, then the session timeouts are specified in the session section of the NTV configuration files.
AFAIK, you can specify session timeouts on a per user basis.

  • I have a iMac 21,5" Intel mid 2011 and I need to know if is possible I change the original 500Gb HD for a 512Gb SSD? If yes, where I find a tutorial about this? Thanks a lot and best regards all.

    Hi people,
I'm typing from Brasil, sorry my English.
I have a iMac 21,5" Intel mid 2011 and I need to know if is possible I change the original 500Gb HD for a 512Gb SSD?
I intend to keep the original DVD driver and install the SSD in the same HD place.
If yes, where I find a tutorial about this?
And I will like to know if the 512GB Solid-State Drive Kit for Mac Pro is compatible with iMac.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC731ZM/A/512gb-solid-state-drive-kit-for-mac- pro?fnode=5f
What brand and model of SSD do you recommend?
Thanks a lot for now and best regards all.

Since the late 2009 iMacs came out, replacing the hard drive has caused the internal Hard Drive Fan to start running at around 6000RPM.
This is due to Apple replacing the external Hard Drive temperature sensor with a proprietary firmware and using the drives internal sensor.
Replacement drives do not contain the firmware to deliver temperature data on the temperature sensor cable.
When the iMac does not receive a good signal from the hard drive it puts the fan at full speed to protect the drive.
If you replace your drive, your iMac will initially seem fine, but soon the fan will begin to speed up to full speed. Resetting the SMC (System Management Controller) will have a temporary effect, but again the fan will speed up.
Fixes people have used in the past included:
Using smcFanControl and the terminal to set a MAX speed for the fan and writing scripts to start this after every sleep/restart.
Shorting the temperature sensor cable (Not a possibility on 2011 iMacs) this tricks the iMac into thinking the drives temperature is very low, hence slow fan speed.
Both these fixes are less then perfect and leave the drive in a dangerous situation with no protection from overheating.
Another option people try is other Fan Control software. These programs will not work for this particular issue as they often only control the base speed, and if they do control the fans actual speed they rely on the temperature reported by the sensor which is now incorrect.
    HDD Fan Control
HDD Fan Control works to fix this issue by reading the drives internal temperature using the S.M.A.R.T protocol and set the fans actual speed to a value good to protect the drive.
It runs at startup and continually to always control the fan correctly, prevent the loud fan noise and protect the drive from overheating
Instead of HDDFan Control, get the free SSDFan Control
