Possible to swap windows 7 for windows xp?

I bought my Toshiba C660 recently but have had problems. Both my printers and scanner/printer wont install. My last laptop was a Compaq with windows XP and had no problems with installing software.
Is it possible to replace the windows 7 on the Toshiba with windows XP?
P.S. it is 64-bit.

Usually applications' installers give you a default installation location and prompt if that's where you want to install it. You can change that to a different location, such as an external drive. This will likely slow down the game a bit if it has to load data from an external drive instead of the SSD.
You need to decide whether it's better to install everything on the SSD, thus, requiring a larger allocation of space for the Windows partition.

  • Possible to swap MDD FW400 for FW800 logic board?

    Hello all,
I'd thought I would ask this question because I have been thinking about this. Currently, have a dual 1.25 2003 model(not earlier MDD!) MDD G4 with the 2MB L3 per processor.
I just received today my airport extreme USB netgear device and I must say plugged into the USB 2.0 5-port card I have it is even faster than the Belkin PCI F5D7000 card! But, my question is concerning something else.
FW800 logic board - is it really worth it for me to swap current FW400 board with the FW800 board? 2ndly, can I use my existing MDD case or do I have to find another case? My power supply is a 360w power supply. I am not sure if it is a quieter one or not. The date on my power mac G4 2003 says: copyright June 2003(or was it July?) Apple computer. - Does this entail that the FW800 machines came out the same time as mine did? Again, I don't have the original MDD(867,1gh,1.25), I have the last dual bootable OS 9.2.2 MDD machine from 2003.
Also, is the airport extreme card going to produce faster results that the netgear WG111V2.0 USB device I currently have plugged into my USB 2.0 pci card? One thing I did notice is that I can no longer put my computer into hibernation or deep sleep, since I now have the USB 2.0 netgear wireless device attached.
Can anyone confirm if there is a way around for the sleep/hibernate function to work even with the USB 2.0 device plugged in? I also removed the Belkin wireless PCI card(FD57000). Before the USB 2.0 device, my computer would goto sleep and hibernate normally.
    Thanks!

*9.x and Internet*: shouldn't be a problem with Ethernet. Forget which control panels you'll need to play with TCP/IP, Network? So if you want faster Internet with the MDD in 9.x, go with Ethernet -- the regular Airport card will work in 9.x by the way. That's the reason why for faster wireless, I'm going to buy the new Airport Express (with wireless -n), and connect via WDS to my Airport Extreme -- the MDD will connect to the Express via Ethernet which should be fine in both 9.x and OS X.
I did this once before my the original Airport Express (wireless -g) and an old Linksys all-in-one that supported WDS. But the Linksys blew its ethernet ports, so I replaced it with a newer model that doesn't support WDS.
*Copper heatsink* should fit any MDD CPU card, I've tried mine on both a Dual 867 and 1.25GHz cards, although I'm using a Verax cooler on the 1.25GHz Dual. The copper contact plate while narrow (about 1.5 cm) is a long piece, so it would contact both single and dual CPUs. As for the 1.25GHz dual in particular, see here.
Just a tip, use some good thermal compound, like Artic Silver. You'll need to clean off the old compound on your CPUs. I used Articlean (also made by Artic silver), works great. They sell a kit with both cleaner and purifier (preparation compound for the thermal compounds).
*Dual 1.25 2003*. I think the best way may be to check the model number. According to everymac.com, it should be M9145LL/A. I'm sure the info's also on Apple's site somewhere. The last 2003 1.25Ghz have 2MB L3 cache, which is easy enough to see in say System Profiler. If you're seeing 2MB L3, then you know you've got the CPU from the last 2003 model. As for the motherboard, you'd probably have to check the assembly number under the modem to insure a 2003 motherboard, but I don't think that matters as much as the CPU.
The CPU cards from MDDs and G4 XServes are pretty much interchangable --setting aside the issue of 133MHz and 167Mhz front side buses, which could overclock or underclock depending on CPU card & motherboard combination. And reading around there's an incompatibility with certain MDD Dual 1.0GHz on certain motherboards.
You could put an early 1.25GHz dual with only 1MB L3 on a 2003 MDD motherboard; for that matter you could stick a 1.42GHz dual from a FW800 MDD on your 2003 MDD motherboard, which some people have done. I guess if you're seeing Dual 1.25GHz w/1MB L3 advertised as the last 2003 MDDs, then people might not know what they're talking about, or may have replaced the CPU. The 1MB L3 versions cost less.
FW800, indeed if you want it, you can always add a card later. Since the MDDs don't have USB2, for that you'll need a card as I think you've already done. But there's always a worry of eating the slots. While rare, there are some combo USB2/FW800 cards. Problem with a combo cards over separate cards is that there's usually a performance hit on the FW side. A friend of mine has one that suffers from this -- like 7-10MB/sec hit. I recently bought a Siig combo FW800/USB2 and there's not nearly the performance hit; FW800 is only a few ticks less in MB/sec compared to my FW800 only card. In my DA, I didn't see any deep sleep issues with the Siig card, but every Mac is different. I've haven't tested it in a MDD, yet.
I'm working on getting two MDDs working (long story), so I have my hands full. Can't say I love the MDDs yet, but I certainly been bit by the tinkering/upgrading bug. So I'm have fun getting my two MDDs together that are both very close to being ready -- I need to stress test them before moving over my HDs/data, cards, etc.

    Hello
Recently, I asked about the possibility to swap from windows to mac with Adobe Design Standard CS5.5. In response, I was directed to the help page and i know that it is possible. But today I see that the help page is out of date.
How cann I now swap platforms for Adobe Design Standard CS5.5? Do I realy need to buy CS6? Or afer dowloading the mac version of CS5.5 I get the key. And if I realy need upgreade the CS5.5 cann I use the Mac version of CS6 for the dowloaded mac version of CS5.5? Is it possible?

    Thanks !
I didn't know that I cann buy CS6 Mac upgrade in Adobe Store.
So I have only to buy the CS6 Mac versions and upgrade CS5.5 Win to CS6 Mac?
    How does look the procedure?
Do I need to install first the CS5.5 Mac on my Macbook and then upgrade it or is it not necessary?
    Thanks

Well then maybe you could take a screenshot because the appearance of such a window is news to me.
Also post your OS X version and what model Mac you have. The more detail, the better. Thanks.
To take a screenshot hold ⌘ Shift 4 to create a selection crosshair. Click and hold while you drag the crosshair over the area you wish to capture and then release the mouse or trackpad. You will hear a "camera shutter" sound. This will deposit a screenshot on your Desktop.
If you can't find it on your Desktop look in your Documents or Downloads folder.
When you post your response, click the "camera" icon above the text field:
This will display a dialog box which enables you to choose the screenshot file (remember it's on your Desktop) and click the Insert Image button.
⌘ Shift 4 and then pressing the space bar captures the frontmost window.
⌘ Shift 3 captures the entire screen.
Drag the screenshot to the Trash after you post your reply.

  • Is it possible to install Windows 7 without using BCA to install drivers and using the support 5 software for drivers on my iMac 2014?

What I am wondering is if I can install Windows 7 on my iMac 2014 without using BCA to install drivers and using the manual download Support software without bricking my system. The issue is that I recently moved into the country without a reliable data connection, so I'd like to download all the drivers from when I'm in town generally. Any info is appreciated.

The District is right to say what they told you they can't install Disctrict Windows 7 on your computer because they have a license agreements with MS and doing so will violate their Terms of Agreement. And you shouldn't be asking something like that to start with. If that laptop can't install Windows 7 it then your stuck with WIndows 8 unless HP has downgrade to go back to Windows 7 on it otherwise if none exist you will not get any drivers or support for it. You best luck is to find a used Windows 7 laptop and order the HP recovery media for it and wipe it clean to factory install and register it to you and that will give you a Windows 7 maching to start with.

  • Is it possible to install windows 8.1 on macbook pro late 2013?

    hi ,
Is it possible to install windows 8.1 on late 2013 macbook pro?
I have tried installing it twice but both of the time i got an error
Windows could not update the computer's boot configuration. Installation cannot proceed.

Maybe people have found a solution already but yesterday I managed to install Win 8.1 as a BootCamp on my new 15" retina MBP.  I followed the steps John Guo described but with a couple of changes as his approach failed for me.
    1. Make sure you are starting from a single partition.
    2. Create the Windows install USB from the ISO and also allow BootCamp Assistant to create download the drivers - but untick the option to install windows.
    3. Open Disk Utility and create a new partition and format as MS-DOS (FAT) rather than leave as free space.
    4. Restart your Mac and use the option to boot into the Windows part of the USB not the EFI-boot.
    5. Follow the install
    6. When it comes to the drive selection select the FAT drive. Windows installer will say it cannot install here as it needs to be and NTFS partitiion (in previous atempts I always got the message to say the partitiion was using GUI partition table so could not install even though it was formatted to NTFS).
    7. The format to NTFS should work fine and install proceed.
    8. When the installer reboots the machine you will need to use the boot option to ensure you boot back into Windows.
    9. Once installed the bootcamp driver install runs automatically and for me all drivers run fine even the NVIDIA, which I've seen some people mention having issues with.
I was inpressed with Windows automatically scaling the text to 200%, which meant it was using the full 2880x1800 resolution so everything was crisp but the windows and text was scaled nicely. I changed this 150% to give me some more real estate.
I'm guessing that by formatting the new partition as FAT it creates a MBP within the new drive that is writable by windows but I'm not a windows guru so this is a guess. But anyway, this work perfectly.
    hope this helps some people.

If you have Lion installed, and run Boot Camp, it will create the boot flash for you, just followe the tutorial on screen. As far as I remember, this was not possible prior to Lion.

Is it possible to install windows 7 on a Toshiba Satellite pro 6100 machine? I 'm currently using windows XP.
    thanks.

    Hi buddy,
Do you really think about Windows 7 installation on many years old Satellite Pro 6100???
In my opinion this will not work because its too old and not fast enough. Newest OS that is supported from Toshiba is Windows XP and this should be the best choice for this oldie.
So just be satisfied with Windows XP, its a good choice for older computers! :)

  • Is it possible to install Windows 7 on Retina MacBook with a shared CD drive?

My school provides Windows 7 Ultimate upgrades to students
My friend installed Windows 7 normally even though it's technically an upgrade (burned the .img file to a DVD using Disk Utility and installed it through the Boot Camp Assistant tool in Snow Leopard)
I own a 2008 MacBook which has an optical drive
I own 1, 2 GB thumb drive and 1, 4 GB thumb drive
Is it possible to install Windows 7 through my Retina MacBook Pro through a shared CD connection with my 2008 MacBook?
I tried using the Boot Camp Assitant tool.
I burned the Windows 7 upgrade .img file to a DVD with Disk Utility just like my friend
I copied that DVD as a .cdr file to my Retina MacBook using the shared CD connection and Disk Utility, and changed the file extension to .iso
With the Boot Camp Assistant, I set-up my 4 GB thumb drive
When I get to the "Create a Partition for Windows" screen and I press install, I get the message "The installer disc could not be found".
The DVD is in my 2008 MacBook and I mounted it on the Retina MacBook. The 4 GB Windows set-up thumb drive is connected to the Retina MacBook.
I'm confused as to what I'm doing wrong.
    Any help is appreciated.

You need the USB SuperDrive or an USB disk to install Windows on the computer

    Hi Mehdi,
Yes, it is possible to restore Windows backup to a different machine with different hardware. This article, although written for Windows Server 2008 still applies in 2012:

'''IT'S A EASY AS IT SHOULD BE.'''
This is essentially paulbruster's answer, but I've added the steps some might assume, but which aren't so obvious to those of us who are new at this, like me.
This solution might ''appear'' to be long and complicated, but after you follow the directions once, you'll find it's quick, clean, and simple. Almost like they designed it this way.
    # If you haven't already, open a bunch of tabs on a few different subjects.
    # Click the List All Tabs button on the right side of the tab strip.
    # Select Tab Groups.
    # Create a few groups as described [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/what-are-tab-groups#w_how-do-i-create-a-tab-group here] , i.e. just drag them out of the main thumbnail group into the new groups they create.
    # Now click on any thumbnail in any new group, but not the original big default group you may have left some tabs in.
#A regular Firefox window will open, but'' only the tabs in that group will be visible.'' You also now have the Tab Groups button in the tab strip.
    # Right click on any tab, and there it is: Bookmark All Tabs. Click on it in the list of options. Or you can hit Ctrl+Shift+D instead and go straight to the dialogue box from the tab without any clicks. But don't go looking for this familiar option anywhere else, 'cause it's not there.
    # Now pick an existing folder or create a new one just like you would have before and '''shlpam!''' there they are. New folders are supposed to end up in the Unsorted category all the way at the very bottom, but for some reason mine show up at the bottom of my last sorted category.
    # DO NOT CLICK THE UPPER-RIGHTMOST X to close this group of tabs. This will close ALL of your tabs in all groups, currently visible or not. At least it asks if you're sure first. Instead, click your new Tab Groups button to return to the Boxes 'O Thumbnails window, and click the X in the group box you just bookmarked.
    # Click on another thumbnail to repeat the process with another group, or click on a thumbnail in the big default box to return to the original FF window. You can also click the Tab Groups button at the upper right, or Ctrl+Shift+E, which will also get you ''into'' the Boxes 'O Nails window ''from'' FF.
    # So now when you reopen FF after shutdown, simply select your folder from your Bookmarks and Open All in Tabs. '''Just like paulbruster said. '''

  • [SOLVED] Possible to tile windows in xfce?

    Hi guys,
i'm curious if there's any possibility to tile windows in xfce4. i'm very used to this nice feature from kde4/gnome/win7/etc. where you can drag/drop the window to the edge of the screen and it gets automatically adjusted, or more precisley, tiled horizontally/vertically.
i know that there are many tools/hacks avaible in the AUR but can they also be applied on xfce4/xfwm?
    best regards!

xfwm4-tiling is really great and recommendable (it's available in the AUR)! tiling is a bit 'harsh' when you use more than one desktop because the distance between skipping to the next desktop and tiling is a bit too small, but ok
edit: thank you warfruit for pointing at the pkg!

In the Windows world you can use RDP to remotely control a (Windows) server for administration purposes. You can also use RDP to connect to a Windows Terminal Server to run user applications on the server and multiple users can do this at the same time.
It is not possible to use RDP to remotely control a Mac server for administration purposes. You can however use Screen Sharing or VNC (if enabled) or install some other software like TImbuktu Pro to allow the same sort of thing. None of these use the RDP protocol. If your are a mainly or all Mac environment you would use Screen Sharing (Apple's custom version of VNC). You can get Windows versions of VNC and Timbuktu Pro which would therefore allow a Windows machine to remote control the Mac server.
It is however possible to buy and install a Mac Terminal server solution to allow multiple users to connect and run applications on the Mac server just like a Windows Terminal Server solution except as it is running on a Mac server it will allow running Mac applications rather than Windows applications. This is not for remote controlling the server. There are two such packages for the Mac these being AquaConnect and iRAPP. These can run their own proprietary protocol or they can also allow users to connect via the RDP protocol. This does therefore allow a Mac or Windows user to connect to the Mac Terminal Server and run Mac applications.

If you have license for Windows 7 or you have downgrade option. You should do reinstall of Windows 7 and there is no direct downgrade option. It is possible to backup data and then restore files from user profile manually but there is
no direct downgrade option and you have to reinstall all programs.
