Possible to sync iPhone to work and home computer

I am new to the iPhone thanks to Verizon. I have an iTunes account on my home laptop that I have been using forever- it has all my movies, shows music etc.
I am wondering if there is a way to load some of this content on my iPhone, AND still sync the phone with my work computer. (My work computer is completely separate). Put simply, is there a way for me to have some "fun" content from my home computer and some "necessary" content (Outlook, contacts, bookmarks etc) from my work computer on one iPhone. If possible, what steps should I take to execute this. Do I download iTunes on my work computer with a different user name? Can two iTunes accounts be associated with the same user name? Thanks for your thoughts, guys. Obviously I am a novice!

With the iPhone, you can sync all iTunes content with only one computer. Trying to sync iTunes content with a second computer will result in iTunes erasing the content from the first computer. However, non-itunes content such as contacts, calendars, mail settings, notes, etc. (anything in the Info pane) can be synced from another computer.
Do not allow your iPhone to sync until you have set up your selections. Prevent automatic syncing one time, without changing settings: Open iTunes. Then, as you connect iPhone to your computer, press and hold Command-Option (on a Mac) or Shift-Control (on a PC) until you see iPhone appear in the sidebar.
At home, make your selections from the Music, Videos, Applications, etc. panes, but leave the selections in the Info pane that you want synced from your work computer unchecked. When you are finished, click the "Apply" button at the bottom right of the iTunes window.
At work, Prevent automatic syncing one time, without changing settings: Open iTunes. Then, as you connect iPhone to your computer, press and hold Command-Option (on a Mac) or Shift-Control (on a PC) until you see iPhone appear in the sidebar. Make sure all options in all the panes you used at home are deselected (not checked), particularly the "Sync Music" at the top of the music pane.
Go to the Info pane and select your sync choices that you left unchecked at home(such as contacts, calendars), then click the "Apply" button at the bottom right of the iTunes window.

  • Sync iPhone with Work and home computers

I have a new iPhone 3GS. I have set it up to sync with my calendar and contacts at work but because I am not able to load music on my work computer I want to load my music via iTunes on my home computer.
Can I sync calendar and contacts from one PC and music from another?

yes, you can do this, however, i am not 100% sure how it's done. if you look through the forum, you'll find other posters who had this question.
i am pretty sure you have to turn on manually manage stuff on your work system, but again, look through the forum and you'll find an answer.

  • I have an ipod and an iphone. I would like to use both devices for my work and home computer. But it tells me that its installed to another library and will delete all items to sync to itunes. Is there a way to do this without deleting?

OK....... I have an Ipod and an Iphone. Would like all the Movies and music i have on both. My computer broke and now the only music i have is on ipod. It wont let me transfer to itunes. It says this device is linked to a different library and if i want to sync to a new one and delete everything on it. UH....NO   Is there a way to do this without deleting ? All purchases were made though the same apple id.

    - An iPod can only sync with one iTunes library. Yu can however manage music and videos among different computers by:
Using iPhone, iPad, or iPod with multiple computers
    - To change syncing computer, move all the media to compute r#2
    - Connect the iPod to #2 and make a backup by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
    - Restore the iPod from that backup
Note tha the iPod backup the iTunes makes does not include synced media like apps and music.

  • Sync with Work and Home Computer?

I'm moving from a Blackberry where I'm always in sync. How am I going to be able to sync up at the office (with my work computer) and then come home and sync again at home? I don't need to sync any media at work, just calendar. Any ideas on what can be done? Is this possible?

I was able to do this successfully. I have a Mac at home and Windows at work. I upgraded iTunes on both to v7.3 so it would recognize the iPhone as being connected. Under iTunes>Edit>Preferences iPhone tab, you can tell it if you want you want to "disable automatic syncing for all iPhones".
With the phone connected, it shows up under Devices and you have a tab to represent the different types of data/content you want to sync. On the PC I only do my Outlook calendar, so I just check "Sync calendars from: Outlook" for iTunes on the PC, and uncheck all the others (e.g. Music, Photos, Video). On the Mac, I do the reverse. So far it is working as expected.
Note that it does pop a dialog saying that the information on this iPhone "is synced with another user account", and asks if you want to Merge or Replace info. I find this a little confusing, as I use the same phone and account on both PCs. I merged, and it has been ok.

  • ITunes account used on work and home computer

I use the same iTunes account on my home and work computers.  I have home sharing on.  I have always been able to purchase music on either computer and access it on both.  Recently I made quite a few purchases on my work computer but I can not access them at home.  Nothing has changed.  Help!!

    Hi,
The best way to manage work environment security would be to enable password login to access your session.  In system preference in the user section, enable the settings to ask for password.

  • Using iCloud on my work and home computer

I'm loving the features of iCloud on Mountain Lion. What I would like to do is sign in on my work computer once I upgrade it to Mountain Lion as well so I can keep my safari tabs, reminders, messages etc synced. The only thing I'm worried about is when I'm on lunch or away of someone having access to my things. If I sign out of iCloud on my work computer when I leave for lunch will that sign me out of everything and make it inaccessable for others? Or would it be best to just sign out to the login screen?
    Thanks,

    Sync iPod/iPad/iPhone with two computers
Although it isn't possible to sync an Apple device with two different libraries it is possible to sync with the same logical library from multiple computers. Each library has an internal ID and when iTunes connects to your iPod/iPad/iPhone it compares the local ID with the one the device normally syncs with. If they are the same you can go ahead and sync...
I have my library cloned to a small 1Tb USB drive which I can take between home & work. At either location I use SyncToy 2.1 to update the local copy with the external drive. Mac users should be able to find similar tools. I can open either of the local libraries or the one on the external drive and update the media content of my iPhone. The slight exception is Photos which normally connects to a specific folder on a specific machine, although that can easily be remapped to the current library if you create a "Photos" folder inside the iTunes Media folder so that syncing the iTunes folders keeps this up to date as well. I periodically sweep my library for new files & orphans withiTunes Folder Watch just in case I make changes at one location but then overwrite the library with a newer copy from the other. Again Mac users should be able to find similar tools.
As long as your media is organised within an iTunes Music or Tunes Media folder, in turn held inside the main iTunes folder that has your library files (whether or not you let iTunes keep the media folder organised) each library can access items at the same relative path from the library folder so the library can be at different drives/paths on different machines. This solution ensures I always have adequate backups of my library and I can update my devices whenever I can connect to the same build of iTunes.
When working with an iPhone earlier builds of iTunes would remove any file not physically present in the local library, even if there was an entry for it, making manual management practically redundant on the iPhone. This behaviour has been changed but it will still only permit manual management with a library that has the correct internal ID. If you don't want to sync your library between machines on a regular basis just copy the iTunes Library.itl file from the current "home" machine to any other you want to use, then clean out the library entires and import the local content you have on that box.

  • HT1296 I'm having difficulty syncing my iCal between my home computer and iPhone.  New entries from my home are not syncing with the phone and vice-versa.  I didn't have any problems with this before until the latest phone update.  Any suggestions?

It could be that the existing wire in your appartment is not clean enough to provision DSL only. When combined with the phone possibly it has a higher line voltage and worked before. Now that the line is to be provisioned without phone service it may be giving them trouble that did not show before they came out and ran the new line test. So a new jack dedecated for your DSL line may require a new wire be run to your appartment. Also the account for internet only used to require direct billing to a credit card or something else. This was a number of years ago. Most accounts are linked to a phone number, and without a voice number it adds to the confusion.
If you are getting the voice and everything turned on as before, then I am at a loss for words.

How to keep songs on iphone, work computer and home computer the same?
This seems like something everyone would want to do. I don't know why Apple won't give us a simple solution. They could even charge us for it. I would pay!
Has anyone solved this? What is your solution?
    Thanks!

If you just want to be able to sync your devices to the same PC without having them get overwritten all the times, here is a free method
    http://cnettv.cnet.com/sync-your-ipod-two-computers/9742-1_53-50004835.html
Basically, you put the same itunes database file on all the PCs. This fakes itunes into thinking it is always the same PC and the ipod is OK to sync with it. It will NOT keep your libraries truly synced, though. I've just resigned myself to always buying from one PC and manually transferring the content to other PCs I want it on.

  • Can I sync my ipad to my work and home computers?

I have a 1st generation ipad and recently my company purchase ipad 2 for me. Can I sync them both to my home computer or do I need to sync the work ipad to the work computer and my personal ipad to my home computer?

You may use your own content purchased through the iTunes stores on any device that you own or that is in your control. So, as long as you are not sharing the iPad 2 with other employees, you can sync it with your home computer. It is a bad idea to sync the iPad to both computers, as each will completely erase what the other computer synced before syncing.

  • Two iCloud accounts for work and home?

On my iPad2, I have a home email account and a work email account and work calendar.  If I set up a second (work) user account on the family iMac, can I have two iCloud accounts to keep work and home separate? I would like to share  pictures, home emails, etc with my wife's iPad and iPhone, but not share the work email and work calendar.   Will I be able to have both iCloud accounts share with my iPhone 4s and iPad? For now, I am using a google calendar for work on the iPad2 and sync it to Google.

That's not a problem, you can create a second account from system preferences > mail, contacts and calendars, click on the small plus icon in the bottom left corner, choose iCloud from the list of options, click on the 'create Apple ID' button and follow the rest of the instructions.
Note however, a secondary account has all the features of a primary account apart from photos stream and Back to My Mac, only your primary account can use these features.

  • ITunes at work and home

I authorized Itunes at work and home. I am trying to sync to my iphone.
The issue is I bought 5 songs from home and synced them fine. Then I came to work and bought 3 more songs and when I went to sync the iphone again it said it had to erase all my iphone content and then sync the songs.
Why can't it just add the 3 songs to my 5 songs and not delete the whole thing? Then I'll just be left with the 3 songs from work even though I bought 8.
    Iphone 1.0   Windows XP Pro

The iPhone does not support manual synchronization. Use a hard or flash disk to transfer the files from one computer to the other, or if that isn't an option, use a service such as email or web storage to transfer them.

  • How do I turn on photo sharing in itunes so I can see all my iphone photos on my ipad and home computer?

How do I turn on home sharing so I can see all my iphone photos on all my devices, ipad, apple TV, and home computer?  I must have stopped home sharing when setting this up but would like to turn it on again.

You might have been using the iPad every day and this issue could have cropped up anyway. I have read where users state that they used their iPad the night before, plugged in to charge it over night and they had the connect to iTunes message on the iPad the next morning.
What I'm saying is that what happened to you can't be explained other than something went wrong. Brilliant I know, but how can anyone possibly know what happended for sure.
Without a computer - and I know that with iOS 5 an iPad can be PC free - it is my belief that you could be facing issues down the line because even with iCloud - if you get the connect to iTunes message - there is no way to correct the problem without a computer.
Even of you had been using the device every day, charging it every night and taking great pains to ensure that the iPad was well cared for, once the connect to iTunes message pops up - you still need a computer.
Unless I have been missing something for the last six months, iCloud can't bail anyone out of this scenario.

Is it possible to sync with both my win 7 computer (Outlook 2010), and with iCloud, without duplicating contacts and appointments? thanks.

    Hey keiichi-san,
Yes, It is possible. You can merge contacts, calendars, and bookmarks between multiple computers.
When you sync the contacts and calendars to your iPhone from the new computer you'll see the option to Merge or Replace, just choose Merge.
These articles provide more information on syncing options:
