Possible to sync (view) my boss's schedule from Outlook?

Hi folks. I hope I'm wording this correctly. I'm trying to setup my iPhone to where it would allow me to view my boss's schedule along with my mine so I can keep up with his plans. Does anybody know if this is possible or of any software that would allow for this? We are running Outlook in Windows Vista through MS Exchange. Thanks in advance.

We use Add2Exchange (DidItBetter.com). This has nothing to do with the iPhone except that it will allow you to automatically sync to a calendar folder in YOUR Exchange account that will then be viewable on your iPhone. It can be a bit touchy but it works. Runs on the Exchange server, though, so you'll need IT to approve/install it.

Yes, It is possible. You can merge contacts, calendars, and bookmarks between multiple computers.
When you sync the contacts and calendars to your iPhone from the new computer you'll see the option to Merge or Replace, just choose Merge.

Is it possible to sync a calendar that is shared from a microsoft exchange account?

I subscribe currently to a calendar from a coworker on exchange. In outlook answering this invite was a very simple one click and it was added to my list of calendars.
I cannot seem to add this calendar to the ipad. I have tried several things, basically all that I can think of and no luck. No calendar.
Itunes does not see the calendar in sync. If I choose "all calendars" in sync it never appears.
Icloud does not see it or add it from outlook despite it having been there for quite some time.
I really need some help here.

You are welcome.
Since shared information is temporary yours (temporary while being shared) you should be fine. CalDav is just underlying exchange protocol. So as long as you can see that info shared -CalDav is just a delivery vehicle.
As far as permissions - yes they are going to stay. Thousands of us share for example Google calendars, cause Google integrated calendars sync in IOS mail. The question is just as simple as if your exchange supports it and if they(your IT) are going to allow your ipad/iphone connect to it.(Make sure to get their instructions if your exchange requires specific setup)

No sync with iTunes 10 after upgrade from Outlook 2007 to Outlook 2010

I seem to have more or less the same problem as described in the archived thread http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=12179724
With Windows 7 x64, Office 2007 and iTunes 10, syncing worked fine, but after an upgrade to Office 2010 (x86), iTunes acts as if it syncs (no error messages), but nothing happens. Calendar or contact items that I have changed on either the phone or the computer since the last truly successful sync are not transferred.
Has anyone found a solution for this?

a) refer to Jason's 12/14 post, for troubleshooting articles related to "Click" version, and general Apple troubleshooting...(you may have multiple problems, all of which need to be solved in order)...and yes, 12/15 posting - direct to an Exchange account, if available - iPhone/iPad works better than any other mobile device I have ever used against an Exchange Server...(have not tried WinMobile7, which should work great also...but BB, Droids, and Palms have...issues/quirks usually necessitating a 3rd-party App)...
b) Outlook 2010 settings needed for me to get Contact (and probably Cal) sync:
1) I had 2 profiles, with Outlook set to Choose Profile on startup...apparently needed to change to "Always Use This Profile" setting, as it appears that iTunes is not Outlook multi-profile aware.
2) under that [now default] profile, I had multiple POP accounts...it appears that iTunes is only going to work with the contacts/calendar from the account designated as the Default Data File, under Account-->Settings (a single PST file)
3) under Account-->Settings, a tab called Address Books - I had, besides the Outlook Address Book, an entry called "Mobile Address Book", most likely put there by my [retired] Windows Mobile phone, prior to switch to iPhone...I removed that entry.
4) restarted Outlook, restarted iTunes, Devices-->iPhone-->Info now sees Outlook-specific info...my contacts synced; categories on contacts from Outlook did not carry over, however, if, in Outlook, I create sub-folders of Contacts, move categorized to their own named sub-folder, these sub-folders DO sync individually on the iPhone, showing as "Groups".
YMMV...but those are the changes I had to put into place to get my Contacts to sync.
...still need to figure out how to control the "order" of them...the Outlook "File As" setting is not being utilized, looks like Last Name is the only control...not perfect, but I will deal with it...until apple figures out a way to use Company as a grouping option.

BTW - another option may be CompanionLink (.com), for business users. (not a recommendation, but I do have some familiarity using it, with Blackberry and Droid platforms)

Sync e-mails: deleted e-mail from outlook still showing in the iphone.

Why a specific e-mail already deleted in the outlook, which is sync with iphone, still showing in the iphone screen many days later despite of the fact that all other e-mails are deleted without a problem?
My iphone is sync with my outlook e-mails with a corporate account, has being working perfect since than, but I have one specific e-mail that came in few days ago, answered, and "deleted"; however when deleted i still getting a message "the message could not be moved to the mailbox trash" and the related e-mail still showing in my inbox.

Is this an IMAP account, or an Exchange account accessed via ActiveSync with the Exchange server?
If this message is no longer available in the account's Inbox mailbox on the server, try deleting and recreating the account on your iPhone.

Mail crashes when viewing emails with attachments sent from outlook

This problem is intermittent -- and I have a hard time reproducing it consistently. This crash seems to creep up every two weeks.
When I click on an email that was sent from outlook that contains an attachment (usually word documents), mail immediately closes and I get the "mail unexpectedly quit, do you want to reopen?" message.
The only data loss is if I had any opened drafts that had not been sent, and mail does not keep any draft windows open. However, this is frustrating for my particular work flow, because I usually keep 10-20 drafts neatly tiled on my second monitor, so that I can quickly look at emails that are currently in my pipeline. I can go back into the drafts folder and re-open, but the drafts open in new windows at the default size, not small and tiled the way I like. .Mac also has a tendency to create and save duplicate drafts, so I have 100 drafts, despite only caring about 20 of them. I try to go through and delete old drafts once a month, but it's tedious. Going through and fishing out the current 20 drafts is annoying after this crash.
So I'm trying to figure out a way to avoid this crash. I read on a forum that this might be a problem with emails that are formated in HTML, and that I could use the terminal to force mail to display plain text by default. I used the following string:
defaults write com.apple.mail PreferPlainText -bool TRUE
I was expecting this to force every incoming email to be the same default plain text font, but it only seems to disable emails with heavy HTML with images and what not...
Any ideas about how to avoid this crash? Every time this happens I close mail and repair permissions, but it always happens again.
One additional note -- I have 5 accounts, and my inbox is very big (over 12,000 emails). Is this part of the problem?
Running OS 10.4.8 on a dual 2.7 ghz G5 with 1.5 gb ram. Mail version 2.1

Contact Sync problem - Syncing contacts TO Outlook 2013 stopped working, whilst syncing contact FROM Outlook 2013 to iPhone still works.

I've tried everything...
iPhone version: 5S with latest OS (v.8.1).
Outlook version 2013, on Windows 7, latest iTunes version (12.x)
I prefer NOT to use iCloud (as the representation of iCloud contacts in Outlook ignores the contacts' folder division, which is important to me).
I have an Exchange server, though the sync is directed to my local Outlook client.
All other settings looks good (again, syncing FROM Outlook TO iPhone works, but I need vice versa).
I've tried syncing with closed Outlook client. Tried resetting configuration, tried moving to iCloud and back etc.. All, just to see the problem persist. Newly created contacts on the PC get synced to the iPhone, while newly created contacts ON the iPhone, does not get synced to Outlook.
Please HELP.

I have the same problem, when I sync the contacts they pass well from outlook to my iphone, but not the way around, indeed it changes my iphone contacts information and dismisses all the inputs that I already made in the iphone.

Disable thumbnails in Devices sync view

In the Devices sync view, is it possible to prevent thumbnails, particularly for video, from being preloaded in iTunes 9?
For example, I have an AppleTV that I sync with my old iMac. With iTunes 9, whenever I click on the "TV Shows" or "Movies" or "Podcasts" tab in the AppleTV view, my entire computer almost comes to a standstill. I suspect that it's because iTunes is loading the thumbnails from my library, especially since I store my videos on an external hard disk.
Obviously, this is extremely irritating because I can't do anything else in the meantime. (Interestingly, I don't even get the spinning beach ball!)
I've searched through Preferences and the View menu but can't find anything to disable the thumbnails. Does anyone know of a way? (And no, getting a new computer isn't an option at this time!)

i have the same question about removing thumbnails from the movies tab since upgrading to version 9, i did notice that only quicktime files i have downloaded or quicktime files i've made are shown as tummbnails, not other files. I have also notice itunes freezes or actually takes a long time to aknowledge my clickng on my ipod or the tabs, version 9 also seem slower than 8.

Installing the drive into the older machine may work, you WILL get a lot of driver errors and the unit may even fail to boot. The other problem is that the drives may not be compatable, the drive in the broken PC is a SATA drive, older PCs had IDE drives with very different connectors.
Your best option is to do as you suggest and obtain a USB caddy and extract the data that way.
Make sure that the caddy you get will support SATA drives (all new ones will).

Is it possible to easily view the actual (not displayed) value of a cell?

Is it possible to easily view the actual value of a cell calculated by a formula, not the displayed value after it has been rounded off?
For instance, if you enter the number 1.23456789 and display it rounded to 3 decimal places, you can still see the full, actual value in the formula bar:
The problem arises when you reference that number in a formula: you can't see the underlying value (even though it's obviously known to Numbers):
Is there a way to get the formula bar (or a tooltip) to show the full, unrounded value? Changing the display to more decimal places is not very convenient, especially on big spreadsheets. Maybe it could be done via AppleScript?
A related issue arises when you try to look at the sum or average of a number: if the numbers being summed have the same number of rounded decimals, the sum displayed is rounded too. I find this very annoying: I want to see the actual value, not how my spreadsheet may be displaying it in that cell.
Although, curiously, rounding to any number of decimals as long as they are not all the same displays the full, correct underlying values:

I did it with an AppleScript.
Now any time I have a cell or cell range selected, I do one click (AppleScript menu > Display Value at Full Precision), and it shows me a popup alert that simply reads:

Is it possible to Sync an iPod (or iPhone) with a Shared Library?

I know this is a silly, basic question, but 6:30 AM is just too early for me to keep digging for the answer.
So, I have several computers at home. ONE of them is used to purchase and store all of my iTunes music. This same computer is used to sync several iPods. The entire library on this computer is shared. Two other computers in the house are Authorized on the same account and regularly play music stored on the "first" computer.
So here's the rub.
My duaghter just got a new iPhone. She has her own MAC. I'd like her to begin using her own computer to sync her iPod and iPhone.
Is it possible to sync her iPod and iPhone using HER computer (that is authorized on my account) and MY shared library?

I don't think it is possible to sync an ipod to a shared library for copyright reasons. Sharing is great and simple for accessing and listening to other computer's music over a network, but to sync your ipod - I believe can only be done from that particular itune's music library. But here's how I work around this so that I don't have to have my 90 GB Music Folder copied on multiple computers:
Copy these files from your main computer (the one that has and controls your master itunes library) into the same location on any other computer on your network (say your daughter's computer): user/music/itunes/iTunes Music Library.xml & iTunes Library. Before copying them over to daughter's computer, remove the old files (maybe keep somewhere else just in case) and have itunes shut down. Then start up itunes on your daughter's computer and it should look identical to the main computer's itunes (and the same as the shared library). What you've esentially done is created a separate itunes library data base that can be managed on your daughter's computer but one that accesses the same actual music files that are on the main computer's Music Folder. To check go to Preferences/Advanced and you'll see that the Music Folder location is pointing to the same file as on the main computer (whose Music Folder is now being used as a sort of network music despository). You'll notice that when your daughter's computer starts itunes and plays a song, the main computer's hard drive where the Music Folder is stored will mount on her computer. So the main computer obviously has to be turned on, or more accurately, the location of the Music Folder (could be on an external hard drive) must be accessible over the network. Your duaghter can now create her own spearate playlists and sync her ipod to her own library which is accessing the same song files (Music Folder) as the main computer. And both of you can be playing from itunes at the same time independantly.
Here's the tricky part that takes some coordintation: Since you'll both be accessing and adding to the same huge Music Folder, you'll need to coordinate with eachother if you want to be able to have each computer's itunes database "see" any music that the other person has added or purchased. For purchasing or adding music to the music folder, both of you should have in Preferences/Advanced the "copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to Library" selection checked when purchasing music or adding music via burning. If your daughter, for example, buys an album and has this preference selected, then it will go to the Music Folder and she will have access to it. But the other computer doesn't know that this was added to the music folder and it won't show up in that computer's itunes. For itunes to knwo a song is in it's Music Library it has to add it to it. SO, from this other computer, go to File/Add to Library and navigate to the location within the Music Folder and then select the newly purchased album and it will now show up in this itunes as well - BUT before you do this you should UNcheck the "copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to Library" preference so that the album is not duplicated in the Music Folder. Then if this computer wants to purchase an album, you need to have this checked again. Basically if your doing the original adding you have to have the "copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to Library" checked. If your simply letting your itunes know that something was added then have the "copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to Library" unchecked before you add it to your library. And if someone creates a playlist that the other wants, you can still share eachother's libraries (even though your accessing the same Music Folder) or even export the playlist and import it into the other computer.
Sounds tricky but it's actually pretty easy and allows each person to sort of control his/her itunes and sync their own ipods/iphones all from the same Music Folder.

My husband has an iphone 4 & ipad. I have an iphone 4S. We both use the same itunes account. We are having trouble w/ all of our contacts/calendars & info getting all mixed up. We want to both use the same itunes account & apple id so that we dont have to separatley repurchase everything. Can anyone help us w/ this issue? Are we obligated to buy another computer so that we each have one--or is there some way around it? Thanks!!

Is there any way to sync Outlook for Mac with iPhone? I have tried everything but not successful. Apple says it is not possible to sync contacts from Outlook for Mac to iPhone 5. Any help will be much appreciated.

Is there any way to Sync contacts from Outlook for Mac to iPhone 5? Apple support says that only iTune can only sync contacts from "Contact" which is the default contact of Mac. If one is running Outllok on a Mac machine then it is not possible to sync the contacts with iPhone. It is strange that Apple distributors are promoting and offering machines with promise that Windows users can now run MS Office on Mac machines without any problem. While this is true, it is so strange that one cannot sync the contacts from MacBook Pro to iPhone5.
