POSSIBLE WORKAROUND - Install Failed Source Media Damaged DVD Error
ok i've been trying every trick i know to get leopard installed. there must be some issue with the manufacture of these dual-layer dvd's. well i think i have a solution.
boot using the leopard dvd. go through the steps to prepare to install. when you see the "customize" button, select it and UNCHECK all options. essential system software will be grayed out and the only remaining item.
then install.
Q: what does this do?
A: on the off-chance that the "damage" is on the part of the disc where those options are, you will at least finish a basic install and get your mac booting the new OS. THEN you can insert your 10.5 dvd and run the "optional installs," adding languages, printer drivers, x11, etc.
Q: but what if i get errors installing the options?
A: i was able to use disk utility to create a cd/dvd master of leopard without any of these "media damaged" errors. i reasoned, that if disk utility can create an error free disk image, then the media really isn't damaged. so try creating a cd/dvd master of your leopard disc, then mount it and install your options from there. you don't need to be booted off the DVD to install the options.
i just heard my iMac restart, so my strategy worked for me! let me know how you all fare. my guess is that Apple doesn't have a good answer for why this is happening yet. at best, they'll need to discover the problem and solve it, create a new golden master, re-manufacture the discs and send out replacements... which could take weeks.

Run the 10.5.8 combo updater again, but not via Software Update, then repair permissions.
Download the correct version of the COMBO update from the Apple download site.

Installing iTunes failed - Source Media Damage
I'm trying to instal itunes 9.2.1 the disk image can't be verified(?)
I clicked on the iTunes9.2.1.dmg icon and it cam up with installation as usual, however after partially downloading get the following message;
"The source media you are installing from is damaged. Try installing from a different copy of the source media or contact the manufacturer for a replacement". This was when downloading from Apple.
How can I rectify this?I have tried doing so, however keep encountering the same problem. It's now doing it for all things I download.

If I boot to the "Recovery HD" I get a message "Installation Failed, Try re-intalling" Which would be a fine idea, but I can't because if I re-start installation from the hard drive I get the above errors.
I've burned the "InstallESD.img" to a DVD, but it also doesn't seem to work. Comes up as though I'm in the RecoJen,
Here's what I did to get Lion installed:
Burn the installer to a DVD and install from there. It worked for me. Here's what you need to do:
First you need another computer running at least 10.6.8.
1. On the other computer go to 'App Store' (make sure you're logged in to the App Store with the AppleID you used on the troubled computer)
2. Click on 'Purchased' in the 'App Store' window's toolbar
3. If you are on 10.6.8, and haven't downloaded Lion on that computer just click "Install" to download the installation application.
3. a, if the other computer is already running Lion, you'll need to re-download the installer.
3. b. Hold down 'Option' when selecting 'Purchased' then you click "Install"
4. When the Lion Installer starts up, just quit it. You want to work with the Installer application.
5. Find the "Install Lion OS X" application in the 'Applications' folder.
6. Hold down 'Control' and click on the application and select 'Show Package Contents'
7. Find 'InstallESD.dmg' which is in the "Shared Support" folder and copy it to your desktop.
8. Burn 'InstallESD.dmg' to a DVD ('Disk Utility' is simplest to do this).
9. Put the new install DVD into the computer that has Lion partially installed and reboot holding down the "C" key.
10. run the installer as normal, selecting your harddrive as the target.
In my case, when it rebooted to the harddisk the Lion installer started AGAIN. If this happens, let it run. Then you should be done.

I created the database using dbca. First time i deleted the database using dbca and again i created with help of dbca.
The database, dbconsole is working fine.
When i issue the isqlplusctl start in command prompt,the following error is displaying..
"CNTService:Install, Failed call to open SCM, Error:5, Access is denied"
and
"Failed to start the service, Error:0, The operation completed successfully"

Source media damaged... what should I do?
I did a software update recently and since then everytime I try to open Skype, iTunes or Quicktime I get a message saying it requires Quicktime 7.5.5 or later to run. I have tried doing the software update for Quicktime again and it says the source media is damaged. I have also tried downloading the most recent version of Quicktime (I think... 769) and once again this says the source media is damaged.
What should I do?
A while back I stupidly managed to delet my DVD Player too and ever since have not been able to re-install this either.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Its hard not having music or video! My mac is all work and no play right now =(Welcome to the forums!

ITUNES - UNABLE TO UPDATE SOFTWARE - Source media damaged.

I keep trying to update the new software for my MacAir - but each time I attept to it has this error message:
The spurce media you are installing from is damaged. Try installing from a different copy or source media or contact manufacturer.
My Iphone will not connect to it, and i have tried uninstalling itunes and reinstalling but no luck.

firewall and antivirus is not blocking access to gs.apple.com on port 443 and i did not used my computer at some time in the past to hack or jailbreak some iOS device . I have also tried editing the hosts file and delete any lines that contain gs.apple.com......

After you resetted your router you should try adjusting the wireless settings on your router...
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop).In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1
Leave username blank & in password use admin in lower case...
For Wireless Settings, please do the following : -
Click on the Wireless tab
-Here select manual configuratioon...Wireless Network mode should be mixed...
-Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbours network...
- Set the Radio Band to Wide-40MHz and change the Wide channel to 9 and Standard Channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on save settings...
Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the Network Identifier...
For Wireless Security : -
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WPA, For Encryption, select AES...For Passphrase input your desired WPA Key. For example , MySecretKey , This will serve as your network key whenever you connect to your wireless network. Do NOT give this key to anyone.
NOTE : Passphrase should be more that 8 characters...
Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation...
Threshold to 2304 Change the RTS Threshold to 2307 >>Click on "Save Settings"...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...See if you get the desired speed...If not you should un-install and re-install the wireless adapter... -
Why do CC apps fail to install with a Media DB 6 error?
Can't install any CC apps onto Maverics OS. Installation fails at 42% with an error 15, media DB 6 error message.

I cleared the earliest CS2 and CS3 from my apps along with any previous CC installer with Adobe Cleaner just in case these were causing issues. I also repaired permissions. It repaired everything except an SUID file in System/Library ... I restarted and reinstalled the CC installer and again installation failed with the same error message as before:

As a test, I installed Mavericks on a clean external hard drive and then attempted to install CC apps on there. This worked fine. So it is something on my Mac HD that's causing the issue. I already repaired permissions. If this is something to do with a Media DB file, what kind of error is it and what can I do? I wonder if it's best to just back everything up, wipe the disc and do a clean install? -

Is it possible to install leopard from external USB DVD drive?

I've read through the various posts on the subject and there doesn�t seem to be a definitive answer on this. I've got a Lacie USB2 DL DVD drive which I'm trying to use to install leopard on an earlier MacBook Pro (core duo 2.0ghz). I've tried the various suggestions (hold c on boot, hold option key on boot, set dvd as startup drive), and so far been unsuccessful. The drive is just not recognized.
The DVD media is fine(I've got family edition of Leopard), I've successfully installed it on my G5. The Lacie drive recognizes it fine, when I'm in tiger on MBP and insert the disk it is mounted as I would expect. I did try dbl-clicking the install icon as well (in case you were wondering)
So, does anyone have any other ideas for me to try, or should I go and get a refund on the Lacie drive? The guys in the store (Apple authorized reseller, not Apple Store) assured me it would work, so I don't want to look like a clown if it is possible and I'm just doing it wrong

Thanks for the reply. Yes the MBP is currently running Tiger, I want to flatten this with a fresh install of Leopard. I can view the install DVD when in Tiger currently.
I haven't tried what you have suggested, but I have seen various posts suggesting this approach. I've also seen several posts explain how to create a partition on an external firewire Harddrive and this seems to have worked for various people.
This would however mean that I didn't really need the external Lacie drive at all, as I've got access to my G5s DVD drive over the network. The more I search on this, the more convinced I am the USB drive was a bad idea.

I have one the of the first iMacs and at the time I thought I didn't need a DVD Player. However, now I was thinking of buying an external DVD player/burner. Is it possible to upgrade to Tiger using the external DVD drive since I don't have an internal one?

I have an old AGP PowerMac G4 to which I have hooked an external Firewire DVD Drive. I have installed Tiger without any problems, using this drive. I see no reason why it couldn't be done on an iMac as well, (provided it has Firewire).
I don't think you could get it to work using an external drive hooked up via USB.

Possible Solution to "unsupported format or damaged file" errors on relink
Premeiere CC. I had a project file made on a MacBookPro OSX, had to make it work on Windows. Red footage: .r3d files. Was using same footage drives (formatted as FAT so could read and write on both operating systems), just moved from Mac to Windows. Knew i'd likely have to relink, but encountered problems relinking some of the media. The linker could find it, the files opened normally in Red Cine X, and could even be dragged onto the timeline. But they wouldn't relink!
Solution was to move my entire footage directory structure, which was at top level, into a brand new top level folder. This worked. I moved everything into a folder called "WindShiv" (call it whatever i assume), then the relinking still had to happen, but it worked this time.
I don't know if there are other solutions regarding folder structure that would also do the trick, or if now that it sees it i could re-move the directory structure back, but at least this fixed it for me so if you are having the same problems i did try moving your footage folders into a different place on your drive(s). Lucky happy cutting to you.For what its worth. I shot some DV 720x480 in 4:3 and 16:9 with my little DV camera and imported footage into my Avid MC. I repeated my earlier - posted steps and when I created and opened up the project in Ppro, this time not only did the sequence and files open up but my footage was on the timeline and I was able to play it without having to link to my Avid Media files!
When I tried before, all my footage was originated on BetaSP and DigiBeta at NTSC 720x486. Cannot Ppro bring in NTSC 720x486 or does it have to be NTSC DV 720x480
As I mentioned before I am a newbie to Ppro. When I created a new project and brought my 16:9 footage in, the source monitor is 16:9 but my sequence is in 4:3. In the Program Monitor I can click and hold the frame and move the 16:9 around within the 4:3 frame. Why is it not letting me see the full 16:9 frame. I created the project in 16:9. Any suggestions? XP Pro install fails on new MBP - Disk Error every time
I have a new 13" MBP. I set up a 50GB partition with Bootcamp but I get a 'Disk Error. Press any key to restart' message after I try to install XP.
I've just tried a second XP Pro install disk, both are legit and brand new. I wiped the partition with Disk Utility after the first failed install. Same error occurs.

I discovered it was slightly incorrect, but easy to overcome. Where he said that the prompt that comes up is C:\WINDOWS\, mine came up as C:\>, which is what it is supposed to be.
I was able to reformat my partition to NTFS and then do the full install.

The problem is commonly associated with expired signatures.
To fix the problem set the clock to a date prior to March 23 and try installing the software packages again.
