Possible worm on iMac

Hi all, some days ago, entering in the ebay homepage, I saw for the first time a big banner about "Teletua".... I'm searching some info about but nothing useful. After a full scan with MacScan nothing is changed, that banner is always there..... and someone talked me about uKomaria.worm . I have this problem on firefox (last version) and Safari (last version). Can anyone help me please?
Thank you all

HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
I did a Google search for "uKomaria.worm" but nothing was returned.
Snow Leopard has you covered...

MacScan or anti virus software on a Mac running Snow Leopard is redundant. eBay is notorious for banner ads. Just don't click on the ad and you'll be fine.

  • Possible to put iMac G5 HD into PowerMac?

I recently had my old iMac g5 die (logic board not Hard Drive).
I have an old Power Mac G5 with an open harddrive bay. Can I put the imacs HD in there to get my data? is there anything I need to worry about? Is it even possible?

Hi Ted, & welcome to the forum!
Looks like the earliest iMasc G5 had SATA drives, so it should be simple matter of putting it into a G5 tower that requires SATA drives also.
    No thing to worry about!

  • Is it possible use an iMac 21,5" as secondary monitor for windows 7 laptop

    Hello everybody,
Recently (less than one year ago) i bought an iMac 21,5".
Now i would like to use it as secondary monitor for my laptop. (My laptop runs Windows 7).
Is it possible? (I found conflicting opinions on the web, even on the Apple forum).
What type of cable do I need?
(I will appreciate also a link to the product on some online store: preferably apple store, but also amozon, ebay, etc.)
    Thank you in advance.

    SOrry to say, but no.
The 2011 iMacs can only be used as a second display via a Thunderbolt-to-Thunderbolt cable.
The other way around (from Thunderbolt-to-DisplayPort) would work.

  • Possible to use iMac itself as a router?

My iMac connects to the internet with wireless, so is it somehow possible to connect my Xbox 360 to my iMac with an ethernet cable and get it on the internet too? I don't want to buy a wireless adapter or a router so if this is possible it would be an ideal solution for me.
    Thanks,

No, Personal Web Sharing is the Apache server, I'm talking about Internet Sharing. I've only done it a few times and it seemed to only enable HTTP traffic. My girlfriend used to bring her iBook to my place and we didn't have enough ethernet ports so I turned internet sharing on a few times (before I caved and picked up an Airport Express), browsers were fine but Mail was not. If what you're saying is correct then I guess you could find out what port Mail uses and try opening the firewall to it?
Anyway the OP just wanted to use an XBox 360 didn't he? I imagine that only needs HTTP anyway, so my comments were unnecessary.

  • Elementary school, to many models, is is possible to cloning iMacs OS 9.2?

    Hi all,
I’ll try to keep this as short is possible.
I’ve recently been employed at an Elementary School, previous experience running a PC lab and part time helping at another school using eMacs.
The eMacs running 10.2 I have a little bit of a handle on but my current school has iMacs, eMacs and iBooks running different OS’s. Some are 9.1 some are 9.2 and some with 9/10 startup’s. I know I’m already showing my ignorance.
These poor machines have gone unattended for the last few years and left solely in the hand of teachers that haven’t even figured out e-mailing yet. Most are in sad shape and I can’t find any system disks. I did find one set of disks for the eMacs and discovered the joys of fireware and Carbon Copy. Finding one machine in rather good shape, I’ve updated, fixed minor errors and am using this one to close the rest of the eMacs. Now for the iMacs, most of the 9.2 OS iMacs have firewire and I’ve found two mostly unmolested machines. Some have 9/10.2 OS start disks but some are only 9.
I have been told that iMacs will not clone with Carbon Copy and I so need to fix these poor machines. Is there a way to, at least on the machines with firewire capability and running OS 9.2, clone these hurting machines off the healthy two I’ve found or am I sol?
(I will be conducting a total school inventory tomorrow)
Thank you in advance for any information you can give,
    With much apperciation,
    Joyce

Hi Joy, and Welcome to Discussions!
I'd recommend keeping the iMacs on 9.2 until you can get them all healthy. Then OS X (10) can be brought into the picture. First, you should try to find a Mac OS 9.1 or Mac OS 9.2 startup disk. I'd stay away from the System Restore disks that came with the computer unless you absolutely had to use them. I would try to format the hard drives and install OS 9. However, this may be impractical if there are many applications that the school uses. In that case, I would recommend getting a copy of Disk Warrior and running that, then using a Mac OS 9 disk to perform a Clean Install. (Note: If Diskwarrior is not available, or you do not have the correct, non OS X version, the Disk First Aid application on the Mac OS CD will suffice.)
A few notes about what I suggested above. If you have any sort of special hardware being used with the OS 9 machines, be sure you have the drivers available, or can locate them online. Mac OS 9 doesn't have many built-in drivers like OS X. Depending on your network settings, it may be hard to set up the iMacs again. If the iMacs are configured to use DHCP or something similar, it shouldn't be too hard. However, if they use manual setups, it may be very time consuming to get them set up again.
Regarding the eMacs, it may be best to do a reformat and install on one eMac and Carbon Copy that. An issue that may be going unnoticed now could become a headache later. However, I'm not as familiar with OS X.
You should really try to locate some system disks. Also, licensing for the operating systems should be taken care of, if it isn't already. One license comes with whatever OS the computer shipped with, and its restore disks. However, if you decide to upgrade them to 10.4 or something, licensing should be looked into.
Hopefully that will help a little.
    Kyle-

  • Possible to get iMac repaired without going to the apple store?

i recently purchased a 24" imac and called apple to request a repair due to a stuck pixel in the middle of my screen, very distracting, and i got a case number but was told that i need to take it to an apple store to have it looked at first and then the store would send it out to apple. not a big deal except for the fact that the closest apple store is nearly a hour away. so my question is, has anyone been successful in getting a prepaid box sent to their house for a non-portable instead of having to drive it to the apple store first? Thanks
    Ty

Could the apple store still decide differently?
They could, yes, once they examine the situation. A tech on the phone can only guess based on your description, so the tech at the store may come up with a different determination once he/she sees the system.
Also, there are also some "authorized service centers" that come up when i do a search on apples website... should i try one of those or just stick with the apple store?
Whether the case you've opened will authorize a service center to go ahead and replace the screen, or whether they'd be required to consult with Apple, I don't know. My guess is that the latter case is the one that would be correct; that the service center would have to examine the system and then contact Apple to see if Apple would authorize replacement of the screen. And as I said, it's very unusual for Apple (or any other manufacturer) to replace a screen for a single bad pixel.
So it's your call. If there's a service center near you and you want to try them, it might be worth the time, at least to call them and discuss the situation and see what they think.

  • 2nd monitor possible on new imac 24"?

I just ordered new imac (24"). Will I be able to hook it up to a 2nd (older Dell) monitor to expand the desktop? If so, what adaptor would I use?

For an external drive I'd recommend a Firewire 800 drive. Unless you are going to be running the computer from the external HD or doing high end video work FW 800 will be more than enough.
    The drives I'd recommend are:
OWC (www.macsales.com) Mercury Elite Pro series
    Lacie Quadra D2 series
    G-Tech G series
All have similar build quality and feature sets. Personally I use Lacie but wouldn't hesitate to use OWC or G-Tech either.
As time goes by there may be other solutions (splitters etc..) and I believe the TB port can daisy chain however you would need to find an external HD with a VGA or DVI output which I don't believe exists. Your alternative is to return the 21.5 and save more money until you can afford a 27".

  • Possible to use iMac 27" as monitor for PPC Mac Mini (DVI)?

This question appeared on the support community, about 4 years ago, but the adapter mentioned as a solution is now discontinued.

I have an old PPC-based Mac Mini that I would like to connect to my new iMac 27", but my Mac Mini has DVI output and the iMac 27" has Mini DisplayPort input. Is this the only way to connect a PPC Mac Mini (or any DVI device) to the iMac 27"?

I am in the same exact situation, and would appreciate any suggestions!

  • Possible worm or trojan horse?

I got my powerbookg4 (panther) back from apple repair today and now when I open up Safari I get a message from my isp "Spam Alert: Your PC may be infected with a virus that sends out large amounts of spam. As such, your outbound email service has been temporarily suspended." Click below for more information" When you click you get another message that explains that a large volume of outgoing mail has been detected and that it is indicative of a virus or trojan horse. I can click on a button to go to a free location to check out my system. That sounds suspicious in and of itself, but if you go directly to my providers website, they also link to the same place. Additionally, that site doesn't check safari browser, mac osx.
So this is perplexing. How do I know if this is possible on my machine? I rarely use my provider email, and all my email accounts go through apple mail. I logged on to my son's mac to see if he got the same thing, hoping the provider was just sending out random messages but it didn't occur on his machine.
Advice? Thoughts? I do not have a virus protection program on my mac, but I do not visit suspicious sites, do not download from unknown sites, all my music is from itunes, etc. Is the a reputable site I can use to check out my mac?
    Thanks

    Hi Carole,
I would ignore the on-line warning, especially clicking on the links. No telling what type of spam they'll produce. If you have concerns, call your ISP directly.
While you can certainly pass on a virus/trojan horse, etc. through an e-mail, these type of items do not affect the Mac.
To date, no virus has been written for the Mac (there was a suedo virus written earlier this year - much ado about nothing). From your description, it seems your surfing habits are quite conservative. If true, then Virus software would be unnecessary.

  • Possible hack for iMac not connecting at startup with WPA2

    Hi,
Like many others whose iMacs fail to connect at restart or after waking from sleep, I've tried all the suggestions with no improvement.
Then I tried the following (this is AirPort specific, but other routers may have the same setting):
    1. Open Airport Utility
    2. Click the AirPort Icon
    3. Click the Wireless tab
    4. Click Wireless Network Options...
    5. For WPA Group Key Timeout, change the popup from hours to days and enter e.g. 30 days
    6. Click Done
    7. Click Update and the AirPort will reboot.
After it comes back online, try rebooting your mac. YMMV, but if you're like me, the connect at startup issue will be fixed (at least for 30 days

Hi, this has worked for a few...
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.7…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    Click OK.
    Also, turn off IPv6:
    System Preferences » Network » AirPort » TCP/IP tab » Configure IPv6
    Or whatever Interface you use.
