Possibly ending video production with a Mac

Got a dilemma here. After several years of shooting videos with various camcorders and eventually editing with Final Cut and producing DVDs with DVD SP I think I may have run my course the Mac as the means to produce video work.
I have been thinking about getting a newer HD camcorder, the one that seems to appeal is the Panasonic TM700 Full HD 1920x1080p (50p) Camcorder. I have had 3 demos with this and its wonderful. The problem is that according to the sales assistant he didn't think that the Mac using FCS2 will capture from the TM700 at full res (1920*1080p).
Does anyone know if this is true?.
Add to that the ongoing problem of no blu-ray support from Apple I'm beginning to wonder if I'm finally going to have sell my soul to the devil and go PC.
I have never understood what the point in having all this wonderful HD product on FCS when it can't be bounced down to the best available consumer format (blu-ray) so that it can be viewed on my fabulous Pioneer HDTV.
I have heard that Adobe Encore will author blu-ray , is this so?. It looks so expensive though.
I would appreciate anyone's general thoughts on this.

2 things that will probably be essential are:
1. You must be using a mac with an Intel processor.
2. You must have at least Final Cut Pro 6 or Final Cut Express 4 to ingest and edit AVCHD. I don't know if this Panasonic is that or HDV. If it is HDV, then no problem - no intermediary codecs, etc.
Technology continues to change rapidly. One just has to keep up with the ramifications as far as hardware, Op Sys platforms and applications are concerned. if you do need to Upgrade, check Adobe Premiere out, it runs on both mac and PCs, and actually has to 'try harder" to please since they don't manufacture hardware. I use both as well as Avid.
I'd actually Google this as well as trying here.
Good Luck -

  • Is it possible to video ichat with windows?

    Hi,
I have a friend using a Windows XP pc and she would like to video conference with my Mac.
Is it possible for me to connect and have a video conference with a Windows XP guest?
    What software (application) is needed?
I am using iChat with my powermacG5, works great when I connect with other Mac.
    Thanks

    Hi
For AIM set-up for PC http://www.mvldesign.com/videoconferencetutorial.html#xp they must be using AIM5.9 and not AIM Triton.
You might have better success using Skype to a PC.

  • Is it possible to use aim with a mac for free?

Is it possible to use aim with a mac for free?

If you mean the application AIM for Mac, it will depend on your download speed.
If you mean "Can I use iChat with an AIM a screen name and does it cost anything ?" then the answer is Yes you can and no it does not cost and there is no download to do.
If you mean "Can I use the AIM service with an @mac screen name and can this be done for free ? " then the answer is again yes.
A trail account cost nothing and will work in ichat after the 60 days is up
A Paid for but Lapsed account will also work in iChat and for this purpose can now be considered free.
As I said and hinted at before your first question does not make it clear what you are actually asking.
The Application AIM for Mac is stuck at version 4.7 and does not do Video or Audio Only chats.
It has things that are useful in tweaking Buddy Lists in iChat but it is not specifically needed to contact AIM Buddies.

  • Is it possible to share networks with another mac (MacBook)?

Is it possible to share networks with another mac (MacBook)?
I want to be able to create a document on my computer and save it on both my MacBook Pro and another MacBook. Also, I want to be able to open documents saved only on the MacBook on my MacBook Pro. Is that possible on the same wirelss?
    Thank you!

You would not want to use ad hoc networking if you also need to access the internet. I'm not even sure it is possible.
How are you accessing the internet from these Macs now? If you have a wifi (or wired) network that you both access in your work location, you should be able to use File Sharing across that network, so you shouldn't need the ad hoc network.
    Some general observations:
You'll need a plan for how to keep straight which Mac holds the most current version of a file. That should probably be to keep each file in only one place (your Mac, the other Mac, a local file server, a cloud server). Even in our home, with one person doing most of the file accessing, I find a central location works best for this; in my case, that's a desktop system that stays on all the time, but a disk attached to my AirPort Extreme base station, a Time Capsule, or a NAS would serve.
If you make use of the portability of the MacBook[Pro]s to work in different locations, you'll also need a plan that includes that working away from the main work location. If you often work with common files while away from your main work location, a cloud solution may be best even with just two of you. Depending on the size of your files, one of the free cloud solutions may suffice; most offer paid expansion as your needs grow.

  • Is it possible to video chat with AIM 4.7 for Mac?

My wife uses iChat on her new iMac (10.4.x). I'm on military deployment with our old PowerBook G4 (10.3.9). I installed AIM 4.7 for Mac but not able to video chat with her. I can't find a video option in AIM 4.7. I have a USB webcam. Am I missing something?

    You need to use iChat.
AIM 4.7 for Mac does not Video.

  • Best 2013 Mac for Pro Video Production with FC Pro X?

We run a small video production company and it's time to upgrade. What is the best current Mac configuration and product for video production. I have a 2013 Macbook Pro that is maxed out but I get choked down by the video card when doing more than 3 multi-cams.
So we need some systems that can handle more cam views and that speeds up produciton.
    Thanks for your help.

I recently took possession of a new Mac Pro (8-core) and it's obvious that it "was made" for FCPX.  Unbelievable performance.  FCP7...oh well, it works as well as could be expected, but no miracles. It's an old app that doesn't benefit from all the cores and memory, but still my standard.

  • Using a panasonic video camcorder with a mac

We have bought a panasonic SDR-S26 and have managed to record one two-minute piece of film which I am finding impossible to upload onto the imac. The software which came with the camera can only be installed onto a windows pc. Is there anyone out there who can inform me how I am supposed to use this? There was no information saying it was incompatible with a mac when we bought the camera. (Still pictures can be taken on this camera and these have been uploaded with no problem).
I would be very grateful for any help or info.

    Hi anne adshead
Welcome to apple discussions. Might be too new of a camcorder to tell (you'll have to tell us) but here's what I found so far:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3290
It is listed within apple's KB. But as to how much apple support it offers? .... I'm not sure.
    http://panasonic.net/avc/camcorder/sd/america/products/sdr-s26/specifications.ht ml
The convenience of the SDHC format makes it is easy to transfer files. The S26 offers Mass Storage support – connect with a USB lead and your Mac sees all the files.
But here ends the Apple support. Video is recorded in the .MOD format (also used by JVC Everio camcorders) which Mac apps don't recognise. You can change the extension manually (or by batch command) to .M2V so that VLC plays it.
For iMovie and elsewhere, you'll need a conversion app such as Aimersoft Video Converter. Is it too much effort for what you get?

  • Cannot make a video connection with non-mac users (AIM Triton)

Whenever me and my girlfriend try to start a video chat, we get error messages on both ends. i know everything is up to date because i can chat fine with other mac users, but whenever i try to chat with someone who is using AIM Triton i cna never make a connection, even though iChat says i should be able to.
Which side dost the problem lie?
Answerer gets a cookie, haha, i've literally tried enough to get this fixed

    Hi
iChat does it's video streaming through Quicktime (I believe), it's why one way to solve a connection problem is to try this:
System Preferences>Quicktime>Streaming - set streaming speed to 1.5Mbps
Also make sure Bandwidth limit is set to None in iChat>Preferences>Video.
Restart iChat after making the changes.
It's a good idea, if you can, to post an error log (down as far as where the binary images start) & give as much info as you can as to your connection to the internet (make & model of modem/router etc).

  • How to start video chat with another mac

i tried to start a video chat with my daughter living in another province. what do we have to do to start the video chat?

Each of you needs and Apple ID and password so you can sign in to Face Time. Then one of you "calls" the other using the Apple ID or e-mail address of the person whom you are calling. The party being called will hear their Face Time start ringing with a new window that has an Accept and Reject button at the bottom of the window. Click on Accept to start up the call. It may take a few second for the two to sync up with each other.

  • Can't Video Chat with other .mac user

Been trying to video chat with a buddy. We both have .mac and AIM accounts. We are able to text when logged into AIM. Attempts to video chat can't connect.
Is this a problem because we are using our AIM accounts?
I'm tried logging in with my .mac account but it always shows I'm off-line in my buddy list. Can't seem to make it go online.
    Thoughts?

    Hi BlackGuns,
    Welcome to the  Discussions
It should not matter if you use an AIM Screen Name or an @mac one.
If you have an @mac one the Password should be 16 characters or less.
When you add a Buddy the top drop down allows you to specify the account name type.
Neither requires that you add a Suffix as the @mac ones are added by iChat.
    See here http://www.ralphjohnsuk.dsl.pipex.com/page6.html
Most likely it is spelling or Account type error

  • Video Chat with Non-Mac

I have been trying to video chat with a Dell Inspiron who has AIM and a webcam. Though the video icon doesn't show up next to the user name on iChat (only the telephone shows). I have changed my settings so that the bandwidth limit is 500 and the streaming speed is 1.5 like other directions said, but I still cannot even connect to video chat with this person. I am on wireless internet, but I am not sharing files. Like I have read in other posts, I am also getting the error -8 saying that there is no camera or that I have not accepted the invitation (even when I click accept). Is there any way to fix this problem?
    Thanks.

Has he done the bit to select his camera ?
    Open AIM
Press F7 > Use the Second item (Enhanced IM) > and select the camera in the drop down.
If his modem or router is using UPnP then he will need to allow that in the Vista Firewall
My understanding is that the Vista firewall is close enough for these instructions to be used http://www.ralphjohns.co.uk/page12.html#_Service
Of course if he does not have UPnP they he will need to open port 1024-5000 + port 5190 for AIM

  • Possible serious video glitch with games

Last night, I fired up the Quake 4 demo on my new 24-inch iMac. It worked properly the first time around, but when I quit after the second try the video was corrupted and I had to force the system to shut down.
When I restarted, it instantly went to a gray screen with no Apple logo and refused to advance further (I waited to be safe). Restarting again didn't help. It wasn't until I reset the PRAM (Command-Option-P-R for those who need to know) that it started up normally.
Now it could be just that Aspyr needs to update the demo, but my worry is that the Radeon HD 2600's video drivers may be undercooked in Mac OS X and could be prone to corrupting the image in certain circumstances. I'll have to try more games in the future to validate this.
Now if Apple could only do something about the glossy screen... it's vibrant, but it was already high-quality before! I'd have kept matte.

before i cry, please guys, tell me its a driver problem, not a hardware problem, cos apple took my old imac for 5 month cos they couldnt repair it, and i just received this one two days ago for exchange . so i'm gonna be crazy if this one need repair too.. i never had so much trouble with a brand...
I know what you mean. I feel much the same way. And I really do hope it is merely a driver issue of some kind rather than a hardware problem. If it is hardware, then it is the 3rd new Mac I have bought in a row that has been faulty
I do however suspect that it is software/drivers. Simply because im yet to read a single report from anyone saying that UT2004 does not crash at some point on their new alu iMac.
As i have said in numerous other threads now, I'll hold out for 10.4.11 or some other update of some kind that will hopefully fix it. If it does not fix it, or the update is not forthcoming very soon, then of course I will be complaining to Apple.

  • Cant video chat with another mac

We both have brand new macs and use mac.com id's and it will not let us do a video chat. We have changed the port, the streaming for quicktime, and the sharing. Nothing will let us connect using video. It works about half the time when I try to connect to his PC using his AIM account. We have tried changed which default IM application to use and it will not work. I am out of options and forums to read. I have all updates and so does he. Hope someone knows why this has happened.

    Hi,
    Welcome to the    Discussions
A routing device can often act as a hardware firewall if the ports that an app needs are not open or allowed.
    iChat 4 uses 20 ports
    5190, 5220, 5222, 5223, 5297, 5298, 5353, 5678, 16393-16402
Some of these are to login to AIM, some for Jabber Servers , some for Bonjour Chats and the last 11 for A/V Chats.
You will see that comes to 19. iChat 4 Screen Sharing uses a random port.
All these ports are above a threshold of 1024
Most routing device have ports below this threshold open so that Web Browsing and Mail apps work without any set up.
AIM on a PC uses port 5190 to login then needs 1024-5000 to be allowed (it does not use all of them at once). It does have however the ability to change the 5190 login port if it can not make contact with the AIM server, most often using port 80 the same as Web Browsing.
As Calling out will often open ports through your device you may have some success in one direction if one of you is allowing the correct ports.
