Possibly the first computer to ever birth a real live Yeti!

So heres the story.
The other day my computer while doing its usual computing processes decided to interrupt my concentration with a sound not unlike a Yeti or Chubakka's Mother-in-law. The sound was not constant in pitch or volume and fluctuated seemingly of it's own accord. This persisted for maybe 15 min while I just stood back in disbelief and to a certain extent fear for I was beginning to think that maybe it might explode or worse.
Once screaming fit had subsided I sat back down in front of it and noticed a somewhat faint but ever persistent "helicopter" rotor noise still emanating from underneath the key board.
Now I am fairly sure its not the optical drive because I tried some CD's in it and they worked fine, nor is it the hard drive as that is located in the bottom left quadrant of the computer and the noise was most certainly coming from the upper middle-left area.
I believe it may be the fan but am not positive. I tried calling Tech support but as I am not under warranty they wanted to charge me 50 bucs just so they could say "Hmmm, thats weird..."
So. My question to all who feel up to the task is this: Can you confirm my suspicions and tell me it is in fact the fan malfunctioning and how much it may cost to replace/fix.
OR
What else it may possibly be and also how much it may cost to fix/replace.
I have not gone to a Apple store because the nearest one is over 2 hours away.
Any help and input is VERY welcome.
-me-

Ok, that is what I was thinking too. And I do clean it, usually about once a month.
Thanks

I bought this very nice iMac. The first time I ever use a Apple product. Can someone please tell me where the delete key is on the keyboard. I cannot think for one moment that Apple did not provide for such a key. Please help.

The delete key does a backward delete because it is the natural way to delete while typing. May not be to you and the millions of youngsters who grew up with windows computers. When you are typing and want to delete that which you just typed you are already at the end and you delete back to where you want to re-type. When you go back to a document and want to delete a selection, you have to go to the end of the selection instead of the beginning. it's just the way its always been done on macs. it takes some getting use to.
If you select text to be deleted with your mouse then the delete key deletes the selected text. same for either delete key method.
It is not convenient when you tab to fields in a form. That why fn-delete does a forward delete.
Macs have a couple of keyboards. The small "wireless keyboard" only has the (backward) delete (fn-delete forward). The larger "Apple Keyboard with Numeric Keypad" has both a Delete (backwards) key beside the = abd it has the "delete >" key in the groups with fn, home, end, Pg up and Pg dn. This keyboard is best for users who have switched from windows or are familiar with the windows forward delete.

  • The first computer I Sync my iPhone to I don't have anymore I have 3GS I want to get all my photo, music off the phone I put on my new iPhone 4

I need help with syncing my old iPhone 3gs to anther computer so I can get all my music, photos apps, I don't  have the computer that I used first.

Your a bit stuck if you didn't back up your old computer.
But your apps can be re-downloaded later using your itunes account; you won't have to pay again.
You can download all your photos via wifi using an app like "wifi photo transfer".
There is no way anyone here can help you extract the music off your iPhone; iPhones were built to hold music to listen to, not to be able to get back off.
On the plus side again you can redownload all purchased music via itunes for free.
My advice would be to back up your computer this time.
And also to use icloud to back up your new iPhone.
If you have your old iPhone when you set up the new one it shouldn't take more then half a day to re-download everything and be close to the same.
    Good luck.

  • Can you sync your iPad to a different computer? (Not the first computer when you first sync-ed), without losing your files on the ipad? Please help ):

Please, can you tell me whether it works if you sync it to two different computers?

No! One device , one iTunes library.
    1. Without connecting your iPad to your computer -
    A) Install iTunes / make sure the latest version of iTunes is installed.
    B) Go to the Store tab and click on "Authorise This Computer".
    C) Go to Edit, click on Preferences and click on Devices. Put a check mark in the box next to "Prevent  iPods/iPhones/iPads from syncing automatically". Click OK and close iTunes.
    2.  Connect your iPad to your computer -
    A) Start iTunes (if it does not do so automatically).
    B) Right click on your iPad under Devices in the left column. Select "Transfer purchases".
    C) When the transfer has completed, right click on your iPad again and select "Backup".
    D) When the backup has completed, left click on your iPad, click on the Apps tab, and put a check mark in the box next to "Sync Apps", and then click on "Apply" (bottom right).
    E) Unless you want to always do a manual sync (as I do), go back to Edit, Preferences and uncheck the box next to "Prevent your iPod.....".
    F) Finally, on your iPad, check that everything is syncing properly. If not, go back to iTunes and check all settings.
NB You should not lose any apps. However, any 'purchased' missing apps can be downloaded again FOC. As with updates, this must be done with the Apple ID under which they were originally 'purchased'.

  • HT1296 how do I unsynch my iPhone with one computer in order to resynch it with another? could part of my problem be that I initially synched with the first computer under one apple ID then created a new ID so that the two different computers are recogniz

I,m having trouble unsynching my phone from one computer in order to synch it with a new one. I beleive that part of the problem is that I originally set the phone up with one Apple ID then changed to a new ID. Any thoughts on how to work around this? If not how do I erase the new Apple ID in order to make the switch from one computer to the other? this problem is also affecting my ability to make full use of some apps.

Switching Apple IDs and trying to synch with two computers is the problem.
The apps you purchase or download are always tied to the Apple ID that was used to purchase them.
Content synced from one computer will be lost when syncing to a different computer.
I suggest you make sure you have a backup of all the music, photos, and documents on the computer you plan to sync with from now on. Once you have done that you can use the Settings app to erase your device and start over.
Settings > General > Reset > Reset all Settings
Settings > General > Reset > Erase all Content and Settings
Then setup your device again as if it was new. Plan to use one and only one Apple ID. You can then sync with your computer which should be using that same Apple ID.
Pan to download all apps again. Apps that were purchased with the Apple ID you are now using can be downloaded for free. Apps that were purchased using the old Apple ID will have to be purchased again.
Obviously all free apps can be downloaded again without charge.

  • Quite possibly the stupidest iTunes question ever!

I almost never listened to iTunes until recently; I used it to manage content that I only listened to on my iPod. Now I find myself listening to iTunes a lot, seated in front of my computer.
Here's my question: Why do some playlists play straight through, while others don't? I have a few playlists that require me to click on each individual song to hear it - it won't just play through.
What do I need to do to make my iTunes playlists play all the way through?!?
Acer TravelMate 4070 1.73 Ghz 504 RAM Windows XP Pro SP2; iTunes v6.0.4.2

    hiya!
(sorry Zevoneer ... you answer wasn't displaying for me when i made my previous post)
I'll just have to get into the habit of unchecking them when I'm done, or I'll end up filling his iPod mini up with "crap" he'd never want to listen to. ;-)
hmmmm. using "Only update checked songs" can get a little unmanageable when you're trying to keep a lot of songs of an ipod.
why not try "Automatically update selected playlists only" instead?
create a new playlist ("mini syncing"?) containing the songs that you think he can stomach on the ipod.
then go into your "ipod" preferences tab (while the ipod is plugged in and showing up in the sourcelist), select "Automatically update selected playlists only", select "mini syncing" in the window under that, uncheck "update checked songs only", and click okay.
then you'd manage what goes on the ipod by moving songs in and out of the "mini syncing" playlist in itunes, and then syncing the mini.
(and you can recheck all the songs in your itunes library without having that affect what goes on the ipod.)

  • When i got this ibook g4 yesterday i couldnt access itunes. i didnt know what to do because this is the first time i ever used a mac os. i followed the steps to delete itunes on the apple support web page and now there is no existing file of itunes on my

There is no more existing file for itunes on my ibook and every time i try and download itunes it says cannot create file. Can anyone tell me what to do please?

Open the General section of Safari's preferences and check where Safari is trying to download files to; if this folder doesn't exist or is in a folder used by the system itself, change it to a location inside your home folder, such as the desktop, or another folder you can write to, such as /Users/Shared/. If the download folder is set to one of these locations and you get that error message, click on that folder in the Finder and then choose Get Info from the File menu. Under Ownership & Permissions, verify that you have read and write access to this folder and that the folder isn't locked, changing the settings as necessary.

  • How can I delete the first question, which is still there, that I ever asked in this community support, and that I have already had answered.

The asking of questions and responding to answers on the support pages is a bit more complicated than I think it should be. The first question I ever asked was answered by a community member, but when I go to ask other questions, that first question is still there. Somehow I bypass that at times and get another question in, as right now. But why does that first question remain? I thought I said in the answers that my question had been answered, and replied to the person who answered it with my thanks.

    Hi Ideato:
I was not talking about the questions that are in the question and answer section. I mean the question that I keyed in when asked for a summary of my question in one sentence, before it ever gets posted. You are right, of course, that questions and answers from someone else can be helpful to a lot of people.

  • What's the first thing you do with a new computer?

I'm getting a new MBP in a couple of weeks. I've been in the Mac family since my first Performa years and years ago. In the past, I've just opened up the box and started. This time I want to take a different approach and I'm wondering what sort of things you do to/with your computers when they are new and before you start loading them up with "all your stuff." Example: I've thought of using "Color Label" to code everything that originally comes with the computer in one color. Maybe what you do isn't "serious" but it's just about personalizing your Mac.
This will be the first computer I won't have to share with anyone else in the family! It will be mine, all mine. Mine, mine, mine!

First off, connect to AC and charge the battery fully. Within the first couple of days, calibrate the battery using these instructions:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1490
Otherwise, you really can just open the box and start.
Personally, though, I usually reinstall the OS from the Install DVDs that come with the MBP. I do an Erase & Install and I customize the installation to save space (for example, I don't use GarageBand so I omit that, along with limiting the language(s) and selecting only the printer driver families I'll need. Doing that saved me ~4 GB with Leopard (even large HDDs fill up eventually...).

  • I purchased multi-computer license of Lightroom. First computer loaded fine.  Cannot get the second one.

I purchased a multi-computer license of Lightroom 5.  The first computer was no problem.  I am unable to figure out how to get it onto a second computer.  I have an Adobe account and can sign in.  It shows my license.  How do I get it for my laptop?

Thanks for the reply.  I do not find a Creative Cloud APP.  I bought the license outright, not on a monthly fee basis.

  • HT1386 why wont my ipod sync anymore. is it because it the first touch version made?

why wont my ipod sync anymore? Is it because it is the first touch that ever came out?

No, first-generation iPod touches still sync just fine. Give us details about your computer, particularly the operating system and version of iTunes it's running, and the exact nature of the problem and someone can probably offer suggestions.
    Regards.

  • I moved some songs from one computer to another with home sharing and now these songs will not play on iTunes on the second computer.

What can I do without redownloading the songs, since I don't have access to the first computer right now?

Does it give a reason for why they won't play, or is that a secret?
Downloading (using iOS or computer) past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519 - enabled with iTunes 10.3 and newer; not all media formats are available in all countries (see: iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match Availability by Country - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5085); apps, books (not audiobooks), music, t.v. shows, and movies (some - not all studios have permitted this).  Downloading previously purchased movies and TV shows requires iTunes 10.6 or later.  Discontinued items not available. For items not included in the iCloud list (e.g., ringtones, audiobooks), or locations or computer systems where iCloud is not (yet?) available, you only get one download per fee paid.  Apple notes it is your responsibility to back up your purchases.
Select the iTunes Store on the left side of iTunes.
Click on Purchased on the right side under Quick Links.
You can re-download your available previous purchases.

This is normal auto-completion. You can stop it for this person by going to to menu Window>Previous recipients and locating their name in the list and removing it.
I can't answer as to the other issue - I just tested it with my account and it worked as expected.
