POST failure D-Link DWL-520+ Wireless

Problem after adding D-link DWL-520+ wireless card.  MSI 6195 Slot A BIOS A6195KMS V1.3, AThlon, WIN98SE with latest updates.
Fails in post 0101 VGA.  But is not entirely consistent.
Removed all cards except ATI RAGE II problem persists but can boot 10% of time.
Removed DWL-520+ and booted to alter memory range of ATI card.  Can now boot reliably and have wireless card working.  However system remains a little unstable with random lookouts.
Second DWL-520+ gives same symptoms.
Any suggestions please?

In fact D-link came up with the later driver (which incidently is freely available at http://www.dlink.com.tw).  So I made just one more attempt.
In between times I also tried this card in an ABit machine and it liked it even less!
So on about the 17th boot of the MSI6195 Win98 loaded and then after a while it locked up.  This process corrupted the Windows registry so badly that SCANREG was unable to recover the situation.
I am therefore returning my D-link 22Mbps PCI card and have instead deployed a Linksys USB adapter.  This interworks quite well with the remaining D-link PCMIA card and router.  Obviously this will be at 11Mbps instead of the planned 22Mpbs.  But that seems to be the price of reliability!
I can recommend the Linksys USB unit.  It's compact, USB powered and has one little wrinkle if anyone is interested.
Thanks for your help.

  • Setting up D-Link DWL-G710 wireless extender

    We have some wireless blackspots in our house so I'm trying to set up a wireless range extender. I bought the D-Link DWL-G710 which I imagined would work with my D-Link wireless router (DI624). I can get the computer to talk to the DWL-G710 and run through the set-up wizard but then - nothing. As soon as I remove the ethernet cable the DWL-G710 WLAN light goes out. I have been searching the internet to no avail - all I can glean is that this is an incredibly problematic device. Any help gratefully received. I know it has something to do with assigning static IP addresses but I'm missing some steps.
    Thanks!

    Don’t know if it will help but read this review: http://www.mandladventures.com/2006/09/21/d-link-dwl-g710-wireless-range-extende r-review/

  • Dell notebook with d-link DWL-650+ card can't connect to Airport

    I bought a new iMac G5 (with the intel duo) and an Airport Extreme. Sweet. No problems with either one. My son has a dell notebook (running Windows ME) with a D-Link DWL-650+ wireless card in it. (its a b card). I can see my airport network from this dell, but when I try to connect, it does nothing. The airport is configured for both b and g and this same Dell can connect to my neighbors wireless network just fine. My neighbor has a d-link b/g wireless router. Just wondering what the heck the problem could be. My neighbors laptop with built-in g can connect to my Airport fine. Is it because its an old b card or somthing? Any ideas?
    Thanks! Shako

    Did you open Airport and see if you see the wireless router? If you can see it, you can select it and then make sure it is set up properly in networks in the system prefs.

  • Airport Extreme & D-Link DWL G520

    Just bought a brand new Airport Extreme base station, and it works fine with my Mac & HP Laptop, but I cannot get my Desktop PC connected w/ D-Link DWL G520 Wireless Adpater. It just sits there saying it's "Acquiring Network Address".
    The base station is currently set to;
    Radio Mode: 802.11n (802.11a compatible)
    Channel: Automatic
    Wireless Security: WPA/WPA2 Personal
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

    The base station is currently set to;
    Radio Mode: 802.11n (802.11a compatible)
    Channel: Automatic
    Wireless Security: WPA/WPA2 Personal
    Your D-Link PCI card is a 802.11b/g device. You will need to change the radio mode on the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) to 802.11n (b/g compatible), 802.11b/g compatible, 802.11g only or 802.11b only in order for this card to connect.

  • Problem with D-link DFE 520 TX NIC.

    Hi,
    I got a internet connection (ADSL) recently.
    I can browse using Windows, but I cannot browse using Solaris 10 x86
    (6/06).
    I have a Gigabyte 8LD 533 Motherboard with 512 MB RAM, a D-link 520
    TX ( I did not have much options. Rest were either D-link cards that
    didnt look like they were
    supported by Solaris at all, or other cards that were way too
    expensive) and dual boot Windows XP SP2 and Solaris 10 x86 (6/06).
    I googled a bit and found that Realtec drivers seem to work for some D-
    link NICs so downloaded the RTLS211.zip file and unzipped the file.
    This file created rtls (which is
    32 bit executable), rtls.conf, Install (Installation script file) and
    the read me file for Solaris.Followed the instructions and added
    "pci1186,1405" in the Install file.
    Then rebooted Solaris. Got the following message:
    Notice:
    RTLS: version 2.1.1 (640909)
    RTLS Attach: Vendor ID: : 0x1106 Device ID: : 0x3106.
    Mar 22, 06:12:04 svc.startd[7]: svc:/network/physical/:default
    Method "/lib/svc/method/net-physical" failed with exit status 96.
    [network/physical.default misconfigured.  (see svcs -x for details).
    However, ifconfig -a shows rtls0 with the correct MAC Address of the
    NIC, but IP Address was set to 0.0.0.0.
    ( I hope I followed the readme file correctly, cause the first time I
    tried it, it said it could not attach a driver to it, but the next
    time when I tried it using the IDs after
    doublechecking the output of prtconf and then ran the install file, it
    said it had installed the driver).
    Hence tried manually setting the IP Address using the following
    command
    ipconfig rtls0 (I used the same IP Address which was shown by
    executing a ipconfig command in Windows XP).
    Trying ipconfig -a again,  it had taken the IP Address, the broadcast
    IP Address too had been assigned automatically, yet I could not ping.
    So googled again by typing the error message in search field and after
    that did the following:
    Updated the hosts file and the ipnodes file as shown:
    hosts file
    # Internet host table
    127.0.0.1       localhost       loghost ugrankar
    192.168.1.100   rtls0          loghost ugrankar
    ipnodes file:
    # Internet host table
    ::1    localhost       loghost ugrankar    127.0.0.1   localhost       loghost
    ugrankar
    ::2   rtls0              loghost ugrankar    192.168.1.100
    rtls0           loghost ugrankar
    Then ran the command svcadm clear network/physical.
    Still no go.
    Am I doing something wrong here? May be a very basic mistake? This is
    my first time trying to get online with Solaris 10. Please let me
    know.
    Also see below some more files that might make things clearer.
    Here is how my Install file looks:
    #!/bin/sh
    basedir="/"
    drvname=rtls
    drvconf=rtls.conf
    set -x
    # install driver
    cp rtls ${basedir}/kernel/drv/${drvname}
    cp rtls.conf ${basedir}/kernel/drv/${drvconf}
    chmod 755 ${basedir}/kernel/drv/${drvname}
    chown root:sys ${basedir}/kernel/drv/${drvname}
    # update
    # /etc/driver_aliases
    # /etc/name_to_major
    # grep "^${drvname}\>" /etc/name_to_major > /dev/null 2>&1 \
    && rem_drv -b ${basedir} ${drvname}
    #add_drv -v -b ${basedir} -i '"pci1186,1301" "pci10ec,8139"' $
    {drvname}
    add_drv -v -i '"pci1186,1405" "pci10ec,8139" "pci1113,1211"' $
    {drvname}
    exit 0
    And this is how my rtls.conf file looks:

    Is this happening because there is no driver for D-link DFE 520 TX on
    Solaris 10?
    Googled once again and found out the following link:

  • Hp6700 Printer: can't connect to D-Link DI-514 Wireless Router when Broadcast SSID is set to NO.

    HP6700 Printer:  can't connect to D-Link DI-514 Wireless Router when Router Broadcast SSID is set to NO. My MAC LapTop and HP LapTop both work with the SSID set to NO. If I change the Wireless Router to Broadcast SSID is YES, then the HP6700 Printer can connect to the Wireless Router. I setup the Printer telling it what the SSID and Password were, the same as both of my LapTops, but it never connects, unless I change the Router to broadcast the SSID. Help!
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Did you try updating the firmware on the DI-514?
    You can also try setting a static IP on the printer, then assign the printer to the static DHCP list in the router interface.
    To give your printer a static IP address:
    - Print a Network Config Page from the front of the printer. Note the printer's IP address.
    - Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
    - Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.
    - On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). If you do not know the range, change the last set of numbers (those after the last '.') to 250
    - Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)
    - Enter your router's IP (on the Network Config Page) for the gateway.
    - Enter 8.8.8.8 for the first DNS and 8.8.4.4 for the second DNS. This is Google DNS. You can choose another external DNS if you wish.
    - Click 'Apply'.
    Now, shut down the router and printer, start the router, wait, then start the printer.
    After this you will have delete and re-add the printer on your Mac.

  • Patch for D-Link DWL-122

    I tried installing my DWL-122 adaptor. The installation worked but when I tried to open D-link with system preferences, I got a notice saying D-link panel could not be opened in systems preference. I contacted D-link and they told me to call apple and ask for a patch to connect D-link to version 1.32. Any ideas? What the heck is a patch?

    hiya,
    just to let u know i have the same d link dwl 122. i have had no problems with the adapter as i have used a 3rd party driver that u will find below on this link.
    http://macupdate.com/info.php/id/15997
    This adapter is know to have problems but this fixes it all as it has now made the d link dwl-122 a cheap partner for wireless networks.
    hope this is what u r looking 4.
    As for the memory u must switch off the ibook and open the keyboard via the latches near the esc and f12 buttons. then to open up the airport slot and then just plug in the new memory. see user manual that came witht the ibook.
    kind regards

  • D-link DWL- G122 (v C1) troubleshooting help needed

    I am really trying to sort out my wireless connection (on my G4 Powerbook Titanium) via a d-link DWL- G122 ( version C1). It used to work OK. Now it doesn't. This could be due to: upgrading to 10.4.8 from 10.3.9? (can't really remember if the connection dropped from that time) Neighbour setting up a wireless router? (but I've tried switching channels).
    Now, I'm using the RA driver, which is 10.4 compatible. I've also downloaded and tried the d-link 10.4 driver for this model (via the Canadian site). I've tried both, and both 'sometimes' work and sometimes don't.
    The frustrating thing is that if I ever get a connection which stays with me, it's 100% good and solid as a rock. When it's like this I've walked all over the house with the powerbook and it works in every room. So I KNOW it can be great.
    Usually though, there is no signal detected. Or it detects a signal, but when I highlight it and press connect the signal disappears. Or it will connect for 20 seconds and then the signal disappears. But like I say, on the rare occassion it detects a signal, lets me connect and stays connected it will be solid as a rock. Even if the tibook goes to sleep and wakes up. But if I do a restart I will be back to square one, no signal, maybe a signal... even if the dongle and computer has not moved at all.
    Now, I'm thinking it could have something to do with Network prefs. If I go to Prefs/Network and select automatic for location, and 'show Network status' I get an amber light in the box below, next to Ethernet Adaptor (en1) (which I think is the dongle). Next to this it says:
    Ethernet adaptor (en1) is currently active. Ethernet adaptor (en1) has a self-assigned IP address and may not be able to connect to the internet.
    Is that a clue?
    If I select Location - Automatic, and Show: Ethernet Adaptor (en 1) I get a box with TCP/IP/PPPoE/Apple Talk/Proxies/Ethernet across the top. In the TCP/IP section there is 'configure IPv4: using DHCP' but there is no IP address and nothing else in any of the boxes you are able to add things.
    Should it have an IP address in there? If it should how can I add one? If anyone can help you will have to explain things in a clear and straightforward manner as I know nothing about Network settings. If you've got this far THANKS FOR READING, and if you are going to try to help me then YOU ARE A GOD!(or Goddess of course)
    I'd love to sort this, I know I could just throw in the towel and buy a 3rd prty cardbus thingy, or even an airport card (if I can get one!) but I love a challenge. Been experimenting on this for two days now, just trying to find a common thing as to why it sometimes connects but mostly doesn't and I'm stumped. Grrrrrr.... I only bought this d-link because December Mac World said it was a plug and play wireless dongle, and being a novice I trusted them.
    By the way, my router is a Netgear DG834G v2.

    Me again. I've fiddled with this thing so much I've lost track of exactly what I've done and undone. But this much is true: Currently running on the ralink driver. In Network Port Configurations I deselected all except Ethernet Adaptor (en1) which I also dragged to the top (this seemed to help - thanks BDAqua!). And I have to unplug on restart and only plug in again when I see the desktop (including dock) - this I learnt from another forum. Then I get a signal in wireless utility, which connects straight away and stays rock solid.
    But I've found a few interesting things. It seems to be a problem with the stick finding the right IP address.
    When I've got my rock solid connection and I check my Prefs/Network/Automatic/Network Status it shows a green light and tells me the Ethernet Adaptor (en 1) (which is the d-link stick) is currently active and has the IP address of xxx.xxx.x.x. And I am connected to the Internet via Ethernet Adaptor (en 1).
    If I restart and don't unplug/plug in the stick the Wireless Utility can't find a signal. If I then check the Prefs/Network/Automatic/Network Status it shows an amber light and tells me the Ethernet Adaptor (en 1) (which is the d-link stick) is currently active But it has a self-assigned IP address and may not be able to connect to the internet. When I check the self-assigned IP address it's completely different from one above.
    Now, that got me thinking that I could manually put in the address, which I tried (still in Automatic). Pressed Apply Now. But still couldn't get a signal in the wireless utility box. I rechecked Prefs/Network/Automatic/Network Status and it tells me I am connected! But when I try to open a page in a browser the browser tells me I'm not.
    So then I tried to make a New Location - thinking that I could just switch to that instead of having to restart/unplug/plug. Added all info manually (which I'd copied when I had a good connection in Automatic) - so to all intents and purposes it was exactly the same as the Automatic/Ethernet adaptor (en 1) setting. But the result was the same as para above- no signal in wireless utility box, but it thinks it's connected.
    I'm no expert but that doesn't make sense to me.
    If anyone can add any info that would be good. Just trying to solve this plugging/unplugging business. But at least it's working via the tedious unplugging/plugging technique.

  • D-Link DWL-650+ and ndiswrapper

    Hello everyone
    So after days and days of researching and fiddling around and still no wireless, I figured it's about time I should simply ask and see if I can get it to work.
    Let me start with short summary of my dilenma:
    The computer I have is a Dell Inspiron 8200 with P4M 2.2Mhz CPU, 756MB RAM, nVidia GeForce4 440 Go with 64MB RAM, 40G HD laptop, dual-booting with WinXP (wireless works on XP, and I need this connection for studies and research. Windows resides on my HD only because of that). I use a D-Link DWL-650+ AirPlus card (yes, not so Linux friendly card, I know ), works perfectly fine on Windows, and ndiswrapper installs the driver and hardware is detected on Arch. Installation, modprobe have been already done, and iwconfig tells me
    lo        no wireless extensions.
    sit0      no wireless extensions.
    eth0      no wireless extensions.
    wlan0     IEEE 802.11b  ESSID:"IHTTIWIFI"

    The key, mode and security mode were put in by me, ESSID, AP and others were picked up by the card. So the card is scanning and picks up the signal. iwlist wlan0 scan shows:
    [root@Brahms ndiswrapper-0.10]# iwlist wlan0 scan

    Looks okay. So I kill the eth0 connection, and try to ping, I get:
    [root@Brahms ndiswrapper-0.10]# ping www.apple.com
    ping: unknown host www.apple.com
    Okay...So I suppose even though the card picks up the signal, it's not connected, right? /etc/rc.d/network start (or restart for that matter) comes up "fail". I am lost at this point. Probably some configuration error somewhere but I don't know much about networking and I've been trying different things, check the web for clue, but so far nothing worked. While trying to connect through wireless, no firewall was used.
    If someone could point me to the right direction, I would really appreciate it. Not all things iwconfig and ifconfig make sense to me really. At one point, I got so discouraged, I was contemplating on installing Mandrake again (I'm still a newbie though. I used Mandrake 10 Official for a couple of weeks back in June, and then moved to Arch, getting my hands dirty. It has been a wonderful experience for me so far )
    Before it gets too long, I would like to thank you in advance

    p.s. What are those TX/RX Packets errors?! I suppose...errors, eh?

    I'm very sorry for the late reply! First of all, thank you so much for the pointers.
    Just today, I finally got it to work. I have been busy and I was actually away from computer for a couple of weeks, finally got around to get some going. I've copied and pasted the default gw, inet addr and so on from my Windows wireless configuration program, and talaan! It worked
    Thank you so much.

    Greetings,
    I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
    At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
    The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
    I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
    You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.
    Good Luck - Cheers,
    M.

  • TP-Link TD-W8961ND Wireless-N ADSL2+ Modem Router ...

    has or are anyone using this TP-Link TD-W8961ND Wireless-N ADSL2+ Modem Router - Version 2 instead of the bt home hub 3?  i need some help because all i get is dropouts after i have set the settings up in the device i use the defualt settings advised in the set up instructions tp link give, ive been told my line adsl may be to slow for this kind of adsl router. so have for now gone back to the hhub 3 here are the results from the nhub3 today. can someone explain this to me G.992.1 Annex A
    ADSL Settings
    VPI/VCI:
    0/38
    Type:
    PPPoA
    Modulation:
    G.992.1 Annex A
    Latency type:
    Interleaved
    Noise margin (Down/Up):
    8.7 dB / 24.0 dB
    Line attenuation (Down/Up):
    48.3 dB / 29.5 dB
    Output power (Down/Up):
    19.3 dBm / 12.2 dBm
    FEC Events (Down/Up):
    585803 / 1
    CRC Events (Down/Up):
    347 / 3
    Loss of Framing (Local/Remote):
    0 / 0
    Loss of Signal (Local/Remote):
    0 / 0
    Loss of Power (Local/Remote):
    0 / 0
    HEC Events (Down/Up):
    1822 / 0
    Error Seconds (Local/Remote):
    196 / 4

    The connection speed is missing from those hub3 figures.
    G992.1 is ADSL max, up to 8Mb, which is compatible with all routers. Perhaps you have the settings wrong on the TP link one.
    There is some information on this page, which should also apply to the 8961ND.
    Using the TP-Link TD-W8960N instead of the BT home hub
    You can ignore the DNS settings and leave them at default, if you do not want to use OpenDNS.

    I'm feelin' kinda stupid, and frustrated too!
    obviously, I found the "post new topic" link for this forum, so I don't think it's a browser issue (firefox 1.5.0.10, windoze XP). also, I have signed in with my apple ID.
    here's the link to the forum to which I want to post:

    Hi Ellsworth!
    Here is some additional information.
    If you have a question about using Discussions, from this page Feedback about Discussions, click on Post New Topic.
    If you have a Technical question about Apple Hardware, Programs, Services, Technology, Software, Applications, Products, etc, from this page Discussions - Forum Home, select an appropriate Category from one of the twelve divisions.
    For example, under Mac OS X Related Software, choose the Category Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger.
    On the page that opens, select a Forum, such as Installation & Setup, or Using Mac OS X Tiger.
    Most Category pages, have numerous Forums within them.
    But some may have only one, two, or three.
    For example the Safari Category page has three choices listed under Forum / Category, but only one is a Forum: Safari Support forum.
    On Forum pages, there is an option to Post New Topic.
    Click here for all iPod Forums.
    Click here for all iTunes Forums.

    It can be confusing, but explore the different areas, and you will acquire a better understanding of the hierarchy.

  • Neither my iPhone or iPad will print wirelessly to my Epson 520 wireless printer

    Neither my iPhone or iPad will print wirelessly to my Epson 520 wireless printer. My iMac running on OS X 10.6.8 will print wirelessly to the printed but it has an Epson file installed. What do I need to do?

    Be sure you're on the same Wi-Fi netwerk as the printer, then you can use this App; http://itunes.apple.com/app/epson-iprint/id326876192?alreadyRedirected=1&mt=8

  • Issues with D-Link - Xtreme N Wireless-N

    I recently purchased a Time Capsule with full intentions of supporting both my Macs as well as Windows machines (for use with Wireless N)
    While the Macs are fine I am having problems connecting with D-Link - Xtreme N Wireless-N
    These cards connect fine to every other Wireless-N product except the Time Capsule.
    I can connect the D-Link - Xtreme N Wireless-N to the Time Capsule but only at 54Mbps which tells me it is using 802.11g not N. I have updated the Time Capsule settings to make the 5GHz band visible on its own SSID which of course the D-Link - Xtreme N Wireless-N does not see.
    Any help??
