Post Installation for SCOM 2012 R2 !
Hello,
I am new to SCOM 2012 R2, I have just installed in our environment and added 1 SQL and 1 SharePoint 2013 Server for monitoring. I downloaded Management packs for those.
However, I can see SQL Server is in monitoring state but not SharePoint 2013 Server.
Under the SharePoint >Administration, Microsoft SharePoint Farm group this option is NOT Monitoring.
Is there anything else I need to do ?
Kindly help me.
BR.
Hi,
Did you read the 'system_center_monitoring_pack_guide_for_microsoft_sharepoint_server_2013.docx' before import?

Windows Monitoring Checklists for SCOM 2012 R2
Hi All,
We are in SCOM 2007 to 2012 migration stage where we will have to check Windows monitoring with SCOM 2012 that how it works better than 2007, what all new components to be considered and focused. Kindly share if you have any checklists to be verified before
we proceed further. Usually resources like CPU, Memory, File System and Network Performance, Services, events and logs monitoring would be considered. Help to get if anything I missed to list out here.
Thanks.

Raj.Hi,
If you are looking for system requirements for installation of SCOM 2012 R2, please refer to the below link:
System Requirements: System Center 2012 R2 Operations Manager
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn249696.aspx
And more details about how to upgrade from SCOM 2007 R2 to newer version, the below article should be helpful.
Upgrading from System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh476934.aspx
We should import management packs according to your environment and your need. For example, to monitor Windows operating system, we should import Windows operating system management packs.
To monitor AD, we should import Active Directory corresponding management packs.

Post Installation for SAP PI 7.0

Post Installation for PI Usage
We are unable to run the POSTINSTALL steps of technical configuration for the PI usage at the NETWEAVER Administration -> Deploy and Change. As such, during configuration of the PI, there was Integration Server for selection.
We know the reason why the post installation did not successfully completed. The reason was that the SLD was previous pointing to another SLD port 50100. We have since corrected the port (50000) in all the configurations but during this step (POST INSTALL for PI Usage) it still points to the incorrect port.
How can we change the port for this PostInstall process in the Deploy and Change? If not, is there a manual step to complete this operation.
I have include the steps to this error:
(A) Post Installation for PI Usage
1. Start brower http://calypso:50600/nwa
2. Deploy and Change
3. Select "PI_00 This wizard will execute the PostInstall Steps for technical configuration for PI Usage"
4. The Error pops at "Step26/142 Add Installed Product2" (because the port was set to point to 50100 instead of correct 50000). Note that the port was since corrected, and in all configuration for SLD in VA, REP, is all showing correct port number already.PiPostInstallProcess

Post-installation for BW, help
Hi
this is min from india and i want help on steps for the post installation for BW 3.1. i cant work in rsa1 as told in groups i have done the client copy and kept the default profile still i cant work in that rsa1.some where i am doing the mistake can any one plz tell the post installation steps plzz its urgent to me
thanksHI:
The real problem is that you have installed a version that is about to go out of maintenance at the end of this year. It does not make sense to use 3.1 for a new installation. If you are performing a new installation, it is recommended to utilize the current version, SAP NetWeaver BI 2004s. If for some reason you are unable to install the current version, at the very least install the 3.5 version.
Please see this area:
http://service.sap.com/~form/sapnet?_SHORTKEY=01100035870000632586&
If you persist with your (ill-adivsed) new installation of 3.1, and this problem continues, please provide the exact error message that you receive when you attempt to go into RSA1.

Maintainence Mode script for SCOM 2012
Hi All
Currently we use PowerShell script to place servers in maintenance mode (SCOM 2007 ). While executing the script we specify a text file which contains list of agents.
Am looking for same type of script which can work for SCOM 2012. After searching I got the MM tool for placing agent or group in Maintenance. Instead I would need the script to get agents from text file. Also it should check if agent is part of
cluster and place related cluster also in MM.
Let me know , if any one can help me here.

Hi,
The following article is for SCOM 2012/2012 SP1:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/7375.configuring-sudo-elevation-for-unix-and-linux-monitoring-with-system-center-2012-operations-manager.aspx
The questions are:
Did the Sudoers configuration changed from SCOM 2012 SP1 to SCOM 2012 R2?
If yes,
Where is information about sudoers for SCOM 2012 R2?
Thanks in advance!I've updated the wiki to indicate that the same examples apply to SP1 and to R2. Thanks for pointing this out so we could get it fixed.

Which type of SQL DB do I need for SCOM 2012?
Hello everyone,
We would like to install a SCOM 2012 Server for reporting and alerting of our Exchange and Lync Server.
Our guys from database management asks me, what type of SQL DB do I need. "An SQL DB with 100GB" shouldn't be enough :-( I'm not very familiar with SQL.
So, which informations could be missing?
Thanks in advance and best regards
Daniel
Beste GrüßeDaniel,
usually Standard Edition is enough and included in the SCOM (agent) license.
Here you find more about requirements:
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn249696.aspx
SQL specific:
Check for updates and hotfixes for Microsoft SQL Server. See
SQL Server in System Center 2012 R2.
Operations Manager does not support hosting its databases or SQL Server Reporting Services on a 32-bit edition of SQL Server.
Using a different version of SQL Server for different Operations Manager features is not supported. The same version should be used for all features.
For SQL Server collation settings, see
SQL Server in System Center 2012 R2
The SQL Server Agent service must be started, and the startup type must be set to automatic.
The db_owner role for the operational database must be a domain account. If you set the SQL Server Authentication to Mixed mode, and then try to add a local SQL Server login on the operational database, the Data Access service will not be able to start.
For information about how to resolve the issue, see
System Center Data Access Service Start Up Failure Due to SQL Configuration Change
If you plan to use the Network Monitoring features of System Center 2012 R2 Operations Manager, you should move the tempdb database to a separate disk that has multiple spindles. For more information, see
tempdb Database.
You should have a look at the sizing calculator:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/C/A/6/CA60425C-950B-456E-986C-C5F2FCD5668D/System%20Center%202012%20Operations%20Manager%20Sizing%20Helper%20Tool%20v1.xls

SSRS for SCOM 2012 need separate instance of SQL
Hi All,
My customer has planned to install SCOM 2012 R2 in their environment. I designed for them as followings:
Planned 3 MS servers namely, MS1, MS2 & MS3
The rolls planned on those MS servers as follows:
MS1 – Management Server,
Operation console & Web console
MS2 – Management Server,
Operation console & Web console
MS3 – Management Server,
ACS, SQL Reporting services & SCOM Reporting server
Customer has their existing SQL cluster database configured. This existing SQL database is also utilized by other applications.
I am planning to keep all the SCOM databases (Operation Manager DB, Operation DW DB, Reporting DB & ACS DB) on the central location on SAN storage of the SQL cluster.
For this, I requested to customer for a new instance of SQL to install SCOM DBs & SQL Server Reporting services.
Customer raised a concern on Why would need to install the databases & SQL Server Reporting services on a separate instance.
I replied as, The new instance requested will host the databases along with the SQL Server reporting services (SSRS).
The installation of SQL server report server will integrate the security of selected SSRS instance with Operation Manager role based security. Any reports that were previously installed on this
SQL server instance might become inaccessible. No other applications that are using SQL Server Reporting Services can be installed on this instance of SQL Server.
On this, Customer says if SSRS is planning to install on the MS3 server then there would not need to create a separate instance on SQL cluster. We can go with the existing instance for installation
of SCOM databases on SQL cluster and SSRS on MS3 server.
I need your inputs on this, as can I still require the new instance of SQL on SQL cluster or can go with the existing instance for installation of SCOM databases on SQL cluster and SSRS on MS3 server.
Kindly provide your inputs.
Regards,
SandeepKAlthough SCOM can share a single instance running SQL Server to store data, this is not a recommended configuration. The SSRS is the same, no document says that it can be shared with others.

Hello,
i've got a problem about JEE MPs. i'm using SCOM 2012 and i imported JEE MPs. in readme.txt said "When you’ve imported the Java Management packs matching your environment the application servers will be automatically discovered " but when i click the Monitoring/Application
Monitoring/Java Monitoring/JEE Application Server all of them is empty. No Profiles,no Applications..
am i do something after imported JEE MPs??
Thanks

MCTIf you analyse the object discovery of Websphere, you can find the method SCOM discovers the installation
=> it searches through all registry hives (as the IBM Installer adds the settings into the user's path who's installing WebSphere) - it should look like this :
If you've installed "WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment", it won't find the installation. However, to override this, just export the registry path, modify the key, and import it (I assume this is not supported but it works..)
After it discovers the installation, it starts discovering a specific XML file in the profiles-folder of websphere.
=> It seems that this MP does not support WebSphere Clusters spread among multiple systems, that's maybe the reason why it searches only for "WebSphere Application Server". Also WebSphere 8 will not be discovered.
This is very helpful information, thank you for sharing.
As for the no cluster support, did you happen to investigate to see if there is a solution/workaround? -
Recommendations for SCOM 2012 -- 2012 R2 migration
Hello to all. I have a customer that has SCOM 2012 in its IT environment but uses it barely and does not have any documentation. I proposed to install a new Manament Group (MG) and "reboot" to a paralell SCOM 2012 R2 considering the
use of new features present on 2012 R2.
Questions:
1- Does SCOM support a side by side migration strategy , like SCCM 2007 R2 --> SCCM 2012 R2 that takes its main source objects and bring them to the new separated Management Group (the SCOM 2012 R2)?
2- Considering that all regular member servers are monitored by SCOM 2012 (all have agents installed), what is the recommended way to to install SCOM 2012 R2 agents on them (multi homed deploy, deploy a new agent and it will upgrade/remove the
already existing SCOM 2012, etc)?
3- Does SCOM allows a approach to install a SCOM 2012 R2 on already existing SCOM 2012 MG and "migrate" its objects to new server and after that decomission SCOM 2012 (the old version)?
Your inputs and references will be very welecomed.

Post installation for Portal and errors for new system
I've recently installed a NW 7 based ABAPJAVA System with Portal Components (EPEP Core) on Windows + Oracle for demo.
1 ) Since, I am facing a lot of errors after the installation, I think I have missed to carry out some post-install steps. Can someone please suggest on the post-installation steps in some detail ??
2) When I try to open the newly installed portal using http://fqdn_host:50000/irj ; the browser shows some exception has occurred: However, I tried to restart the system (everything including db) as suggested in some of the other links and login went fine.
After I logged in to the portal (/irj) as j2ee_admin; I am trying to open Content Administration --> Portal Content OR System Administration -> Transport OR --> System Configuration etc ; but I am getting the error coded below::
An exception occurred while processing a request for :

Error occurs during the rendering of jsp component.
Exception id: 05:05_25/03/10_0032_7012350
See the details for the exception ID in the log file
The log file (that I believe is the trace file in cluster/server0/log/defaultTrace.0.trc) says (This gives several such exceptions listed in the file.) (I'll put the log as a comment to the post because of the limit on max characters)
Note that the link http://punitp84712d:50000/nwa works absolutely fine. PFB the J2EE process details.
J2EE Process Details
Name Type PID Status Debug
Dispatcher ID7012300 J2EE Dispatcher 3,240 Running Disabled
SDM SDM Server 4,736 Running Switched off
Server0 ID7012350 J2EE Server 596 Running Disabled
Can someone please help me through this and let me know how did you draw your inference. Let me know if there is any other place that can give me more information / logs on the error.
Thanks,Hi Jay,
Please check that server is Running but not able to open some application. I would suggest to check the Enviromental Variable for My Computer :-
- Database Enviromental variable is added or not under "user vairable for <UserID for Server Desktop>
- Check JAVA_HOME Enviromental variable is added or not under "System Variable'
Check at (My computer > Properties >> Advance >> Startup and Recovery >> Enviromental Variable >> System Variables/User varaible
Update your server IP address and host name in host file entry at (RUN > drivers > etc > host file) and check database server services (Run > Services.msc >> Start your database services manually and change prperties as automatic)
Then try to open portal URL http://<Host>:<Port>/irj/portal or http://<Host>:<Port>/index.html
Hope it helps

Installation of SCOM 2012 R2 with Orchestrator 2012 SP1 already installed
I'm new here and found this set up.
SCOM 2012 SP1 that was mis-installed badly. No DW, no Data Read or write account used. SPN's missing etc. Nothing is working on the SCOM Server. It's not connected to any other parts of System Center.
Orchestrator 2012 SP1 installed and seems to be working fine.
I know that I'm suppose to upgrade Orchestrator to R2 before upgrading SCOM 2012 to R2. But, I need to install SCOM 2012 R2 right now to ensure monitoring is in place. The question I have is can I install a fresh SCOM 2012 R2 and then go back and upgrade
Orchestrator to R2 or do I have to upgrade Orchestrator 2012 to R2 before I install the new SCOM 2012 R2?Hi Bigredchief,
Yes, it's recommended by Microsoft to update the Orchestrator first and then SCOM.
Look at the diagram between SC components here:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/13188.system-center-2012-integration-guide.aspx
and for Orchestrator here:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/13185.system-center-2012-integration-guide-orchestrator.aspx
It’s clear visible from diagrams that SCOM monitors the Orchestrator by Management Pack and Orchestrator is connected to SCOM by Integration pack through Operations Manager SDK connection. The second link as well describes the integration between these 2
components of SC (see #5.3).
You should analyse your System Center components integration, and check if any Orchestrator runbooks communicate to SCOM. In general it will be 2 risk components in such upgrade (SCOM and then Orchestrator) in my opinion - not supported officially by MS
in case of any issues, and stopped working SCOM connected runbooks.
