Post Mavericks Upgrade Speed Problems

I would appreciate it greatly if someone would be kind enough to review my etrcheck scan and help me determine which processes are causing response problems and occasional hangs. I was able to "repair" a recent Mail problem by (1) installing the recent mail update to help with Gmail and (2) completely uninstalling SpamSieve and then reinstalling it. I also installed the script to speed up the way SpamSieve hanfles trained "spam" messages.
Nevertheless, Activity Monitor shows occasional non-responsive processes--especially Google related-- and I thought a scan by others would be a good way to get fresh eyes on identifying other problems.
Thank you in advance for your help!
With that said, below is the etrecheck report:

I would un-install CleanMyMac, which isn't loading, and CleanMyMac2. Written by Thomas Reed, a knowlegable poster in the communities.

Techtool Pro also causes problems for some. Un-install using the developer’s instructions to make sure you remove all parts of the application. Some people recommend not installing an application unless you know how to remove it.

  • Post mavericks update freezing problem

I am apparently another who has had their awesome Macbook pro 5.5 mid 2009 corrupted by an update to Mavericks, or something. It is beyond my skill set to figure it out. Can anyone help? Please!
Specifics found below in the Etrecheck output.
    History:
    Running OSX 10.5 happily.
Decided to upgrade to be more secure so upgraded memory (which passed memtest 5 times through) from 2 - 8 gigs.
Purchased the 10.6 upgrade Disc and then did online update to Mavericks.
Problem after upgrade...Especially but not entirely when under battery power (Battery at less than 500 cycles and working well) I get complete freezing aside from blue vertical lines on part of the screen. Must do a hard shutdown after this.
    Attempted solutions:
Using Carbon Copy Cloner (CCC)- reinstalled older backup of drive after an erase. I was shocked that the problem was still there as this sent me back to OSX 10.6.
Tested memory with memtest and all was good for more than 5 cycles.
Set uo an external drive with 10.6 and then mavericks and ran this for about a week with no problems. I then transfered this back to the onboard drive after erasing it with CCC and the problems returned.
I thought it was only with battery power but this proved not to be the case, although it does freeze much less often when plugged in.
I have tried the PRAM resets etc to no avail.
Any help would be much aporeciated as would some assurance that perhaps a newer version of OSX might work in the future.
Please note. This is my partnes's computer and she is less than impressed with my "upgrade".
Cheers and have a great day.

Your report looks clean to me, sorry it doesn't indicate any obvious signs of old software that could be breaking the OS.
The only thing that would concern me is the lack of free space on the boot disk 23GB is close to the minimum. Ideally I'd like a little more maybe 30-40GB. Spinning disks perform slower as they become more full so that may not help performance, however it doesn't explain the freezing/ lines on screen.
Your tests seem to indicate something wrong with the internal disk (it worked OK for a week on external, but the same OS dies on the internal?). Was the restored OS 10.6 or 10.9?
Are any of these systems 'clean installs'? If not I'd consider using the Mavericks installer to 'reinstall' 10.9.3 over the top of the current OS. By default it only overwrites the OS files so the use data & apps should remain in place (a backup is still needed before you do this). Another option is to reinstall just a clean OS to see if the internal disk can work at all.
You can also start combing the logs for info (or hope Linc Davis appears here with some commands to parse the logs).
Start testing the disk (check the SMART status in Disk Utility).
Apple Hardware Test https://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509 (it may not tell you much)
Repair the disk via Recovery mode.
Since you suspect it is related to the battery…

  • Hsia45 Upgrade - Speed Problem

Hello, I just upgraded from the Max Turbo (24 Mbps down) to to the Hsia 45 Mbps Down.  It seems I have been having some speed issues seems to be only over the wireless.  I already know that wireless will always be slower than wired connection.  But my wireless speed is even slower now that it was with the Max Turbo.  I was pulling in between 19 - 22Mbps downstream when connected to wireless. Now I am only getting around 15Mbps downstream.  I tested the speed with the computer hardwired to the modem and got above 45 Mbps downstream anywhere from 45 - 50Mbps.  I have tried tinkering with the wireless settings but am still only getting the slow speed. I have tried changing the channel, frequency, power level, etc.  Nothing has worked.  I have reset the model several times My computer has wireless-N.  Not sure why the wireless is slow.  My connections statistics are posted below.  What could be the problem?

Not saying they don't provide service.  Its provideing a partial service.  *Only being able to obtain the advertised speed while being hardwired into the gateway.*  I'm just wondering why the equipment that is provided can't achieve the advertised speed.   When tested over WIFI computer is setting literally right next to the gateway. I'm not expecting the WIFI to be able to achieve line speeds.  I know that the line speed will always be faster.  Thats like saying you buy a car that has 500 horsepower, but yet the manufacturer provides components that is on the car (tires or something simple that can be changed easily but would requier considerable cost to change) that is only capable of handling 250 horsepower.  Consumer expect that the stock components are able to handle what is being advertised/what you are paying for. Lets just be real.  most of the way things are connected in this age are wireless.  Saying that you offer 45Mbps *only over a wired connection vs saying you offer internet capable of 45Mbps is two different things.

  • HDMI Out From 27inch iMAC No Longer Has Audio Post Mavericks Upgrade

After upgrading to Mavericks my Mini Displayport->HDMI out is no longer outputting audio.
Is this happening to anyone else?  Any line on a solution?

I am having the same issue, and have posted a reply to a similar issue in the mavericks forum.

  • Unstable Mail post Mavericks upgrade:

After upgrade to Mavericks (v10.9.1) Mail (v7.1) on my iMac has become unstable, freezing at the drop of a hat, requiring frequent forced quit to wrestle back control. Tried to instal the available Mail Update for Mavericks, promising increased stability, in an attempt to solve the problem but the installer says all my storage options, including the SSD Macintosh HD 'do not meet the requirements for this update'.
Is this a known problem between Mail and Mavericks and does anyone have an idea how to fix?
    thanks

Has anybody figured this out? I too really really regret "upgrading" to Mavericks.  My most used programs are all fubar'd: Mail, Numbers, Pages
At least it seems you can access your email.  Mine often freezes causes a force quit (even that doesn't always work) and then when I click on the mail icon, no window appears, only the tiny little (tool?) bar at the top.  I am still looking for my boxes, especially inbox and compose box.  Aarrgh!

  • ICloud Setup on Mac post Mavericks upgrade results in endless do loop

    iCloud Problems
So you open Internet Accounts - and delete from internet accounts [email protected] (can’t logout)
    The dreaded account is gone……..
So now back to System preferences and into the iCloud icon to set User [kaiserja] as default iCloud account and cure the ills of the world.
You go back to internet accounts and get —
Ahhhh grasshopper, we have endless do loop here.  Has wasted phenomenal amounts of time.  Fortunately, gmail works so I can send and get mail, as do my iPhone, iPad and Exchange accounts.  Think I’m going to need to switch personal mail to gmail after investing nearly 12 hours in attempting to set up an apple mail client in OSX Mavericks.
Is there a fix for this or is this just another open bug unresolved?

Rebuilding in this system, so when trying to sign in to iCloud to set up
Proper data entered and the window goes away but nothing happens
Conclude issue is with iCloud setup, so to system preferences and iCloud we go
From there we get sent to internet accounts, after clicking internet accounts, we see the screen below and delete the inactive [email protected]
(BTW have no idea what inactive means.  account functions on iPhone, iPad and iCloud over safari)
After deleting the offending user account, we see
All gone so all should be golden, no?  So returning to iCloud set up, we get
and opening Internet accounts and entering our apple id leads us back to here....
an obvious and not very helpful statement as I use this account on multiple devices, but just deleted it from here.
Ahhhh grasshopper, we have endless do loop here.  Assuming it is keychain related, so I reset my login keychain.  Lather, rinse, repeat just like shampoo instructions same errors over an over again.

  • Post Mavericks Upgrade, Address Book and Multiple emails

I have upgraded to OS Mavericks.
I'm seeking to use the groups in my Address Book to easily email multiple address.
How to do this in one "double click," rather than having to enter each address individually?

I just figured it out.  Go to Address Panel under Window, your address book including groups with names and email addresses will appear.  Click on the contacts you want to send and click "To:" on the upper left corner, an email with those recipeents will appear!

  • IMac Maverick Upgrade - Printer Problems

I recently upgraded to Maverick and now my HP color laser jet CM 1415fnw does not work.  I first tried calling HP and was on hold with them for a couple of hours and finally gave up.  So I am coming to Apple now to inquire if they know anything about possible printer drivers being developed to support or function in the new Maverick operating system?
I realize HP is another company, but still would like any information available.
    Regards ......

Your printer doesn't show up on http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669.
Did you try adding it using the AirPrint driver?

  • Maverick upgrade - iPhoto problems

I have updated my iMac with Maverick but find iPhoto won't work. I get the error message: "You can't' use this version of the application "iPhoto" with this version of OS X. You have "iPhoto" 9.2.3  -  Any ideas what I do now? What's the point of an update to Maverick if this is the result?

You will need to to go the App Store and download iPhoto 9.5.1 (free).

  • Problems after Mavericks upgrade

A few days ago, I installed the latest Mavericks upgrade.  I now cannot access the app store, which opens but doesn't show any icons or information - the pages are just blank.  Safari is also not working properly - it won't recognise the certificates from any secure sites, including this forum.  Facebook won't load properly, it only shows the bare html page.  I've tried restoring the system from a previous backup, but this doesn't work.  Can anyone help?

    Hi everyone,
    i have a solution!
well at least that worked for me.
It is nothing like a bug or software problem. It is just that after mavericks install for some reason i found a change in my Preview app preferences. So i set it correctly and now everything is back and working correctly.
Go to the Preview Preferences, then choose the "Images" section/tab, then choose "Size on screen equals size on printout" option, and thats it!
Try this out and I hope this works for you too!

  • Does Adobe CS6 now work after Mavericks upgrade? I know people were having problems.

I have been told that CS6 does not work with the new Mavericks upgrade. Apple Support Chat were very helpful. Advised to contact Adobe. Wondered what other people have discovered so far. Thanks in advance people!

We have CS6 on multiple iMacs in our department at work with Mavericks. No problems running any CS6 applications at all.
We have only run into one problem with Acrobat Pro X after installing Creative Cloud, that every time we start that app, it asks for the CS6 license number. Thus we have stopped using it for Acrobat Pro XI.

  • Maverick upgrade created wifi connectivity problem

Have a chat with apple, they deleted the newtwork name and delited the system preference folder.
Restar, and that shoud thake care of the problem.
No it did not, the problem persit.
Is there an offical ticket to solve this on the next Mavericks upgrade?

Tried both options but still no luck.
I have got a seperate DSL modem and a seperate wireless router connected to it.
When i upgraded from iOS5 to iOS6, same problem occured but resolved after following such steps.
But this time, its a real pain!
Let me know if i make changes in router like SSID or anything? In order to make it work, I assume that iPad should treat my router as a new device rather than an old one. Please suggest, thanks.

  • Fafter upgrading to mavericks,I had problems with windows 8.1, so deleated partion to start over. Everthing went fine until The fact I was using an upgrade disc instead of a bootable version. Now everthing is loocked up and  none of the hotkeys work

after upgrading to mavericks, I had problems with windows 8.1. I deleated the partition to start over. Upon try ing to reinstall 8.1 everthing locked up. I had an upgrade disk instead of bootable. Now every time I turn the computer on "it asks for bootable media"; none of the hot keys work to get back  eo mac os

You mised the last part where none of the hotkeys are working, neither options nor "X" it goes ms 8.1 boot up and asks foe a bootable disc. I am about to pull the HD put it into a case attach it to another computer and delete the file

  • Connectivity speed plummet after Mavericks upgrade

I ran a speed test from my iMac (2.66 GHz Intel core 2 Duo) after Mavericks upgrade and I'm only getting 0.06 Mbps download over 5g WiFi with a 20 Mbit Time Warner Turbo Cable account.
The App Store app seems not to respond either when attempting to download updates.
    Any thoughts?
    Thank you.

I have experienced the same issues since the official release of Mavricks. I have even had my cable provider out to swap my modem. In all of my testing... the issue is clearly Mavricks. I have incredable speeds on all devices exept my mac no that Mavricks was installed.
We are talking a 500-700% difference in speeds. This was not always the case and has only been an issue on the 1 machine since the upgrdade.
When I find that my speeds are crippled, a restart of the wifi adapter will usually fix the issue for the time being. It WILL return with in a few hrs to 24 hrs.... unacceptable in my book.
I have since upgraded another mac on my network and we will see if it suffers the same fate.

  • Print Paper Size Problem after Mavericks Upgrade

I migrated my Apps, Data and System Settings from a Macbook running OSX Lion to a new Macbook Pro running Mavericks.
The problem I now have is that the application 'Family Tree Maker 2' cannot get the paper size right. No matter which Paper size I select, it is shown as half size in the Application Print Preview screen and this error carries through to actual printing.
so A4 210 by 297 mm displays as 5.8 x 4.1 inches (which is Half Size).
The problem is significant because the application formats it's output to fit into half of the available space.
    I have unsuccessfully tried;
    - removing and reinstalling the Application.
    - Adding my Brother Laser printer with the latest Mavericks compatible driver.
    - Resetting the printing system.
    - Repairing disk permissions
    - Adding a new User Account
    - Deleting plists associated with com.ancestry
    iWork Pages is working correctly.
I have raised this with ancestry.com however it appears that I am the only person that has experienced this problem.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Problem is worse than that. Whilst the Paper is shown as half size, the family tree diagram boxes are produced twice as wide as they should be.
If I select A4 Paper, a diagram that would fit on one page is now spread across two.
If I select A3 Paper, the preview indicates the paper size as A4 8.3 x 5.8 inches however the diagram size and position on the paper are unchanged and I just get loads of white space around the outside of the diagram.
It does sound like an Application problem but it is still working fine on my old OSX Lion machine. Something has happened in the migration.
