Post Maverics Upgrade - iTunes, Sleeping display and Apple Remotee

Before I upgraded to Mavericks, my Imac would play itunes and eventually the display would falla sleep. Perfect for pdocasts and internet radio at night. I'd use my apple remote to adjust the volume or change tracks and the display would remain asleep
After the upgrade, any touch I'd make with the remote wakes the display - which is sort of brutal at night - and I'll be darned if I can find a setting to revert it back to the way I had it.
Any thoughts?

It is frustrating, but you have to help the other people here help you by giving more information or asking a formal question.
The reason why people aren't replying to your post is because there really isn't much of a question other then:
"do anybody reply to these posts?"
and
"Does Apple care?"
No one can really respond seriously to those posts.
So I will help you with the following.
Provide your model of iPod, its age, and what software update you are talking about. Then people can start to help you with your problem, if that is what you are requesting.
Otherwise, you have a 1 year warranty standard on iPod where they will repair defects. You do have support beyond 30 days, just not telephone support. You can go into any apple store and have your problem diagnosed for free if you are still within your 1 year warranty, or can call Apple to ship it to a repair center.

Since upgrading itunes, my iPad and iPhone aren't recognized by iTunes. Anyone have any ideas on a resolution?

I added a new post to my iTunes U course and it is not showing up on one of my student's iPads. She has only one Apple ID on the iPad. Any assistance is appreciated.

A new post to my iTunes U course shows up in my course both on my Mac and my iPad Air, as well as on other students' iPads, but for one single student. We have closed the app and forced shutdown. Student recently added more icloud space, but that is all. iPad is up-to-date in terms of iOS and iTunesU app. The student has only one Apple ID associated with her iPad.
We have reposted two more times. The second time the post showed up for a few seconds, but then disappeared. It does not show up under any other section (assignments, discussions, etc). Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Have you contacted Apple support?
I don't know if these will work, but you could have the student try the following:
logout of his or her iTunes U (i.e., iTunes Store) account using Settings
force-quit iTunes U
relaunch iTunes U
sign in to the newly launched app when prompted

ILoathe and iHate iTunes 7.3 and Apple's lack of support

Like thousands of other people, I found iTunes 7.3 is unusable on my machine due to the error "The iTunes library file cannot be saved. An unknown error occurred (-50)." It has been nearly one week and Apple has not officially commented upon the error let alone fixed it. In addition, reverting to iTunes 7.1 and 7.2, which worked for several days, now fails upon loading due to a runtime error. So despite USERS having worked on the issue and found an apparent work around, I cannot implement it. This effectively makes my computer useless for playing music or podcasts. Thank god I did not buy the iPhone or AppleTV or I would be even more livid. Given Apple's lack of concern for it's customers, I will have to rethink ever switching over from Windows to a Mac.

No, I did not phone tech support as I do not have any Apple products that are under warranty. In addition, several people who claim they did call Apple support, after there were 25,000 views on this issue, were told that they were the only people who had this problem and their issue was not resolved.
Now, for this issue, try the following:
For the runtime error, completely remove iTunes and
Quicktime

. After it they are removed, just to make sure,
download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility
(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301), and then
remove all references of iTunes and Quicktime.
Thank you. When I used the Add/Remove Programs to uninstall iTunes I mistakenly believed that I was UNINSTALLING iTunes. Silly me. Going in deleting additional files as mentioned in the document did allow me to re-install 7.2. For that I sincerely thank you. This allowed me to remove all podcasts (keeping the files) while in 7.2. Video podcasts are the alleged cause of the failure of the 7.2 to 7.3 upgrade to work properly.
Try re-installing iTunes 7.3, and see if it gives you
the same message. If it gives you a message saying
the library couldn't be saved, try this:

When I installed 7.3 without any podcasts being in my library it installed correctly. Since I did not delete my files I was able to import the podcast folder back and then resubscribe to my podcasts. iTunes 7.3 appears to be working correctly now. Do I feel Apple is not properly supporting this issue? Yes. Apple has known for days that the 7.3 iTunes upgrade will destroy the file library of thousands of iTunes users. There is no warning, no official comment on the support forums that I could find, and no 7.3 fix. I consider that poor support. If you feel good customer support is forcing users to spend their time searching thousands of forum posts on this one problem, most of which did not offer solutions, and make them uninstall/reinstall software, and their library files that is fine. I think it is unacceptable.
None-the-less, I thank you for taking the time to post the document links which were quite helpful.

ITunes 10.5 and Apple Backup won't run correctly for update to iOS 5.

I'm trying to update my iPhone 3GS to OS 5. When I update to iTunes 10.5, click update, and begin the backup that's required before updating to OS 5, iTunes and Apple Backup get stuck in an endless death loop. The striped bar in the top window of iTunes just keeps spinning and it claims to be backing up the phone. But this continues for several hours and the update to OS 5 never starts. I've completely uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes 10.5 several times because updating to OS 5 requires iTunes 10.5. I've got plenty of RAM and a 2.0GHz computer.

Ok, here is what worked for me. Copied from sodaboy581's post:
Posted this in another thread! Sounds stupid, but this will actually work.
1. Quit iTunes.
2. Start an elevated command prompt (Start Menu -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Right Click "Command Prompt" -> "Run as Administrator")
3. Once in the command prompt, type "netsh winsock reset" and hit ENTER.
4. Restart iTunes.
Problem solved.
At least this fixed it for me on my own Windows 7 x64 installation. I had AppleMobileDevice.exe, APSDaemon.exe, and iTunes.exe all at 25% CPU simply from opening up iTunes.
25% CPU for me is 100% CPU per core since I have 4 cores.

One caveat is that the iPhone (mine is a 4S) doesn't "wake up" while this is happening and hitting the "Home" button does not display "slide to cancel" as it usually does during a backup. Oh well, it still worked!

ITune 7.4 and Apple TV and Apple Store

Just upgraded to 7.4. Results:
1) Cannot get to Store with the resulting message - "iTunes could not connect to the itunes store. The network connection was refused." Curious that my network is working fine and I can connect to Support. 2) my Apple TV disappeared from the Device side bar. In trying to log on to my PC from the Apple TV, that device can't see my PC/iTunes. I use an Apple Extreme router which I rebooted. No impact. Any thoughts before I yak at the Apple Care people tomorrow morning?

I'd be inclined to sort your itunes store connection out first, although it may just be a temporary blip, there's been a handful of issues with the tv not seeing upgraded itunes libraries as the same libraries that they are synced to. The fix is to 'change itunes library' in the 'syncing' setting on the 'sources' screen. Whether or not this is a solution to your problems between itunes and the tv, I seriously doubt it would fix your problem between itunes and itms.

ITunes installation errors and Apple Mobile Device Errors

First I will explain how I got to where I am now. I had the an iTunes 7 version, don't know the specific, and I have an ipod touch. I had been ignoring the iTunes 8 upgradge things upon open of iTunes, cause i had absolutely no need for it and syncing music to my ipod was still working, and i dont care for itunes besides being able to use my ipod. Then the iphone os 3.0 came out and i wanted to download/pay for it, and when i attempted to do this i was promptly instructed that I needed iTunes 8. I closed itunes and reopened so i could just tell the prompt that i wanted to upgrade, then bonjour opened and i selected the itunes/quicktime package, it gave me an error saying i needed to download manually, so i turned off automatic install. I then downloaded again, it opened a folder with iTunes.msi among other things, I double clicked itunes.msi and it proceeded to install. I then had iTunes 8 installed, opened it up, and with my ipod touch connected, it told me I needed upgraded apple mobile device and i had to uninstall both apple mobile device and itunes to do this. so i uninstall itunes through add/remove programs, and attempted to uninstall apple mobile device and everytime i did this it would not complete and gave me "Fatal Error" prompt. I then tried to reinstall iTunes and it would not install, kept giving me an error and told me to try again. I searched google for answers and the best anyone could say was delete missing files and try again, so i can CCleaner and got rid of registrys etc, and still would not allow me to uninstall apple mobile device. i reinstalled itunes and it actually worked this time, and then i plug in my ipod touch and it tells me i need the upgraded apple mobile device again, and that i need to uninstall apple mobile device and itunes to do this. If i could get rid of apple mobile device altogether maybe i wouldnt have this problem, but it simply wont let me. Any help with this? and sorry this was so long, i figured someone would need to know what happened to know how to fix it.

It sounds as though using the Microsoft Installer cleanup utility is worth a go.
I will give you a method for removal of iTunes and related programs with clean up, I think you have already done the removal, but just in case you missed anything out.

Download a fresh copy of iTunes and the stand alone version of Quicktime (the one without iTunes)

Save the files on your PC.
Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program – you have to run it to install the program. The installer doesn't give any message to confirm the installation.

Now use the following method to remove iTunes and its components:

*If you hit a problem with one of the uninstalls don't worry*, carry on with the deleting of files and folders as directed in the method.
When you get to deleting Quicktime files in the system32 folder as advised in the method, you can delete any file or folder with Quicktime in the name.
Restart your PC.
Run the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility. (Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up)
Remove any references you find to the programs you removed - strictly speaking you only need to worry about those programs where the uninstall failed.
If you don’t see an entry for one of the programs that did not uninstall, look out for blank entries or numeric entries that look like version numbers e.g. 7.x for Quicktime or 1.x for Bonjour.
restart your PC
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check that it works.
If it does, install iTunes.

Apple/iTunes credit card and Apple Pay

I have changed my Apple/iTunes credit card and now I am unable to enter that card into Apple Pay. I don't get the prompt at the beginning of the entering process to enter the Apple Store credit card as I did before I changed the card.

I Think that the reason so many of us are asking is that it did offer to add the card that was used in iTunes even though it was not supported. When I first setup Apple Pay it asked me if I wanted to use my card associated with iTunes. My card was an unsupported GM Master Card. I chose instead to add my supported Chase debit card. I could never get it to ask me again. And I cannot add the GM card through passbook.
It to may not have completed adding the iTunes card if I had chosen it first, but sure acted like it might had I chosen it first. I think that is why so many of us were asking.

While ripping DVDs to my computer for playback in itunes, ipod, iphone, and apple tv, is there any way to rip a single copy that is supported by the previous devices?

My current problem is that when I rip a DVD to an iphone/ipod touch format with my ripping software, I have to convert the file to one supported by apple tv when I want to play the movie in apple tv. To clarify, I wish to rip the DVD once, with no file conversion in itunes, for playback and transfer to iphone/ipod touch and apple tv. I assume there is way to this by altering the ripping settings, perhaps trying 600-900 kps per second. I hope that there is a way to rip a DVD that can be played in the iphone and apple tv. Just installed iTunes6 on PC now whenever I connect my mini I get a pop up which shows the details for the iPod, like calendar etc. Whenever I open up my iTunes it say that the software to communicate with iTunes has not been installed properly and that I should re-install iTunes, I've tried adding the software update to my iPod, I've deleted iTunes and re-installed and I've also re-installed the iPod software...I'm losing the plot now, anyone any ideas what I'm doing wrong??? i upgraded to the new version of itunes yesterday, and then itunes wouldn't recognize my ipod (classic, 160 GB). i kept getting the error message "itunes can't read the contents of rachel's ipod." When I plug in my iphone my CPU goes to 100%. 50% itunes and 50% Apple mobile device. when trying to shut down, MD crash report uses 50% CPU

Switching between Dell 4K display and Apple Mini DisplayPort To Dual-Link DVI Adapter

Hi All,
I've recently upgraded my home setup to a Dell 4K display (Dell P2815Q), which since the 10.9.3 update work as expected.
However the downside is that my office setup uses a Mini displayport to Dual-Link DVI adapter (Firmware version 1.03) and a Dell 30" display (2560x1600), which will not work without a reboot after using the 4K display. If I use the 4K display after using the Dual-Link DVI adapter it works fine.
Is this a know issue ? If not, I'm happy to provide some more diagnostic information to help resolve the issue.

DVI is not mentioned at all. You probably need to connect to the display via HDMI to get the 4096x2160 resolution.
