  • BT Infinity 2 Installed today - Very Poor Speeds

    Hi,
I have just had BT Infinity 2 installed today to an Openreach Engineer. The BT Wholesale Checker shows the following for my number:
    FTTC Range A (Clean) 59.3 43.7 16.2 10 -- Available
    FTTC Range B (Impacted) 49.7 26.7 16.2 7.4 -- Available
But a wired speedtest.net result comes back with: just 22Mbps http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3287469432
The Hub5 is plugged directly into the new faceplate that has been installed - and i dont have any extensions or anything like that to confuse things.
I have gone into the Hub 5 connection status which shows:
    VDSL Line Status
    Connection Information
    Line state: Connected
    Connection time: 0 days, 04:43:37
    Downstream: 23.38 Mbps
    Upstream: 5.45 Mbps
What can I do? as a 20Mb line is not much more impressive than the 7Mb i was getting on my traditional ADSL line.
    Thanks
    Jon

i would suggest leaving it for 10 days see if things improve as they do say there is a 10 day training phase, if nothing improves after that then i would come back see if you can get a mod to help you out as they are a good bunch here all uk based

I was going to put it in the Infinity forum but as there were other similarish ones here, and that my problem is reagrding a connection issue (my modem gets Inifinity just fine), I thought thought the connection issues forum would be the correct place.
Also as HH3 is not Infinity specific, I thought the problem was not necessarily Inifinity specific either
Even so, thanks for putting in the correct place.

Maybe something nasty is on the pc preventing installation. Pop ms essentials on for a while. Do a full scan and run malware, spybot etc.
I had exactly this issue and in the end wiped everything and reinstalled windows.
    Tedious. But it solved it.

    Hi Sprucie and welcome
Firstly, can you remove the image you've posted as it gives the hub's SSID and your wireless password for connecting to it. Although the odds must be huge, if anyone near you read this and realised it was your hub, they would be able to connect to it.
Secondly, from that screen, click advanced settings, continue to advanced settings and click on wireless. From there select another wireless channel, either channel 1, 6 or 11. Click apply when you've done this. Also the distance from the hub will affect the connection speed - how far away is it? - do other devices in the same room also operate slowly?
Installing inSSIDer on a wireless enabled laptop would also be beneficial as you would be able to see what channels are used in your area - you're best to avoid heavily used channels.
Also, ideally connecting via an ethernet cable would solve all this - but this isn't always practical. You could use powerline adapters

  • New install, Deskjet K8600

Trying to install - goes to 96% and fails.  I believe there is something wrong with the carriage and that 96% is the configuration part.  I cannot get the printheads to move to the center (someone else installed the printheads and ink cartridges).  When trying to print, I get the same page everytime.  a very fine blue vertical line, a thicker pinkish vertical line and three letter N's, all same pinkish color.  I am trying to return it to the vendor for replacement, although the box has been thrown out.  Any suggestions?  Thank you.  Jonilyn

Please uninstall the SSI and MC and run version 3.5.154. The 3.5.144 version had an AD sync bug.

  • New Install, Huawei DSLAM ECI Modem

Hi all, Just appreciate your thoughts on this. New install today, getting approx 75 down 18 up. The DSLAM down the road is a Huawei unit so thought they might supply a Huawei cable modem but the engineer turned up with an ECI one and told me the Huawei was unreliable. I presume there is no effort to match the modem with the DSLAM, just in my mind you would like to think that same manufacturer would be better option for compatibility/performance? Regards, Paul

my own experience is no change of sync speeds but matching them up seems to improve error rates.
I am on a ECI dslam and was given a HG modem, I got hold of a ECI modem and now have noticebly less packetloss on my tbb graph.  The sync speed is around the same.
In many cases in real terms there may well be no noticeable affect but in marginal cases the numbers of errors could affect DLM which in turn affects performance.

They installed a new master socket etc when they put the modem in. There is no phone plugged into the master but there are 3 phones AFTER the master socket (extension terminals inside socket, after filter I guess) . I think they tried it with all those disconnected. As for the signal, I mean the DSL light takes ages to actually come on and sync. I don't use wireless here. I have a long Cat5e cable from modem to bt hub then 2 computers and a CCTV box coming off the hub via LAN.
Property is a farmhouse on unmade track with no other properties nearby served by the phone wires. We are approx 1000m from the main road. I think if they could connect the wires into the cabinet at and of my track they might get the claimed speeds. I did a test using a known phone number of a house near that cabinet and it came back as 64mbps quoted , so theres obviously fibre in that cabinet.
One more thing, there is currently broadband on another line in the same cable coming up my track, which is on my business line, I have kept this running but when infinity working better it can be cut off. I wonder if there could be any interference from one pair of wires to the other having 2 broadband signals travelleing 1000m together. Probably not but just trying to think of everything.

    Thanks for your answer Dave,
As far as I can see we have an old GWIA from GW6 and an external domain with an old external GWIA in it which is no longer in use.
I am not able to tell you more about our GW system as I'm new in this company and only heared from my colleagues that they don't know really what will happen after the removal of those objects. So my boss decided that I will have to create a completely new system and switch over to it.
After he is back from vacation I will talk to him again. Maybe he will change his mind and allows me to update and clean up the old system.
    Cheers Alex

Been for a walk and managed to find what I think is the cabinet. I actually found two. The first is about 3ft tall by about 4ft wide, dark green and looks like it's been there a while and the second is about 5ft tall by about 4ft wide, a lighter green, has air vents, sounds like it has a fan and looks like it's fairly new. The grass around it still hasn't grown back and it looks like the road near it has been dug up but only by about 1ft wide and 10ft long.
The cabinet is 0.45 or 0.42 miles, depending which route I take, from my house. So between 600 & 700m away assuming it follows the road. The direct distance is only 0.22 miles so about 330m.
Is it likely that the 6/700m is correct or do the lines tend to deviate much more than this thus increasing the distance? I was also wondering if there are any other factors I should consider. Eg I am on a small side road and upto a few years ago couldn't get broadaband. The road is only about 50yds long with 8 houses and this applied to all of us yet, everyone surrounding us including the first house at the top of our road could get broadband. BT said it was due to distance from exchange and the fact that the line took a 90 degree turn onto our road which caused the problem.
    Thanks

  • NOT SOLVED Infinity installed today - no better th...

Sorry hit the wrong button and cannot seehow to un-resolve it!
    Last post:
Update: Good news is that we have increased DL and UL speed by 0.5m Other news: The engineer returned to fit our data extension cable as he ran out of time last night and said he would report us as only being able to receive 8meg due to our distance and that the checker must be wrong. This afternoon a customer services rep rang from BT to confirm this and to ask if we wanted it all taken out! We cannot access the BT checker yet, possibly as our order has not closed? Questions: Do we give up and believe the engineer? I am tempted not too as yesterday he couldn't remember the formula he had been taught for working our speed by distance yesterday and couldn't tell me my line length. Today he quoted my line length from the exchange, which I knew. Reading on here it is the cab distance that matters? He did confirm he thought our line mostly followed the road, so on goggle this is 140m. Looking at the charts quoted here for speed to distance our 16 meg estimate is spot on. The other thing he said was normally Openreach flood new areas (we were FTTC enabled March 1st), our engineer is local and was trained for rollout, as this did not happen here, so I ? his experience. I also mentioned the 10 day training period and line profiles and he didn't seem to have a clue. On the other hand we are one of the last houses on the network and on the side of a welsh mountain, which is why we are early adopters of infinity given the estimated increase in speed. Also, 10 years ago there were not enough lines here to have a business line and eventually they relaid part of the network to our group of houses, this should be positive as there are newish cables and lots of lines. I am tempted to stay and have a fault reported after the ten days if my speed does not improve. Any advice appreciate! Thanks
    The problem:
Hi, If anyone can help me I would be grateful. Infinity fitted today and my DL is 8 and UL .5 this is the almost the same as my ADSL which was DL 6 and UL .3. The checker when I ordered said I would get 16.8 DL. The two engineers that visited today both said you are just too far from the street box and hard luck. I had a courtesy call from BT and when I said I was very unhappy they said all would be ok in ten days! I have worked out that currently I am paying BT £5 per meg a month and I paid sky £1.95 for the speed I recieved. This is all after a cancelled order on March 19th with no notification, a rebooked visit in a day I did not agree to and hours on the phone to India sorting out today's visit. The engineer cleared a fault On the line and says its perfect. Why should I pay full price for the next 10 days? It's a third more expensive and my speed isn't going to improve. This is the kind of service I feared I would recieve as I used BT in the past. Comments/advice gratefully received. Thanks

    Can you try www.speeedtest.bbmax.co.uk too.

    1. Don't confuse "Apple ID" with iTunes Account ID.  You can have many Apple IDs but only one iTunes account active at a time.
    2. If you "changed" your iTunes account ID, you actually have 2 accounts - one under the old name plus the new name.
    3. You can't merge the accounts - they remain separate.  Apps purcahsed under the old account name will update ONLY WHEN THE PHONE IS SIGNED IN TO THE OLD ACCOUNT NAME  and visa versa.
    4. Likewise, you can sync only the apps, music, media purchased under the account the phone AND iTunes are signed in to.
