The last, and only time, I saw that problem was with a friend's computer, and by a process of elimination the hub ethernet connection (i.e. the interface to the hub) was found to be faulty. I tried connecting to an alternative socket on the hub, but the result was the same. The only plausible reason is that the pc cannot complete its' boot up until the ethernet connection is established. I replaced the hub with a spare. Have you tried to connect wirelessly?
Have you tried to connect wirelessly?
No. My pc has not got wireless.
I replaced the hub with a spare.
And that solved it?  Possibly that’s the solution here too, it’s my first BT Hub and it might be best if I send it back. Not much else it can be.

  • My i mac wont boot up past the start screen

My imac wont boot up past the grey screen with the apple logo, the progress bar gets to about midway and stalls at this point.
I even left the system on in this state for the remainder of the day to no avail.
The original problem which resulted in the grey screen, was that when the system did boot up i had a black screen with only the task bar, however when the task bar tabs opened i could not get any of the options to actually operate/function. At this point i turned the system of and after the third attempt the system faltered to the grey screen.
I have tried the Safe mode boot/nram/pra/smc rests but the system still stalls midway on the progress bar, even holding the c key.
    Help please....

See if the computer will boot into the Recovery Partition (Command + R on startup) if it won't that means the HD has likely crashed and the ONLY thing to do is get it serviced.

  • My PC won't boot up if the hub is already switched...

My PC won't boot up if the hub is already switched on.  It gets as far as the desktop image and freezes up, [the icons never appear].  The only way I can get it to work is by removing the yellow plug from the hub after powering off the PC, and reinserting the yellow plug after the icons have appeared following the next PC boot-up.
I recently swopped over to BT and have been using the BT Hub for nearly two months.
I first mentioned the problem to this forum in September, but have not solved it yet.
Thought it worth enquiring if anybody has heard anything new about this problem.

    "...board is relatively recent."
If you think 7 years as "relatively recent" that is. That's plenty of time for caps in PSU & MB to go bad, especially in PSU and not knowing what the original owner had, bad PSU is a good possibility for damaging MB.
Original was a Corsair 400 apparently.
It depends how you interprete "relatively". All my stuff is older than that so to me it's recent.

  • My macbook air wont boot up past the loading screen. UPDATE

My 2008 macbook air will turn on, and then go to the apple screen with the loading wheel, but after a few minutes of loading it just shuts down...
Here is an update of the problem after i messed around with it for a bit.
I start up the macbook while holding Command+s
Then it brings up the prompt.
    I then type: /sbin/fsck -fy
It then outputs a message saying:
    disk0s2: I/0 error.
    Invalid sibling link
    (4, 42746)
**The volume macintosh HD could not be repaired.
/dev/rdisk0s2 (hfs) EXITED WITH SIGNAL 8
After that, i type in: /sbin/mount -uw /
    Then I type: exit
It runs the logout scripts and then immedietly boots up fine, like the computer has no problem.
It works fine like this, but i dont want to have to do those steps every time I want to use my macbook...
Any help on how to fix this?

I have a similar problem. Not sure you're on here (since the post is really old) but did you manage to work it out? How?
    My thread:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/19007548#19007548
My Imac froze earlier today as I was dragging an image from safari into indesig and when it froze the weirdest pattern overlaid the screen. It looked just like the opacity pattern from photoshop with grey and white squares. I turned the computer off using the power button and unplugged everything.
Now when I try to start it these weird lines appear on my start up screen (see link)...
    http://meijerladdaruppgrejer.wordpress.com/2012/07/24/oops/
as you can see the apple and the wheel appears as normal...
... then it moves to a normal looking white screen (perhaps a bit greener than usual) and around 30 seconds later freezes at the blue screen.
    I've tried the cmd + alt + p + r several times but it won't help.
If i press alt during start up I can see and choose my hard drive but just end up at the blue screen again.
Can I try starting it up in safe mode or something?

  • MacBook wont boot up all the way!!

I recently updated my computer with Quiktime and itunes applications and it asked me to restart after updates were complete. It restarted but it gets stuck on the gray screen with the apple and the turning wheel and wont go any further. I read similar posts but the problem is i do not have any of my original software with me because i am living in Europe right now. I tried the shift and power and also the command and ctrl and power and nothing has worked. is there any way i can fix this without having to reinstall?

I don't have an answer since you don't have the install DVDs or apparently even a backup drive with you, but this is a good place to point out the need for preventative maintenance to anyone who is interested.
It is always somewhat risky to install new software. It is like surgery; it is usually safe but there can be complications caused by the fact that everyone's computer is setup differently and many people have corrupted files already on their computers that they are not even aware of. Then when the new installed update comes across something that is corrupted, bad things can happen.
I think many people don't use an external hard drive as a backup because they don't want to spend the money. In this case, do what I do, as a redundancy to an ext. backup drive, partition your computer's drive such that you can install a copy of OS X on each partition. Then you will always have a functional OS in case you get caught without your install DVDs or any other method of getting back on track.
The second OS (on a partition) is also great for trouble shooting all manner of issues that might come up from time to time. The only downside is that it will consume some space on your hard drive but then you should not be living so close to the edge anyway if you absolutely need that few extra GB of disk space.
Business and industry could not possibly survive if they did not use redundancies and fail-safes to cover the unexpected. Individuals should not think that they somehow can.

  • I have a powerbook G-4 15 inch, It wont boot up and the display only works on the first try. it gets to the apple screen and freezes, when i try to restart theres no display. Help please, whats the issue here?

    Hi,
Please provide your product number. Are you using the HP installed operating system and is it a 32 bit or a 64 bit operating system?
Are the specs on the new 2GB stick identical to the specs on the original stick that came with your PC?
Try the new stick only, in the slot where the original stick was installed. Will the system boot correctly?

  • Vista Wont boot, stays in the black loading "Microsoft" screen.

Ok, I'll try to give you as much info as possible.
So I was running vista fine until it started to get extremely slow to boot, and eventually wouldn't boot at all. I erased the partition and tried to install it again. Even at the black loading screen on the installer disk after "Windows is configuring files" or whatever the same would happen. So now I created a bootcamp partition and used it to back-up everything with time machine. Restored my mac, updated everything, restored and erased partition(btw each partition I made was 100 gig). Tried installing it again, STILL get the black screen. I also noticed that each time in the black screen, the green bars that would run across the box in the middle of the screen would eventually slow down if you waited long enough, as if some kind of lag was there after waiting awhile. Oh and right before vista started acting weird, I installed a ton of programs I needed, but maybe one of them was a virus or something? But I don't think that matters because I erased my whole partition completely. I have tried everything I know, please help!

Well, I have found the answer to my problem. It wasn't the cd drives, which I was almost certain I was. It is my video card:
    http://infopirate.org/new-vista-install
If you look under similar entries also you will find more people experiencing the same problem, but this one I gave you is by far the most similar problem and reasonable solution I found. But now, my question is, what is the solution for me??? Do I have to schedule it for a repair in my local mac store to swap the video cards(the one I have in is an ATI Radeon X1600), or can it be swapped at all??? Help I really need to use vista!!

  • 975x wont boot - new parts

Hi all, im new to this forum but it seems great, i read around abit and found some useful posts.
However, i have the following setup :
    Msi 975x
    c2d 6400
    2gb corsair xms 6400 c4 ( 2*1gb )
    7900gs PoV
    Aspire 550 psu
    I just put the parts toghether again, after having the parts returned to vendor, he claims the first cpu didnt work, and returned the motherboard while i waited for a new cpu to arrive. When i got it i tried the system again, but the following error is still there ;
The system wont boot, other than the fans will spin up but no screen at all, just stands there, when i use the usb led thingy, it shows 4 red dots.
I saw some posts about OCZ memory that wont work, but those were reported as memory issues by the led if im correct, and as i can see it arent 4 red dots the code for CPU , or can the code be wrong and its still the memory ?
The new cpu i got was in an unopened box so it was really new, but i refuse to believe i have broken 2 cpus or have recieved 2 dead cpu from vendor.
Any ideas would be very much welcome.
    Cheers   //  Baboon

    Baboon,
You're not the only one surprised.
I bought THREE 975X PUEs and every time I have re-visited the MSI website I have found new caveats for something the board won't do, or for something that won't work, or for something not included . . . no fixes, mind you, just oddly worded "escape clauses".
    Here are some examples:
    MSI Reminds You...
    • DDR2 800 needs to work with Intel Conroe CPU with FSB1066.
    • The default memory frequency is DDR2 667, you can set to 800 in BIOS settings.
    • Due to the BIOS limits, the Intel RAID and the JMicron RAID functions can not be enabled at the same time, which will cause the system unable to boot up.
    • The RAID setup floppy disk is optional depending on the districts. You can download the files from the website to make the setup disk.
    • To enhance IDE transfer speed, you may install JMicron IDE/SATA Driver. You may download the driver by clicking the "Driver" icon at the left side.
    • The floppy disk cable will be optional.
Yep, the first one was a big surprise to a lot of us sticking in our P4s.  Hello?  Well, OK, maybe the "CPU Support Chart" should have been the "CPU Semi-Support Chart".
OK, I'll even give MSI the first one.  But the third bullet!  Now that one just flat makes me laugh!
Beta Board!  MSI didn't design this Board, it just kinda "happened".
