Post-processing in Export

Our little group of 4 LR users (all on LR 2.4 and XP or Vista 32) has a puzzle. On selecting Export we all have the expected item, but for two of us it stops at "Metadata" - there is no sign of the bottom item, "Post-Processing", which the other two have. Any suggestions before I suggest a re-install?

THe two computers with an incomplete list are configured to export to CD/DVD. If you switch them back to Disk using the drop down menu Post Processing will return.

  • Formatting / Post Processing of Exported Excel Sheet

    Hi ,
    Issue:
The Columns in the Excel Sheet are not fully visible when we export Report from CR viewer  to Excel Sheet. So we had planned for Post processing of the Excel Sheet using VBA or .NET etc to format the Excel Sheet, which would be on the server side, meaning the End user will never see the formatting process, but only the End Report. Is it possible to achieve this ??
    NOTE:
    1) VBA or .NET could not be run on the Linux Server but we could take advantage of the windows server in the presentation layer.
    Architecture:
    Presentation Layer
Linux Server <--> Windows .Net Server <--
    > End User
    {Crystal RAS Server} <-->{GUI CR Viewer Application}<--
    >
    Our Proposed Solution:
    1) Create an GUI Application that has CR viewer in it .
    2) Create a Separate Excel Export button on the webpage.
    3) when the user wants to export the report , he clicks the button.
    4) The GUI/ application saves the Exported Excel Sheet from the Ras server to the windows server.
    5) Then the .Net or the Vba code is applied to process/Format the Excel Sheet.
    6) When complete the End user is prompted for saving the report to a local disk.
    My questions:
    1) Can this be achieved ?
    2) what would be the best way to handle this ?
    3) what should be the process flow ?
    4) what are the things to be considered while planning for such a design ?
    Regards,
    Ramkumar Govindasamy

So you're looking at using RAS .NET SDK on the Application Layer to export a Crystal Report to Excel, save to temp file on the Application Layer machine, process that temp file, and stream that back out to the client web browser.
    Considerations:
    1. You need to create your own custom UI button to trigger the process, since the .NET Web Forms Crystal Reports viewer won't have the hooks to customize the Excel export.
    2. Running Excel VBA from your Web App may be problematic - you'd have to be particularly careful if the system is under load, since the Excel VBA - COM-Interop isn't necessarily designed for high throughput.  Under high load, you may get file locking or COM-Interop layer just refuse to process.  It's pretty common to try and catch exceptions and retry if you encounter this.
You'd likely not find anyone here familiar with 2 above, but 1 is fairly common.

  • WebEngine post processing after Export

Is it possible to have a webengine post export processing (like a trigger to a function in webengine script galleryInfo.lrweb) after the successful Export step?
I would like to do some script file copy to the album exported folder based on user selection.

If the images are smaller then you must have set something in the resize options in the export module. What are your export settings?

  • Post-Processing limit on number of files?

    Hello,
When I export a set of pictures, I apply a post-processing Photoshop droplet to that applies the Imagenomic Portraiture filter. It works fine up to a certain point. I noticed that if the number of files is less than 21, it works fine. If the number is greater, it fails to perform the post-processing and won't even launch Photoshop to apply the droplet action.
Has anyone encountered a file limit problem with post-processing in export?
    Del

I'll assume you are talking about Windows and not Mac since I cannot speak about Mac's. In Windows, the export action is invoked by passing the filenames on a command line to the program/script that you specify. There are limits to how many characters can be passed on a command line, depending on which method the programmers used. I expect the limit is 2048 characters. When that limit is reached, then the action does nothing.
The only way to increase the number of photos you can process, is to change the export folder name to something very short, like C:\Temp, or even shorter. By default, it exports to a very long path name an putting that in front of each photo name eats up valuable characters.
There will still be a limit, but at least you can process more before failure.

  • Applying just vignette or other develop presets in Export-Post processing

Is there anyway to apply vignette in the export phase ? There is post processing option as very last step but that seems to be just for an external application, e.g. Photoshop. As a wedding photographer you might want to provide clients both dark and white vignettes, sepia variants or black & white ones. It would be very beneficial to have these as export operations. Maybe e.g. vignette could be logical OR operation so that main develop settings are kept while just vignette is added on top.

Hi Janne - Simon er Hamish here,
There is a very simple way to see Virtual Copies only, there is a filter for them
See the corner folded over of the middle icon - Virtual copy. To find this, you need to turn on the filters
click this and set it to rated (you can see the virtual copy icon unblurred in the image below)
Now you can just select the virtual images or by toggling that icon, you can see both,
    just like that.

In most cases the length of the command line exceeds the maximum length.
Try using a very short output directory name like C:\Out. Note that this
applies to Windows, I'm not sure how this works on a Mac.

  • Export Post-Processing Feature Request

Using a post-processing action such as a Photoshop droplet in an export is limited by the command line length which must be sent to the application (Photoshop in this case). This means that exporting a few files will work ok with the action but exporting hundreds of files will not - they export ok but the action is not executed.
Can the way the post-processing action is executed be modified so that smaller batches of files are processed instead of one very large batch at the end? Either have a mechanism which builds maximum length command lines OR a "batch size" parameter so that, for example, several hundred files are processed on lots of, say, 10?

    Roy-
Ian Lyons is one of the few kind souls who has the power to do that, but I am pretty sure there are current workarounds, short of buying a Mac! I don't do Windows, but check back as many others do and some will have suggestions.

  • Automated post processing of PDFs

The PDFs generated by RoboHelp are not production-ready in my
    opinion, because:
    - All bookmarks are expanded by default.
Acrobat Pro does not include a feature to collapse all
bookmarks at once (you can only collapse top-level bookmarks). You
have to collapse bookmarks either manually, or use the free Acrobat
plug-in "closebm" from Planet PDF. This plugin works with Acrobat 8
    BTW.
    - The initial page mode of the PDF generated with RH is set
to "Page Only". This means that the bookmarks panel is not
displayed when opening the PDF. My preferred setting is to show the
available bookmarks when a PDF is opened (Acrobat setting
    "Bookmarks Panel and Page").
Because we run everything in batch (compile help, publish
help) and because we do not wish to buy a full Acrobat license for
every author/publisher (the add-on that comes with RH should be
enough), I have created a solution that automatically collapses
bookmarks, sets the initial view to show bookmarks, and finally
linearizes (Fast Web View) the PDF.
You don't need Acrobat to do this and all auxiliary (and
free) programs to post process are in the sample project that you
    can download from
    here:
After unzipping the sample project, double-click the file
"PostProcessPDF.bat". This batch file will update the
"Printed_Documentation.pdf" in the folder "PDF Input" and put 2 new
versions in the folder "PDF Output":
    1. BookmarksCollapsed.pdf
    2. BookmarksCollapsed_Linearized.pdf
The following steps are performed in the batch file:
    - The bookmarks from the original RH PDF
("Printed_Documentation.pdf") are exported to XML using "iText
    Toolbox";
    - The resulting XML file is manipulated with "replace.exe"
(just a free command line search/replace tool that I found), so
    that bookmarks are set to collapse;
    - The manipulated XML file + original
"Printed_Documentation.pdf" are then combined in "iText Toolbox" to
    create the new "1. BookmarksCollapsed.pdf" in folder "PDF Output";
    - The "1. BookmarksCollapsed.pdf" in folder "PDF Output" is
processed with Ghostscript's "pdfopt" to linearize the PDF again.
When you change a PDF and just "Save" a PDF (also in Acrobat), Fast
Web View is gone. In Acrobat you have to 'Save As' or use the "PDF
Optimizer" to linearize the PDF again.
The sample project is pretty large (11 MB), but this is
because Ghostscript and iText Toolbox are included.
BTW, you must have Java installed to use "iText Toolbox".
    Have fun,
    Herman

I thought that because Ghostscript is command-line based, I
could just add the files to my sample project.
But apparently there are some dependencies, and you have to
install Ghostscript to use my sample files.
If you want to play around with my sample files, install
Ghostscript to the folder 'RH' (remove folder 'gs' first). It will
then install to folder RH\gs, where the batch file is expecting the
    Ghostscript files.
Latest version of Ghostscript can be found here:

  • Post processing PDF to XML.

    Topic
    Post-processing PDF into XML.
    Compton MacKenzie - 08:48am Oct 29, 2008 Pacific
    Hi,
Sorry for the basic question... We want to have users fill out a fillable PDF form using Aacrobat Reader and then upload it to a web page. Once we get the PDF, we need to extract the data that they have entered. Short of using LiveCycle Data Services (not currently feasible as we have no Java presence on our server platform), is there any API that I can use to extract the data or convert the PDF to XML. I understand that it is possible to export XML using the Acrobat client (and it might be possible to script this with COM) but I don't think this would work reliably in a server environment.
(We need both the PDF and the data as the PDF will contain an electronically captured image of a customer's signature and need to preserve the actual image of the document.)
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

There are server based products under the LiveCycle banner for this but they all run on a Java based app server. You can use a turn key install where the app server (JBoss) and a Database (MySql) are provided for you but you need to have the Java SDK present. The LiveCycle servers can run on Windows, Linux, AIX to name a few.
Note that if you script Acrobat to do this on the server you are in violation of your license agreement.

  • Get Page Count of PDF using Publication Post Processing Plugin

    Hi,
I am using the publiching functionality of BOXI 3.1 to create a large volume of PDFs.  I have a report that I am publishing using a publication with a post processing plugin applied after distribution.  I need to get the total page count of the pdf and store this value in the database.  Becuase I am already using a post processing plugin after distribution, it would be ideal to extract it there...but I cannot figure out how to get the value at this point.
Currently we parse the actual binary pdf file, but I know that Crystal and BOXI know this total page count and some point in the processing cycle.  Does anyone know how to get at the total page count of each pdf/report instance?
    Thanks,
    Kristina

I would post-process the PDF file as you're doing.
The total page count isn't metadata - it's something computable from the report instance, that is lost after the PDF is generated.
Trying to work with that would lead to a more complex workflow - i.e., schedule to report format, open the report instance using a reporting SDK, calculate the total page count, export using the reporting SDK to PDF, add the PDF to the publication artifact and remove the report instance, other steps I may have missed....

  • Post Processing: Not Really Working

Ok now that I've spent 2 hours trying to set up an automation that would save me time Im throwing up my hands...
Im trying to add a sharpening Action (to happen after resizing) to my export routine in LR.
(Which should be built in to LR)
I have created an Action in Photoshop.
    Saved it as a Droplet.
Put that in the Export Actions Folder in LR.
I run the export to Jpeg in LR and when it gets to my droplet It asks me to spec my quality settings for the Jpeg it has to reopen and save to apply post processing.
How do I get to add sharpening to jpegs produced by LR without having to do it manually?.
This Post processing thing with Droplets is Mickey Mouse if you ask me...

Droplets confuses lots of people, so I put a quick tutorial on my website: http://www.photoshopservices.co.uk/lightroom.htm

  • Post processing using NI6225

I have 12 NI6225 DAQ Boards (~960 chs).  I want to set up LV8 to read Ch1 on all 12 boards ( SW trigger) then Ch2 on all 12 boards, then Ch3 etc.  I need to store ALL this data then process it ( post process?)  after acquiring all 900 chs.  Any suggestions or examples ?  In post processing how does LV distinguish between the raw data from Ch1 board 0 and ch 2 board 0 or even ch1 board 1 ?
Make my day and answer this question.
    Thanks,
    Clint E.

    Clint,
In order to do this, you will need 12 individual tasks. Since you have
12 of these, I'm assuming that you have them inside of a PXI chassis.
The attached example is for 2 devices, but you can extend it to more by
repeating the bottom half of the code. You should physically locate the
master device (the one with the reference clock being exported) in slot
2 of your PXI chassis (the source of the star timing). In this code,
all other devices are synchronized with the master device reference
clock. Whenever the master's Start Task VI is called, this will assert
the AI Start Trigger signal on the master device, and all other devices
will use that as a digital trigger to begin their acquisitions. Please
make sure that all other devices execute their Start Task before the
master does (Merge Errors VI would be helpful). This process will
result in each of your devices acquiring samples at the exact same
time. The output of each analog read will output an array of waveforms,
with each waveform corresponding to the samples acquired on a single
channel of that device. To specify the order with which the channels
are scanned, order them that way in the physical channel control. For
instance Dev1/ai1,Dev2/ai3, Dev1/ai5 will acquire one sample from
channel 1, channel 3, and channel 5, then repeat. Please let me know if
this is not what you were asking, or if you have any additional
    questions.
    Hope this helps,

  • Lightroom Post-Processing

One thing I'd like to see added to the Lightroom export dialog, perhaps in the post-processing section, would be the option to update DNG previews and metadata (when exporting DNGs of course).

Thanks Dorin, but I think you misunderstood me a little.
I import my Canon CR2 images as DNGs and at that time I do set the preview size. Later on after I have adjusted the DNGs in the Develop module I export those DNGs in another format, usually JPGs. Then after I export the DNGs as JPGs, I now manually run "Metadata/Update DNG Previews and Metadata" so the DNG is up to date too.
That last step is what I would like to see as an option in the export dialog.

  • Workflow for Post Processing Magic Lantern RAW Video?

    Dear Adobe Community,
I am interested in learning what steps/workflow fellow DSLR, Magic Lantern users take to Edit, Color Grade and add FX to their RAW video?  Here is my untested thought process so far:
Adjust the Exposure, White Balance, Lens Distortion, Etc of DNGs in Adobe Camera Raw.
Import DNG image sequence into Premiere Pro for Editing
Use Dynamic Link to Color Grade in Speed Grade
Use Dynamic Link to add effects in After Effects
    Render out in Premiere Pro
One of the concerns I have is that I've read on the Magic Lantern Forums that Premiere Pro will reduce 14 Bit DNG to 8 Bit.  Is this something you've encountered?  Is there a workaround?
I am fairly new to all of this and would greatly appreciate any feedback to point me in the right direction for Post Processing Magic Lantern Raw Video files.  I have a subscription to Lynda.com as well if you have any suggestions for courses to look at.
    Thank-you for your time.

Nothing Adobe makes can read MLV or RAW video files, so you have to use something else to convert them into CinemaDNG (a folder of images) or a high bit depth movie file (ProRes etc.) - there are many tools listed in the ML forum which can do that.
Premiere Pro can import cDNG footage but it struggles to play back in real time, and will not allow you to grade it using Camera Raw. To do that you have to use After Effects. The workflow is supposed to be "ingest in Prelude, edit in Premiere Pro, color in SpeedGrade", but quite frankly the learning curve for SG is massive. Adobe's attitude to CinemaDNG is strange; although the standard is open, support is only coded for very specific models of camera and the CC suite assumes a Hollywood workflow where professional colorists (who spend years learning how to use the software) operate offline from the rest of the edit, usually after all the cuts are made. It's not set up for a typical lone DSLR filmmaker, which is quite frankly why a lot of ML users prefer another well-known way to resolve the problem.
The 'fast and dirty' approach to getting a cinematic grade in Premiere would be to apply LUT files to the footage using the Lumetri effect (basically running SpeedGrade presets), or you can hand-grade it using the inbuilt Color Corrector tools - but that doesn't cover the other important stuff that ACR can do, such as lens correction, alignment, noise reduction, camera calibration profiles, etc. - for that, you should import the cDNG footage into After Effects (which does support ACR), correct and calibrate the frames, then export back to something high quality that Premiere can work with (such as DNxHD or ProRes 444). You won't notice any visual loss in quality, and Premiere then will play the timeline without struggling, but it takes a loooong time to chew through every clip.
As to if Adobe applications will ever support MLV files natively - well, since Adobe relies on close partnerships with camera manufacturers including Canon, you can guess what would happen if Adobe ever endorsed it. The only scenario I can imagine is if MLV is adopted in-camera by a major DC manufacturer (Alexa, etc) so vendors can support it without slapping Canon in the face. Flying pigs come to mind.

  • Photoshop post processing

I'm hitting a limitation with the way Lightroom handles TIFF files.
I have nearly two thosands scanned slides saved as TIFF. In addition to the normal R, G and B channels, each TIFF file includes an additional "infrared" alpha channel. This channel is created by the scanner using an infrared light to isolate dust and scratches on the film surface. I can then use a Photoshop action to read this infrared channel and eliminate most of the dust and scratches from the TIFF image. This is a step I do when exporting the TIFF as a JPEG for instance. I do not want to overwrite the original TIFF file. It is like my "raw" scan and I want to save it in case I come across a better de-dusting technique in the future.
Now the problem. Ligthroom is my tool of choice for cataloging and editing photos. It can read TIFF files but any edit applied to one during the export stage discarts the infrared alpha channel. Only the R,G,B channels are kept. This means that I can't use a Photoshop droplet or action to remove the dust as a post process step. I currently do not see a solution short of either dropping Lightroom, or keeping duplicate images (the original raw and the de-dusted version).  Keeping duplicates is not an appealing option. It would take hundreds of GB of extra space to start with.
Has anyone come across a similar scenario? How can one handle Photoshop post processing that relies on alpha channel (or layers).
    Thanks

    Hi Jaap,
Here are the steps that I use to implement my own ICE dust removal. I'm on Photoshop CS3 mac by the way.
    1) Copy the alpha channel (infrared) into a new channel named "Dust".
    2) Adjust the level on the Dust channel to isolate only the dust. You should get something like below. Note the markers. I would overlap them but I've spread them very slightly here to show where they are. I always err on the side of removing all image details from this channel even if that means that some of the dust/scratches won't make it in. Of course, you can also edit the channel and manually add (painting in Quick Mask mode) any missing dust or remove any image detail left.
    3) Select the RGB channel
    4) Load the Dust channel as a selection (Select -> Load Selection, Channel: Dust, Invert: checked)
    5) Expand the selection by 1 pixel (Select -> Modify -> Expand)
    6) Apply the Dust and Scratches filter (Filter -> Noise -> Dust & Scratches, Radius: 6, Threshold: 0)
The Radius to use depends on the resolution of your scan. Play with it and try to find the smallest radius that will remove most of the dust. If you set the radius too large, the color used to fill in will average surrounding pixels farther away, which isn't as accurate for fine details. A resolution of 6 seems to give me good results with a 4000 ppi scanner like the Nikon CoolScan LS 5000.
    7) Work's done. Clean up by deselecting (Select -> Deselect, or simply Command D on a mac)
I've created an action for step 1 and another for steps 3 to 7. Step 2 is fully manual unfortunately. I don't think there is a way to set the markers programmatically like in the image above since the histogram varies for each image.
I also keep my alpha channel intact in case I find some better way to create the dust channel in the future. I'm a firm believer in the non destructive workflow. I won't scan these slides again. It may not even be feasible soon. Film scanners are being retired from the market much faster than I would have thought just a year ago.
    Hope this helps
