Post security update: Lost account

Very strange. After latest security update, my G4 showed the ACCOUNTS screen after restart. Would NOT take my password (did the "screen shake"). Then asked for MASTER PASSWORD, which I entered, then showed the familiar "Enter new password" screen, but still wouldn't let me in (did the "screen shake").
Another account that I set up is still accessable, however, but it won't let me see hard drives, etc. as per how I set it up. Account preferences WON'T open (I get a BLANK WINDOW).
Also: Can't log in from another computer. Can't repair permissions because it wants an adminstrator name and password.
Help!

I am quite certain that this has nothing directly to do with the Vienna Instruments software as I have been working with this library and with precisely these matrices for several weeks and encountered NO problems whatsoever until after I installed Apple's latest Security Update and the latest version of iTunes. Also there is the fact that launching Activity Monitor caused the problem to go away - - a possible indication of a system level anomaly.

  • Font problems post Security Update 2006-02?

This refers to Security Update 2006-02 v 1.0 as well as the elusive Security Update 2006-02 v 1.1.
For instance, Symbol dosern't work anymore in Keynote 2, or in fact in Text Edit.
Anyone else noticed this? If so, any ideas for possible solutions?

I think I'm wrong about this?
Apparently, Symbol-like characters have to be entered via the Character Palette, and not via Format > Font > Show Fonts.
I've managed to avoid knowing this all along, because my use of such symbols has been copy and paste from MathType into maths presentations.
    Sweet understanding at last!

  • Post 2010-005 security update freshclam now complains

I applied the 2010-005 security update to 3 of our Xserves. These invoke freshclam via a cronjob (/usr/bin/freshclam --no-dns --quiet). Post security update we now get this output mailed to us after the cronjob runs:
LibClamAV Warning: Cannot dlopen libclamunrar_iface: file not found - unrar support unavailable.
We still get our updates. Cannot locate libclamunrar_iface via locate. Google shows the problem occurring on linux distros but I'm not finding a direct reference for mac os x.
I'd like to stop these messages as they're spamming our log mailbox and indicative of something not being right with clam. Any ideas as to why the security update prompted this (aside from the update including a new version of clamav)?

  • Security Update 2014-002, Safari update issues

I have tested the latest 10.9.2 security updates on a client running DFX and it appears to completely break OS X. Our base image has proven faultless and unmodified (thanks to DFX) over 70+ clients for about a month.
Post security update installation, unable to login with error: Unapproved caller -SecurityAgent may only be invoked by Apple software. If a user is already logged in, any user initiated process that calls on PID 0 seems to result in the same error message.
This update seems to also kill Firefox (Latest version) with no returned error, just never seems to request proxy authentication.
I am too scared to test this on an unfrozen client (preventing me from utilising verbose boot) as I suspect it would entail a re-image. Below is the console log when attempting to use user fast switch. From what I can see, there appears to be some sort of strange permissions error but I am not really sure, anyone else suffering from this issue or have any solutions?

I'd expect to need to re-image here, based on what you're describing.   Load your current image somewhere, load the patch, unlock it, and see what you can get.   Usual general suggestion is a fairly thin image (usually "just" OS X), and then load up what you need on the clients via Munki or such, if you're not already following this general approach.  This makes re-generating images and updating hunks easier.
I've had issues with fast user switching and network users, and had to disable that for specific environments.  Not sure what you're up to here, though.

  • Lost User Account Settings After OSX Security Update

After loading the security update, the system booted up into OSX and into my account without asking for a password. Other than having the same dock icons and applications, my account seems to have been cleared. I have no files on my desktop and all my programs are reset, each one asking me to set it up, find registration and serial numbers, etc. The dock was at its default position on the bottom also.
I found my user account and the settings for it under Shared users on my MacIntosh HD. I don't know how it got there, but all my information is there...I just don't know hot to get OSX to use it instead of the bare bones settings it seems to have chosen.
Can anyone help me with this? I am still running OSX 10.3.9 on a Mac G4.
    Mac G4 MDD   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

The system would not allow me to do this because some files were in use in the account into which I was trying to copy. I had already been looking in the accounts prior to having a response and decided to do the following:
    1) create a new account with a different name - I used "owner"
    2) copy all the information from the old account which I found under shared into the new "owner" account
    3) log out of the account I was on (the labotomized version of my original account) and log on to new "owner" account. Verify links, files, etc...everything was good, just like it had been.
    4) rename the offending account.
    5) rename new owner account back to the old name.
    6) log out and back in the old account name...everything was back with my original account name.
Might not have needed all those steps, but I can't believe that worked. I was quite happy it worked, but still confused at to how that happened in the first place.

  • All users and settings lost on Security Update PRAM reset lost all

Just did a security update and on reboot, login window accepted my user and password, however, screen started to boot into normal desktop and would go back to login screen again. This would happen everytime.
Only option was to reset PRAM. Upon reboot, lost all users for email and all accounts are gone.
Can I rebuild the accounts without re-entering them all.

    Post more about your config.
    What OS version
Is the machine stand alone or an OD master/replica?
Were your missing users in LDAP?
When you say 'lost all users for email and all accounts are gone', explain where you are looking to discover the missing accounts.
What type of backup do you have?

  • Can no longer send or receive email from any account after Security Update

    Hello,
I have a problem with my email in Mail. I let software update install the latest security update (007) a few days ago. I have not been able to send or receive my email since the update. I have several accounts and use Mail as my client for all. This includes my mac.com account, 3 att.net accounts and my website email. All give me the same error which is an SSL thing and has something to do with the certificates. I am able to receive email if I turn SSL off on the ATT accounts but not the mac.com (and if I try to collect my email with SSL off I get an angry message from ATT warning me I am not allowed to do so) and I cannot send any at all from any account.
The error message reads "unable to connect- there may be a problem with the mail server or network.... The server error encountered was: Mail was unable to verify the identity of this server, which has a certificated issued to "mail.mac.com". The error was: An SSL error occured while trying to read data from the server. Verify this server supports SSL and that your account settings are correct". It then states that the certificate could not be verified.
The certificate date on the mac.com account reads May, 29th , 2010.
I also have an iMac and a MacBook Pro which are also running Tiger. I have not and will not run the security update on these machines until I find out why it has messed up my email on the G5. I can still send and receive email with the exact same account settings on the MacBook so I know it is not the settings but something to do with the Security Update.
Has anyone else had trouble with this update? Any advice?

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions ...
I don't know if this is a corrupted preference file or not, but it sure can't hurt to try this.
If Mail is open, Quit Mail.
    /Users/YourName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
Drag that .plist file to the Desktop. Launch Mail and see if you can send or receive e-mail. If you can, that .plist file is corrupted. Drag it to the trash, empty the trash and reboot. Your Mac will create a new preference file for you the next time you launch Mail.
Also... run Disk Utility and Repair Disk Permissions. Disk Utility is in your Applications/Utilities folder. Launch DU, select MacintoshHD 10.x.x in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab, click Repair Disk Permissions. Quit DU when it's finished and reboot.

  • Lost airport network share and print access - security update?

Roughly around the time I installed the last security update to my 10.3.9 iBook I lost Airport 802.11b access to printing services, afp and smb shares.
I still have internet services (email and web).
If I connect via fixed ethernet everything works.
    Any suggestions?

I fixed this, but I can't remember the full details. Sorry! I just wanted to mention there was a fix. I think I somehow tricked the system into forgetting all prior access and I rejoined the network.

  • Can Send Mail, But Can't Receive Mail (Post Safari 3.1 & Security Update)

    Weird!
I was able to receive mail when I first came in today, but since updating this morning to Safari 3.1 and Security Update, unable to receive messages.
In "Activity Viewer", I can see Mail trying to get messages but stalls on "Fetching new mail...", "[INBOX - XXX] Updating cache, comparing notes on server...", and "Synchronizing with server... Traversing mailbox hierarchy..."
Not sure if it's related to updates, but it sure seems like it
The IT guys here at work are VERY PC-biased and tend to blame these type of things on "those Macs", so I could use your help!!!

Yeah, I'm having problems as well since the update. I get a message from the mail app that says
Mail was unable to verify the identity of this server, which has a certificate issued to "mail.mac.com". The error was:
An SSL error occurred while trying to read data from the server "mail.mac.com". Verify that this server supports SSL and that your account settings are correct.
You might be connecting to a computer that is pretending to be "mail.mac.com", and putting your confidential information at risk. Would you like to continue anyway?
    I've not encountered this before.

  • Security update 2010-04-14 corrupted my user account

Has anyone else had a corrupted user account after installing the security update for Snow Leopard, 14th April ?
I applied the update, restarted my machine fine at home last night. Then I shut down my machine in full.
This morning I connected the ethernet to connect to my work Windows network domain. Turned the machine on and could not log in at all, my user account was corrupt. I ran permissions verification and repair from the admin account which has fixed the issue.
    Anyone else experiencing this ?
    Regards,
    -- Ross

Sorry for not being more specific. I was trying to update the WebKit rendering engine of Safari by replacing the following frameworks in the system folder: Javascriptglue (PrivateFrameworks), Javascriptcore, Webcore, Webkit. After discovering that this caused problems with software update and installer, I reverted back from the Time Machine backups of these frameworks. Now, I can not open any application that relies on these frameworks in my user account, which leads me to believe that a cache or preference file is corrupted, but I have no idea where to start looking. Most applications in other users accounts work fine, but for some reason Pacifist will not open the 10.5.2 package (to replace the frameworks). I'm writing this in Safari right now, and everything is fine. That's why I think the main system folders are fine, except for a cache here or there. Unfortunately, Onyx won't open so I can't replace the caches and do other tasks of that sort.
I could just roll back to before I tampered using Time Machine. Will that solve the problem, or is an archive and install a safer bet? I'm not sure that an archive and install will fix any problems that my user account is having, since I just created this new account today (thank god i enabled the guest account so I could access system preferences!) and it works fine, as I have already said. I hope this helps explain the specific problem. I'm just not sure how or why only my user account is affected. If the system files were corrupted, every account would have the same issue.

  • Can't access admin account after new security update

After installing a security update for OSX 10.4 on my G4 Tower I can no longer log into my main account. The trouble started with Keychain issues, I reset the keycain and now can't log in. I can login using the other account, but not my admin account.

  • Security Update 2008-006 SHA 1 digest does not match posted value

    : /usr/bin/openssl sha1 SecUpd2008-006PPC.dmg
    SHA1(SecUpd2008-006PPC.dmg)= 7b3aed47dbad3d55d90d093a6fb7a81c34c22a2c
    does not match the value:
    61898bf315d04958aaf487bb92ba257d059a33ce
    posted on the web page:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/securityupdate2008006clientppc.html
I've downloaded the file more than once but I get the same SHA1 value each time. I get this value:
    7b3aed47dbad3d55d90d093a6fb7a81c34c22a2c
The disk image mounts but I'm reluctant to install a security update (or anything else) that does match the posted SHA1 value.
Is the value posted on the web page wrong and the one I've gotten from the downloaded file correct or am I getting a corrupted/modified disk image?

Thanks for looking into this. As fas as I am concerned it is no corporate or school network. I have downloaded the file at home from my personal internet connection. This is a DSL connection that runs through a DSL router. My computer is connected directly to the router via ethernet cable. There is a firewall (packet filter) in place but nothing (that I know of) that modifies download files.
I have never had such problems before with this internet connection. And I have downloaded quite a lot of updates from Apple's web site with this connection and always checked the sha1 digest.
I just downloaded the security update at the company I am working for. So this is a corporate network. I got the same sha1 digest as before at home. Not sure if this helps.

  • Lost my Address Book contacts after a security update?

I am using OS X 10.4.7 and did a security update last night. Now I also have a Nokia E61 and since this morning I have lost all my contact in my address book on the Mac ( a powerbook). Since I didn't play around with the mac nor the nokia I am thinking that it all got lost in the security update.
I checked my iSync logs and there it indicates that it deleted all contact from my phone right after I did the restart for the update...
Can anybody help me get my contacts back?
I do backups but since just got back from my vacation I didn't have the time yet ..
    Many thanks,
    Rolf

    To answer my own qq,
Well I found some of my important contacts in the trash . They were under a folder named "Recovered files". There where a few named that way so you had "Recovered files #1", "Recovered files #2", till #6. In one of them I found my contacts again, well atleas the ones that I added over the hollidays .
Hope this helps someone else aswell
