Post-spill overheating - what can I do?

Last night, I spilled some sticky soda-type drink on the top left hand corner of my keyboard, and made the ridiculously stupid mistake of plugging in the (wet?) power chord. At this point, I thought all hope of recovery was lost.
I shut it down and booted it up repeatedly, each process getting to various levels (sometimes start screen, sometimes desktop, sometimes even apps running). Then after shutdown and restart for the nth time the computer died for good, and pressing the power button only gave a few low clicking sounds from inside; no reaction onscreen.
Every now and then though, it boots up and runs almost normally. The fan is just working up like crazy. I assume I ought to take it in for a clean, but I wouldn't mind clarification. Any idea as to why after dying, it occasionally boots up and runs normally (and indefinitely)? It seems a bit random to me. Also, is there anything I myself can do from home?

I suspect there's still liquid or glop inside the machine. Your second-worst mistake (after the spill itself) has been repeatedly trying to power up the machine before making sure it was completely dry. Unless you're incredibly lucky, something has already been fried, and in any case you're in for an extremely expensive repair. The sooner you get it in for the necessary work, the sooner you'll either get it back with all its gooey parts replaced or decide it isn't worth fixing and needs to be replaced.
Food and drink don't belong anywhere near a computer.

You can try resetting your iPad by simultaneously pressing and holding the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons until you see the Apple Logo. This can take up to 15 seconds so be patient and don't release the buttons until the logo appears.
Try again to see if the problem persists. If it doesn't work, there isn;t much anyone here can do for you. It may be a physical problem with your speakers.

Orient the computer vertically on its side so that water can drain out but leave the lid open as much as possible
Leave it that way for a few hours
Use a hairdryer to dry things out for another 30-60 minutes from all angles
Leave the device off all night with a fan blowing on it
Try to power up in the morning
At that point, the Mac will work OK, or you will know that you need to head to the repair shop
Or better yet, take the Mac to the repair shop first and let them power it up.

RESOLVED!!! I logged on to my Straight Talk online account, and did a Tech Chat. They immediately gave me a direct phone number and a Reference PIN number and asked me to contact their iPhone specialty support. I called (of course the gentleman's accent was very difficult for me to understand, but managed with asking continually for clarity). He walked me through several tests, setting changes and had me get on my wifi to obtain the latest APN settings. None of his efforts worked ad it was obviously NOT my Straight Talk iPhone 5, 64GB CDMA (no SIM) - it was something with their setting on their end on my account. I was placed on hold a few times and he would come back on to have me try to get on Safari and even Google... after the 3rd on-hold, he returned and asked me to try to use my data again without the wifi turned on and BINGO it worked... I still do not have my wifi turned on and I'm still receiving texts from YESTERDAY too while I was away from wifi service. IF you come across this issue - please call Straight Talk and/or log on to your Straight Talk online account and talk to an online customer service representative and get their direct line phone number for iPhone support and have your Reference PIN number available. Don't attempt to turn it back on. Remove the battery if you have a user removable battery. Take the mac to an Apple Store or AASP and expect a very large repair bill. More times then not, a liquid spill on a keyboard results in a damaged logic board, which usually costs several hundreds of dollars to replace. Liquid damage is not covered under warranty if you have AppleCare. Check with your renters/homeowners insurance to see if it may be covered.

So is that key the only thing that does not work? How much tea was spilled and did it dry out completely or ? Was there sugar in the tea?
If the key is the only thing, I'd take it to the nearest Genius Bar and ask if they could pop it back in.

No, not all network clients -- only the two mac portables and they run together very rarely. The windows machine is hardwired to the modem router combo, and that's always sailing smooth. The mbp that is most used is perhaps 20 feet max from the router - and in another room. But it also happens when I take in into the same room as the router. On occassion, I have noticed while using network diagnostics, that one digit in the IP number sometimes appears to go awry. I then try to set up manually - and it works for a bit but is hugely erratic.
I rigged a hand me down airport express and set up a separate network for the two macs and it ran beautifully for some weeks, but that little piece is now dead and none of the retailers in my suburb seem to have one in stock. I don't want to be forced to buy an airport extreme and here in India, there's no trustworthy online ordering option.
The man from the ISP's been here several times and I don;t think it is a modem/dsl issue because the smartphone connects and the macbook drops when both are the same distance from the router? I am truly foxed and intensely irritated! :-(

Lightroom/PV2012 does an awesome job on jpegs too. It doesn't have all the same data to work with as raws, so can't real the highlights in as well etc. but can buff 'em up pretty good... - try it!
I could give a more complete and detailed list of differences (e.g. camera profile & white balance), but you'll be discovering them shortly anyway .
In general: there are a few less options and you can't push 'em as hard - edits may need to be more "restrained" (conservatively applied).

Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with your iPhone 4. I would be concerned too if my iPhone was not powering on. I found an article with steps you can take when you encounter an issue like this. I recommend following the steps below:
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.

The X-Fi site tells about the instruction set and the architecture of the chip. Is it possible to write own "Soundshaders"? I mean own effets, which can be processed in Hardware and can be aplied to all 2D and 3D voices.
Nvidia has this FX-Studio to develop FragmentShaders for their Graphiccards.
I simply can't believe that the "entertainment mode" uses up all resources of this chip. A 0band Equalizer is for me something to laugh at, you know.
I want to compensate all the parasitic effects in my room.
I want to correct the resonaces, the frequency plot of my speakers(down to 25Hz if possible), of course the resonances of my speakers.
If you tell me, that it can't be done in gaming mode, because of performance lacks. That wouldn't be a problem, as i only intend to listen to music.
Can anyone tell me what can be done and what can't.
I simply want to know, what this soundcard can do for me, before i intend to spend a few hundred bucks on it.
I hope anyone replys!

Lenovo System Update fried my BIOS... What can I do?

Hi all,
I'm in a bind. I did a clean install of Vista, and then I ran ThinkVantage System Update. It pulled up the BIOS update as a critical issue (among others) and so I consented to install it. The problem is, halfway through the update process, it stopped responding. I gave it two hours, then, thinking that it might be okay (the updater hadn't gotten to "erasing old BIOS" or whatever...) I rebooted it.
Four beeps and then nothing. Nothing.
I took it to my university's ITS department, and they recommend a system board replacement. I can't afford that.
I was wondering if there was a way that I could reflash the BIOS myself, or if I had to send it to depot, what sort of time and cost I am looking at. Can anyone advise me on what I should do?

By doing so it looks as though they got their problem was solved.

Everyone reading your posts here is just another MacBook Pro user. We're all volunteers, not Apple employees. No one here can speak for Apple.
In my personal opinion, buying Apple products in a country where Apple has no stores and no corporate presence is a risk that the buyer takes knowingly. I don't think it's a wise risk, and I don't recommend that anyone take it. A small percentage of the products sold anywhere are going to have problems, and it makes more sense to buy an inferior product that can at least be serviced locally than to buy a superior product that may have to be sent thousands of miles for repair if anything ever goes wrong with it.
