LOL, It´s real. Didn´t know the real power of this video card, don´t you?
Then, I will post my score in future mark to demostrate that´s true.

You were right... i had to unistall the GART driver , then unistall the ForceWare 61.77 then reboot and reinstall the GART first followed by the gfx drivers...
... then hey presto the AGPx8 is operational and on a stock 6800GT/3500 system I got
    3dMark01 = 22,500
    3dMark03 = 11,850

    Hi,
I have a Sun SPARC box . There are 7 instances 2 in 9.2.0.8 and 5 in 10.2.0.1 upgraded earlier than my joining. I want to upgrade one of the 9.2.0.8 databases.
The database to upgarde is up and running and can be connected through listener.
I login as the owner of ora10g and start dbua. It shows me all the 7 databases but when I select the database to upgrade it throws the following info :
[b]The Upgrade Assistant Failed in bringing up the database xxxx. Oracle Home /oracle/9.2.0.8 obtained from /etc/oratab was used to connect to the database. Either the database is not running from Oracle Home /oracle/9.2.0.8 or correct Initialization pfile was not found.
It then asks for pfile. -----------------------------------
The database is up and running. The Oracle home is also correct in Oratab file.
    I checked the sqls.log file
    It has info like
    set heading off
    set pagesize 0

    set linesize 2048
    set sqlprompt 'SQL_ENGINE_END_OF_SQL'

Please help on this issue . Y cant the DBUA see that database is up?

  • Kt600 delta post your gripes here!

Major gripes with this board :-
1.why should i have to spend another £50 - £80 on a top of the range psu
       just to  run a £55 motherboard ?
The amount of people on this forum who have had to upgrade their psu just
to get this board up and running is unbelievable
    2. heat :- this board runs a good 10 - 15 degrees higher than its nforce 2
counterparts ! so you have to go out and buy uprated cooling  to
        get a stable  system
never mind trying to clock it
kt6 chipset :-this is the most unstable board i have ever fitted costing more in the long run to get it all up and running than any other ive built
shall stick to the nf2 in future
feel free to post your moans

1: The heat on the cpu, increased ALOT from my old KT400, very strange.  It vas before, 39-40 (Idle) now its 45-46, much more I think, maybe there is something wrong with the sensor, or the KT400 had a 'good n' sweet days' sensor.
Well, that would be everything I think.
I ran my XP2500+ at 3200+ yesterday, and it was very stable, but I had to increase my  TwinMOS PC2700 memory to 3v to have them in 400 mode. And even then I had to remove Ultra mode and everything else fast, that made the computer slower, atlest in 3dmark, then default clock on everything So I will just get better mem and then I will go 3200+ everyday, I hope, if there wont be a problem with the heat.
Using a open window, and a Cooler Master Aero 7 LITE at 45% speed, I suppose I can increase the speed if I want to clock but Its very loud then.  I think, as I said that there might be some error with the sensor, cause the window was open, and the computer was just under it and totaly open, no plates or sidepanels or something, also it was -3C outside (sweden). The old motherboard (K4v) got much colder.
EDIT: I have a Q-TEC 550W (you say they suck, not mine ) and I still got very good voltage even when Im in so extreme overclock (to me that is extreme )

the BIS is not stopped. BIS is still required for OS7 and previous.

  • Low 3DMark 2003 Score

    Hi all.
I've had my system now for a few weeks and finally got around to seeing what the 3DMark 2003 score is.... now on Tomshardware, similary systems get scores of around 6000. My latest score was 3006, which seems way too slow.
Here is the 3DMark 2003 Breakdown:
    GT1 - 119.5fps
    GT2 - 14.4fps
    GT3 - 13.8fps
    GT4 - 24.6fps
    CPU Score - 684
    CPU Test 1 - 79.5fps
    CPU Test 2 - 11.6fps
    My system is as follows:
    AMD Athlon 64 3000+ (200Mhz FSB)
MSI Neo K8T800 with latest BIOS (using Via 4.51 drivers)
Hercules Radeon 9800Pro 128Mb (using Catalyst 3.10 Drivers)
    DX9.0b
    Windows XP Pro (32Bit) SP1
    2 x Corsair 512Mb 3200 DDR CAS 2.5N (single channel)
No additional Cards (I used onboard LAN, Soundcard, etc).
I'm thinking that I haven't set something right up in the BIOS, but I can't think for the life of me what it would be. I've used the MSI Update tool to get the latest drivers for everything (as of 13th January 2004).
    Any ideas?
    Many Thanks
    Steven

Thanks - when I get back home tonight (at work at the moment). I'll post my BIOS and CPU-Z settings.
The only problem I had during the installation of Windows was the order of installing the drivers - I would get video card problems if I installed VIA Chipset drivers THEN ATI Catalyst (ie Black screen), but no problems if I installed the ATI Catalyst THEN VIA Chipset.
I've also found I get major problems if I have Fast Writes Installed.
The AGP Aperature is set to 64Mb.
    Power Supply is 400 Watt
I'm very impressed with the fast responses in this forum, btw! Thanks

  • Best export settings? Post your tips!

I have been using iMovie for a long time. I have messed with settings quite a bit but the files always come out huge. I have seen other people's QT movies with great image quality for small file size. I have no idea how they do it.
My best experience in iMovie is to use the CD-ROM setting for export. This gives it the window size that I want, with a small file size, while maintaining pretty good image quality.
I'm talking about custom settings here. I need something other than the pre-made settings. There are so many custom options, but they're all way over my head. My goal is to use something other than h264, but keep the CD-ROM quality and size.
Does anyone have any good custom settings they recommend for getting a good balance of dimensions, image quality, and file size?
If so, post your tips! Let us know your favorite export settings!
    --Timothy

The export settings are determined by the way the file is to be viewed.
"Local" files (those on CD's or fast networks) can be much larger in file size because bandwidth isn't much of an issue. Sent to iDVD and they make great videos that can only play in DVD players or software.
"Web" based files are a new can of worms because each persons opinion of "good" and also "small" file size differ so much.
Best advice anyone can give you is for you to make your own sample export "tests":
Take a minute sample (a part that has high action and motion) and choose the "Expert Settings" to send the file to QuickTime.
Try various video codecs and adjust the data and frame rate to raise or reduce file size.
Try AAC audio (very popular audio format) but set the frequency to "half" of CD quality (22050 Hz). This will be half as large in file size.
If your camera didn't record in stereo (most don't) set the file to mono and you reduce the file size in half again.
Compression is nearly an art form and the options in the expert settings can be a bit confusing.

  • The DATA CAP MEGA THREAD....post data cap questions or comments here.

In the interest of keeping things orderly....This is the DATA CAP MEGA THREAD....post data cap questions or comments here.
    Please keep it civil.
Comcast is testing usage plans (AKA "data caps") in certain markets.
The markets that are currently testing usage plans are:
Nashville, Tennessee market: 300 GB per month and additional gigabytes in increments/blocks ( e.g., $10.00 per 50 GB ).
Tucson, Arizona market: Economy Plus through Performance tiers receive 300 GB. Those customers subscribed to the Blast! Internet tier receive 350 GB; Extreme 50 customers receive 450 GB; Extreme 105 customers receive 600 GB. Additional gigabytes in increments/blocks of 50 GB for $10.00 each in the event the customer exceeds their included data amount.
Huntsville and Mobile, Alabama; Atlanta, Augusta and Savannah, Georgia; Central Kentucky; Maine; Jackson, Mississippi; Knoxville and Memphis, Tennessee and Charleston, South Carolina: 300 GB per month and additional gigabytes in increments/blocks ( e.g., $10.00 per 50 GB ) Economy Plus customers have the option of enrolling in the Flexible-Data plan.
Fresno, California, Economy Plus customers also have the option of enrolling in the Flexible-Data plan.
    - If you live outside of these markets you ARE NOT currently subject to a data plan.
    - Comcast DOES NOT THROTTLE your speed if you exceed your usage limits.
    - You can check out the Data Usage Plan FAQ for more information.

I just got a call today that I reached my 300GB limit for the month.  I called and got a pretty rude response from the security and data usage department.  The guy told me in so many words that if I do not like or agree with the policy that I should feel free to find another service provider.!!! I tried to explain that we watch Netflix and XFinity on-demand alot and I was told that that can not be anywhere close to the data usage. I checked my router and watching a "super HD, dolby 5.1" TV show on Netflix will average about 5-6 GB per hour (1.6MB/s) ... sp this means that I can only watch no more than 1-2 Super HD TV shows a day via Netflix before I run out of my data usage.    This seems a bit redicilous doesn't it? Maybe the TV ads about the higher speed than the competition should be accompanied with "as long as you don't use it too often"   Not a good experience ...

    Greetings Aimmekat (is that right?)
Hey I like your web site, generally speaking. My suggestions would be more in the arena of spacing of text. I find, as a designer, that the more 'air' I put between text lines the better it is for the eyeballs. The tighter the text lines are, the less likely are people going to read your message. That was my initial impression, at least. You'll see; if you simply spread the text a bit -- add space between the lines, you'll notice an immediate improvement in the 'feel' of the page.
Here's my site. It's my portfolio site, which I am also going to make my blog and personal site. But until I get those pages going, for now it serves as my portfolio only.

(Sorry, wasn't sure how to make it a link in this forum -- maybe you can share?)
Please know that because I am a designer, I make no claims to expert analysis of your site. The suggestions I offer are my opinion only. I'm only almost 50, so I have many years of experience to gain before I can call myself any sort of expert. Man, now that I look at what I typed, I sound like a really old ****. 50 -- can that be true?
Hey, thanx for starting this thread, It's good to see what others are doing and find some stuff I can steal and claim as my own. Isn't that what good design is, after all?
    Thanx

  • Proof: ever running left fan is the harddrive! Post your drives!

    Hi!
I know there are some posts around here from users that report that their left fan is always running. I started one of those threads myself. Therefore I also know that there is debate, whether this sound comes from the harddrive or from the left fan spinning slowly.
Yesterday I was in a store because my mbp made all kind of noises but this constant sound that seemed to be rather loud on my book was my major concern (I can hear it from a few meters away in a silent environment in which I work most of the time). The technician tried some hacks to shut off the harddrive, but they seemingly didn't work (he actually concentrated on the whine because it was too loud in the store too hear the "swoosh" and because it also has a very intense mooing and a bent case, it's still doa and will be replaced in the next days).
Anyway, today I suddenly noticed that the noise had stopped. I was extatic. As soon as I clicked on something, the noise would start again though.
So: What did the technician do? He set the disksleep timer to a minute. I thought, it then would spin down for a minute. That's why it didn't seem to work, when I ran the command in terminal again in a quiet environment. So after a minute now, my harddisk would spin down.
So here is how you can test if your drive is the everlasting "swoosh"-producer. Don't do anything of the following if you feel as if you had no idea of what you are doing! I can give you no warranties at all (esp. harddrive-damage. See question below! I think it's best to reimpose your normal energy saving settings afterwards and not let the disk spin down every minute)!!!
    - Open a terminal-window (it's in applications->utilities)
    - Type sudo pmset -a -g disk and note the "disksleep" settings for battery and ac.
    - Type in the following command:
    sudo pmset -a disksleep 1
You will then need to enter your administrator password.
This will actually set your disksleep timer to a minute (for battery and ac. If you only want to test this for one of those states, use -b (battery) or -c (charger) instead of -a. This could make it easier to go back to your former settings afterwards, in case your ac and batterysettings differ). It is normally tied to the sleep mode of your mbp in general. That's why it's easy to think it's the fans.
    - To check, if it worked, enter:
    sudo pmset -a -g disk
The new time should then show up under disksleep for both ac-power and battery.
Then just don't touch the book for a minute. Don't do anything with it. Don't click anywhere. After a minute, the harddrive should spin down, leaving you with complete silence. As soon as you do anything that requires hardware access (even clicking on a scrollbar in a programm that runs from an external disk) you will hear the harddrive spin up.
Changing the disksleep might actually change your energy settings. So after trying this you can reset the disksleep to it's previous status by going into the energy saving preferences and readjusting everything. Use the sudo pmset -a -g disk to check if everything is back to normal. Maybe you need to go into the manager another time so the changes will be made.
My question is: Does it hurt the harddisk to spin up and down often? When I set this to a minute and e.g. write a post here, it will spin down or when I read a webpage, it will spin down until the next click of my mouse. So there isn't so much use for it anyway. But will it damage the harddrive over time when it is spinning down so often?
If you think your mbp is very silent, I'm interested in what harddrive you have. If you think, your mbp is unnervingly loud, please post your harddrive as well. (you can find the info in finder->applications->utilities->system profiler->serial-ata)
    Mine is a:
    Capacity: 74.53 GB
    Model: TOSHIBA MK8032GSX
    Version: AS114B

So here is how you can test if your drive is the
everlasting "swoosh"-producer. Don't do anything of
the following if you feel as if you had no idea of
what you are doing! I can give you no warranties at

will it damage the harddrive over time when it is

The HD is a finite par, so increasing its usage above the norm. will probably decrease its life-span of effective use.

  • P7n platinum - e8400 overclocking issues, pls post your settings

    Dear OC experts,
I have troubles overclocking e8400 to 3.6 ghz on p7n platinum board. I have tried many variables and options in BIOS, but the problem remains the same. While doing regular tasks on my PC, everything seems to be stable, but when I start a game (battlefield 2 bad company or skyrim) the PC freezes. I have upgraded BIOS to the latest version, I have all the newest drivers, tried many different settings in the OS, but it does not help. The video card is gtx560. There are no problems/freezing when I set all the values in the cell section in bios back to default.
I have searched web alot, my eyes are red... The only remaining hope - you : )
I would greatly appreciate your help. Could you please post your bios settings for the OC'ed e8400 if you have the same board.
    My systems is:
    E8400, 4GB 800mhz 6400 RAM
    3 HDD (total 1TB)
    GTX560 1GB
    Win7 64bit
PSU CORSAIR Enthusiast Series 650W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready
Thank you very much in advance.

Yes I know its the Diamond board, but the OC basics are the same and all the BIOS options are probably pretty similar.
See if that helps you for now.
