Posterize time + time remapping makes video dissappear

I am trying to duplicate an effect I've used on an avid system, speeding up video then strobing it. I've been using the time remapping to adjust the speed then applying a posterize time effect to achieve the "strobe" look. Half the time it works great, the other half as soon as I put the posterize time effect on the clip (without even adjusting the values), the video dissappears. Changing the time rate doesn't seem to make a difference...happens on clips of varying lengths...no real consistency to when it will do this.

The CC warp stabilizer works way better than iMovie's, has many more options, and will stabilize shots that iMovie can't deal with effectively.
The proper production workflow is to stabilize, render or pre-compose and then time remap. You can do all of this without the render by simply applying warp stabilize to a layer, pre-composing the layer, then applying time remapping to the pre-comp.
The solution to something not working when you try and apply multiple effects to a single layer is almost always apply the first effect (warp stabilizer) and then pre-compose and apply the other effects. That's how you apply a mask or an effect to a ray traced 3D layer. That's how you stabilize and time remap.

How do I clean my mid 2007 iMac?
The disk space is running VERY low and I would love an idea. I make videos and upload them to youtube and I need space to do that. Thanks for your time!
If you have an idea please respond!

You should never, EVER let a conputer hard drive get completely full, EVER!
With Macs and OS X, you shouldn't let the hard drive get below 15 GBs or less of free data space.
If it does, it's time for some hard drive housecleaning.
Follow some of my tips for cleaning out, deleting and archiving data from your Mac's internal hard drive.
Have you emptied your iMac's Trash icon in the Dock?
If you use iPhoto, iPhoto has its own trash that needs to be emptied, also.
If you store images in other locations other than iPhoto, then you will have to weed through these to determine what to archive and what to delete.
If you use Apple Mail app, Apple Mail also has its own trash area that needs to be emptied, too!
Look though other Apple Mail folders like the junk mail and delete the mail that is in there. Look through your sent items folders and see there is any mail in there that can be deieted.
Delete any old or no longer needed emails and/or archive to disc, flash drives or external hard drive, older emails you want to save.
Other things you can do to gain space.
Once you have around 15 GBs regained, do a search, download and install OmniDisk Sweeper.
This app will help you locate files that you can move/archive and/or delete from your system.
STAY AWAY FROM DELETING ANY FILES FROM OS X SYSTEM FOLDER!
Look through your Documents folder and delete any type of old useless type files like "Read Me" type files.
Again, archive to disc, flash drives, ext. hard drives or delete any old documents you no longer use or immediately need.
Look in your Applications folder, if you have applications you haven't used in a long time, if the app doesn't have a dedicated uninstaller, then you can simply drag it into the OS X Trash icon. IF the application has an uninstaller app, then use it to completely delete the app from your Mac.
Download an app called OnyX for your version of OS X.
When you install and launch it, let it do its initial automatic tests, then go to the cleaning and maintenance tabs and run the maintenance tabs that let OnyX clean out all web browser cache files, web browser histories, system cache files, delete old error log files.
Typically, iTunes and iPhoto libraries are the biggest users of HD space.
move these files/data off of your internal drive to the external hard drive and deleted off of the internal hard drive.
If you have any other large folders of personal data or projects, these should be archived or moved, also, to the optical discs, flash drives or external hard drive and then either archived to disc and/or deleted off your internal hard drive.
    Good Luck!

  • Can I make a time lapse effect from video footage?

Is there a way to easily create a time lapse effect from video footage in Final Cut Pro 7?
I have hours of footage - too many hours to just do speed changes.
Is there a way to automatically grab a frame and hold it for a half second or so every 30 seconds?
    Thanks,

Depends what you mean by "easily".
I have hours of footage - too many hours to just do speed changes.
I think doing via speed changing may be the easiest way to do this. Once the footage is ingested, get it to the timeline and do your speed up. At least this gives you the option of trying different speeds to get the effect you want, and the option to vary the speed as needed.
Is there a way to automatically grab a frame and hold it for a half second or so every 30 seconds?
Yes, but it somewhat complex. You need to buy an app from the app store called SnapMotion 2 (which I think is around $3.99).
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/snapmotion/id548959270
SnapMotion allows you to take a video a file and pull still frames at interval you specify and in the format a frame size you choose, and save them as individual images.
So you would set up the interval you want (say 30 seconds) and SnapMotion will go through the file and pull an image every 30 seconds. You would need to do that to all your files.
(I have never done this with a file that was longer than 10 minutes, so you should check with the developer and see if it will work with very long - multi hour - clips).
Once you have all your pulled stills, then open QuickTime Player 7 and import the still images as an image sequence.
Once you have the image sequence built in QuickTime, export it in the codec you want to use in FCP.

  • It's time for the itms-video-store AUSTRIA!! make it real apple!

hey apple! it's time for the itms-video-store here in austria!!!!
we are waiting so long!! we can't wait any longer!!
when? when? when will it come true and we also can buy videos in itms??????

Apple can't sell the videos in Austria (or any other country) unless and until the owners of said videos will allow it, and to date they've not allowed Apple to sell most videos, or any TV shows, anywhere but in the US. No one here will have any idea when, or even if, that will ever happen. If you want to push someone, write to the US TV networks and record companies and express your interest to them directly.

  • Every time I click on videos it kicks me out

Every time I click on videos on my iPod touch it kicks me out every time I push videos

You may not have enough ram (memory) to launch the videos app.
Every time you launch an app on an ipod touch, even after you return to the home screen the app is running in the background.  This also applies for the iphone and the ipad.
You may have many apps (or a few memory hungry apps) running in the background and there just isnt enough available memory to launch the app.  Think of your perminent storage space like a filing cabinet and your ram/memory as your desk.  If your desk is small and you already have several files open on the desk, there may not be enough room to open up any more files, and moving from one file to another becomes more labour intensive and takes time.  Whereas if you only had two files out you could flit between them quite speedily.
If this is the problem, you essentially need to put some files back in the cabinet first.
To do this, double-tap the home button.  This should bring up a bar of "open" apps at the bottom of the screen.  Press and hold one of the apps until they start shaking and the 'no-entry' badge appears in the corner of all of the icons on that bottom row.  Click the badge on each of the apps until all of them have dissappeared.  Don't worry, you are not deleting the apps, merely closing them down in the background.  Once you have finished you can either press the home botton to exit this memory bar or press in the middle of the screen.
This may not be the resolution you need, but is a useful thing to do anyway.  It will speed up your device and make using other intensive applications easier.

  • Time lapse vs. Video

I went to shoot a sunset yesterday and it wasn't anything special. So I thought I would try time lapse instead of video just to see how it would come out. It's kind of interesting. I am not yet sure how I feel about it. The focus is a little soft but it pretty much looked like that due to the hazy day.
I saw a cool video that was all stills, but included some bursts of photos. I want to try that next. Amtrak Trains or BART trains probably. And maybe airlanes landing or taking off (or both).
Anyone have any advice before I get too deep into this?

About 2 years ago this "timescape" thing was being edited and the guy was looking for "pre-orders" to help finance the edit and glass masters and etc....so I ordered a DVD. Got it a around last May. I like helping to support art people like that. The DVD is good quality and it's a nice film. Well done.

In the 'about' area ( I think thats the area ) the website shows some of the rigs. There's more info on those rigs around on web, and for motion control stuff in general. Nowadays 'robotics' is very popular in schools ( high schools etc ), and most of that stuff is easily ( along with RC model hobby equipment ) modified to make your own motion control stuff.
The dolly with skateboard wheels is exactly what I was talking about... and of course the size of platform is entirely arbitrary. The main thing with time lapse ( if you go this far with it ) is you need to determine what the move it ( camera from point A to B ). Then the time you want to travel that in ( if its stars etc then it's the length of the night ). Once you know that you can fix the "speed" of the dolly in your head. The thing now is to divide that into "parts" so that you can do a process of shoot, move, shoot, move, shoot, move, shoot, move ....from point
A to point B....and be done at the time desired. That, like your stage movement Bill, is all there is to it and now ( due to popularity of robotics and rc remote control stuff ) can be done using circuit boards ( interfaces ) with PC and software that lets you plot that without having to use basic language or C+ etc. on your own.
The motors available have many variations of gear systems for power and torque etc, and you could even just use ( like Steve said ) a winch ( with spool and cable ), as long as you work out the distance to travel and the time to do that in.. then you can use the interface to just turn it on and off to do your move, and your remote gizmo to "expose" x number of frames per position.  Basically it's a simple motion control thing IMO ??
Stuff is typically really expensive in film biz mostly cause there's not much competition in manufacturing, so making my own stuff is often the way to go. Skateboard wheels ( and bearings ) can be ordered from hobby stores where they sell skateboards. They also have the spacers ( like, you know.. the part that traps the bearing in position away from the mount ? ).. and the bolt size that fits through the bearing is standard.. I think it's 3/8 but dont remember now.
Anyway, hehe.. yeah, Bill, you wouldn't believe all the stuff on the typical " grip " truck for locations.. cool things to build all sorts of tricky rigs etc.
In the end it is just about 'doing' it, not how its done. We used to use wood and rope for car hood and door mounts.. before using speedrail and ratchet straps...whatever 'works' is good to use.
Sliders are typically used to let the camera operator make minor " adjustment" ( lateral ) during a shot to basically keep a happy frame..
Let's say its two people yappin in frame and it's a dirty single. So you want a piece of the foreground person ( side of face from back ) in frame while focusing on the background person speaking.. will draw pic....
So, if the guy gets blocked operator can slide camera left to open up the frame...get the shot..
Usually this is pretty low ball stuff like episodic TV and not some big budget film for projection. Hard to explain, but due to time restraints ( meaning 'money' restraints too) the slider allows for hopefully saving shots that would otherwise have to be cut and another take done. If talent is good they dont do this sorta blocking thing hardly ever cause they 'know' what the lens is seeing and what mm it is ( how tight ).
Anyway, that's the real use of the slider.

  • Time lapse effect from video footage NOT from sequence of photographs?

    Hi forum,
hard to find this with a search because most of the links are about using photo sequence.
Which effect can make the appearance of time lapse movies using video footage not photo sequence. Preferably I would like to have control on the speed at different sections.

If you want to simulate timelapse with standard video all you should have to do is speed up the footage. IOW, retime a 1 hour take to 10 seconds and it will look like timelapse.
If you want to simulate long exposure timelapse (like where the lights of cars are streaks) then you have a lot more work to do. You'll need to use something like the Echo effect and then adjust the timing. It would help if we knew a little more about your project. I've been shooting timelapse for more than 40 years and I've used about 100 different techniques. It's hard to replicate all but one of them using a video camera.

Netflix, HBO Go, ABC TV along with other apple TV apps, take a very long time to download the video and they are choppy when running. My apple TV runs off of WiFi in my apartment. When trying to download updates, it take a long time and then a video screen with "This Update was not Successful. Apple TV couldn't be downloaded at this time. Try again later." What can I do to resolve this issue? I purchased this apple TV in May 2013 new.

That will be an issue with the network
What is your current connection via speedtest.net?
Make sure DNS is set to auto (settings - general -network)
Since you are in an apartment the local wifi network is more prone to interference, try ethernet

How can I force Time Machine to make a complete backup of my Hard Drive.  I just installed a new external drive for Backup since my previous one failed.  Now when I back up, Time Machine only backs up my data folder and the Users folder.
When I start a backup. Time Machine says "Oldest Backup: None; Latest Backup: None", so it seems like it should do a complete backup, but it only does a partial.

Hi I'd like to jump in here. Your app showed me this:
    Time Machine:
              Skip System Files: NO
              Mobile backups: OFF
              Auto backup: YES
              Volumes being backed up:

Size of backup disk: Too small
                                  Backup size 999.86 GB < (Disk used 453.81 GB X 3)
Time Machine details may not be accurate.
All volumes being backed up may not be listed.
              /sbin excluded from backup!
              /usr excluded from backup!

              /bin excluded from backup!
              /private excluded from backup!
              /Library excluded from backup!
              /Applications excluded from backup!
Aside from the size of my backup drive, which I will increase at some point, I'd really like to have time machine backing up all system folders, especially Applications. How to I reset this hidden exclusions?

Time Capsule only works for one device at a time, how to make it capable to be used for multiple devices at times.
Please help to set it up, thanks in advance

You need to give more info..
Firstly only works for what.. networking.. backup.. wireless. You need more nouns.. more adjectives... describe what you want and what fails.. then we can figure out why.
Most likely you have bridged it when it should be in router mode..
Most likely you are using Lion or ML which has the airport utility bridge the TC by default.
Change it to working as a router. That might help.
If you press reset button it will default back to router btw.
If you are on Lion.. use a real utility. http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1547

the time capsule is giving flashed amber light and i cant connect it to my mac book pro. i want to use it with the time machine to make backup for my mac. please advice me.

To do the setup, plug it in via ethernet.. do not try to setup over wireless.. Once it is setup you can plug the TC into the network and use wireless.
Most likely you will use the TC in bridge to an existing modem router.. but we cannot help as you have no details of the network setup.
I do recommend in the setup of the TC you use SMB type names.. that means, short, no spaces pure alphanumeric.. as later Mac OS do have issues with long names, spaces and that apple shocker, the apostrophe.
