Posterized Sunset Pictures in iMovie

I have sunset photos taken in Aruba with a Canon EOS 40 D camera shot in RAW at high resolution. I use Photoshop CS4 to print, use iPhoto 9, Aperture 2 and Lightroom 2 for slideshows, and they all look great; however, when I bring a picture into iMovie and/or iDVD because I want to burn a DVD with music, all of the sunset photos become posterized, but any other photos appear fine. Sunset pictures are not posterized in iPhoto 9, Aperture 2, Lightroom 2, and even Adobe Premiere Elements in Windows XP. What is happening and how do I avoid this? The only way I have found is to desaturate the photos, but then they do not look like a sunset picture and it defeats the purpose. Your help is appreciated.

since this is an iMovie question it probably will be best to post in the iMovie forum - http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=141

Yes. I have tried the highest quality JPEGs, and when that did not work I also tried Tiffs. It did not seem to make any difference. Thanks for your question. I thought perhaps it was an export problem from iPhoto, etc., so I then just tried dragging the photos into iMovie and/or iDVD. That did not help either. It appears both programs compress the files when they are opened. I am hoping there is a workaround for it.

  • How do I insert a picture into iMovie regardless of aspect ratio

When I insert a picture, i either have the choice of cropping the picture or having black bars on the sides. How can I insert a picture into imovie and not be dictated based on the aspect ratio. thanks

Must be one of the wonderful improvements introduced in iMovie 11.
    nope, never.
    look:
    example #1: a 1:1 pic in a 16:9 screen
    option A bars l/r
    option B cat-off
example #2: a wiiiide screen pic in a 16:9 screen
    option A bars t/b
    option B catcut off
and you don't want kitty look like that:
(1:1 aspect ratio distorted to make fit onto a 16:9 screen)

  • Cannot see still pictures in iMovie from iPhoto. Please help!!!

I had a few pictures sent to me via e-mail and I was able to download and open them through iPhoto. However, I am unable to view them with my other iPhoto pictures in iMovie. Have you ever heard of this happening and do you know how I can get the photos to appear in iMovie?

I'm not sure about the viewing them but I know if your pictures come out blurry, transfer them by USB. Maybe you could try that with the pictures you sent via e-mail because email kind of messes up the pictures.

  • Importing iphoto 09 pictures into imovie 09 with ken burns movement!

Im making a video on imovie 09 using still images i took and imported to iphoto. Then i import those iphoto pictures into imovie, BUT all the pictures have moving "ken burns" crop effects on them after i import them to imovie!!! i know how to fix it, by going to the "crop tool" and "ken burns" adjusting the start and end effect of this movement but my question is....
how do i change this setting so I dont have to tediously use the cropping ken burns tool on every clip which will probably make all the images appear shaky??????

Go to FILE/PROJECT PROPERTIES and you can set the default behavior when importing photos to the project.

  • How do you import pictures to imovie?

How do you import pictures to imovie?

well first you import the pictures to iphoto. Then go to imovie, once you have selected a project you can look in the right corner, you see a camera click on it. Then click on "photos" and there they are!

  • Can you take a snapshot or picture from IMovies?

Can you take a snapshot or picture from IMOVIES? On my PC I simply paused the video and hit something that said snapshot and it was done.
I am struggling a little bit with IMOVIES as I have never had APPLE before. Like it, but am new to it.

I think you may be confused as to your terminology.
iMovie is an app that edits video.
I am guessing you are talking about just playing a video in Quicktime?
To do a screen grab on a Mac press Command+Shift+3
This will save the image to the desktop.
BTW you are posting in the iMovie iOS forum.
This forum is for editing video on an iPad or iPhone.
I will get your post moved to a better forum.

  • Por quality still pictures in Imovie

I am having this problem I hope someone out there can help!!!!!
I am making a movie only using still pictures (in imovie) and the result is that the pictures are not as clear as they are in iphoto.
Is there a way to improve the quality of the still pictures in imovie to at least match the qualiity of the originals?

    Hi m
The quality of photos are a multi layered question:
    a. The quality is severly lower on a TV-set than any computer monitor.
To be able to judge the final quality I have connected my Camera FireWire
end to the Mac and the analog end to a SCART adapter and a TV-set.
Now I can see what the result really will be on the TV.
(625 horisontal lines in PAL is maximum, 480 or 520 I think in NTSC)
(on a screen You can have say 854 x 1280 or even more)
    b. The Mac showes different qualities on the screen depending on Your
choise and the Mac's capasity. (see iMovie prefs)
    c. When rendering Your movie from iMovie to iDVD - severe damage will
occure if You use the Share/Export to iDVD from within iMovie and accepts
the question RENDER?. I don't do it like that. I close iMovie and drop the
project icon (with a star on it) into an open iDVD theme window.
    The result is better.

  • Moving pictures in iMovie slideshow

I have started a slideshow project in iMovie, but now that I have the pictures in iMovie, I am finding them much harder to put in order than in iPhoto. Would it be better to start over by putting them in order in iPhoto? And if I do that, will they be in the same order when I transfer them to iMovie?

You can put them in order in an iPhoto Album. Then in the Photo Browser in iMovie, you can drag the icon for the album into your movie all at once, and the photos should stay in order.
You can also drag an iPhoto Event into your movie, but the photos will not be in order.

  • Adding pictures in imovie doesn't work

    Hi there,
I am trying to add some pictures in iMovie '11. Up to now everything went great, but all of a sudden, I can't add any pictures anymore. All it does now, is add the last pictures in stead of the picture I swiped into my project. Can someone please help me with this project? It's pretty urgent.
    Thanks a lot peepz.

Please help!!! It's a brand new iMac for work and we basically bought it to use the iMovie...can't believe it!
Please read the warranty paperwork that came w/your computer.
You have 14 days to return the computer w/no questions asked.
You have 90 days of FREE phone tech support on top of your standard 1 year warranty unless you also purchased AppleCare which gives you an additional 2 years of coverage plus FREE phone support.
Strongly suggest that you take FULL advantage of the above before it runs out.  Let Apple deal w/the problems & your concerns. It's what you paid them to do.

How do I correct blurry pictures in iMovie? They are clear when I pause the video but blurry when playing the video.

Try sharing and see if the effect is still present when you play the shared movie.  It can happen when playing within iMovie if there are insufficient resources to play a full resolution.

  • How do I do picture-in-picture in iMovie version 10.0.1

I have read various things like "drag the clip on top of another clip and a pop up will appear with picture-in-picture" and "it's in the adjust tab in the top corner."
Can someone please tell me how to do picture in picture in this new version of iMovie? I'm trying to do four boxes in the screen.

Do you mean you want a clip to have 4 simultaneous picture in pictures?  iMovie 10 only lets you have one at any one time (same as iMovie 9).
You drag the still or clip that you want as the picture in picture from the  event to the timeline and place above where you want it to appear. A "+" sign will appear and it will stick there.  Click on it to select, click on Adjust and above the leftmost menu above the viewer window will show "Cutaway" (the default option).  Click on this and you will see "Picture in picture" as the lowermost option.   You can size and position it in the viewer window.
