Postfix/smtp[8437] Operation timed out can't send mail to 1 address

server 10.4.5 running mail, filesharing and website.
The mail server has been up for months working fawlessly. We have one address (domain) where we can't send mail, and users at that address can't send us mail.
All other mail functions on both ends seem to be functioning fine.
They seem to be running exchange as a mail server, but i don't have other details from their side. DNS/MX records all look like you would expect.
This has me stumped.
i turned debug level loging on and got the following smtp message written to the log when i tried to mail to an address at that domain.
Feb 23 20:45:10 fileserver postfix/smtp[8437]: 775401AFD61: to=<[email protected]>, relay=none, delay=31, status=deferred (connect to anhc-mail.anhc.org[24.237.2.213]: Operation timed out)

Yes, good luck to them.
relay=none
doesn't look so good.
Of course, a successful outgoing message should look something more like:
Apr 8 11:41:05 server postfix/smtp[2300]: F1D4D3B8A27: to=<[email protected]>, relay=mail.someobfuscatedserver.com[6x.20x.148.1x6], delay=5, status=sent (250 2.0.0 k38FYfDS023848 Message accepted for delivery)
I take it you can send to any/all other mail addresses (servers) ?
Here's a thought:
Some time ago, I had to edit the helo_checks config of postfix, for a windows mailserver because their AntiVirus was horribly mangling their outgoing mail, helo-ing as <fix-your-dns>.local
Point being that .local anything is not a viable tld for anything in the public realm, and certainly won't work with the rest of the world in terms of DNS.
That might be the work of Norton's break-it-for-you addon for Windows Exchange mailservers, not sure.
Please post the output of:
postconf -n
on your server,
and the mail.log file content when they try to send you an email (confirm via telephone and watch for it).

  • Can't Send Mail To Outside Addresses In Mail Applications

I am currently running mac os x server 10.4 and using the mail server. I started out using WebMail. It worked fine, I could send and receive to and from anyone. Now hat i have multiple addresses it is easier to use a client like mail.app or mozilla thunderbird. I can send and receive mail to and from addresses hosted by my server fine. I can only receive mail from outside addresses i cannot send mail to them. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this?

Without knowing more about your configuration it's hard to say.
Most likely your client computer is not in the allowed networks (while webmail running of your server was). But that is a guess.
If you need more info, please post the unmodifed output of postconf -n and some log snippets.

  • Can't send Mail with AOL address-out of ideas

    hello,
I can recieve mail just fine. It's only when I try to send it. I've tried changing the outgoing server to smtp.aol.com and 4.78.166.10.
changed the ports from 25 to 587 to 1024.
I appreciate your help. thanks in advance.

    powermac g4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

My girlfriend and I are RoadRunner customers and RR allows using an SMTP server outside of their network as long as the SMTP server is authenticated.
I set up my girlfriend's AOL account in Tiger Mail (and the only email account she uses) on my old TiBook that I loaned her until she purchases her own Mac and she sends mail with her AOL account with no problems.
The AOL SMTP server settings are as follows:
    Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.aol.com
    Server Port: 587
Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL): Off or not selected.
    Authentication Type: Password
User Name: Your AOL screen name or the portion of your AOL email address in front of the @ sign only.
Password: The password for this screen name/email account - the same used for checking the account for new mail.
If your settings are the same, try deleting and recreating the account in Mail.
If this doesn't work and it should since it works for my girlfriend, you can select/use the RR SMTP server to send mail with your AOL account which is invisible to all recipients.

  • Can't send mail to specific address

I am having problems sending mail to my brother from my ibook. When I send it from .mac it is fine but when I send it from the Mail application (postage stamp) it appears in my sent items as normal but never arrives with my brother. This is the only address (that I know of) that is affected by this. Any ideas ?

Webmail access does not use an SMTP server as does an email client such as the Mail.app.
Not too long ago, Microsoft's incoming mail server for Hotmail accounts was capturing messages sent by the Mail.app under Tiger. The received messages were not marked as junk by Hotmail's incoming mail server and were not delivered to the recipient with no bounced back error message or a notification of any kind to the sender or recipient.
Microsoft quietly acknowledged this problem (programming errors at the incoming mail server) which was eventually resolved.
Long story short, if you are using .Mac's authenticated SMTP server to send messages with your .Mac account via the Mail application, the recipient's incoming mail server may be flagging any messages sent by .Mac's SMTP server as junk/spam. I would ask your brother to contact his ISP or email account provider for his email account to inquire if his email account provider has blacklisted either the .Mac SMTP server or a range of computer IP addresses for which you may fall under.

    127-131-155-85:~ jose$

It sounds like you have more than one issue.
First.. let's just look at sending mail to outside addresses....
You have relayhost setup with an improper setting. relayhost should either be blank, if you want your server to make delivery- or it should contain the host name of your ISPs smtp server (something like smtp.isp.com). You currently have an email address in this field, that won't work.
The next issue is not real clear to me. You may need to clarify.
You say that the recipient sees "[email protected]" as the return address? The return address is set in the mail client. If you are using a mail program (Mail.app, Entourage, etc), then make sure your email address is set properly. If you are sending from WebMail, then let me know and I'll send directions to fix it.
    Please provide additional information.
Specifically, try to isolate what appears to be two separate issues
    1. Can not send mail to outside addresses
    2. Mail sent to internal addresses is successful, but shows wrong return address
    Is that correct?

  • SQL Azure - Intermittent The wait operation timed out

I have a website engine which runs a few hundred "white label" sites. It's hosted on Azure with a SQL Azure Business database. Generally everything is fine - it all works and runs at a good speed.
However, throughout the day I get maybe 40 or 50 of the error:
System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: The wait operation timed out
Please don't refer me to the connectivity blog at http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sqlazure/archive/2010/03/22/9982979.aspx as this seems to refer to problems where you just can't connect. My problem is that it's fine most of the time, but I still get these
    intermittently.
This is sometimes on the main database, but we're also using a database for sessions and this gets the errors too. Both databases are on the same server.
    I also get errors like:
An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host
    and:
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: The service has encountered an error processing your request. Please try again. Error code 40143. A severe error occurred on the current command. The results, if any, should be discarded.
and, when evil bots are hammering the site:
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Resource ID : 1. The request limit for the database is 180 and has been reached. See 'http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=267637' for assistance.
Each website can potentially have a Google footprint of around 10,000 pages. The result it that bots are hitting the sites regularly, indexing lots of pages for hundreds of sites. I also have some worker roles doing data work. The database is clearly busy!
I am hoping to add 2 or 3 times the number of sites that I currently have to the "engine".
I am looking at efficiency where possible, but the sites are clearly under a fair load from bots and visitors.
My question is, will one of the upgrades from Business to S2, P1, P2 or P3 resolve these problems? The financial cost of these database instances stagger greatly so I wouldn't want to update and find I'm left with the same problems but am paying many times
    more each month.
    Thank you in advance.

    Hello,
For Web/Business edition database, the maximum limit of concurrent requests is 180. Beyond this limit, you will receive error.
The Max woker threads for Standard(S2) is 100, you should upgrade your database to Permium tier.
The concurrent requests limit of premium database varies depending on the reservation size of a premium database. For example, for P1, the max worker threads is 200.

  • TNS:Operation Timed Out error while trying to invoke BPEL Process from sql

    Hi,
I am trying to invoke a BPEL Process from PL/sql code. When i try to invoke the process, I am getting the following error message
    ORA-29273 HTTP Request Failed
    ORA:06512: at SYS.UTH_HTTP at line 1029
    ORA:12535: TNS:Operation Timed Out
    ORA:06512: at line 18
I have the SOA suite installed on my local machine...and the BPEL process that i am trying to invoke is deployed their.
Any idea what could be wrong..following is the code piece
    soap_request:='<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <soap:Envelope xmlns:soap="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/">
    <soap:Header/>

    dbms_output.put_line('soap_request: '||soap_request);

                   ,'POST'
                                  ,'HTTP/1.1');
    dbms_output.put_line('after Begin Request' );
    utl_http.set_header(http_req, 'Content-Type', 'text/xml') ;
    Please advise

you are right the file adapter doesnt invoke any bpel
process, instead it is polling the file from
directory location? If it is polling for new files, shouldn't it create a new instance of the BPEL process automatically the moment it finds a new file? In other words, should a new file trigger an instance of the BPEL process rather than being started from PL/SQL?
Can this file adapter not be invoked as bpel process
in that case? The file adapter is part of a BPEL process. The BPEL process can be invoked from e.g. PL/SQL.
In this case this file adapeter return to an RECEIVE
activity...I think this receive cannot be invoked as
a BPEL process rite? Can you explain what you mean with this?
Also , will all synchronous request return "TIMEOUT"
error, if tried to invoke from pl/sql?Only if the synchronous process instance takes more time to complete (and thus to return) than the value specified for a time-out to occur. If the instance completes in for example 10 ms and the time-out time is specified as 30 seconds, no time-out will occur.

  • ORA-12535: TNS:operation timed out on other pc

After installing the XE edition on a server, I can connect fine on the server itsself. But when I try to connect from a client machine, I get ORA-12535: TNS:operation timed out.
My tnsnames on the client holds this string for the XE db:
    MyDB.10gXE =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = MYSERVER)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = XE)
    any ideas???

    Rather than
    MyDB.10gXE =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = MYSERVER)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = XE)
why not go with the bulk standard tnsnames entry as follows:-
    XE =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = MYSERVER)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = XE)
I don't think the qualified MyDB.10gXE name is adding any value and may well confuse things.
Although setting it for my environment does work

  • ORA-12535: TNS:operation timed out on a win2000 Oracle instance

    Hi,
    i have a Oracle 8.1.5 instance on a WIN2000 PC.
I can connect me to this database with sqlplus
as long i stay on the PC (means i started the sqlplus
    on the same machine).
When i try to connect from an other (unix-)system
i get after a while (ca. 90 sec.) the error:
    ORA-12535: TNS:operation timed out
tnsping works fine (answer comes back in one second)
There are no firewalls or other "strange" things between
the database and the failing client (on an other PC,
also win2000, Oracle 8.1.5 everything works fine).
Below you see the log with debug of the listener.
I have also a trace on level SUPPORT but this is more
than 1000 lines for just 1 or 2 TNSPINGs and one SQLPLUS
connect. Due to this volume i decided not to attach it to
    this initial mail.
Does any one have some advice or experiences ?
    Please advice.
    Best regards,

Yes, the XP firewall is running. During the Oracle instalation it poped up twice, but I selected 'Unblock'. I can't turn it off because it is running using the domain settings, but I can add exceptions (programs or ports). Port 1521, tnsping or sqlplus are not blocked and there is an option 'Display a notification when Windows Firewall blocks a program' witch is checked.

  • "TNS-12535: TNS:operation timed out" error after listener restart

    I have two related questions:
    Scenario 1:
    1. I have two remote Windows machines with database on each. One is Win 2003 Server (machine A) and another one is Win XP (machine B)
    2. I can ping from A to B.
    3. I can ping from B to A.
    4. I can tnsping from A to B.
    5. I CAN'T tnsping from B to A.
    6. Windows Firewall on both machines are off.
What could be possible reason for point# 5?
    Scenario 2:
    Now, the second part:
    1. I had an unwanted entry in tnsnames.ora on B which I removed.
    2. Then I restarted the listener on B. Actually, I wanted to restart the one on A to check if that resolves issue mentioned in point# 5 above.
    3. I tried tnsping from A to B but suprisingly it is also giving "operation timed out" error now. So now tnsping not working from either sides.
I didn't make any changes in listener.ora on B, just stopped it and started again. Only change made was removing unwanted entry in tnsnames.ora on B.
Why does that affected database connectivity from A to B which was working fine previously?
If any extra information needed please let me know, and thanks in advance for your answers.
    - Ramesh

listener.ora on B (Win XP) - This was working before listener restart, I mean, I was able to connect to DB on B from A.

  • TNS-12535 TNS:operation timed out - Win 7 - WAN

    Hi!
    Database Version: Oracle 11.2.0.2
    Server OS: Linux 64bit
Database server "A" at different location (connecting through a 10 MBPS link - latency 15 ms).
    I can ping to server.
When i connect to server "A" from client on Windows 7 I got TNS-12535 error (All Win 7 clients).
    Firewall on client is down.
When i connect to server"A" from client on Win XP or Win 2003 server is OK.
Both TNSNAMES.ora and SQLNET.ora are the same on each client.
    tnsnames.ora
    db11 =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 10.10.0.10)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVICE_NAME = db11)
From all clients I can connect to local database server "B" without problem.
Laptop with Win 7 carried to location "A" can connect to server "A".
I've tried Oracle clients from 10.2 to 11.2 and in each case 'tnsping db11' give TNS-12535 error.

You are NOT going to like this answer, but all is symptomatic of Firewall between client & server.

// Turn on tracing to gather more information. When you get desperate, you'll need to start packet sniffing using Ethereal or Wireshark.

I am starting to play with Oracle DB recnetly..
today I have TNS connection failed issue.
When I tried to use ODBC to connect Oracle XE DB, I got ORA-12535: TNS:operation timed out.
    Here is basic info:
    OS:Vista SP1
Oracle Version:Oracle Database 10g Express Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0
I can connect Oracle DB by http://localhost:8080/apex and sqlpus.
and check - telnet ellen.test.net 1521, it is working.
I have no idea why my TNS connection got timeout issue.
Did someone encounter the same issue before?

Is it related?I can not say it is related with 100% certainty.
You can conclude I had a REALLY lucky guess or there is high correlation between VM & having TNS-12535 error.
It is your system & you are free to (ab)use it any way you choose to do so.
We both know SQL*Net can & does work as advertised, but requires a properly configured OS & Network underneath it.
