Posting an error output

Hi!
I have been following this forum for quite some type. I am also getting some error message while working. I just want to know how to capture this error message in a file for posting. I don't want to retype the error message in a file again. I am working on win'98.
Umesh

Hello Bakrudeen!
It didn't work for me. I may clarify that my platform is Win'98/jdk 1.3 (now jdk 1.4 beta). The error message now coming are:
for first command:
-Invalid flag -Xstdout.....
for second command:
-Invalid argument 2
I tried to change -Xstdout by verbose command, but things are still the same.
Everytime an empty errors.txt file is created, but the errors are not captured.
It used to so easy to redirect or pipe in the good old DOS days!!
Can you help further?
Umesh

I read that this line in my case
    [ 1.115441] ACPI Warning: SystemIO range 0x000000000000F000-0x000000000000F01F conflicts with OpRegion 0x000000000000F000-0x000000000000F00F (\_SB_.PCI0.SBUS.SMBI) (20150204/utaddress-254)
    is a bug and unfixable.
What does that mean and why is it "unfixable"? Is that some hardware that is not compatible with Arch at all?

  • Post complete logs/output/versions/error messages

When you have an issue, post the ENTIRE output or log. Information is crucial to being able to solve any problem. I've seen threads go for pages and all someone needed to do was ask for a log file or simple command output.
    Don't do this
    It doesnt work!!!
That is not output, that says absolutely nothing. It's probably the most useless thing you could post.
It said something about this, I think the problem is this
That's not an exact error message, that's an intepretation of an error message. It's like playing chinese whispers.
    Responding
When someone posts something like the above, don't respond with a blind guess. Usually it'll just confuse the situation, instead just politely request more details. Don't post some solution that worked for you for something vaguely similar 2 years ago unless you are confident it is the same issue.
    Sources of information
Full output of any command involved
Log files (have a look in /var/log)
    Relevant configuration files
    Drivers involved
    Versions of packages involved
Kernel: dmesg. For a boot problem, at least the last 10 lines displayed, preferably more
Networking: Exact output of commands involved, and any configuration files
Xorg: /var/log/Xorg.0.log, and prior logs if you have overwritten the problematic one
If a recent -Syu broke it, have a look through your pacman log and see what packages were upgraded.
    Where to put the information?
In the post is fine or if it's very long - pastebins are great, particularly for config files. However make sure it's a long term paste so that it doesnt expire within a day.
A useful tool for pastebins, especially if you can't copy paste is community/nopaste. Just pipe any output through nopaste and you'll get a link. eg
    iphitus@korolev:~$ dmesg|nopaste

To be fair, it took some time before I myself became accustomed to the logs. It is just like any other documentation. You need practice to make it really useful.
That said, don't take it for granted that newbies will be aware of what is needed. It takes patience to provide help (rather often, unfortunately). And to me it suffices if I see that somebody wants to learn (and does so).
Bernarcher hints at something else here: it works both ways.  It is fine enough having a sticky at the top of the newbie board to explain the basic locations of various outputs, but the responsibility of seasoned archers doesn't end there.  Experienced users ought to assume the role of teachers when entering forum discussion with beginners, and at the very least should be aware of the gap in knowledge.  Fortunately Arch newbies can boast more familiarity and objectivity than say Ubuntu newbies but they still require some preliminary (and sometimes background) information on where and what to implement.
"Post output of /var/program" or "Post /var/program.log" are better instructions than "Post output of program"

java.io.FileNotFoundException: /apps/oracle/DEV/inst/apps/DEV_hlt439erplap001/logs/appl/conc/out/o559655.out (No such file or directory)Most probably this file is not created (since no changes have been done recently, so definitely it is not a permission issue), and if there are any log files generate at the client side it should help in investigating the issue.

  • Error: "output could not be issued" while seeing a print preview in va03

    Dear All
In a T.code VA03 , if i have display a print pre-view for a particular order for an output type BAOA . Am getting an error "output could not be issued" . please give me the solution for this

    Hi,
First check in PATH: - SPRO > Sales and Distribution > Basic Functions > Output Control > Output Determination > Output Determination Using the Condition Technique > Maintain Output Determination for Sales Documents > Maintain Output Types - Here for O/P Type BAOA, check whether FORM Routine "ENTRY" has been asisgned under "Processing Routine" option.
If not resolved then secondly, Check whether any Requirement (Routine) has been assigned to the Output Type BAOA in the Output Determination Procedure.
To check the same, go to PATH: - SPRO > Sales and Distribution > Basic Functions > Output Control > Output Determination > Output Determination Using the Condition Technique > Maintain Output Determination for Sales Documents > Maintain Output Determination Procedure - Here check for the Procedure assigned to your Sales Area and Sales Doc Type (for e.g. V10000). If any requirement is there then make it blank and then try printing the order by deleteting and adding new o/p record.
If not resloved then Ask ABAPer to debug it.

  • While excise posting, an error is coming "Balance in Transaction  Currency"

    Dear all
While capital excise posting, an error is coming "Balance in Transaction  Currency" for the capital goods posting.
During the excise duty posting J1IEX our clint done some manuvall entry for excise duties so
at the time its 0.01 diffrence is coming in balance thats why we are not able to post the document.
so please can any one give the solution for this
    regards
    pramod

    hi
Check Excsie duties in "Excise Duty" Tab at Item Details level.
Kindly note that all the duties (BED, ECS and SECess) in case of RG23C Part II posting must be in EVEN numbers.
For e.g. Check whether SECess is 10.63 (ODD No) then make it either 11.00 or 10.64 or 10.62 i.e. EVEN No otherwise during Part II posting it will always show balance of 0.01
Check how much piase is the difference. Then you can decide how many values to be rounded off.
To avoid this type of problem better to ensure all amounts ( BED, Ecess and Hr Ecess) are in Even figures.
    hope it clears
    regards

  • [SOLVED] Disabling Error Output in a Makefile

To install an application called Yellowcot, typically I have used a Makefile with these lines,
    install -m 755 yellowcot /usr/bin
    rm -r /usr/share/yellowcot > /dev/null 2>&1
    mkdir /usr/share/yellowcot
    cp yellowcot.svg /usr/share/yellowcot/.
    cp yellowcot.desktop /usr/share/applications/.
The "rm -r" line removes an old installation of the application, if possible. If it's not possible, it's supposed to suppress the error. However, I just tried installing the application on a new Arch setup and got this error,
    [root@nikolai yellowcot-1.1.9]# make install
    install -m 755 yellowcot /usr/bin
    rm -r /usr/share/yellowcot > /dev/null 2>&1
    make: *** [install] Error 1
When I took out the "rm -r" line, I didn't have a problem. So my question is, how can I disable error output in a Makefile? Piping it to /dev/null isn't working. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!
    Last edited by tony5429 (2010-02-27 18:18:54)

make is probably checking the return codes of the commands rather than seeing if anything goes to stderr. you could probably just do
    if test -d /usr/share/yellowcot; then
    rm -r /usr/share/yellowcot &>/dev/null
    fi
might not work though, I usually use automake so I don't know what I am doing

  • LSMW  IDoc error : APPLICATION DOCUMENT NOT POSTED with error 51

During LSMW matmas04 uploading i m getting error :APPLICATION DOCUMENT NOT POSTED with error 51
Can some one tell why ots coming so.

to check errors check We05 or we02 they are same
in general i think that most of problem is relate to Dates if that your case check that you converted dates to internal format using conversion step i advice use like this function
    CALL FUNCTION 'CONVERT_DATE_TO_INTERNAL'
    EXPORTING
    DATE_EXTERNAL = ZHEADER-BEDAT
    IMPORTING
    DATE_INTERNAL = MBEPOH-BEDAT.

  • Error output to 'write to spreadsheet'

    Hi
I dont know, whether someone talked about this earlier.

    I want this,
    Thanks

    > that would make people think it works with Excel "spreadsheets".
actually, tab-delimited text files work fine with excel (of course there are some exceptions )
I would rather have this VI removed from the palettes and marked it as deprecated since it does not conform to LV style-guides (no error in/out) any more. I also guess that the pop-up dialog might block other LV threads which will be a serious issue if you have some data logging running. (I can find/build/provide several nice examples where a pop-up VI set to dialog appearance - and also user interaction on GUI elements - can block other loops running in LV)
Thus, I never use the pre-programmed write/read spreadsheet VIs, I always write my own version - usually takes 2-3 LV primitives + a few constants ...
    just my 2 cents

I try to redirect the error output in this way:

SQL*Plus writes it's output through stdout. Even ORA-XXXX errormessages are written through stdout. The stderr channel is only used if SQL*Plus is suffering an error and terminates abnormaly so you won't get ORA-XXX errormessages into your error file with 2>>.
I think that's not the answer you wanted to hear but I hope that it could be of any help to you.
    Yours sincerely

  • Cannot post now errors?

I'm getting Cannot Post Now errors trying to post a long post in the Premiere Pro forum. But I get the same error posting 1 short paragraph in the testing forum?

As Adobe-Admin points out, there are anti-spam efforts in force. Certain words trigger the filters. IIRC, mine was "s-t-r-e-a-m-i-n-g," but was in a post to the Premiere Pro, video-editing forum.  Filters are just that, and few allow full contextural AI (not Adobe Illustrator here).
Yeah, I suspect it might be filters at first, but given that I'd never run into them before, and cutting my post in half didn't seem to help for either half...of course it was because there were multiple hits.
I sort of wonder if there's forum-specific filtering going on, or if the global filter was scrod -- I guess since it hit the testing filter it's a global filter problem. I'm sure I must use the word "choice" all the time :-)...
Speaking for only one - you are forgiven.
Thanks. I had some strange urge, I guess, to get that post off, before I had to abandon the desktop computer I was sitting in front of. I suppose I could have just saved the post somewhere else...
