Hi,
I know that similar question was posted here before but I want to know the difference if someone sends me something via post (lets say MBP or mac mini). Can you avoid paying extra charge and have the benefit of dollar/pound exchange rate or you have to pay that when you receive the package in UK? Also, how much would that be? Same price as Apple has on the UK store web site, less/more? I just want to know if its worth the hassle to ask my friend in US to send me one with student discount as she has the big discount (14% not the usual 8%). Anyone knows or tried it before?

Firstly the Apple Store in the US will not despatch your goods to a non-US address. You will have to use MacMall or get a friend to send for you.
Once the goods arrive in the UK, they are subject to VAT currently at 17.5 % of the INVOICE price (thats the Commercial Invoice or Pro Forma Invoice). So if the item is US$1000 then you will be liable to 17.5% of that. Sounds good ? Sure BUT remember that all non UK keyboards do not include a pound key - if thats not an issue, then great !!
In answer to your questions: just calculate the price, add on the shipping charges, then the VAT and voila you should be able to make your own conclusions.
Typically to ship to UK from US via FedEx a laptop computer - you should be allowing $200 - 250 pricewise.
A lot of US stores wont accept non-US credit cards for online orders. You can thank the scammers for that ! However, I know CompUSA and Datavision in New York accept Amex provided you fax a scanned image of the credit card and your passport. Again - check the sites and look up international orders under the help.

When I press view account on the cellular data area in settings, it asks for login, which I do not have, so I press new customer And it asks me to sign up on the iPad, which I am trying to do, and I also tried to sign up via safari using isetup.o2.co.uk/newuser and still says the same. I got the carrier settings from iTunes etc so I really don't know what to do!!!! Oh and by the way, I brought my iPad from USA, does that make any difference?

The fact that you got your iPad from the US shouldn't matter at all. I'm on O2 and had no such difficulties signing up although my iPad was purchased here. I signed up back at the launch of the iPad here in the UK so I don't remember the procedure too well.
I did have issues using the wi-fi through my 3G account on O2 on both my iPhone and iPad in Starbucks recently and called their customer service and they were very helpful and got it sorted for me. I would suggest you call them and I'm sure they will be able to help you sort it out.
I will take a look at my account on my iPad and if I'm able to shed any light on your issue then I will post it here. From what I remember though it was pretty straight forward signing up and I was up and running in a matter of a few minutes.

Please keep in mind that Aperture is not an enhanced iPhoto, it is a different application with a different philosophy and a different intended audience. If you approach it with that in mind you will have a lot less frustration as you learn Aperture.
Aperture adds a layer of complexity that is not needed by many. iPhoto is a very powerful application and fits the needs of many amateur photographers.
As for your original issue, as I said I am surprised that iPhoto allows you do switch countries like that and am not surprised that Aperture doesn't. If this is something you really need to do working in Aperture but using iPhoto to order the prints is a good work around and will not be all that difficult to do once you get the hang of it.
As for your new question, the books in iPhoto and Aperture are different enough that the code that created the book in iPhoto wouldn't work in Aperture. What happens when you import an iPhoto library into Aperture is that the images in the book are combined into an album in Aperture with the same name as the iPhoto book. You will need to re-create the book in Aperture uaing the images in this album.

There are some things to know about buying things in the US. The prices do not include sales taxes. There is no standard federal sales tax, it differs from state to state and large city to large city and can be between 6 to 10+%.
If you buy from Apple you will always pay sales tax. If you find an online 3rd party Apple reseller, you may pay as much as US$20 to 30 less for the product, but many also do not charge sales tax and if you buy enough, offer free shipping within the US. I have friends in Dallas, so I buy things in the US there. For example, if I had purchased my Mac mini from an Apple Store in Dallas it would have been US$499 plus US$41.00 sales tax (8.25%). (It would have been the same cost from Apple Online, but sometimes they charge for shipping, sometimes they do not.) However, I ordered it from Other World Computing for US$479.00 with no sales tax and free shipping to Dallas. So I saved US$61.00.
However, as mentioned, shipping to NZ and paying customs' duty fees may not save you anything over buying it there.

Install recovery that is not available in Egypt to laptop model bought from USA

In the beginning, I seek help from computer technician to create partitions for windows 7 so he formats the hard drive. This is the beginning of the problem. After several months the windows 7 became unresponsive and very slow, so I seek help from the same person. He removed the windows 7 and tried to install another one but all his attempts failed. Since that time my laptop didn't work.
I used HP website to know the cause of this problem. I knew that there is recovery manager and I should have to make refresh or reinstall this recovery but I do not know that before. I hardly reached to HP technical support in Middle East. They guide me to HP service centers in Egypt but all these centers very stupid and helpful because they said that the recovery of this model unavailable with them because my laptop model not available in Middle East. When I come back to HP technical support in Middle East, they said to me to come back to service centers again as they can make contacts with HP technical support in USA and get the recovery of this model but they refused. Accordingly HP technical support in Middle East solve this problem by advice me to return my laptop to USA.
My laptop did not work for 4 months because of mainly my mistake and stupidity and lack of cooperation of HP technical support in Middle East and HP service centers in Egypt.
Please help me as soon as possible.

A GSM 3G iPad purchased in the US will not be locked to any carrier, so it will work anywhere. Make sure you don't inadvertently get the Verizon version which will work only with Verizon.

All the major international couriers UK arms and even the Post Office will automatically process and invoice you for any duty (and VAT) that would be due on the item, they will also typically charge you a £10 (approximately) admin fee. Anyone sending an item internationally has to put a customs declaration label on the outside to declare the value and type of item, this allows the destination courier/country to be able to determine the right amounts to charge.
If you visited the US and purchased the item yourself and brought it back in your luggage you still have to pay the duty and VAT by going through the items to declare lane at the airport. Failure to do so may result in you being stopped and fined. It can actually on occasion be cheaper to fly to sat New York and buy an item and bring it back and still pay duty/VAT when the UK price is outrageously marked up. For example often Adobe software is over 90% more expensive in the UK.
Note: Adobe price comparisons were done on the Adobe US and Adobe UK webstores and excluded shipping and sales tax on both sites making it a fair comparison. Adobe's lies feeble excuses were to blame higher office costs, high salaries, higher taxes, currency fluctuations, all of which were untrue. Adobe US headquarters are in San Jose and costs there are comparible to London, and Adobe in the UK are based in Edinburgh which is far cheaper. Obviously in the case of the US vs UK there are no language translation costs.
With regards to purely electronic transactions like ebooks, and software, many websites will either refuse purchases from non US credit cards (e.g. iTunes, iBook Store, etc.) or will automatically charge VAT based on the destination address. Some smaller resellers will not refuse sales or charge VAT if your lucky. Obviously electronic transactions like this are extremely unlikely to be spotted by HM Customs & Excise.

iPhones purchased from the online Apple Store in Australia will be unlocked. To the best of my knowledge, unlocked iPhone are not available from the physical Apple Stores at this time, though you can call the Apple Store in Melbourne and inquire.
Note that the warranty on iPhones is not international, so if you purchase an iPhone in Australia and it needs service, you would have to ship the iPhone to someone in Australia to take or send to Apple for service and then ship it back to you.

Generally objects collected under $TMP package cannot be transported.
You need to assign objects to a package which can be transported. There are options to change the package.
1. Select the object, go to the change mode. Under Extras, select object directory entry. New screen will appear, there you can change the package.
or
2. Go to transport connect, select the object and right click and select change package(last option). You can also change the package here.

well actually I have a problem, I have a Visa card and as I recieved a gift card from my friend from USA, aftrer redeeming the card and spend it through app strore, now, I have 0.98$ and I can't spend for other apps since there is not any app which is exactly 0.98$ . So I've tried several times to get back to my visa card to go to appstore and buy my favorate apps, but the matter is that my visa is from Canada and I recieved a notice in which untill I didn't spenc the 0.98$, I'm not able to change my location and this really is a big problem for me. Would you please fix the problem that I can change my apple ID location to use my visa card?
Moreover I have to say that as I go to a trip several times a year, I prefere to use giftcards insted of my visacard specially when I'm not in canada, and most goftcards sold in these countries are from US. So It would be a big problem that I always should email apple support inorder to do sth to allow me to change my location scince I would like to have my visa also.

Make sure you buy the WiFi+3G AT&T (3G) model.
You won't be able to order it online unless you have a US credit card tied to a US address and a US shipping address, so I am assuming you are coming here to purchase it. If so, call ahead before you go buy it to make sure they have one in stock.

Older post from apple support community delivered on gmail show in Mail App when new notification received

Hi all,
I am using Mail as a client to my Gmail account.
I am registered with such account to receive notification about new posts from Apple Support Communities on which I took part.
However when I receive a new mail notifications, I get a huge list of post, it basically seems the whole conversation.
Even if the grouping done by Mail App shows 1 message only, I can see lot of posts attached to the mail.
Apparently by deleting the group or the very latest mail, it deletes the whole conversation, but everytime a new mail arrives, the conversation shows again.
By doing a search for sender and subject on notification arrival, only one mail shows from the results.
When deleting the mail, the whole conversation gone from Mail App, did the search again with same criteria, and got 0 result.
Why this behavior ? Am I missing something ?

*I figured it out!*
Simple fix, here is what you do - open Mail v4.2 > Preferences
Select your Gmail account with this weird problem (I say select, cause in my situation I have multiple Gmail account setup but was having trouble with 1).
Then goto > Advanced tab
and then just type "/" (forward slash) - and then wait for a minute, it should fix it and allow to receive all the ghosts messages again - which apparently were visible under my online (web based) gmail.com's account also on my iPhone. You might see double messages, don't freak out like I did - Quit Mail v4.2 and restart that should go away as well, like in my case. Strange? Definitely
