Posting iweb site to ftp...help

I created a web page for a charity but when I upload it to the ftp it goes through the process of uploading but the page shows at 404 forbidden. What can cause that?
I did not change any settings or do anything different from other sites I have made and do not understand what could be causing the error.

You need to provide your url for anyone to help at all.

  • Posting iweb sites on a .mac family account...

I have just upgraded my .mac account to a family pack, converting my wifes email only account so she has full .mac goodies. Can we both upload separate iweb sites without overwriting each other? If so how?
    Thanks in advance,
    Lee

This is from the .mac help menu:
You should have separate accounts addresses
Setting up a Family Pack sub-account
If you purchased a Family Pack account, you can set up four sub-accounts. A Family Pack sub-account includes 2.5 gigabytes (GB) of combined email and iDisk storage.
Note: .Mac Family Pack sub-accounts cannot add email-only accounts or upgrade storage.
    To set up a sub-account:
    1. If you're not already logged in to .Mac, go to www.mac.com, and log in.
    2. Click Account in the left column of the .Mac homepage, and then confirm your login.
    3. Click Manage Accounts.
Note: You can manage accounts only if you have a full .Mac membership.
    4. In the Family Pack Sub-accounts section, click the Set Up Account button and follow the onscreen instructions.
If you go to the .mac page and click on the help button upper right you can find other related topic.

  • Smart FTP App for posting iWeb sites?

I currently us Godaddy as my WPP. But as my iWeb website grows bigger with blogs & pics, etc. the "publish to folder" option with iWeb becomes more and more cumbersome. Transmit.app has a nice "sync" function that checks the dates of files, and only updates what needs updating. But each time I make changes in iWeb, and then publish to a folder, all of the files' dates are updated for the whole website, so Transmit.app just sees that the whole website is newer & needs posted, and is unable to determine which files were changed based on date alone.
I can do the updating manually--only uploading the pages I know that I changed, but again, it becomes very cumbersome, not only because of iWeb's naming schemes, but also because iWeb seems to put some image files in non-intuitive folders/places, and I am having trouble making sure all of the changes get uploaded that are needed.
Does any one know of an FTP program that can track actual changed files apart from the dates, and update only what has changed?

Why can't a polished program like Transit.app do this?
In September 2007, the guys at Transmit said this:
"Transmit is in the same boat as Fetch. There is currently no workaround for this, as +Transmit 3+ was only designed to consider dates when synchronizing, not size. +Transmit 4+ will be able to compare sizes."

+"Easy iWeb Publisher"+ significantly cuts down the time it takes to upload changed or updated sites by comparing the files on your computer with those on the web server. Click on the image:
    RBrowser also has Folder Syncronization:
"RBrowser's sync engine will automatically find your changes and publish your new and changed files only to the remote server."
...But perhaps you would have to buy the licensed version to get that feature:
"Absolutely unrestricted operations in all protocols (Local, FTP/SSL/TLS, SFTP-SSH), including Folder Sync."
...you could try the free version first and see if it has that feature.

  • Publishing iWeb sites through FTP

    HELLO!
I really need your precious help. I am an Italian teacher in a primary school. We have been making a website with iWeb and - obvioulsy - our pupils enjoy using iWeb. Now we do have a serious problem, we can't publish it via FTP.
    how can we do?
The thing is we have already bought our web space through Web Hosting and they assured us it is possible to publish sites crearted with iWeb, but we need to put file in a folder called public. html. Now how can we do? We have contacted the custumer care service but they told us they don't know iWeb so they can't help us...
Where do i find the files i need to put into the file called public? and how?
Evrything was much easier when we could publish with mobileme...
    Please help.
    THANKS!
    Andrea

    Hello Andrea.
I have just uploaded 3 websites I made using iWeb and published them to external hosts. It is really very simple.
In iWeb, select your website (Not the Welcome' page or any other but the main title from which all other pages fall below.)
Now in the large central Window where you see "Publishing", select FTP Server from the drop down menu of "publish to".
Below this your site name (can be anything but preferably relevant to your site)
Contact email address (It's not neccessary but can be one you may want to use for your class)
Now we have FTP Server Settings :-
Server address: This must be the name of the domain you have already purchased. Mine was johnburtonglass.com and so this is my server address. (no need to type www )
User name: This must be the username you were given for your host control panel
Password: This was also given to you by your host
Directory/Path: public_html  (type this in as your directory/path)
    Protocol: Select "FTP"
Port: 21 (This is also normal but may be different.)
All these settings can be aquired from your domain host if you need them.
Now click on "Test Connection". All should work ok and a connection should be made.
Now you just click "Publish" on the lower bar on the left. (with green arrow above).
    It really is that simple.
    Good luck. :-)
    Regards
    John

  • Publishing iWeb site with FTP

    My registered domain is www.peuterspeelzaalrisdam.nl/
When I upload with FTP iWeb is adding 'file' to my domain, so www.peuterspeelzaalrisdam.nl/file
So nobody will find the site because of this added 'file'
What can I do to change that???? Anybody solutions?
regards Hans de Lange - the Netherlands

Publish to a folder and upload only the contents of the folder named "file" using a free ftp app like Cyberduck.

  • How can I publist my iWeb site to a Windows Server? (FTP is not an option, neither is a Linux server))

So I need to publish my iWeb site to a Windows server on a secure I can't access directly.  I believe I need to export my iWeb site to a local folder on my Mac, then transfer those files to the computer that has access to the server.
I tried this earlier today with the tech in charge of the system and we had trouble getting the files uploaded.
I don't get any error messages, the new site simply doesn't show up.
Can anyone offer any help here?  I know that iWeb users have had problems uploading to Windows servers, but If you know of specific work-arounds to the problems encountered, please let me know.
Thank you in advance.  Any and all help is appreciated!

What ftp programme are you using to upload the site?
Also, where are the files being placed on the server - if they are not in the root folder on the server then they might not show up - (root folder could be anything from "public_html", "www", or "htdocs".  This differs on all servers).
Also, when you published the site from iWeb to a local folder did you see all the files that iWeb produces - did you see firstly the Site folder, the separate index file?  If you did, did you transfer this folder and file to the computer in question?
When you uploaded the site did you upload the whole site folder?  If so, then you also need to upload the separate index file so that it points into the site folder - this needs to sit outside the site folder itself so that it points to the index file in the site folder.
If you don't want to upload like this, then what you can do is simply upload the contents of the site folder instead of the whole folder itself and place all the contents of the site folder - that being all the html file and the resultant css folders for each page to the server instead.

  • I have just uploaded my iWeb site to a FTP host and most of the site is ok however a lot of the text has gone very strange!  How can i get it to publish the same as I designed it?  Thanks in advance....

Please help!  I have just uploaded my iweb site to a FTP Host and most of the site is ok however a lot of the text has gone wrong!  Many thanks...

Maybe you could let me know which hosting service you are using so that I can add them to my list of those NOT recommended for iWeb users!
I just dealt with one today who claimed the iWeb sites were incompatible and that the first line of code should be deleted from every HTML file before upload to their server.
They didn't even offer the information that it would be a lot easier to modify the .htaccess file never mind offer to do it for a customer.
Nobody should expect to pay for service like this and the answer is to dump them and go to a company that gives you some value and support for your money. If the ones on this page don't meet your requirements for cost and service...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/iWeb/Publish-Website.html
... search this forum for those recommended by other users. There's a long list of them.

  • IWeb Publish to FTP: Double Site Name

My attempt to mount an iWeb site publishing via FTP to my commercial host server on my acquired domain name josephscriven.org works well EXCEPT when it is up on the Internet a redundant duplication creeps into the URL. After clicking on or entering josephscriven.org the website comes up beautifully but the URL is listed as http://josephscriven.org/Home/Home.html.
Changing the "Home" to anything else does not help as then the new name is simply duplicated.
    Any thoughts out there?
    Thanks

I ran into that as well. Even worse, the redirect that iWeb set up to send site visitors to the subdomain that it stored the actual site files in didn't work in some browsers, including Microsoft Internet Explorer, which accounts for roughly 80% of site traffic on most of my sites.
I just bought a Mac, so I set up a simple test site, just to help me get the feel of it. If you have access to your site via FTP. I had to use my PC for this, since I am thus far unfamiliar with any of the FTP programs available for a Mac, but I'm sure they will work well enough once I figure them out.
Anyhow, if you access your site through FTP, you can move your site files and folders down one level, back to the command line for your domain, and everything should work fine, without the silly redirect.
The only glitch I had in this is that the Index.html file that was used for the redirect that iWeb set up capitalized the first letter in the file name, whereas the index.html file used in the site itself was not capitalized. When I first did that, I would get a 404 upon trying to navigate back to the index (home) page of the site using the navigation menu. Changing the site index.html file to Index.html fixed that problem, as you can see in http://www.pinegrovealpacas.net/.

  • Can't see my iweb site. please help

I have just created an iweb site which worked fine and was able to visit using the safari button on the bottom of the iweb page which directed me to http://web.me.com/mmerry/Mikes_Inks/Welcome.html
I have added a domain name ‘mikesinks.com’ with go daddy which worked fine to start with but now when I go to the safari button it directs me to http://web.me.com/mmerry/Mikes_Inks/Welcome.html along with the message Safari can’t open the page “http://www.mikesinks.com/Mikes_Inks/index.html” because Safari can’t find the server “www.mikesinks.com”.
    this also happens in firefox.
    please can someone help.

    Try it without the "
    http://www.mikesinks.com/Mikes_Inks/index.html
Use the shortest URL possible to arrive at your site.
    This will work : http://www.mikesinks.com/Mikes_Inks/
    This will work : http://www.mikesinks.com/
And this link : http://mikesinks.com/ uses URL forwarding.
    Use forwarding to : http://www.mikesinks.com/

  • Need help using Feedburner and Buzzboost in iWeb site

    Hello.
I have embedded a blog feed into my iWeb site using Feedburner's Buzzboost. The feed appears correctly, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get the customizing CSS codes to work.
I've found countless tips on using CSS codes to customize the Buzzboost appearance. I cannot get the feed to react to the codes when I insert them inside of iWeb (in an html snippet) or outside of iWeb (when inserting the codes directly into the CSS file for the page).
I have tried everything I can find in searching this problem. Perhaps it is something very simple that I am simply overlooking.......
thanks for any help in advance.

WordPress does not allow custom code. You have their method using Insert Media.
