Posting iWeb with Godaddy

Hi I have a Godaddy domain and hosting and I have been using Filezilla to upload my files, which for the most part has worked, but there are a few glitches in uploading that I was hoping to get some answers to. For instance, the shading under my banner appears as a bubble line and most slide show buttons are not functioning. I don't know if this is because iWeb widgets dont want to work with godaddy, or if I am uploading them wrong when I am using filezilla. Any help to how to fix these problems is very much appreciated!
Website can be viewed here for reference: Meggierock.com

As long as you purchased a Linux hosting account from GoDaddy, then there is no problem with GoDaddy hosting at all - it is all compatible and will work.
When things don't work, it often means that certain files have not been uploaded, so I would suggest that you download Cyberduck for free from the internet. It another ftp programme that is easy to use and might be better than the one you are using at the moment.

When I opened iweb it opened as a file I deleated. I have a published website with godaddy and would like to update. How can I open the existing iWeb app to the site that is already published?

You cannot retrieve the already published site as iWeb CANNOT open it - it has no import facility.
You need your domain.sites file, which you can find under User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites.  You do not need any kind of account for this because it is your domain.sites file that resides on the hard drive of your Mac anyway.  Find this file and you can alter your website.
Use a spotlight search to try and find it and if this does not work you can download something called Find Any File.  If you really can't find it, then you'll have to start from scratch because iWeb cannot open a site that is already published.

  • IWeb hosting with GoDaddy

After messing with GoDaddy's hosting options a bit, I got my iWeb site hosted with the "www" prefix, but I can't for some reason get my site hosted without that prefix. You have to type"www" before the address every time in order to see the site, otherwise it just shows a parked page.
    See for yourself:
    http://www.usborneartistry.com - should work.
    http://usborneartistry.com - never works.
    Any help?

    Your domainname is usborneartistry.com
    Your subdomain is www.usborneartistry.com
That's the one you use for MMe.
All other (sub)domains point to somewhere else.

  • IWeb with flash widget not posting correctly on Firefox on PC

I created pages on iWeb, with flash widget. It looks great on Safari and Firefox on the mac, terrible on firefox PC. Basically on Firefox PC, the iWeb created site that should be in front of the flash file, gets behind it when the page loads, so the page only shows the flash file.
Can anyone help? I have tried to figure out the HTML and CSS, without success.
Here's a link to a page that's fine on the Mac side, bad on the PC:
    www.franckgoldberg.com/Design/AR_Media.html

Why would it work on the mac, and not on the PC?
The kind folks at Firefox and Flock should know that.
How did you succeed on your second example

  • Suggest alternatives to IWeb and GoDaddy?

Hello - As we are all aware there are limits to IWeb and GoDaddy. I'm a Macer in a PC world (this is changing but slowly). My PC pals have a difficult time viewing my website/blog and I want to upgrade my site so my pictures can load and fonts translate to PC. I do not sell anything it's just a site for friends and family but I would like to upgrade the look, enhance the capability with PC and Google and am willing to spend a bit of cash. I've heard of Dreamscape? Does anyone have other suggestions? I do the complete ease of use of IWeb despite some of the drawbacks. Thank you. Tami
    www.curioustidbits.com is my blog.

    Hi Tamis,
You have asked several questions in your post. I will try to answer each one. I can see from your website that you like the free form style possible with iWeb. I have to caution you that achieving maximum compatibility with all browsers, especially Internet Explorer comes with a price.
There are a limited number of fonts that are considered web safe. A quick search in wiki will give you the list. Using any other fonts will risk problems with certain browsers. If you want to use a special font in a limited way, for example a title, convert it to an image first then place it into iWeb. The price you will pay if you over use this method is a much slower download time for your pages.
iWeb uses a number of features such as shadows and reflections that can cause problems with certain bowsers. I have found that it is best to prep your images to the display size needed and save them as jpegs. The results are quite predictable with this approach.
Choosing an alternative to iWeb will require a change in your approach to web design, a trade off you may not be willing to make. To get a feel for an alternative check out Rapid Weaver. I have used both and they each have their pros and cons. Rapid Weaver will force you into a template design. If you decide on Rapid Weaver there are two plugins that add some of the simplicity of iWeb, Stacks & Blocks. You probably will only need one of these.

  • Uploading iweb to godaddy

    Hey
Ok I wondered if someone could help me please, I'm trying to upload my iweb site to my host godaddy which is also where i got my domain name from I used fetch to upload files and they all apear to be in my file manager on godaddy but whenever i go to my URL www.laurabuckingham.com all i get is
    Not Found
The requested URL /Welcome.html was not found on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
    Apache/1.3.33 Server at www.laurabuckingham.com Port 80
I emailed godaddy and eventually i got somewhere but still didn't work then i got this email yesterday from them saying.....
You would normally have your script and coding put together with the proper file names and paths prior to uploading the site through the file manager. Once you have uploaded the files to the file manager it would not be as easy to update the coding although it is possible. Please note we do not provide assistance with the coding of the site. At this time your files are uploaded but it appears the index.html file is set to redirect to Welcome.html which does not exist.
Does anyone know what i have to do to resolve this issue as I'm not technology minded enough to understand that and all it is doing is frustrating me as it looks like I've wasted money with godaddy
Can please someone help me please?
P.S I'm new to this and think i just posted this as a reply but it is actually a question!

StatCounter is a very good free counter. How to add it to an web page is discussed in Old Toad's Tutorials #12 and 13.
This demo page has an HTML Snippet counter (at the top) and this page has a post publication edit counter. The post publication edit method lets the user determine the font, style, size and color of the text based counter. The snippet based counter must be configured at the StatCounter site and has limited options.

  • IWeb with Google Analytics

I spent all morning setting up Google Analytics. Looked at dozens of posts here with loads of misinformation. iWeb 09 does work with Google Analytics. Here's what worked for me. They key was to make sure my URL ended with a /. That is, it didn't work when I pointed to www.testsite.com but it did with www.testsite.com/
Go to Google Analytics to set up your site and get your code
    (something like this:
    <script type="text/javascript">
    var gaJsHost = (("https:" == document.location.protocol) ? "https://ssl." : "http://www.");
    document.write(unescape("%3Cscript src='" + gaJsHost + "google-analytics.com/ga.js' type='text/javascript'%3E%3C/script%3E"));
    </script>
    <script type="text/javascript">
    try {
    var pageTracker = gat.getTracker("UA-xxxxx-1");
    pageTracker._trackPageview();
    } catch(err) {}</script>
Add an HTML snippet (Show Media, click on Widgets). I dragged the HTML widget to the footer (as you drag, the bottom inch illuminates so you know you're in the footer.) Paste in the code you got from Google. Re-size as desired and then post the same HTML snippet into each page in your web. Just click on each page and paste. It will go to the same place on each page.
Oh, one other odd thing: in the Google Analytics display, the current day is not shown. Click on the date range to choose today and you should see results fairly quickly.

    Hello ruralart,
After saving the automator workflow as a Finder Plugin,
mount you iDisk in the finder (ex. click on the iDisk icon in the left pane of a Finder window),
goto the folder iDisk / Web / Sites , select this folder "sites",
control-click on the folder to run the “Add Google Analytics” workflow.
Note : when you have iDisk Sync = ON, you'll see that the folder "web" is an alias so Automator will not work in this situation. You'll have to turn iDisk Sync OFF.
    Kind regards,

  • IWeb and GoDaddy FTP

Ok so I have an iWeb site already that I use with MobileMe. Now I want to add another site using godaddy ftp. So I follow the instructions that godaddy gives enter my username, password, etc and test the connection. It fails every time. I really do not know why it is not working or what is wrong. Should I call godaddy? or what.
    Thanks,
    Jordan

Firstly, do you have a hosting account set up with Godaddy? If not, then it won't work.
Also, iWeb 09 built ftp is notorious for not being that reliable. I would suggest that you download either Cyberduck or Transmit for free and use either of these to upload your other site.
You also should have been given a username and password when you set up your hosting account with Godaddy - if nothing works then you need to contract them, but try Cyberduck or Transmit first.

  • Web forms in dreamweaver with godaddy. Help.

    Please Help.
Regarding web form mailers using Dreamweaver cs4.
I’m a newbie to hosting and forms please help.
My scenario: I have a WINDOWS hosting account with GoDaddy. I am designing a simple little website that I want a form attached to it. You can view this website at palmertraditions.com/contactus.html. This will be the second website I have with Godaddy so they don’t support/help with any forms with “the secondary” website. I am using Dreamweaver and a friend to assist me in my design. I have done everything they have told me to try regarding their provided form mailers,
( ie <form action="_gdForm/webformmailer.asp" method="post">). I also tried their php one and that didn’t work either.
I talked to another guy at GoDaddy and he said that I should try a 3rd party script. ??? (and I should use asp.)

  • Quick Question - Setting up Personal Domain with godaddy

    Hi there
Just a quick question to make sure I've done this correctly?
Ok, I've published my iWeb website.
I've purchased a personal domain with godaddy.
I've set up the personal domain in my mobile me account.
I then logged into my godaddy account and went to 'Total DNS Control and MX Records'
I changed the following under CNAME (Aliases)
    www web.me.com 1 Hour
and then added a new CNAME Record
    www.*******.com web.me.com 1 Hour
Have I done this all correctly?
Will it take a few hours to take effect?
Anything else I need to consider?
    Thanks for reading.
    Ross

CNAME settings can take up to 24 hours to take effect.
As long as you have forwarded your domain name to web.me.com, then it should be okay.

  • Short url options for iweb '08 & godaddy HEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP!!!!!

I have a new website up. I used iweb 08 and Godaddy. I just want the name only. I want this to show up ---->Example www.sitename.com and the then according pages to follow. Example www.sitename.com/media, www.sitename.com/store, www.sitename.com/shirts, etc. Is there any possible way to make my site have the short url without to much complication? I have searched high and low and most iweb users have the long url. Is this worth the time to figure out. I dont really care about RSS or anything like that. Any answers will be greatly appreciated!!!!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. If you only want the domain name to show up then you'll have to use the URL domain name forwarding with masking. This is how I setup my tutorial site, toadstutorials.info, with GoDaddy:
If you set up the domain name forwarding using CNAME you'll have to remove that type of forwarding and redo it with the standard URL forwarding. Here are some pages on the subject that will be of some help:

  • Masking with godaddy problem

I am forwarding my domain name from godaddy to my iweb site. And I am masking the iweb site with my domain name, BUT...
When I place the cursor or arrow over a navigation link, it shows my imac address and non-masked link, in the status bar at the bottom of the safari browser window. But when I select each link to a page, the url is my domain name...which is good, but...
Can I mask the navigation link in the status bar? Am I doing something wrong with the godaddy settings?
    Thanks,
    cj

So, you really can't mask your imac id?
What is your url? What happens if you use something longer like http://www.mydomain.com/Site/Page.html?
(with Site and Page reflecting the names for your site of course)
I think in general the degree of masking you want and get is an issue for you to take up with godaddy and has nothing to do with iWeb or .Mac.

  • Can't auto play music post iweb 1.1 update

    Hello,
I have just updated to iweb 1.1. On the previous version I was able to publish and edit the html source using Taco HTML Edit to auto play Quicktime music attachment but with the 1.1 update I can't seem to find the source code for the music attachment. Please look at the source for this page:
    http://web.mac.com/dilation/iWeb/Site/Foundation.html
there definitely is music attachment but can't see it from the source. And for some reason I need to right click the play button to play rather then left.
Does anyone know how I can make the music to autoplay post iweb 1.1 update?
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

The recent update to iWeb now places QuickTime content in a javascript file. Yours is:
    http://web.mac.com/dilation/iWeb/Site/Foundation_files/Foundation.js
    And the music file is:
    4-11%20Piano%20Sonata%20No.13%20in%20E%20flat%20major,%20Op.27_1%20III.%20Adagio %20con%20espressione.m4a
It includes many spaces and some punctuation that could cause issues with playback on some machines.

  • Dreamweaver CS 5.5 not working with Godaddy FTP with TLS/SSL

I've upgraded to CS 5.5 and tried to connect to a client's Godaddy account with FTP with TLS/SSL it fails.  Works perfectly with my mac app Transmit every time as it always has.   It doesn't work with implicit or explicit settings with authentication set to none or otherwise.
Can someone please let me know if Dreamweaver will ever be compatible with FTP with TLS/SSL and Godaddy?  Or is there some setting I can try that will make it work now somehow?
    Been waiting years for this....

    SnakEyez02 wrote:
First, that's a Godaddy problem if their security isn't up to par.
That may be the case that Godaddy is also at fault, but every other FTP app I use with Godaddy works fine.  It's just Dreamweaver and has always been just Dreamweaver not working with a secure connection to Godaddy.  Considering Godaddy is the largest webhost in the USA, you'd think Adobe would have fixed this years ago.  I should also mention I'm not endorsing Godaddy and I understand there's plenty of people that don't like Godaddy for very good reasons.
Sent you PM with FTP account with Godaddy yesterday.  Thank you for taking a look!
UPDATE: Whoops, I see you responded via private message already.  I'll paste most of it here in hopes it helps others to understand the issue:
    via SnakEyez02 PM:
Ok this took a lot of digging.  I won't say it's not a DW issue 100% and I will report a bug for your problem, but DW is not the problem alone Godaddy needs to share the blame here for a bad certificate.  Here is what is happening:
    I'll start with DW:
    - The settings are correct that were in the post.  Port 21, FTP explicit, and the authentication should be set to None (encyprtion only).  This is where the transmission is encrypted using SSL, but the certificate is shared and not specific to the domain owner.  That is the difference between DW's "none" and "trusted".  It's a poor choice of words I'll give them that.  However, Godaddy seems to want all connections to be trusted thus the other error you get when you turn on the None option.  Now could DW do what Transmit does, warn you and write in an unsigned certificate into the Keychain app, probably, is it best practice for security reasons to "Trust" an unsigned certificate probably not.
    Now Transmit:
    - As explained above Transmit opens up a prompt to override and create a fake-trusted signed certificate.  Thus by forcing the OS to think a legitimate certificate is there it gets you through albeit through unconventional methods.
    The problem:
    - A good portion of this problem lies with Godaddy.  Now I use a shared hosting account and set one up on an independant host for a friend of mine and both of them accept the shared certificates (SSL explicit).  The difference is the hostname of the certificate.  I ran a traceroute (from Network Utility in Utilities folder) on your website and came up with the following address: 173.201.23x.x.
The problem is that the certificate on your server is actually not for that server which is the reason DW seems to have such an issue with it.  The SSL certificate that Godaddy put on your shared server is for host - 173.201.19x.5x.  As you can see, it's a certificate for another server.  Honestly the fact that Panic's Transmit allows this override scares me a little bit and the fact that Godaddy never noticed this issue either scares me to.  So while DW could write in a bad certificate I can see why this is happening.
I know there is not much solice in my answer because it still doesn't alleviate the problem that you have with DW connecting.  Unfortunately I do not have a workaround despite my numerous attempts to try and gain access over a secure connection.  One alternative you could ask Godaddy for in the meantime is an SSH connection which would allow you to use SFTP instead of FTPS.  But that's a short-term solution to a long-term problem.
If you think of anything else feel free to bounce any ideas off me I don't mind.  Good luck in getting this solved and I will post a bug report to make Adobe aware of the issue.
Thank you for looking into this issue in depth like you have!
I think the issue might be that Godaddy is applying cost saving measures to keep their prices down in the way they implement their certificates (but it also wouldn't surprise me to know it's simply ineptitude on Godaddy's part either).  I'm not sure I fault Panic with Transmit much at all because it clearly warns you about the certificate and it's your choice to continue.  And, as it stands now, it's much safer to continue to connect that way with Transmit than to stop and connect with no encryption at all at a public hotspot.
As it stands now, you really shouldn't connect to Godaddy with Dreamweaver at a public hotspot unless you set up an SSH tunnel with your connection first.  But enabling SSH is an added expense in many ways including paying for the service, using more computer resources for tunneling and time setting it up and implementation... all because Dreamweaver won't just allow developers the option like Transmit does.
Once again, thank you for looking at this and I hope someone at Adobe finally address this issue for the security of its customers who use Godaddy (which is often not their choice and was, instead, the choice of their clients to use Godaddy as a webhost).
Just a side note, I contacted Godaddy support about this several years ago and they were unresponsive and even hostile about it  - So that's definitely another vote against Godaddy from me as well.

  • Publish iWeb using godaddy

I have been trying to publish my iWeb website using godaddy, but it has not been working.I am using FTP,but iWeb says it cannot establish a connection. Is there something I need to do in order to make this work?
    Thanks!

Yes of course - you need a specific ftp address along with a username and password and when you purcahsed your hosting account from GoDaddy, they should have given you all this information.
This is why I asked you whether you actually had a hosting account from GoDaddy in the first place - do you?
It is just that others have made this mistake in trying to publish using the iWeb ftp feature when they did not actually have a hosting account with GoDaddy.
