  • My Time Capsule is Working but the Yellow Light is Blinking

My Time Capsule backs up wirelessly fine but it just started blinking the yellow light.
I performed a back up and it went smoothly but the light still blinks.
What do I do to stop it or is it there a problem?

See #A2 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of the +Time Machine+ forum). Also see #D4 there.
I'm having a similar problem as the original poster; 4 computers and one server backup to the Time Capsule and the drive is full -- but there doesn't seem to be any way to recover from this impasse other than nuking the entire backup and starting over from scratch!
See #D2 in Troubleshooting. If the backups actually fail, see #C2 there.
That sounds like a lot of data backing-up to one Time Capsule. What's the total being backed-up from each Mac, and the size of the TC? Time Machine usually needs 2-3 times the space of the data it's backing-up.
Isn't there a way to just throw out the oldest files and keep going?
Ordinarily, Time Machine will do just that, as long as you don't have the +Warn when old backups are deleted+ box checked in Time Machine Preferences > Options.

  • Adobe CS4 not Working with video

I started a project in HDV.. 720P. And i tried importing some Video and its not working. Its stuck on the first frame only. Even When I Export. I exported an animation i did in Carrara in 720. Imported it into CS4 and it it stuck on the first frame. It's not the only video that doesn't work. A lot of my footage is not importing right. It's running perfectly in VLC and even in Vegas 9. I don't know why it's not working. Any Help fellas. I thought it might be a Codec problem but it's not . It should come withe Premiere. And i tried GSPOT and it said no codec needed. I'm primarily working with AVIs. I even tried changing the Extension. No luck Please. I need Help ASAP. Marketing assignment due soon.
    (2nd EXPLANATION SAME PROB)
Hey Guys. Just got adobe Premiere CS4. I've been trying to import some footage into it for editing but it's either a hit or miss. I thought it was my computer and or graphics card but when i tried it on my PC instead of my laptop i had the same issue. I start with a new document HDV. With 720P at 25fps. And i tried importing footag but all i get it the first frame or so.. I Rendered an animation out of carrara withe 1280 X 768.. or whatever it was and it didnt budge.. Even after i pressed enter to render work area.. I tried importing some other footage and it didn't work.. I then tried importing other 720P stuff.. some work some didn't. But without audio. I imported a clip of Sherlock holmes in 720P. It looked nice.. but again.. no audio.. Do i need codecs? or something. I mean all the videos that i try to import play well in VLC.. I even tried changing the extension from avi, to mov, to mp4... Nothing.. CS4 even rejected MOV, and WMV... wierd.. ok.. well any ideas folks.. I ned this up and running asap. Becuse before i start working in after effects and all that i'd like to know this is working first.. or so god help me i'll use Vegas.. =(

First let me say that I have been fighting PrPro CS4 for about 4-5 days now, and only just started reading in here to figure out what i could do to "fix" my problem. I was having all sorts of fits with the playback inside of PrPro freezing and then "not responding." I came across all kinds of posts about computers, memory, drivers and settings, operating systems and all of that. It wasn't until some one that is also having struggles stated that they had a USB drive for unrelated storage did the light go on. So I disconnected my 2 USB drives (one a 250GB desktop Thermaltake drive and the other a 320GB WD My Passport) and loaded up a project that had all been rendered useless. VOLA, working like a charm now. Just like old times, I love my PrPro CS4, where about 2 hours ago I was ready to start working on my resume...lol
Bottom line, don't leave a USB drive hooked up.

  • CS4.2 with Windows 7 playback stutters - any ideas?

My cs3 on xp  pro on another computer plays back beautiful streaming video in automatic mode in the playback and timeline windows, but CS4 4.2 on my new core I7, 12 gig ram, 1 gig graphic card ati 4850 plays back a Draft quality in automatic mode with no stutter or slight shifts, but if I switch it to High Quality it looks nice, (Like automatic in CS3) but when there is any movement like turning a head or camera movement it looks like it's skipping frames here and there very subtlely.  I've tried turning off and on aero by right clicking on the shortcut, but it does no good.  I'd rally apprciate any ideas you may have.  I'm only cutting DV files at 29.9.  Thank you

  • Upgrading an old computer

    Hi,
I'm not tech savvy at all when it comes to computers. I have a HP laptop that i got for christmas in 2008 and im wanting to know if it would be cheaper to upgrade my computer, like ram, memory, os, and such or just get a new computer all together. I don't do much on my computer except for sufing the internet, writing some papers, emails and facebook and I also like to play the sims 3 on it. The sims 3 runs extremely slow on my computer. It needs a system rating of like 3.7 to run at best preformance and my computer is currently rated at 3.1 It still runs on windows vista as well. Also the battery on my computer is shot!!! if i unplug it it will die in about 30 seconds. So in upgrading the computer I will also have to buy a new battery which I know is going to be another 100$ added to the tab. I'm just trying to find the most cost effective way to get a nice computer. Please Help!!!!!

    Hi nbd19990,
Please post your computers model number so that one of us can give you the best course of action.
Also, the maximum you could spend on upgrades vs. new computer.

  • "The remuneration for private copying" - added €8 to iPod in France - Why?

I have just bought an IPod Nano as a gift for a friend who lives in France. I used Apple Store's new service which allows you to order and pay via their European service.
However, I did not see - until I had hit pay - that Apple France had added €8 to the account total (then plus TAX!)
This is a translation of the French 'Justification' for this charge
"Compensation for private copying and free recycling"
What is the remuneration for private copying?
The remuneration for private copying is a sum levied on any medium and recording equipment to compensate copyright holders (authors, performers and producers) of damage to their monopoly caused by private copying of works protected by law Copyright, like music, movies, television programs. The collection of remuneration for private copying is done by organizations representing copyright holders.
The recycling charge was minimal. Most was for Copyright
Why is this only via the French Apple Store? It did not appear when I tried to do the same order on the UK store?
Is this charge applicable in all countries - or the result of any new French laws?
Does anyone know the answer please?

I never saw the point of asking the question and answering it yourself here, is a bit confusing.
Apparently France is the only country with regulations adding these particularly levies to the purchase of an iPod, I have not seen others post this complaint. You can add it to the volume cap that France passed and now all EU countries are adhering to as another unpopular tax/law of French origin.
The other text you refer to comes from Carl's personal settings. Most use that space to post what computers/equipment they are using, others add personal touches. They automatically appear at the bottom of every post (you'll see my computer list below here) and have nothing to do with your particular question.

  • Help config vlan and inter routing vlan on SF-300

    ip address 192.168.30.1 255.255.255.0

Hi Suwatchai, I'm not sure what you are asking.
On my first post, there are 2 different IP subnet. How I understand you, you would like the computer 1 on FA1 to talk to computer 2 on FA6 which are 2 different subnet. Using your example config on the original post, the computers should have an IP configuation such as stated
    Computer on fa1.
    IP 192.168.10.100
    Gateway 255.255.255.0
    Mask 192.168.10.1
    Computer on Fa6
    IP 192.168.20.100
    Gateway 192.168.20.1
    Mask 255.255.255.0
These IP addresses do not have to be your selection. They only have to be in the proper subnet with the correct gateway address. The gateway and subnet mask are not negotiable, the IP address is. Assuming the NIC on each computer is configured correctly based off that switch config output, this should work without any issue. If it fails to work, it is most likely an external factor as to why.

  • Core duo temp...

ok i downloaded it for the first time and i noticed the temp was 58 degrees. so i was like wow thats not bad...then i saw the C. celcius. so i changed it to farenheit (obvioulsy the metrics we use in the USA) and its 136.4 degrees. isnt that really hot? why does everyone go by C? does the lower # make everyone feel better? im confused.

Steven, the Centigrade temperature scale is used in much of the world instead of the Fahrenheit scale commonly used in the U.S.
But even in the U.S. the Centigrade scale is used in science and engineering.
Every computer chip has operating temperature specifications, a range of temperatures within which it will operate properly and meet specifications for its operating lifetime. The Intel CoreDuo used in the MacBook Pro is specified to operate safely at temperatures up to 100 C (212 F).
Your computer has sensor circuitry and associated software that keeps the CPUs from exceeding the maximum safe temperature.
Don't be put off by the "boiling water" temperature. Doesn't really mean anything. Your home heating furnace likely operates with a really hot gas or oil flame. But no matter how hard it might try, your furnace can't heat your house to such a temperature (unless it sets your house on fire).
Your CPUs cannot heat the computer's case to 100 C; the case may feel very warm but you cannot receive a burn by touching it for a moment. I use an aluminum tilt stand whether my computer is on my desk or in my lap, and am perfectly comfortable. Yes, I can use the MBP as a laptop and in a way that follows Apple's guidance on page 107 of the user guide.
My MBP doesn't have a heat problem. It operates very conservatively inside the temperature specifications. The portions of the computer that I need to touch to operate it -- the keyboard, trackpad and rest areas left and right of the trackpad -- stay comfortable for me to work on it all day (and I do work long hours every day). That's also true of my hard drive. It stays comfortably inside its design specifications for temperature.
My MBP doesn't need the "grease fix" as it operates very well as designed by Apple. I can easily generate temperature graphs that compare with those posted for computers that have had thermal grease reapplied, displaying temperatures lower than some of those. I feel no need to void my warranty by disputing the design and manufacturing specifications certified by Apple's engineers.

  • Mpower Max startup Beep

Hi is this board supposed to give one beep on boot up or only beep if there is a problem. Or do I have to set bios to use it.
    Thank You
    John McCormick

no problem hammey... people tend to find the high pitch beep concerning as alot of people only like them as debug codes so the single beep is removed for post (older computers used to have them but newer boards very rarely have one) - if you want to make sure beeps for debug work turn off your computer and take out the RAM (put them on a piece of cardboard) and see if it beeps when powered on like that and it should do a few beeps to say it has no RAM and once your happy it works for that put them back in again!

Hello, didnt really know hwere to post this guess it more belong under like "computers" generally,
    but! For a while...
        (-THE LONGER VERSION) :
No whait!, let me start where it all began, 2009, a december (erhh.. iii think? Hwatever!) litlle me hwere nearly Totally blank to the computer world. And suddenly it stood there on the table, a shining (it was shining back there) new "hp pavillion entertainment pc" with its smell of fresh plastic mixed hwith the strong smell from the cardboardbox, remember it as if it were yesterday
... Since then.... I have today a good solid pc knowing! (at more advance level cmd, bott menu, recovery, blah, blah... NERD!) here at the last awhile, ive prommised to make a lot! A lot of video projects!
(okay 2, but some big ones!) avchd multilayer 2 hours!!!!
So the poor hp laptop -dual core i2 4gb ram, has been begged to it knees! And simply cant handle it of course! and it have just trough time benn loaded with lots of crap, and is extremly noisy, heat, slow, anoying = unusable!
    SO hwat i need is...
        (-THE SHORTER) :
A computer setup that will EASILY! could handle stuff like that  (avchd, multilayer, 2 hours project) -and simmilar. A total power machine! But Im tired of windows! And ugly cheap looking design! The times have changed and i change with them!
    NOW I WANT APPLE!!
But but but... Hwat should i get????
    1. Im NOT a billionare!
    2. I repeat: NOT a billionare!
    3. I also need portability for every day use beyond the hardcore creative editing and use
    AT LAST:
i saw in front of me this genius plan... With a macbook pro, a tuned one, with as much of ram, cpu, gpu, and everything else as it can posibble have
-the perfect combination of transportabillity, everydayuse and total power!
    When it gets combine with,
    A cinemadisplay
    A extra keyboard
    And a extra magic mouse
And this power macbook pro, with screen, mouse, and keyboard i've found a really good offer at.
    MY ACTUAL QUESTION.... :
Now it is yours turn to please! be creative! Please! Hwat does all you genius heads! think and say?
WILL A super tuned MACBBOK PRO COMBINED WITH ACCESSORIES, AT ALL, BE ABLE TO REPLACE A STRONG MAC PRO, OR AT LEAST BE MORE THAN ENOUGH FOR REALLY HEAVY STUFF? And if yes, HOW strong actually (ram,cpu,gpu...) will it need to have to be "more than enough"?
If no, what would all of  you then suggest that is perfect in relation to everything?
    PLEASE ANSWER!!

    Jonatan R. wrote:
WILL A super tuned MACBBOK PRO COMBINED WITH ACCESSORIES, AT ALL, BE ABLE TO REPLACE A STRONG MAC PRO,
    No,
the MacPro is the muscle machine and not constrained by power or cooling limitations like the MacBoo Pro is.
OR AT LEAST BE MORE THAN ENOUGH FOR REALLY HEAVY STUFF?
If you press the MacBook Pro like a desktop machine, it will blow fans like a hurricane but will do the job eventually.
The longer you blow fans on a laptop, the sooner it clogs up with crippling dust and shortens the life of the machine.
You'll need the top end 15" or better, not the 13" as it has no dedicated graphics, only CPU graphics.
Preferably if you just now getting into video, you should be considering Avid on a Windows 7 tower, it's because Apple has been ignoring the MacPro for hardware updates to improve it and it seems like they don't want to carry it anymore. Also the last Final Cut Pro version had Hollywood up in arms as Apple removed a lot of required abilities to make it more "consumer friendly" which upset the Pro market who likes control.
Apple is focusing on the consumer computing market and getting away from the "Pro" market which needs the heavier hardware to handle video needs. They stopped selling the X-RAID and the X-Server, so Apple really isn't a "computer" company any longer.
Sure you can use a MacBook Pro and a external monitor for doing home movies and such occasionally, but if your into serious production you need to consdier other options now.
There is nothing wrong in getting a MacBook Air and a Windows 7 professional video tower too.

  • Family Pack...posting iWeb from multiple computers?

So I apologize if this is a silly question...but need to verify my hunch. If I purchase a .mac family pack, can we post multiple iWeb sites from each of our four computers to that .mac account? So the sites would be, for example, web.mac.com/smithfamily/amy, and web.mac.com/smithfamily/scott...and such? I guess the real question, is can this happen from multiple computers accessing the same .mac account without them overwriting each other's sites? Thanks.

    Hi Amy,
I think this probably remains to be seen.
If you are using iWeb1.1.2, I would say yes, you can definitely do this, as you have described.
If you are using iWeb2.0, I would say maybe not. 2.0 is publishing to a different directory on the iDisk than 1.1.2 did, and each publish to this directory, at least, from a separate/different Domain.sites2 file, erases the previously published site to the iDisk.
It is a good question whether or not this would happen with individual machines, publishing to the same .Mac account, and this would actually be very helpful information about what it is that is causing this problem, should you be successful.
I have two machines myself, and I publish to the same .Mac account from each; however, only one of them is using iWeb2.0.
I say give it a try, using the 60 day trial version of .Mac. If it doesn't work then you haven't lost anything. (Not sure if you can try the family pack in a trial version)

    Error 9
This error occurs when the device unexpectedly loses its USB connection with iTunes. This can occur if you manually disconnect the device during the restore process. You can resolve this issue by using USB troubleshooting, using a different Dock Connector or Lightning Connector to USB cable, trying another USB port, restoring on another computer, or by eliminating conflicts from third-party security software.
